- A bit of a shorter upload than usual. Join me as I spend a ridiculous amount of time talking about the 3D Mario series, its highs, its lows, and why I love it so much. And when I say this video covers every 3D Mario, I mean EVERY.

Sunshine is still incredibly underrated, even to this day. Gets no respect for how unique it was relative to the other titles. Mario controls like a dream in that game.
i woke up to this playing due to autoplay this morning, i have only seen 3d land, world and odyssey so far, but this is still a beautiful video and the end got me really emotional, so i‘m gonna watch everything before that now
amazing job!
Same here lmao
As someone studying music theory and composition, the Mario games, especially the 3D ones have always amazed me and been a big inspiration. I can't begin to explain what these games have meant to me, growing up with Mario Galaxy one and two is probably the reason why I even love music so much or that I am who I am today.
I fell half asleep while watching the super Mario Odyssey part and what you were saying influenced my dream and I was dreaming of a game that would be the perfect sequel to Odyssey
Next time I go to sleep I'll loop the Odyssey retrospective video and try to remember the dream I have of it
Bro that happens to me every time I fall asleep to a gaming related vid it’s so dope
Wow bro, thats extremly impressive
I love wario in sm64ds! Yeah his jumping sucks but he can beat enemies like the snowmen way easier than the others. Picking up signs and chucking them at enemies is a fun way to defeat them, and I just recently found out he can actually kill tox blox! You just have to wait till it’s on top of you and then punch. I also love breaking the big balls that roll down at you from bobombs mountain and the huge rocks in hazy maze cave
The Super Mario Galaxy Part brought tears to my eyes 🥹
What a beautiful game it was….💙💜
You can probably tell your long retrospective essays are doing the best. Just found your channel like 20 mins ago. Love the voice, presentation, and content style. I like to watch these long retrospectives while falling asleep or cooking. Have you thought about doing retrospective series on other IPs like Metroid or Donkey Kong? Anyways, you're fucking killing it, loving the video so far.
I cant believe Miyamoto is already 70 years old :(
Wahhhhhhhhhh
i love this retrospective. while i am not great at 3D Mario or even just 3D games in general, it was a treat to listen to you about 2:40 in so far. love this
Dude, UA-cam is wack nowadays. We got ppl like you making awesome videos like this and still flying under the radar of so many users. I don't get it, but I hope UA-cam eventually gets things straight and puts small channels like yours out there.
Only 25k is a crime
I heard that commenting on the videos helps it become noticed by the algorithm, depending on how many people decide to comment I think
Additionally, the algorithm is based on timing relative to release. If people watch, like, comment within an hour of the release, it will show a *lot* more people compared to anything that comes after
This is only a compilation of content he already uploaded months ago. No wonder it doesn't get as much traction, it's just a repost.
"flying under the radar..."
Literally a 170k+ views video... you don't have a clue of what "flying under the radar" actually means kid.
All 3D Mario games are still amazing and are among some of my favorites of all time! Especially both Galaxies and Odyssey. I also still love Mario 64 as well.
I know its really only ever been seen in 3D Mario games, but I would love if Super Mario Bros Wonder ended off with a insanely difficult stage like The Perfect Run or Champions Road.
If you're looking for a fair challenge like them in a 2d platformer, I could not recommend celeste more. Chuck it on your steam wishlist at least if you haven't played it before, its incredible
The United States harasses victims of deviant sadistic abuse by pedophiles who are misusing the technology they have access to in the military. They are using technology that is meant to keep Americans safe to spy on children, show them deviant content through hacking their devices, and touch them inappropriately or drug them. Victims of this crime are raped and abused and then as they get older are then stalked and harassed both on and offline by creeps that are helping their friends get away with their crimes.
They sabotage the lives of their victims to make them as hellish as possible, and some victims don’t even know they’re victims because much of the rape happens when they are drugged or asleep. The only reason you may know is because they may leave behind physical evidence like body fluids, bruises, or scratches.
The men who do this think that they can shame their victims into silence because some of the actions are coerced. They think that the more depraved they can be with innocent children the more likely they will be too ashamed to speak out. At least some men with access to this technology are using to abuse and rape children. The victims are left with little recourse because of ten they won’t know who raped them. They try to invade every facet of their victims' lives to try to shame and mock them into silence.
Some of the 2d games had lost levels, like nsmb wii had world nine some pretty hard levels
lol kl lol
insanely difficult is an understatement lol, I literally sprained my hand trying to beat the wonder gauntlet.
This is an outstanding retrospective. I've watched it twice since yesterday! I'm looking forward to what else you come up with.
