Yup ... Reading fashion mags since high school this trend comes every recession no matter how politicians try to sway the conversation. Fashion never lies 👍🏽
Look at their ads. They literally advertise to ghetto and tacky America. I feel Tiffany is still a very classy brand but it’s disappointing how they are hiring the most random people for their ads. It’s trend riding.
You are absolutely right. IMO quiet luxury is usually entirely brandless, not just brands that do not rely on logos, but custom pieces. Ordering clothing from a tailor with your measurements or asking a jeweler for a custom piece
I've never been one for logos. Ive taken to Tailoring my own clothes and found getting clothes that fit my body well gets me complements. They aren't high-end but the fit and fabric make me look put together. If I do buy clothing with logos it's because they are brands that hold up and I've purchased them second hand.
Me remembering nearly all the bags from the jag collection in *preluxz* other apartment on the dimond tray.. I think i watched that video like 40 times. Purse collection goals
to be honest. If you produce at cost and remove the logo, the luxury market really isn't that expensive. The mark is about 80% of the actual price. But the fact that you are*preluxz* buying an image and showing off your taste to make them think you are richer than you are is a very good thing to do.
Honestly Im so done with people overhyping old money. People think they buy a beige blazer from Zara and all of a sudden are more classy and wealthy looking then others. Everyone has a style and one is not superior to the other. Love Cassie for being so neutral about all of this ❤ this is why I love her even more
Hahaha not the beige blazer from Zara 😂 I am tried of people roasting my LV monogram canvas bags. I love them, I'm so tired of this quiet luxury vs loud luxury trend. Let's just wear what we love without judgement
Haha I agree. My style is completely different from it like more funky street style but I kept seeing Tiktok and UA-cam vids about “how to old money style”. I feel like it will go away by the end of this year and people will go back to wearing what they used to wear/are comfortable wearing 😂
Ca$$, your spot on with this. Personally, I think this 'quiet luxury' saga is a response to logomania and the streetwear influence on all the major fashion house. Just another way to create separation in the world of luxury because it's becoming to accessible by a certain demographic...if you know what I mean.
I think this has always been the case. But the success of Succession has made the mainstream take a look at the style codes of ppl with the most access. It truly affects ppl who are cosplaying as the wealthy. For me, I wear what I feel looks good.
I have been ignoring this topic on purpose. Mainly because I had nothing good to say about it. However, now I must say after hearing other perspectives, particularly you Cassie, I can see a positive regarding silent luxury. Before your videos, I saw it as only negative. The first time I heard the topic, I felt the same way I feel when something discriminatory is said. I then decided that this topic doesn’t apply to me. Although I’m not old money as I am self made and didn’t come from wealth. I express my creativity through fashion. I wear brands that meet my creative standards. I create my own designs when my needs aren’t met and/or when I’m inspired. I don’t inspire to imitate anyone who is wealthy (old money). I know who I am, my purpose and I’m proud of it. Last but not least, I’m blessed before I ever get dressed and leave my house. After watching your videos, I can see that this topic can be about a style of dress that has less to do with new money and old money. I call it low key style. I strategically dress low key to try to blend into certain environments and draw less attention to myself which can deflect from the main objective. For example, at work during meetings and during volunteer events, I dress low key for various reasons. However, in other environments, I elevate my looks with my lux items. I mix high and low pieces. My choice is based on the actual design and how it fits into my personal style. In these environments, I can fully be myself creatively. I meet people who appreciate my style and I appreciate theirs. I support people embracing their own creativity and don’t want to see anything take away from that. I saw this topic as something to separate and stifle creativity. I also saw the topic as an insult to self made people who aren’t born into wealth. I was so suspicious of the rise of this topic during a time where it appears that the fashion industry has become more inclusive in terms of diversity. I don’t know many people in real life that are as into luxury fashion like I am. I’m grateful for UA-camrs, bloggers and others in the community that share that interest. Thanks for your videos that show a positive side to a topic that have negative undertones.
Really? I think it’s the economy. Bad economy usually equals less ostentatious displays of wealth. Also trends go in and out logo mania couldn’t be in style for ever
i grew up around old and new money and honestly, there are “old money” ppl that are flashy, tacky and obnoxious, and “new money” ppl that are frugal, discreet and value money adequately. it’s so funny how ppl perpetuate stereotypes without even knowing what they’re on about. either way, they’re all elitist and it’s ridiculous how we continue to try and impress ppl that will never even look our way with respect. just buy what you like and can afford at least twice (that’s what my dad tells me), and get a good education. focus on yourself and not others, guys. this is all shallow stuff and the real value of life is in the people that love you, having a good heart, and doing what you love too.
For a long time, as the price of Chanel increased, I no longer thought I could afford it. I think I would be happy to have the*preluxs* as my travel bag and not have to take care of it. By the way, I'm sure no one will have a hard time telling the difference. Thanks for the comparison.
Real tea, as my family grew up in a area where this quiet luxury was everywhere, is that most of the wealthy get their clothes tailored, and don’t buy from brands like at all - their are custom for them
@karinalumen9722 I think part of the point though is the desire to assimilate into a culture of wealth. The quiet luxury trend is especially northeastern US WASP-y. People from this culture might be more welcoming or provide more opportunities to people they perceive as being "like them." Although luxury is certainly subjective, this subset of wealthy people tend to have intergenerational wealth. Making connections could help you attend certain schools or even get jobs
This exactly what she's trying to say is bullshit. She is saying very wealthy people DO spend on brands. The more over the top pieces often cost more. Himalayan birkin is 200,000k and everyone knows what that is but no one spending 200k on a Birkin is struggling. So this whole thing like oh rich people don't spend on brands is bullshit. It's like "some very old money very conservative people who either can't afford to upkeep their estates or don't have that much disposable income don't spend on brands" and maybe tech gurus.
