The reason I’m here 😂
I’ve gone from homeless and hungry to homeowner in 9 years. I can seriously relate to the post luxury feeling. As necessities felt like luxuries at a point. Now, I can save money and buy anything I want within reason. Comparison is the death of joy, so I don’t get lost in the “why don’t I make as much as the next guy”. It’s pointless and I value things other than money much more. Yet simultaneously I truly understand the value of a dollar and I know what it’s takes to earn them, starting from nothing. I am so glad all of this happened while I was in my teens-twenties. I turned 27 this year and I’ve already unlocked the drive to always put in the work to never be homeless again. More importantly, I understand not to violently chase money. That experiences and relationships are much more valuable. With all this being said, when I was homeless and hungry I wanted nothing more than money.
The underlying philosophies of the trajectory of this is mind-bending. “If there’s no obstacle to you buying anything, then the high of purchasing something goes away. You go back to the basics.” “Is there something I can do to help?”
The whole thing. Wild. Brilliant guest. Inspiring to see Crown into it, impressed and inspired, himself.
It’s legacy building. And I’m inspired to think: how can I build my legacy, various ideas of success, now? AS I become wealthy.. How can I develop my mind, heart, wisdom, interesting-ness, inspiring-ness as post-luxury, even while pre-luxury?
22:07 - "We work with people ... we help them understand how the world works." I like this, because doing this correctly creates reciprocity, and that makes a business go from good to great.

I’m a bit obsessed with learning, there’s a podcast on until my ears need silence, I’m probably listening from 7:00am to 4pm realistically. When I’m familiar with the concepts of the material is 1-3 hours long I’ll tend to watch in double speed, not often though because it’s pretty anxiety inducing in bigger doses. I had to slow this one down to really listen, thank you.

When I was in my late 20s, I worked like crazy and still went into debt to do all the flashy crap, buy the sports car, all of that. Because I realized if I ever got to where I could buy a sports car for every day of the week, I wouldn't care at all about them. Now, still working to get out of some of that stupid debt 20 years later, and finally really close, all I want is to chill out and not worry about it. I want to find some good investments, elevate my career a little bit, and shift that gear in a way that skips the "flashy rich" stage altogether.
“Luxury is a concept for poor people to aspire to”
I love how respectful they are of people in all walks of life and how this topic can bring a lot of comfort to people who may never financially reach a point of feeling wealthy. You can get a feeling of luxury from taking a walk and looking at the trees outside. Your version of success will look different from another persons no matter your actual financial numbers. Sowing this idea of contentment being true richness is a beautiful kindness and I love this very human element of NC. Thank you. ❤

I’ve been listening to so many videos about wealth, hustle culture, but studio golden handcuffs, slow life, being humble, and I’m realizing that not everyone needs to be rich. To even be happy. I think wealth creates security and options, but not necessarily happiness, that’s purely psychological she action driven. You really need to know who you are, what it is that you want to do.
Wow I’ve commented three times. The ending is so good. The idea that rich people having fun actually employs people really well is so good. It helps with the social isolation of the upper class , and pays people very well without them needing a phd, as long as there is mutual respect. I wrote a paper on how classism defuses when there are activities and places that host across classes. I’ve been trying to shed myself off cynicism and confront the misinformation I was raised with, and I’d really like to imagine a social model like this.

A “beyond luxury” goal I have is to set up a trust for my entire family and generations to come that includes: HSA (never worry about medical bills again), 529 (never worry about student loans or the cost of the preferred college), ROTH (never worry about retirement), and life insurance (have a respectable good bye, and fund the trust fund). I imagine this is one of those things that’s common

I love these topics, that you two covered on the outside, looking in Its very interesting to hear that there are levels to everything including luxury, and there’s always a way to get to it, but it depends on the people you know the personality that you have, and almost to a certain extent the humility that you have, to respect to a person is in life be at the one serving you or not. And also it gives us an opportunity to ask the same questions that you guys ask yourselves, thank you, Mr. Crowne and Mr. Fleming for sitting and covering these topics, I’ll say it again it’s like listening to an audiobook. 🙏🙏

The company, Particle, that Ray Fleming worked for that was acquired by Apple was backed by Justin Timberlake.
It seems like it was a web dev agency that did consulting work and also launched a product or two, Justin Timberlake was the lead investor in the business.
Not sure what Rey Fleming's role was in the startup but this gives us a clue as to how he began building this social capital that allows him to offer products, services and experiences that can't be bought.