Actually, Charles Martine's first "game" debut was in "Mario Teaches Typing" from 1991 :) But Nintendo themselves seem to have forgotten that fact as we saw in the Charles Martinet retirement post/video :D
Also, you are able to get hints for the purple coins in Odyssey from the Bowser Odyssey Amiibo. I know, it's locked behind a gadget you have to buy, but the possibility is there. The next Mario game should just allow anyone to use those hints without paying for it.
Btw my ranking would be:
1. Galaxy 2
2. Odyssey
3. Sunshine
4. Galaxy
5. 64 DS
6. 64
7. Bowser's Fury
8. 3D World
9. 3D Land
they might not be able to mention it since it was a joint creation with interplay
Sunshine is undeniably so underrated, just compare the graphics and plot to other games, it was insane for a 2002 game
I binge these already over and over again, thank you for compiling all of them!! Great work, and keep on doing what you do!
I have watched this every single night (and the entire 3D series playlist) for the last two weeks and it is now just what I fall asleep too. I loved your video and enthusiasm for Mario so so much. Then after finishing it, I found your passion and voice so soothing it’s now just how I fall asleep 😂
Keep being passionate & making videos ✨
Mario Galaxy was my first 3d mario game. The soundtrack on display is so magical and unique due to it being a live orchestra recording, rather than software. Nintendo has yet to surpass it
It being live helps it, but it doesn’t automatically make it better. For instance, many of the best songs in that game are synthesized.
Also, a lot of people in the comments are repeating the live orchestra idea- Did you hear this in another video?
Very nice video man. Nice editing and I loved reliving the whole 3D mario journey. So much nostalgia and nice feelings coming back.
Super Mario Galaxy is my absolute favorite Mario title of all time, even over 2. The memories of the many long hours spent playing it as a kid both solo and with my brother and being delighted and floored by the visuals and the movement and the story. I need to go pick up an old wii and play it again, man, the switch gameplay just ain't the same.
I can't belive you did this amazing 3 hour video and it is THIS underated.
What an incredible video, I had myself laughing and crying the whole way through.
Really goes to show just how much the series we love has changed and grown!
Here’s to more videos like this!
And here’s to more Mario!
Let’s-a-go!
I love this you are by far my favorite Mario UA-camr! I’m so excited for the complete Mario kart retrospective
wow-just found myself completely binging all of your content, the quality for such a small channel is crazy. really enjoyed this video especially; subbed 😎
I’m surprised by the lack of comments :( this video & your channel is incredible
Congrats on 1M views man, been watching for awhile
Super Mario Galaxy tears me up. Such a Sad and Beautiful game… 😢
realllyyy good video, i respect you for making this long video
Now I can't get the image of Miyamito performing a backwards long jump out of my head
Hype to see my favorite UA-camr making a retrospective on my favorite series!
great vid man. 2:12:43 I love how that theme in Mario 3d world with the boxes is a remix of the character select theme from super Mario bros 2
This entertained me so much! People like you should be at the top of the for you page for Mario fans because this is AMAZING
I played this so much when I was younger… seeing the gameplay, stages, loading screens, intro screen. Hit me hard. I miss being a kid, at least I have an N64 and the original now
Wish these videos didn't have so much forced emotion in the scripts, but I do love seeing these old games.
Yeah it’s too overly dramatic. Lol 😂
UA-cam video essays be like.
Having never played them I disagree. I enjoy hearing how the game made someone feel and not just technical gameplay...there are heaps of those already.
HERE WE GOOOO
I love long videos talking about my favourite videogame franchises!
Thank you for making this three hour long video for people like me
You're growing dude! I've been following you since some months ago. Congratulations!
Awesome work dude. You deserve way more subs.
20:25. That was beautiful. Thank you.! 🙏
super mario 64 felt weird, and sometimes felt eerie.
Can I just say, this may be the greatest review video I have ever seen on UA-cam lol. You deserve a lot more subs!
Have just subbed myself :)
10:33 "while mario says his iconic line, assuming the sexuality of bowser", hilarious.
A cool secret in 3d land is in the pixel art stages, you can walk into the castle and get one ups and even go to
new parts of the stage sometimes. I always thougt that was so cool.
Super mario 3 d world is one of my favorites. I got it when my daughter was pretty young and this got us into gaming together. We would mess around and dad would get through the harder stages. So many memories
I fell in love with games when I came across mario bros on nes back in late 2001, ive been playing games almost every day ever since.
Great retrospective!
On the giant head:
There's a British guy named Giles Goddard who moved to Kyoto to help Nintendo with Star Fox, and he stayed with them for the N64 era. He was messing around with rigging and animation and he made a model of Mario's head. He put some ping pong balls on his face and setup a camera to track his own head, and then at some point Miyamoto walked past his desk and had assumed it would be part of the final game. The interactivity with the controller was meant to show off the N64's rigging capability.