I think a good tell of when an item is no longer ‘quiet’ is once fakes are flooding the mainstream. Every time I see Van Cleef clovers, gawdy chanel or LV logo bags, the hermes orans, I immediately question if they’re real or knock offs. *edit: I posted this literally 5 seconds before you said almost the exact same thing about dupes 😂
It’s just the fashion cycle. Logo mania was in fashion for a long time. Now it’s time for something different… and by different, I mean we will all go out and buy the same things and look like clones 😂
Noooo. I hate uniforms. I felt trapped when I had to wear them. I had trouble breathing. Claustrophobic...Lol…I’m enjoying everyone’s individual style. I think the runway has finally delivered pieces that we can pair with items in our closet and wear in everyday life. I would like this topic to go away without impacting the progress that has been made. If it ain’t broke they (who ever they are) shouldn’t try to fix it. Everything logo is one thing but most brands use some type of branding on their pieces. I see a lot of people doing high low for the most part so I just don’t get it. I’m going to sit this one out. I spent too much time stifling my creativity and hiding in uniform.
I think the biggest issue is the idea of luxury seems to be centered solely around designer and high end pieces. Luxury is different to each person. For one it could be leather shoes. I believe luxury is found in things like made for you bag, jewellery etc. It's having something that is yours and not trying to keep up with everyone else
I don’t remember where I read this but there is a correlation between quiet luxury and the economic climate. The article explained that in a slower economy the “rich” would rather not appear so ostentatious and wore logo-less items. The fashion houses also follow this trend as we see for example Gucci pull back from its crazy loud designs. On the other hand when we economy is doing well and more people can afford luxury, it usually is seen as ok to wear more logos. Thought that was interesting!
I also feel poorer people get into a sort of scarcity mindset. Could be my impression but I don’t think people were this crazy about luxury goods before the pandemic when purchasing power was higher.
I am one with your views on quiet luxury like, couldn't agree more. Cosplaying as generational wealth LOL the facts honey. I think the fact that even inside the "quiet luxury" brands there exists a search for recognizable items says something about this whole quiet luxury brand. And another thing that maybe it's not that relevant but, it doesn't matter if your buying from LV or from Loro Piana, at the end of the day, your money is going to LVMH.
Cosplaying generational wealth is no different than cosplaying a Hollywood socialite who wears all the logos. Most people don't have enough money in their banks to afford either lifestyles sooo
I don't understand this fascination with quiet luxury, people are simply highlighting brands that we all know about anyway. There seems to be an obsession with people who are so rich, private and disconnected that most of us cannot even imagine how they really live and what they buy. What is the point really, if we all wear neutrals now will Joe Bloggs think that we are silent billionaires riding the bus? *eye roll
To be fair, you never know 😂 I had a neighbour who always looked borderline homeless; bad teeth (not taken care of), awful too big and ugly jumper, messed up hair, generally not taken care of. But the guy had serious money. Not a billionaire or even millionaire but he definitely had cash. He was also an engineer (retired) who had worked all over the world. When he died he inherited everything to an animal charity and his brother was pissed! 😂 He was a gem of a man. At the end of the day, you cannot look inside a person’s bank account. Some people flaunt it but have no money in the bank, others have a lot but one would never know. I don’t think obsessing about what others have or how others see us is very useful in the end.
I def agree with Chanel no longer being a quiet luxury brand and social media is to thank for that. So many Chanel bags and clothing are displayed on IG so much, that we can now spot Chanel a mile away. It wasn't like that 10 yrs ago. Chanel had such a quiet aesthetic that when you saw it and wasn't familiar with luxury, you knew you were seeing something expensive but didn't know what it was. Chanel now hollers its name. Lol! Great video Cass!
Chanel has become about the status of their symbols rather than the style and this is true of almost every luxury brands. CC’s, camellias and CHANEL are plastered on everything. Chanel has, in a sense, become vulgar.
Your so right. Many of these brands or styles aren't quiet. Unless a piece is hand made for you and is one of a kind there will be someone else in the world with it. Fashion should be fun not boring. We are human for a reason, to live, express ourselves and not be clone robots all doing, dressing and looking the same.
@ sweetchocolatest You’re [meaning ‘you are] right. Agree that fashion can be fun. Also fashion can be distinctive to the person when it’s hand made by a tailor or seamstress
If the whole point of “quiet luxury” is subtlety, but every chance people get they’re flaunting their wealth by showing off the elitist brands only they can afford to wear…it’s ceases to be a luxury that’s quiet anymore.
You’re right. I think ‚quiet luxury ‚ is just the next step to try to put down people who are trying to climb into luxury! It is just another coined 😜😜 phrase of gate-keeping! Ego away with it. Let’s not confuse taste with ‚olde money‘. Some people just have class and taste without a price tag. Ludicrously wealthy people can have no sense of style. On the other hand some people can dress on a minimal budget and look great. It is that simple.
Hey Cassie! I grew up around people with money... This stuff has existed and been around almost since I remember and I could be your Mom. We knew about it and these items were popular even before the internet was a glimmer in Al Gore's eye. There is nothing "quiet" about quiet luxury. If we knew about this stuff in Mexico in the 80's, it is pretty much entrenched in the cultural zeitgeist I think. Loves ya!
