In the final room with the bridges, if you jump off into the void, you survive a bit before seeing a light in the distance and the roar from the Shadow. The same roars from The Dark Decent.
I don’t understand why it’s there though? There weren’t any crystal balls involved. Maybe it was meant to be a call back to the other Amnesia games? Still a cool touch.
@@aidangold5461 Maybe there was a artefact somewhere in the ruin, but no one "found" it and took it (since the context is arround war, most people are busy) wich in the end don't triger the shadow, wich is the orb's guardian. (Maybe the orb is in the dark pit, it emit light)
17:15 Fun Fact: In Lambert's notes, he described the "spring water" Henri gave him as _"strangely sweet, cool, and crisp"._ This is actually because of the abnormally high calcium count in it. Y'know, from the dead bodies strewn all over the place :) *_from the war :D_* A scenario like this actually happened back in England too. Aldgate pump located near East End suddenly had it's water become bright, cool, and have an agreeable taste. That's because the old watering hole ran through the town's newly built cemetery. The water made the residents that drink it turn ill from all the bacteria that came along with the sweet calcium. It eventually got shut down in the late 1800s but not before a whole epidemic started where most of the residents who drank the water died. So in order to save Lambert from his death, Henri made him drink corpse infused rain water (and potentially some eldritch strength serum that turns you into a horrible monster) whilst he was practically half dead in a ditch somewhere along France's maginot line, probably filled with a few good bits of shrapnel and bullets. War is such fun :)
I would have to say one of the biggest horrors behind the Beast. it was not created by malice or greed or even desire for knowledge or some other selfish reason. simply a soldier wanted to help a dying friend and grabbed the worst bottled water ever
If I was Henri in that situation I'd be banging my head against the wall in frustration with my stupidity. Bro single-handedly got Lambert trapped in the pit with the ghoul juice and then proceeded to have him drink it. Henri really is the entire reason everyone in the bunker gets massacred.
I really like that the “Roman” tunnels have the real Roman colors. It wasn’t all white marble. The Roman loved vibrant colors and pretty much all of their sculptures were painted to reflect that
Pretty much all of the classical sculptures right back to Ancient Greece would’ve been painted in their hayday. Much like the arms of Venus time has taken away the much less resilient paint.
On the other hand Mithras is a 3rd century religion which means the Roman architecture and sculpture should look more simplistic and blander compared to the golden ages of the Princepate. They should look uglier and more amateurish. Not to mention Mithras was not that much popular in the Western parts of the Empire. You will have Helios and Sol Invictus for that, but not Mithras
I think Lambert turned into The Beast instead of a Ghoul because the water was tainted by rats. The Beast has many rat-like features, but still has the general outline and claws of a Ghoul. Pretty sure kind of the same thing happened in The Dark Descent. Alexander didn't have the right ingredients here on Earth to make the water that turns people into Ghouls, so he improvised and the men who were tricked into drinking the "wine" became The Gatherers, who essentially do the same thing as Ghouls do (kidnap people and torture them for their vitae), they are simply dumber and more disfigured. The Grunt, for example, has Ghoul-like claws.
So far I understand, you are right. I'm not really educated with Amnesia series story but I have watched this game and read the notes. It would seem Lambert drank the water Henri gave him and this water gave him the strength to turn into this beast losing his sanity. However, if you throw the bunny at the end at him he will react to it meaning some of his humanity remains intact. How he turned into the beast with this water I am not sure, some say the water is infected with the rats and the dead. Others state the water was the same as those from the previous installments only a much older variant and it has connection to a outerworld being.
@@RainbowRenegadefun fact, if you throw the rabbit to distract the monster, you can retrieve it later from it's nest in the chapel (on the alter) and use it again, great for a hard difficulty playthrough.