To be honest with you Super Mario Galaxy is irreplaceable to my heart. I think it one of the best 3D Mario game ever.. just look at it!!! Ahhhh... nostalgia ❤
Great video mate!
The soundtrack of Mario Galaxy is so magical due to Nintendo using a live orchestra, something they haven't done since
They did with smash brawl, 4 and ultimate tho
@@Ndrew556 Skyward Sword too.

since?
This was incredibly enjoyable!
Super Mario 3D land was underrated
Peach's Castle Is so beautiful!!! Structurally talking!!! I'd love to see it in 1:1 scale, like a Museum to be visited, with the possibility to go and visit the Garden in the Front, The Backyard, the Basement and the Upstairs too, with every room and paintinga 🤩🤩😍😍
Good luck. The closest thing is Nintendo world.
@@jaguar4120 I know that, I'm looking forward to visit Japan and Universal Studios Osaka and Super Nintendo World
I can only agree with you
beautiful games with great art style and music
loved every second of the games and this video
great work
Thank you for the lengthy and thorough analysis of these games. I also want to commend you for not shitting on Super Mario Sunshine like so many people seem to do. I feel the game gets such a bad reputation just because it's not a direct sequel to Super Mario 64 like so many people wanted it to be back in the day. Despite its flaws if you take the game at face value, it's actually a pretty fun experience and very unique for a mainline Mario title. Quite underrated actually.
Super Mario 64 ds is like 50% a remake 50% a new game and more like it’s own thing
In fact I would consider it more of a remix of the original Mario 64 rather than a remake
It’s also probably where all the Mario 64 DD concepts went like playable Luigi for example
Pinna Park is my favourite level in sunshine, but it has a few safety hazards…
1. The boats do a full loop
2. You need to do a jump to get on the ferris wheel
3. The clams eat you
4. The Yoshi-Go-Round is broken
5. There are Electro-Koopas everywhere!
6. The roller coaster has a giant robot attacking it
Your commentary reminds me of Summoning Salt! Very nice to gently fall asleep along.
I agree about odyssey. When I first played Galaxy 2 i always thought how in the world can they ever top that game. After playing odyssey i was shocked and glad that they were able to prove me wrong.
What an incredible video 👏🏻👏🏻
Super Mario sunshine will always have a special place in my heart. I used to have a game cube at my grandma’s house and while she would play cards in the kitchen I’d play this game in the den and she would always ask me about the game. Such a good time man and such a good game. I miss those times
In Asutralia we had at launch Mario64, wave race, poilet wings still got my original 64 that my nan bought me with mario 64 and wave race
oh. thats a new several hour video that i get to enjoy during multiple dinner sessions.
"A bit of a shorter upload than usual"
3 hours
Thank you for making me realize I was dumb to ever get rid of Mario 3D World for Switch! Got a used copy at Gamestop today! Great video! :)
This video is perfect. I wish it was 9 hours long because I love deep dives but you manage to say so much in 30ish minutes for each game that it has the content of a 9 hour vid. Kudos
this video makes me appreciate all the 3d mario games more
The mini games in Mario 64 DS are also in New Super Mario Bros. DS. No unlock necessary. I never unlocked any mini games on 64 DS cause I could never get past the first boss. But I remember beating each minigame in the other game.
This is an exceptional video
This had a huge impact on me.
great vid! ;D
Dude, I'm not gonna lie, the controls of SM64 DS is why I never completed that game as a kid, barely touched it because of that reason.
Super Mario Galaxy 1 is my favorite Mario game because of Rosalina and her backstory. Plus the hub world is amazing. ❤
i watched so many mario ice berg videos this summer... time to watch some more mario!
Mario 64 is still my favorite 3D Mario. There’s something so charming about the graphics, the soundtrack, the sometimes wacky controls and camera (Lakitu!). But I love it. While Mario Galaxy is IMO the overall best 3D Mario title, 64 remains my favorite.
Love these kind of videos.