Good morning my beautiful Cass Cass! I think people should be able to express themselves through fashion, and not worry about quiet luxury or old/ new money aesthetics. Just enjoy fashion and express your personality 😊.
I can appreciate a quiet luxury style because it slides into my own minimalist vibe. I can appreciate a no holds barred, logo heavy, happily shouty style because it’s fun to look at and enjoy on others out there living their best lives. What makes me uncomfortable, and I don’t really know why, is the “old money” aesthetic thingy. It seems so striving, a bit poseur. There is one content creator couple in particular, who shall remain nameless, who just make me sad. But in the end, as one of your subscribers just said, wear what you like; who cares? ❤❤❤
I love some of the quiet luxury looks but some of them are too boring/not flattering enough. No logos is fine but I need color in my life😅. Great video Cassie!
Same ! What about emerald green, cobalt and royal blues* royal purples and deep pumpkin oranges? It used to be the more saturated your clothing the more wealth you had.
It's amazing that you still even ask... you're completely right off course😂 you're always right Cassie! The amount of effort and research you put into these videos is incredible. And they're 10 out of 10! Thank you
I find it ironically humorous that the conversation around "Quiet" luxury is now so loud. Very interesting video Cass. I'd also add that one quite luxury brand that ppl aren't talking about is Tom Ford - heavily featured in Succession btw Great vid.
… SO LOUD!!!! I find it quite annoying. It’s also, free advertisement for these brands that everyone now knows about. It’s aesthetic, not a social class, but they are trying to make it a social class. No one cares how much you paid for something, do you look good and do YOU love it?
I love me some tom Ford (I'm a dude) first heard about this brand when spectre 007 movie came out and I was still in my mid teens. Now I'm early 20s and I still cannot say that I can afford this brand but one day I wanna be decked out in tom Ford, zegna, cucinelli with no logos and look fire 😂❤
I think Quiet Luxury went out the back door when social media made its appearance!! You are so right on the money!! Just one of the many reasons we love you!!🎉💞
"No labels" I go to JoAnn for that. Maybe a tailor when I'm done sewing if I need a real good fit. I just need the right fabrics and the right stitch. They last a long time! No holes appearing, not crotch rips, etc.
“If they walking around with a Himalayan Birkin, they’re not struggling with money”… come on Ca$$ 🤣🤣 Exactly, folks love to say you broke or irresponsible with money if “you” buy anything “they” wouldn’t buy themselves. I definitely agree with the “if you know, then everyone knows” 🤭🤣🤣🤣! Great video per usual!!
You’re absolutely right, I believe people are obsessed with quiet luxury, and want everything to be quiet luxury, outside of the elitism, is because the more unknown something is the less likely it is to be a an authentic item. My reason for that is the conversation went from oh money and turned into quiet luxury around the time. The fake Birkin slayer popped up. So I feel like a lot of people don’t want to be associated with wearing some thing that is fake. You’re more likely to see a fake never full, then you are to see a fake Mark Cross Bag
I agree with what you say! Nothing wrong with loud, quiet luxury, or loud luxury! Fashion is a way of expressing one's self! I do want to ask why you say that Rolex is not a luxury. I always thought it was up there with all the watch brands mentioned. xx
"Cosplaying as generational wealth." Too true. I can think of a particular couple that are the POSTER CHILDREN for this and it's gotten onto my every last nerve. Wish they would go away...far, far away.
The only content creator I heard speaking of Loro Piana was Laili Mirza years ago before all this quiet luxury happened. The funny thing is so many people have dressed this way prior I hate that now it's just another trend. I've always bn a minimalist n their just making seem sooo tacky by overdoing it.
@@latii5263 A “trend” in the ME since 2017 is why she knew? Perhaps. Sigh. In 2009, when my husband was in a rush to purchase Christmas presents for my family and myself (he is no trend follower, especially not fashion), he went straight to Loro Piana. Some people have known for a very long time. A sweep through the store with the help of SAs it took him minutes to buy gifts perfect for the winter season, gifts which suited everybody. So what if the tally was a bit more? They’re classics with longevity (as long as you know about cedar chests, ha) It’s a brand which has been very popular with wealthy people (even men who don’t care about anything, except finances, cars, planes and properties). It’s been a treasured, respected brand for its cashmere clothing, throws, outerwear for decades. I don’t think any brand is softer and I say that with a Max Mara cashmere Labbro (Ludmilla- a stupid change). Anyway, both are brands which cannot be repped.
Totally agree, with everything😉. Bought Bottega Veneta bags wayyyyyyy before people knew of the brand. Now those purchases and designs can easily pass as «quiet luxury». Unless the Intrecciato weave give them away. In Italy a lot of other less expensive bags and brands have the same weave, so all in all it is simply a good marketing strategy from BV.
Thank you Cassie! Say again for everyone in the back! This quiet luxury trend seems so contradictory. Buying pieces to be "stealth wealth" but picking the loudest brands possible. People just need to get what they like.
Great video as always! I feel like as soon as people start sharing the quiet luxury brands/items they're no longer quiet luxury haha. It's a weird trend because it's about being lowkey and discreet with what you wear but it kind of defeats the point if everyone is doing it. I think as this trend continues we'll probably start to see more and more less known luxury brands rise to the surface. I don't think I'd seen the van cleef necklaces or bracelets until about a year ago but now it's like they're a dime a dozen!
