2:50 His horrified ‘what the fuck’ when he first gets a proper look at her always cracks me up. It’s one of the most realistic reactions I’ve ever seen from a horror game protagonist. I feel like I’d say the same thing, exactly the same way. They’re usually underwhelmingly nonchalant in the most insane situations.
It felt so natural, i didn't really process it until I read your comment 10 hours later. Other games it's like "oh my god *fake cries*"

I’m too scared to play horror games and this is perfect for me. I love lore of games and this keeps me from getting scared but, learn the back stories of everything. Keep making more!
Same tried playing horror couple times, scared to nightmares. Many of them have such interesting stories and concepts, play throughs don't cover them in completion most of times

I play horror games sometimes, but some scare me quite a bit.
I much rather watch playthroughs or watch these lore videos.
I'm fine with horror books or movies, though.
Additional note: Belle as a vengeful ghost brings box cutter as her weapon because that’s what she used to cut the strings to perform nail jinx by herself.

As a person from Thailand, I've actually been told about most of these ghosts as a child. I immediately recognized the giant as soon as I saw it.
As a Thai dude myself, I'm really thankful for you explaining the lore of Home Sweet Home. Plus, they represent the ghost cultures of Thailand.

Okay I'm realizing now that it's a little boring for me to just say "same" without adding anything to the conversation, but I don't really know what else to say so here's a couple of gibberish:

Question. Since you're Thai, is there anything that you regularly do to keep negative entities and spirits out of your space? Just curious.
@@MissAfricanAmerican99 I'm sure others can answer this better than me, but first of all I'd say when weird or suspicious things happen that seem like badluck or an evil spirit, we usually go to the temple or to a monk to do merits (just like what Jane did in the video). Even if it's not to do merits, in most cases if you go to a monk I'm sure they can help you with any evil spirits. I think in general doing merits on a daily basis will put you on the safe side.
Second thing are ศาลพระภูมิ (San Phra Phum) which translates to "Spirit House". You'll see these shrines outside of most neighborhoods or buildings or facilities. I'm pretty embarrassed for not knowing much about this, but I think the shrines house protective spirits. You'll see locals offering flowers, food and drinks for these spirits by putting them on their shrines and praying.
A 3rd thing is a symbol that's painted infront of doors to a house or room. I'm sorry, I don't really remember what the symbol looks like or what it's called so I'm hoping someone else can explain this one better.
A 4th thing is keeping a small sculpture of a monk or Bhuda in your house that you offer food and drinks to. I gotta say eversince my father brought one to our home, I felt so much safer.
A 5th thing is wearing a necklace of a monk or Bhuda. This is a weird story, but when I was a kid my friend from school was "possessed". Even though I don't want to believe in demons and evil spirits, I don't know how to logically explain what happened to her. She was a different person everytime and our entire class came to check on her. And when she was back to herself you could tell she was scared of whatever that thing was. The moment she had an episode in front of me, I ran to my driver at the time who frequently went to the temple. As soon as he put his religious necklace on her, she just stopped permanently. It was insane.
But yeah that's kinda all I know. I hope this helps your interest, it's cool that you asked and I appreciate it.
Since there are a lot of Thai-Chinese families in Thailand, I also wanna add the following:
1. Having a red shrine in your house that you also offer food to.
2. Following Chinese New year traditions by cleaning the house at the right time and wearing red at the right time, and praying to your ancestors while offering food and riches for them to enjoy in the afterlife.
I think that's all I really know unfortunately. But yeahh I'm sorry this was long...

I really liked the first part of Home Sweet Home. I find that the second episode is less scary and feels more action oriented. But still: a fantastic indie horror game with a rich lore from Thailand. Thanks for covering it, Harry!
I know this is old but I agree. I wish the 2nd one focused more on the lore of things like that from Thailand and being more scary atmospherically and with the threats. It was a little too one note.

As much as I love horror games, sometimes the lore can get jumbled up when I am running around trying to solve puzzles and escape from enemies chasing me. These sum up videos help a lot.

@Gaming Harry. There's an absolutely amazing, plot-driven Taiwanese game called The Bridge Curse road to salvation (based on the film). It has a REALLY DEEP and introspective plot that I couldn't really understand and would love your interpretation. I literally couldn't stop watching the entire playthrough...

@@SteedRuckus I've played multiple horror games in VR in the past. While VR makes them scarier there's something about it that makes it more manageable. I figured it would be the same with this game, boy was I wrong.

I’ve been waiting for someone to cover this game. I know it was played a while ago by certain gaming UA-camrs, but it wasn’t widely talked about. Thank you for this.
I've seen a playthrough of this game before, and the Preta was honestly the coolest and scariest thing I'd seen in a horror game like this. The mechanic of having to hide from its eye spotlight while it stalks outside this massive house, and the feeling of safety when you made it to a portion of the house it couldn't reach.

10:28 to 14:33 this is really interesting about Belle for me because I wanted to know a lot more about her backstory of what is gonna happen to her? Like is belle, Shane and Sherry's other parents gonna find out that all 3 have died, this place is crazy in Thailand and if this is a true story then I would be freaking out like literally.
It’s not a real story lol but some thai people definitely trust in a lot of supernatural things. I don’t know if these jinxes are real but they do exist, I’ve heard a lot about them. I don’t trust in such a thing even though I’m thai, but I sometimes encountered something that I can’t explain in the past, so let’s just say I’m kind of skeptical about this. You can watch the movie named “The Medium” to learn more about this subject, I definitely recommend it.

@@spider-faiz9138 I also think it is too, probably not Buddhism but Brahmanism in my opinion. In the ancient time, these spells were used to protect our family or doing good deeds. Which is different from nowadays that people using it to harm their enemies or satisfy their greed. They used 2 out of 4 types of Thai black magic in this game. Cursed nails jinx is low level black magic and Lechery jinx is medium level black magic, I think.

@@spider-faiz9138 Yeah, unless it's a black magic spell that's hard to break. I don't remember what spell it was, but the way to break this spell was to use a sword that made from the horns of an albino buffalo that died from lightning 😂
I’ve really been trying to get through Darkwood just for the story but even on the easiest difficulty it’s terrifying and I already missed an event lmao.