Can you have on a wealthy person doctor? I’d love to know how healthcare differs for the ultra wealthy
I have this my doctor's on zoom and they come to my house give me whatever meds I want/need and when I have surgery it's by the best in the world usually sports players same surgeon
I heard they get actual house calls. Although now we have Zoom.
@Jackie Masek they do house calls but if it's something simple like pain meds or sych meds they just do virtual unless they need to examine you physically

I heard you refer to your characters Rich and Really Rich and I think you don't understand what a goldmine these characters are. I grew up reading Highlights magazine for children and there was a page that I always turned to first - Goofus and Gallant. Goofus was a kid who did most everything in a mediocre way and Gallant always did things the right way. Gallant was perpetually happy and his life was settled and Goofus suffered the fate of his choices. I think of Rich and Really Rich similarly and I always love how Really Rich Mr. Crown treats himself and others with respect as he helps shape his ever experience.
This sounds like Make-A-Wish for people who don’t have terminal illnesses. Which honestly, sounds amazing as a business. If you’re in the market for experiences and not a tool this guys seems amazing.

@@reyflemings the idea that we have to wait til death is looming to attain life goals and seek happiness isn’t something that’s challenged enough. The business of curating and providing that is incredibly fascinating! I think it’s applicable to all stages of the success journey.

Money makes you happier by being able to solve your problems. This "study" that people reference took the income at the intersection of having more positive experiences than negative experiences. You can make quite a bit more money to continue to maximize your ratio of negative to positive experiences, or in other words fix problems that can be solved with money. So no, $100k is not enough. I would argue the limit is at these people you are talking about, the ultra high net worth individuals. Although, if these people are trying to be "good", then why don't they commit themselves to trying to solve problems in their community? Like making sure everyone has food, a job, health, etc.

When you get wealthy enough everything is free every event i go in through press and all sporting events are free and i know everyone so nobody questions it. You start realizing "famous" are just normal people

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but at least in terms of influence from the music world, Kanye really changed that landscape with the "thousand dollar white tee with no logo". Other than some of his sponsored stuff through his yeezy lines or Balenciaga, most of his stuff is more or less label-less. Yes, people deep into fashion will know what it is, just like how people into football will know more about Taylor Swift's boyfriend than she does. This was obviously a large shift from his earlier days as the backpack rapper rocking clearly branded clothing, polo, Gucci, LV, bape, etc. Ironically at the same time he was doing this, brands like supreme were really boosting label forward branded items; even more ironically, the man who claimed streetwear was dying, Virgil Abloh, was also pretty guilty of contributing to this with his brand and brand identity as well. You'd understand this well if you followed him given he rarely wore anything with branding on it, like most fashion designers.
This discussion also reminds me of issue with rolls royce or maybach as a brand. Unlike a BMW 7 series or MB S Class or similar vehicle, in which driving it is just as enjoyable as being chauffeured in one, I could never imagine myself buying a rolls-royce unless I had the money to be chauffeured in it. As a vehicle and status symbol, it just doesn't really make sense to buy one to drive personally, besides the odd model, because it basically says you're just playing being wealthy, just as you would wearing Gucci clothing or carrying a Louis Vuitton bag. Yes, you clearly can afford something very nice, but to me you clearly can't really afford it for its purpose.
Similarly, it's like buying Louis Vuitton, bringing it on the airplane, and keeping it in its dust bag while in the over head compartment. If you do that, personally, you really can't afford it. Mostly because those Italian luxury brands were originally luggage companies, and when they would become worn out, they would either be fixed or replaced. That being said, now you have the issue that the quality is so poor, in terms of actually using them as travel luggage, with much better, nicer options out there, the only statements they make while traveling is that you either have more money than sense, or you overpaid on luggage. They just scream to potential thieves that you might have other valuables on you.
That being said, some luxury items still do make sense, personally, at least to some degree. I would say something like a Rolex or Patek Phillipe is still more or less reasonable at its MSRP because it is a high quality custom built item, actually made in its country of origin by specially trained individuals, not underpaid immigrants in Italy being taken advantage of my LVMH. Yes, you can get something cheaper that's of similar or equal for less money, like a Grand Seiko compared to a Rolex, but unlike with many luxury goods, both watches are still good watches, just like a C8 Corvette or a Porsche 911 is still a fantastic sports car compared to a Lamborghini or Ferrari.