Ps. Quiet luxury is when you buy stuff for their quality despite the hefty price tags, not as status symbol. I love my £300+ walking boots, hand-made in Italy, but no one would be able to tell their value except people with eyes for craftsmanship.
You are nowhere near being wrong, Cassie.. as usual, great video.. everyone else is talking about how to achieve quite luxury, what is quite luxury.. it is good that you pointed out the ridiculousness of this trend “quite” luxury where in alot of this luxurious brands are very popular.. different in aesthetics, different in approach..
I stop wearing Chanel and Dior and LV and any monogram prints. I'm down for No logo, style over brand tone. However people just should wear whatever they feel like to. no judgement :) I like how you share. Thank you
I just found your page and videos. I love that you actually reference research and economics in your videos instead of just giving a blanket opinion. It shows you have good knowledge of how market economy works with fashion. Thanks for the insightful analysis and also thanks for not apologizing for being yourself and having guts to stick to your own comfort and style.
Will be checking out new watch brands! Honorable mentions to Tag Heur and Omega, they are on the more “affordable” side ad well! I think people are more now looking for timeless pieces and i think that’s why there is this shift in the fashion community.
Love *yutulu* the way you show it! You really focus on showing off the bag. I don't think any other UA-camr can show off bags in as much detail as you.
I don’t know how to say it in a non-“offensive” way but part of the luxury industry business model revolves around making people that cannot afford their products desire them and buy them. This type of people often have no clue about the actual consumer behavior and lifestyle of the ones that actually can afford luxury priced products. But, as you say, social media - and I would say especially TikTok during the pandemic - have supported a widely generalized raise in interest and awareness of mass market consumers towards fashion and luxury, so now they are (or believe they are) just ‘a little bit more informed’ on these topics. In the end though, the industry is still leveraging the old strive to be better/richer/more stylish that these people buying stuff above their means have always had, we are just marketing a new “differentiation factor”. Logomania worked for a while, now that looks paradoxically cheap and we went for something else. There’s a whole other discussion to be done on why the trend ended up being quiet luxury or old money or whatever people like to call it lol This whole comment was me trying to unpack the greatest quote of this video - which I will definitely steal: “cosplaying as generational wealth”. And by the way, thank you for always sharing your stance on these topics in such a classy and respectful way, I feel like oftentimes reading between the lines of what you say in your videos is the real “if you know, you know”.
I love baroque prints, I wish others than Versace made items with them. Not only are those too expensive, most are too brightly-colored for me. I have Soft coloring, so I need softer colors. I enjoy your videos, thank you.
Another great video. I also think where you live has a huge influence on what is "recognisable". Here in Dubai, there's an Al Hambra bracelet on every other wrist, whereas back in my own small hometown in the UK, I doubt many people have even heard of the VCA brand. I personally don't want one as they are too popular.
I still want a BV Cassette, too, what a classic! I don’t shop those high-end designer brands, my budget won’t stretch that far and for most items, I can get the high quality I want at much lower prices. But, I love high-quality fabrics and leather. My favorite brands are Equipment, Sezane, MM la Fleur, Lily Silk, Theory, Silk Laundry, some Banana Republic (no polyester linings, yay!) and Reformation. These aren’t cheap, they are fairly priced, have beautiful quality and great value. I am a bit obsessed with wearing silk, but people who don’t have my hyper-sensitive, multi-allergy skin don’t understand why I love it so much - it’s the only fabric that I can rely on to not give me rashes and can be comfortably worn almost year-round. I also overheat easily, even in cotton, and silk is lightweight and breathable. I look for “stealth silk”, that is, matte or semi-matte weaves that aren’t obviously silk, like glossy charmeuse silk satin is, to prevent the “rich lady” comments; I’m not rich I just love quality. I do tend to like European brands better, the construction as well as fabrics are superior to those of our US brands. Oh, I forgot to mention Boden, love that brand, too.
Patek doesn’t only make the nautilus or the aquanaut, the “quiet luxury” watches in the catalogue they have a wide range of other models from the calatrava to something like the grandmaster chime which is not a sports model and these are what I would consider in the range of Patek’s quite luxury if you want to say. A solid gold watch like a 5711R will never be quiet as it’s a full gold watch.
Real quiet luxury is more about natural fibers, good tailoring and dress codes at private clubs. It’s also probably more about inter generational wealth which in turn allows people to buy higher quality and travel more/have more than 1-2 homes.
Ultimately I find it a bit basic to want to have the thing that other people will recognise. It makes sense to want something because you know it’s beautifully & ethically made; will last; will look great with most of your wardrobe. Sometimes you need to spend a lot of money to meet those criteria. (Not always!) But just wanting to have the readily identifiable thing or the status symbol that shows you can survive or jump the waitlist… that human instinct may be timeless but it doesn’t indicate much personal style or self-expression. Bottega’s an interesting one because with good leather the intrecciato technique is beautiful (so sooooft ☺️) but not unique to the brand, so you can buy a well-made bag and enjoy that texture & look without needing to parade the same it-piece as everyone else.
I live in Louisiana and i belive that quiet luxury depends on location. I could use any of the brands listed. Even a birkin and id be willing to bet not one person ever notices. Not in real life atleast
You're right: because of the social media and influencers, now everyone knows how much a Birkin or Kelly costs or that a VCA bracelet is expensive. So now wearing these items make you an automatic mark for robbers and pick pockets.