"Miyamoto, the director of almost every mainline Mario and Zelda game"
Not quite. He directed the 8-bit Mario titles and returned to direct 64 and his only directing credit in the entire Zelda franchise is the first game. He didn't direct any of the Pikmin games either, despite people commonly believing otherwise. With the exception of Super Mario 64 and the first two Star Fox games (where he was lead game designer not director) Miyamoto has only worked as a producer since the end of the NES/Famicom era.
fell asleep to a random youtube video and woke up to you praising super mario 3d land so i know the videos good
will watch the rest when i'm not unconscious
Its so refreshing seeing someone give 3D land the respect it deserves. Maybe it’s because of nostalgia and the fact that I haven’t played 3D world yet but it’s my favorite mario game and I barely see anyone talk about it which kinda sucks since the levels are so fun
Aggreed
glad to see retrospective
3D land was the only game I ever finished 100%. After collecting all of the starcoins in all of the 16 worlds and finishing them with both mario and luigi with the golden flag you unlock a secret insanely hard lavel. That game was truly a good game.
Sm64 was the first 3d video game I’ve ever played. Before that, I loved the Mario games, I loved seeing how fast I could go through the levels. But when I started playing sm64 i literally didn’t stop playing. I was like 7 at the time, so I don’t remember much, but I could never get the stars. It was so hard to control Mario and get him to do what I wanted. But I didn’t care, I had fun. I’ll never forget that game.
And I was absolutely obsessed wit L is real 2401. I watched videos about people explaining their theories and I even had my own.
I think one of the reasons I love this game so much is because of the situation I was in when I was young. My parents were arguing and wouldn’t stop. I went in the basement for some reason, (I don’t remember why) and I saw the game. I went to my arguing parents and asked them to play with me. We all sit down while we took turns dying. My parents didn’t argue the whole time. My parents aren’t together anymore, but it doesn’t change how I see the game.
A million views babyyyy congrats
I fell asleep and was listening to this while I was sleeping and I had a dream about the 3ds coming out like it was new and that there was a lot of very realistic games with live action stuff-
Considering Sunshine was made in only 18 months is astonishing and a testament to the ones working on the game. It may not be the best Mario game but its certainly nothing to scoff at.
Oh my god I fell asleep with this playing and I heard every second in my dream. Mental
SAME WTF
Watched the whole thing. This shit is quality content right here!
My personal favorites were 3D Land and 3D World, I really loved the levels, and they just feel like a simple, fun, and a little challenging game, that’s why they are my favorite.
Holy frijoles I thought this was a 30 minute video and i looked at the time and its been *3 hours*
This vid is great 👍
37:34
I actually straight up enjoyed both of those segments. Thought they would make decent mini games in Mario party.
The blooper riding was harder but once mastered was very enjoyable.
Now I know what I’m binging today
This is the perfect video to fall asleep to
Great video! But just a correction, Super Mario 64 was NOT the first mario game voiced by Charles Martinet. That game was actually Mario Teaches Typing. 😊
Fun fact: The slot room's blocks are synced to the tempo of the song. So you can win big prize if you time your jump correctly.
Thank for actually giving us high quality Mario content to quench my thirst.
2:31 "But then a year later they let Philips release this shit" 😆🤣
I never had any issues with the sandbird or the lily pad in sunshine, even as a kid. The lava boat and the pachinko machine on the other hand... 😅
Im surprised he didn’t mention the giant sting ray
They nailed it with Odyssey I can 100% see 64 and Sunshine inspiration from Odyssey but it's also completely different
You are a Mario enthusiast and it shows. In a good way.
There is so much negativity going on and being grumpy and hate things are so common nowadays it´s getting on my nervs.
I don´t agree with you in some statements, but it´s really nice to see how much you like these games.
Out of the 3D Mario games I played only 3D World, 3D Land and Odyssey and I think they are great.
Played the game boy games more and to my shame I have to admit, I never completed Mario Land...
The best thing about the Mario games for me is, how it binds generations together. Nearly everybode can pick up a Mario game and have fun.
I have shown the games to my 7 year old nephew, while he does not like the old ones, he was blown away by 3D Land and completed it.
What I really dislike about the Mariogames in general is this stupid lag when you collect a powerup.
Especially in the multiplayer there is a big chance you mess up if someone gets hit or is getting bigger. That really needs to change.
Really good and ambitious work. I had fun watching it.
I fell asleep a couple hours ago with Autoplay on and woke up watching this. Now I wanna download an emulator
If you have a 3DS Mario 64 is playable but you have to mod your system
well yeah 3ds Mario 64 is playable (I actually did a 31 star speedrun on my save file) but unless you have a New 3DS the game doesn’t run well at all, slowing down m constantly on levels that usually don’t lag
I always loved how super mario 64 was made. It didn’t make you go one way and let you do almost anything. It was awesome. And I would ALWAYS play 64 DS on long car rides
Super Mario 64 is one of the most influential games of all time.
That's true doesn't mean its the best though 😉
@@kill3rs529 i would say super mario galaxy is best 3d mario
Yeah no shit
Did you know super mario bros 2 is actually doki doki panic
We already know that