I've heard a really good theory about why Lambert's ghoul is so different than the ones in Rebirth. Vitae is made when humans are in mental and physical pain. A theory I heard is that the water is not only the same toxic water from Rebirth that makes ghouls, but it's also mixed with Vitae from soldiers who died near it in the war. The mix of Vitae and the ghoul water made Lambert a very powerful ghoul, bigger then anything seen in Rebirth.
@@johnrodriguez859meh. alien isolation is more like the working joe apocalypse. cant call it an alien game when youre just avoiding and fighting working joes for 70% of the game. and then comes the alien which doesnt even climb on stuff or slither around, just walks around like a human but faster and louder. as a standalone game its fine, as an alien game its as disappointing as colonial marines.
6:12 That’s probably a German sniper(s). Historically, the German sniper problem on the Western Front was so bad it was considered suicidal to poke your head above the trench parapet for even a few seconds. The sniper(s) obviously see him but can’t actually kill most likely because the slit that machine gunners use to fire out of is too small. Seems like the pillbox is working as intended.
If I saw the monster and then discovered that area where I can squeeze through and escape - I would definitely do that. I'd be scared to death and would rather get shot by a sniper than killed by the ghoul. Idk, indicate somehow that I want to surrender and take my chances lol.
@@ComradeStrogg My thought when I got in the pill box was, why not wait until night and then leave? Doesn't seem like the beast ever attempts to climb the ladder or come up no matter how much noise you make. Germans will have a hard time seeing you slip out in the night for your getaway.
Id rather be shot by the germans. Literal heaven compared to what Henri experienced in the bunker. Even one of the soldiers said it on a letter, he would rather face 1000 german guns.
I really wanted Lambert to wreck hell onto the Prussians surrounding Henri. If only that happened if 1) You don't kill Lamby and 2) You wear the gas mask at the end game
I just honestly do not enjoy games where the ending possibility isn't 'good'. Cuz what's the point? Dead in the bunker? death by nazi torture? Why should I care for the storyline when the result is shitty no matter what?
I went to the pillbox quite late into my playthrough, I had been stuck in the bunker hiding from the beast for hours before finally making it to the pillbox. That entire experience when climbing to see the light thinking youre free then being shot at by the german sniper completely threw me off. I had completely forgotten that there was a war going on (despite the continual bombing of the bunker) it made me pause for a second thinking that those soldiers have no idea that im stuck in here with a monster, they think im there to shoot back at them. A very well used set piece.
Maybe why Lambert was so big as a Ghul is because he was surrounded by, and inflicted so much pain and suffering (Also probably internally suffering aswell). Therefor much Vitae. He grew fast because of this?
It should be noted that digging underneath your enemies position to destroy said position (a tactic referred to as undermining) is actually a real thing, it had been used in varying forms since the Middle Ages and was used in WW1 as well. I do know for a fact that the British and Germans used it but not sure about the French. All the dynamite they had in the Arsenal they probably intended to put underneath the German trenches to blow them up.
The Bunker is probably my favortie Amnesia so far, and it gives me some appreciation for Rebirth. TDD feels like a prologue to what Frictional is setting up between Bunker and Rebirth, and I hope if they make another Amnesia itll wrap everything up as a tidy trilogy.
I'm not sure how Amnesia could end, story-wise. Perhaps a story centred around the nazis in ww2 experimenting in using orbs a d trying to create ghouls to be used as slaves
I don't think this is the type of series that could have an ending, because each of the four games is a different tale and althpugh there is some causality between them, they really aren't connected that much in a way that would create one narrative from start to finish, it's just different scenarios caused by the same fucked up otherworld and it coming into cobtact with earth
for someone like me who loves games and the lore but will never get to play most of them these explained vids are perfect so I can appreciate the story
This games atmosphere is addicting to me. I can’t stop looking around and soaking in the environment and my surroundings. I normally don’t enjoy starting games on easy mode ever but I like it for frictional games like the bunker and soma so you can just experience the story and game design. I sincerely hope they keep making games like this cause it really works. One thing though is I feel the light is a lie 😂
The way I understand the mechanics of the monster are that he's always within the vicinity of the player as soon as you leave the save office. Now, if there is light the monster will stay inside the walls until the player makes a noise at which point he will crawl out of the nearest hole and switch to phase 2 aka physically walking in the vicinity of the player. With no lights the monster is always in phase 2.