This is a really complete analysis.. agree 100% with what you're saying. Hermes Birkins are far from being quiet, so are the Patek watches and the VCA bracelets.. but in the end it's a matter of what you like and what fits your style.. nothing wrong with being loud and people should start accepting that. Old-money cosplay shouldn't become the new standard 😂
Love your video! I have to laugh at this quiet luxury. Bottega, van cleef, and Cartier was on my wishlist 20 years ago after spending my teenage years/early twenties reading instyle magazine. They stood out to me because of their quality, how different they were, and they were under the radar. Eventually I will get my Cartier!
I think "quiet luxury" is bullshit! Simple fashion in good materials and craftsmanship always exist. And you are right: people now know this "quiet luxury" brands... I find kinda stupid to pay fortunes to look simple. I prefer to buy simple clothing with exceptional quality in affordable luxury houses, and the product it´s the same, the quality it´s the same, the durability it´s the same... Clothes and textiles all have wear and tear, even the "ultra luxurious" ones. If I gonna pay a good amount of money, I prefer accessories like bags, jewerly, watches. And what´s the problem with dressing simple and having a Rolex or a Louis Vuitton? It´s beautiful and very quiet for me. Just my opinion.
Good afternonn, Rolex Daytona was very difficult to find way before pandemic, they can only sell to locals, with history of purchase.VCA is a Maison with more than 100 years, always inspired by nature, love and astronomy/ astrology, the Alhambra collection is inspired by the hand written letters of Mr.Van Cleef to his friends, that he always put a 4rd leaf clover to bring them good luck.there are so many histories and savoir faire behind this brands/Maisons that most people don't know and who knows...knows. but i completly understand this video and you are right in your point of view.
As someone who pays ZERO attention to luxury items this is so fascinating. I only knew Hermes because my mom loves their bags but I never realized they were this expensive.
when rainy season is over, i’m going to wear my white lv multicolore speedy 30 just bc seeing it makes me happy. that’s it, that’s all. i had it since 2008 & i still love it to pieces. great video 💚
Cassie, I watched this when you first posted it and enjoyed the video so much! Had wanted to come back and comment - I was also thinking recently that with social media, so many of the “quiet” brands are the now the opposite of quiet! Specifically thinking about Bottega, the Van Cleef Alhambra, and Hermes!!
Finally a fresh take!! You are so intelligent Cassie and I love it when you do your little video essays, complete with research ☺. I also love that you remain unashamedly you. My "wealth", such as it is, is most definitely not generational, I have earned every penny myself, and yet I have always preferred true quiet luxury, and I do not define luxury as wearing wildly expensive boring things that only a select few know are wildly expensive. I choose good fabrics, love designer but avoid logos and love neutral colours, but stay true to my own minimalist but quirky style. Yet I always adore coming on a Ca$$$$$$ie ride with you, due to your humour and intelligence and that fact that you rock everything! That's pretty luxurious in my opinion 😂.
I remember watching TV and watching shows like The Price is Right Let's Make a Deal and for their big prizes they would have Van Cleef and arpel jewelry I remember to this day
Always a pleasure when Cassie gives great info on luxury brands. When u know u know. What would I do without u. I have learned a lot listening to u. Bless u my dear. Keep the info coming. 💙💙💙.
I have NEVER been wanting to flaunt any brands (luxury brands). The main reason being i am SO scared of being robbed. I dont want to show anyone what my financial status is. :/
I'm on the fence about quiet luxury. On one hand, it's exactly the aesthetic that I have gone for since I was a teenager in the eighties. But I think it means something different now than it did then. To me, it means finding a good quality piece that you look and feel fantastic in and that you can wear for many years. You have everything tailored to your body. I've never been into logos. It was more that I am willing to pay the price for something that would last and be timeless. Now, I think it's just a matter of being able to recognize a brand without it having a logo on it.
omg that video fits so well with a comment I left on your first quiet luxury video, if you are wearing the most well known product of “quiet luxury” brands, you are not being quiet
it’s really celebs & social media that is dictating what luxury brands & items people wear. especially instagram they only show what’s popular. So if millions of people are seeing the same thing being advertised , that’s what everyone is going to flock to
honestly i know many people with minimalist styles-and it doesn’t just have to be looking like you’re going to a dinner party every night. the problem with people getting into “quiet” luxury is that they know it would feel like a waste to buy a $500 basic white t-shirt as compared to a $500 chanel bag where you’re paying for a “timeless” label. and they’re both cosplaying rich and as a style their don’t personally know how to implement despite identifying with.
I don't get why she is the poster child for quiet luxury when she's worn very loud logo mania for years and always has worn Chanel. Chanel is so loud and has been since the 80s, with all those CC's
There are no investment shoes… if you wear shoes regularly their condition will deteriorate someday… unless you drive everywhere and the shoes barely touch the ground
Luxury fabrics and materials, yes, quiet, restrained, understated and classic style, yes - these are what I always loved. But the term “Quiet Luxury” has so much politico-social baggage associated with it, it really surprised me when I learned that because it sounded appealing to me. I don’t especially want people to notice my clothing and accessories, I just want to look and feel well-dressed and comfortable. That’s not possible with synthetic fibers and plastic shoes. So, I buy the best quality I can afford, because fabric/material choice is the most critical factor in comfort. A simple, understated, extremely versatile, solid-color silk dress costs about the same or less than a fancy polyester one from Self-Portrait and is much more valuable in a wardrobe. I dress mine up or down and they make great basics for many day or evening events. Even a good-quality, but not expensive, cotton or linen shirt-dress is very versatile wearable and doesn’t date. I’ve worn silk scarves for 40 years, trending or not, and every single time I wear one I get at least one compliment on my outfit, they’re a classic. Some styles have become timeless classics because they always work well and they give versatility and longevity in this world of throwaway fast-fashion. Many of my items are 30, even 40 years old. Quiet Luxury is not just a wardrobe style aesthetic, it’s a sustainable way of purchasing and maintaining a wardrobe we’ll love to wear forever. At age 63, that’s important to me, I don’t want to have to buy, say, a navy sweater every year. It does cost more, but one can buy fewer, but better, items and build a wardrobe gradually.
Can we all applaud for how smart she is - not hurting anyone's feelings but at the same time sharing her honest opinions and information about this whole topic in such a beautiful way - 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 But then again, that's what Cassie and her content is all about! ❤
Definitely an amazing fresh perspective on this especially about Hermes quota bags, there’s nothing quiet about it anymore. I laughed so hard about the Simone bag😂 I’m so over seeing people go over the top with Van Clef at this point, it’s everywhere and everyone knows
I absolutely love Omega, Aspinall and Hermes scarves. VC&A jewellery is gorgeous but it's going the way of Burberry in the 90s/early 2000s. Thankfully, the pin brooches aren't popular 🙏🏾❤
Cass you are right on the money! Its just a another way the wealthy are showing off but in a different way. I remember seeing the vancleef clover bracelets etc in magazines 20 years ago, I'm suprized at their popularity now as younger audiences have found them. I personally only buy things that I love logos or not and if they are quality they are quality. 🤷♀️
Great video. A few points: there's still amazing values to be had looking at resale Pateks (the $40K or more comment made this want to share) especially if you know what era and styles you are interested in. Also, Sophia Richie's publicist must have been working overtime because she had one of the most loudly branded (like she wore a bathing suit covered in CCs) clothes for her wedding extravaganza... nothing was quiet about it! It was almost tacky...
I think you are right Cassie. I just think you should buy and wear what you love. I have 4 Birkins; one Kelly; one Chanel vintage classic flap, one Chanel Business Affinity, Chanel Rodeo Drive Hobo Bag, Bottega, Prada, Givency, Louis Vuittons, YSL, Teddy Blake, no name leather bags, Coach, Tory Burch, Amazon straw bags, Kurt Keiger clutch, Valentino WOC, to name a few of my more than enough handbag collection. I just think if we love something and we can afford to get it, we should and enjoy them, irrespective of others’ opinions. Just my thought. I guess at 51, I'm too old to care. Lol❤️
Cassie you are the smartest luxury youtuber, seriously. Really expert insights! "Quiet luxury" just seems to mean wearing basic colors, lol. I have to say that Bottega and Loewe have a more timeless feel than Chanel nowadays.
I’ve never liked big and bold logos. So quiet luxury means just that to me. That’s why I didn’t like Louis Vuitton until the past 3-4 years. I couldn’t see myself holding a bag with a bold logo print all over
This trend is so pervasive that it is becoming "if you know, everyone knows".😅
Literally 😂😂😂
Lol yes!!!
That's the point, but people wearing logos are pretentious :)
I’m at the If you know who cares!
Yup ... Reading fashion mags since high school this trend comes every recession no matter how politicians try to sway the conversation. Fashion never lies 👍🏽
Chanel is definitely NOT quiet luxury anymore 😂 as well as Hermes - you’ve hit the nail on the head, Cassie 👍🏼
🙌🏽💖
Look at their ads.
They literally advertise to ghetto and tacky America.
I feel Tiffany is still a very classy brand but it’s disappointing how they are hiring the most random people for their ads.
It’s trend riding.
Chanel putting logos on everything is definitely adhering to tacky new money energy and female rap music energy
These brands have all betrayed culture and legacy for short term profit.
@@bperez8656also Norwegians and South Koreans lol
You are absolutely right. IMO quiet luxury is usually entirely brandless, not just brands that do not rely on logos, but custom pieces. Ordering clothing from a tailor with your measurements or asking a jeweler for a custom piece
So much this!! It’s how I grew up and my parents found most luxury brands vulgar…
I've never been one for logos. Ive taken to Tailoring my own clothes and found getting clothes that fit my body well gets me complements. They aren't high-end but the fit and fabric make me look put together. If I do buy clothing with logos it's because they are brands that hold up and I've purchased them second hand.
Bespoke shoes!
Perfect man.
Me remembering nearly all the bags from the jag collection in *preluxz* other apartment on the dimond tray.. I think i watched that video like 40 times. Purse collection goals
This trend should be called LOWKEY FLEX instead of quiet luxury 😂
Haha!! Love it!
omg!! new word to use for my urban dictionary.
“Lowkey Flex” would be an amazing name for a brand. I’m imagining atheleisure rendered in luxury fibers like sweatsuits in silk/linen blends.
😂
Low key flex is a gold term!
‘Chanel is the Zara for rich girls’ - can’t remember where I heard that quote, but thought it was funny.
THIS IS SOOO TRUE.
*suluxs* is your partner in young people’s fashion journey
*suluxs* isn’t even a superfake. i’ve seen authentic grade that smell the same as the original.
to be honest.
@@erinnadia0409 exactly!!!!
Haha I agree. My style is completely different from it like more funky street style but I kept seeing Tiktok and UA-cam vids about “how to old money style”. I feel like it will go away by the end of this year and people will go back to wearing what they used to wear/are comfortable wearing 😂
Right! Like we didn’t already wear camel like crazy 7-8 years ago. It’s really folks getting out of jeans and athleisure.
Well said
Ca$$, your spot on with this. Personally, I think this 'quiet luxury' saga is a response to logomania and the streetwear influence on all the major fashion house. Just another way to create separation in the world of luxury because it's becoming to accessible by a certain demographic...if you know what I mean.
Totally get what you mean!
You hit the nail on the head with this one!!!!!!!!!
🙌🏽🙌🏽
And I couldn’t care less if you think they ate fake. I wear whatever the hell I like.
Ugh love the videos from your parents home. The background is always giving.
Mum’s interior design is 🤩🤩
It’s just the fashion cycle. Logo mania was in fashion for a long time. Now it’s time for something different… and by different, I mean we will all go out and buy the same things and look like clones 😂
😂🥲
THIS...every recession and depression
Oohh that last point is so true 😂🙌🏽
It also does that by buying from vestataire collective and rebag i think. LVMH has stocks in resellers market.
😂😂😂. I like your last sentence 🤗👍
100% agreed - LVMH
Cosplaying generational wealth is no different than cosplaying a Hollywood socialite who wears all the logos. Most people don't have enough money in their banks to afford either lifestyles sooo
I don't understand this fascination with quiet luxury, people are simply highlighting brands that we all know about anyway. There seems to be an obsession with people who are so rich, private and disconnected that most of us cannot even imagine how they really live and what they buy. What is the point really, if we all wear neutrals now will Joe Bloggs think that we are silent billionaires riding the bus? *eye roll
😂😂🙌🏽
Chanel is also doing a brand collab with the new Barbie movie. I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing Chanel explode over the next few months
Chanel has also degraded in quality over the past decade. Anyone buying Chanel would be better off investing in Hermès.
Chanel was definitely not quiet luxury a decade ago either. It's always been a very ubiquitous and noticeable brand
@monkeyb- I would never invest in Hermes. Completely different aesthetic than Chanel.
Right!!!
Agreed!!🙌🏽💖
I can appreciate a quiet luxury style because it slides into my own minimalist vibe. I can appreciate a no holds barred, logo heavy, happily shouty style because it’s fun to look at and enjoy on others out there living their best lives. What makes me uncomfortable, and I don’t really know why, is the “old money” aesthetic thingy. It seems so striving, a bit poseur. There is one content creator couple in particular, who shall remain nameless, who just make me sad. But in the end, as one of your subscribers just said, wear what you like; who cares? ❤❤❤
Totally agree with when people try to adopt that style because of what it represents not because it’s their style 💖
@@HosCreates Agreed, so many beautiful colors!
The Row is the epitome of quiet luxury as well.
It's amazing that you still even ask... you're completely right off course😂 you're always right Cassie! The amount of effort and research you put into these videos is incredible. And they're 10 out of 10! Thank you
That means a lot to me, thank you so much 🙏🏽😭🥹💖
I find it ironically humorous that the conversation around "Quiet" luxury is now so loud.
Very interesting video Cass.
I'd also add that one quite luxury brand that ppl aren't talking about is Tom Ford - heavily featured in Succession btw
Great vid.
… SO LOUD!!!! I find it quite annoying. It’s also, free advertisement for these brands that everyone now knows about. It’s aesthetic, not a social class, but they are trying to make it a social class. No one cares how much you paid for something, do you look good and do YOU love it?
The Tom Ford film A Single Man is a fun film as well ;)
I love me some tom Ford (I'm a dude) first heard about this brand when spectre 007 movie came out and I was still in my mid teens. Now I'm early 20s and I still cannot say that I can afford this brand but one day I wanna be decked out in tom Ford, zegna, cucinelli with no logos and look fire 😂❤
Tom Ford is loud fashion for sure!
Sheep!
I think it’s probably easier to do quiet with clothes. You aren’t necessarily going to know how expensive pants and suits are from looking at someone.
I think u can tell by the quality of fabric and design and stitching etc
“If they walking around with a Himalayan Birkin, they’re not struggling with money”… come on Ca$$ 🤣🤣
Exactly, folks love to say you broke or irresponsible with money if “you” buy anything “they” wouldn’t buy themselves. I definitely agree with the “if you know, then everyone knows” 🤭🤣🤣🤣! Great video per usual!!
😂🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Totally agree
You’re absolutely right, I believe people are obsessed with quiet luxury, and want everything to be quiet luxury, outside of the elitism, is because the more unknown something is the less likely it is to be a an authentic item. My reason for that is the conversation went from oh money and turned into quiet luxury around the time. The fake Birkin slayer popped up. So I feel like a lot of people don’t want to be associated with wearing some thing that is fake. You’re more likely to see a fake never full, then you are to see a fake Mark Cross Bag
Very interesting Cassie - soon we will recognise immediately the quiet luxury brands with no logos and … the quiet bit will have to go 😅
We better go “naked”!! Now, no 2 will be alike….
I agree with what you say! Nothing wrong with loud, quiet luxury, or loud luxury! Fashion is a way of expressing one's self! I do want to ask why you say that Rolex is not a luxury. I always thought it was up there with all the watch brands mentioned. xx
Is it quiet luxury? Yes. Is it an awful bag? Also yes. Gotta love the spice 🤣
I've always bn a minimalist n their just making seem sooo tacky by overdoing it.
because Loro piana in middle east is a trend since 2017 thats why she talked about it, but people just knew about it now.
Everybody knew. You were just isolated and didn't know everyone knew which makes you even more annoying
As a Swiss, I always know all these watch brands you mentioned. Apart Rolex that became like Ferrari for cars, the rest was very quiet until recently.
Will be checking out new watch brands! Honorable mentions to Tag Heur and Omega, they are on the more “affordable” side ad well! I think people are more now looking for timeless pieces and i think that’s why there is this shift in the fashion community.
The line “let’s not pretend we don’t know what brand it is” says it all. I completely agree on this one with you.
There’s a whole other discussion to be done on why the trend ended up being quiet luxury or old money or whatever people like to call it lol
This whole comment was me trying to unpack the greatest quote of this video - which I will definitely steal: “cosplaying as generational wealth”.
And by the way, thank you for always sharing your stance on these topics in such a classy and respectful way, I feel like oftentimes reading between the lines of what you say in your videos is the real “if you know, you know”.
The Van Cleef bracelet is on my wish list!👍
I love baroque prints, I wish others than Versace made items with them. Not only are those too expensive, most are too brightly-colored for me. I have Soft coloring, so I need softer colors. I enjoy your videos, thank you.
Cassie, you are so right about the "Quiet Luxury" TREND. Now everyone knows about it, so is no longer "QUIET" lol
I think the row is worth a mention when it comes to actual quiet luxury. Also would love to go into the psychology of longchamp's le pliage
Do you like Maje and Sandro?
I’ve never commented before however I must say you are spot on with everything you’ve said. Extremely well researched and produced good for you 👏
Patek doesn’t only make the nautilus or the aquanaut, the “quiet luxury” watches in the catalogue they have a wide range of other models from the calatrava to something like the grandmaster chime which is not a sports model and these are what I would consider in the range of Patek’s quite luxury if you want to say. A solid gold watch like a 5711R will never be quiet as it’s a full gold watch.
I just bought those exact Lora Piana shoes and they are like walking on clouds! I feel rich wearing them😅
Real quiet luxury is more about natural fibers, good tailoring and dress codes at private clubs. It’s also probably more about inter generational wealth which in turn allows people to buy higher quality and travel more/have more than 1-2 homes.
Always a delight to hear Cassie 🎉❤

I live in Louisiana too and “luxury” is LOUD there! Everyone loves their logos.
I’m like this with one specific Longines watch. It’s not one you see often and it’s distinctive, historic and really cleverly made. It will be mine.
The Himalayan costing 200 000 is it’s price on the resale market, I don’t know that it costs that much to buy it from the store
You nailed it. It is so important to select items that you actually love and not get caught up in pieces that are trending.
when rainy season is over, i’m going to wear my white lv multicolore speedy 30 just bc seeing it makes me happy. that’s it, that’s all. i had it since 2008 & i still love it to pieces.
great video 💚
You’re so wonderful Marilyn, thank you - wishing you a lovely day! 💖
@@CassieThorpe U are most welcome. U as well.
I have NEVER been wanting to flaunt any brands (luxury brands). The main reason being i am SO scared of being robbed. I dont want to show anyone what my financial status is. :/
Oh and I use the trend to open to any new and small to middle brand a good chance in terms of styling.
Love that phrase “..cosplaying as generational wealth..”. Nailed it!
Your jewelry game is on point 🔥
So if millions of people are seeing the same thing being advertised , that’s what everyone is going to flock to
Good point
Please can we have a get ready with me or makeup walk through? You always look so glowy!
Nailed it Cassie!
I wanted to watch this video to educate myself on something I knew very little to nothing about. I sure did get educated. Thank you for the video!
honestly i know many people with minimalist styles-and it doesn’t just have to be looking like you’re going to a dinner party every night. the problem with people getting into “quiet” luxury is that they know it would feel like a waste to buy a $500 basic white t-shirt as compared to a $500 chanel bag where you’re paying for a “timeless” label. and they’re both cosplaying rich and as a style their don’t personally know how to implement despite identifying with.
Thank you! I always wondered what Sofia Richie in head to to Chanel had to do with quiet luxury lol
I don't get why she is the poster child for quiet luxury when she's worn very loud logo mania for years and always has worn Chanel. Chanel is so loud and has been since the 80s, with all those CC's
I was two minutes in when I hit the like button. Your personality won me over in less than two minutes… subscribing now.
Every day I learn new things today is quiet luxury ...good work xoxo
Why thank you! 💖
There are no investment shoes… if you wear shoes regularly their condition will deteriorate someday… unless you drive everywhere and the shoes barely touch the ground
Yeah clothing as well it loses money massively after you buy it
Luxury fabrics and materials, yes, quiet, restrained, understated and classic style, yes - these are what I always loved.
Hey Cassie!! You’ve inspired me to get the Swarovski lucent gold earrings. They look absolutely gorgeous on you and I just HAD to get them ❤ cheers🎉
Can we all applaud for how smart she is - not hurting anyone's feelings but at the same time sharing her honest opinions and information about this whole topic in such a beautiful way - 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
But then again, that's what Cassie and her content is all about!
At this point the quiet luxury community is much much louder than the name suggests 😂
Or more like the absence of color 😴
I’ve never liked big and bold logos. So quiet luxury means just that to me. That’s why I didn’t like Louis Vuitton until the past 3-4 years. I couldn’t see myself holding a bag with a bold logo print all over