@@banjoleb If you played alien isolation, treating The Beast like the Xenomorph made the game almost trivial for me compared to Dark Descent where you cant really fight back
@@RigobertosTacoShop I completed Alien Isolation many times but find the monster in Amnesia The Bunker a lot harder to avoid. Also you can't see when the lights are out, your torch makes noise etc. It's very tough, you kinda have to just get lucky and hope he goes searching somewhere else for a while. Getting back from the Chapel / Maintenance area is particularly troublesome for me.
@@DANBAN119 If you take a look of some the protagonists of the amnesia series, it make Henri look like a saint compared to well either Daniel or Justine.
The shadow shows up in the bunker. At the end of the game. The final encounter with the beast. If you fall into the abyss down below. You’ll go into a cutscene where henri sees a red orb. That gets bigger and bigger before dying
Just beat the game this morning, man I absolutely loved it. It’s short, there’s definitely more exploring and things I probably could have done but overall, amazing atmosphere, very grim story. I almost kind of liked the ending, even though you’re free of the bunker you’re still in the midst of a war and surrounded by the enemy, either way you’re screwed. Even when you get to the pillbox and see the outside you think to yourself, freedom? Nope. Immediately start being shot at. Really intensifies the feeling that no where is safe, everything wants you dead.
You spoke it well. I woulda hated the ambiguity if it weren't for that fact that supposedly Henri found out about Lambert's fate which is the most emotionally impactful for the game so far (and I say supposedly since that would be up to the player's choice to seek for and look at the notes). This in a way connects an impact well that tells how much war will never care about how much you suffered, wept, or even gained friends along the way, ones that you may lose as well. Most of the Germans hunting you down will never see your side ever, believe you, or else care. And at worse, maybe you won't be shot unless you put down your weapons (I mean they cut that part off for a reason to be left ambiguous), maybe you'll be luckily alive, however jailed in their cell like that German prisoner in the bunker.
@@drewbrown3116 yeah, I actually completely missed the part about Lambert and what became of him, but after I found that out I was actually even more shocked. I’d like to replay the game again and go through trying to 100% every detail and find every note and really uncover everything there is. The ending definitely felt like it left room for a potential sequel or maybe a small DLC. Depending on which ending you got.
It's the same when you find the crater with the toy rabbit. You're outside, but you know that you have to crawl back inside the dark tunnels again. You have to willingly reenter the nightmare
I wonder why Lambert changed into a massive monster while Tasi's friends just turned into regular ghouls. I have 3 theories so far, but it could be a combination of them. 1) The water is different. While it may be a similar substance to what Tasi's crew drank, it could be slightly different and that's what produced the changes. The differences could be from how the fluid was made, it being old/expired, it being contaminated, etc. Being a different substance caused a different mutation. 2) Tihana personally guided Tasi's crew to the water source for them to drink. Perhaps she had some control over it and adjusted how they mutate so they become perfect ghouls every time, instead of abominations like Lambert. This could be due to some magical/technological input on her end, or merely be her administering a specific dosage - while Lambert just chugged a whole bottle. Without her supervision, his transformation spiraled out of control. 3) Injury. Tasi's friends were dehydrated but only suffered minor injuries from the crash. Lambert fell at least 50', had concussive injuries from the artillery going off, and probably had either gunshot wounds and shrapnel from the arty as well. His body was *much* worse for wear compared to Tasi's crew, so the mysterious water had to fix more damaged tissue and probably over-mutated Lambert's body. Like I said, it could be any one of these, maybe a combo or all three, or something else entirely.
I hadn't thought of that last part, totally makes sense. Theres' also another theory someone else mentioned, which is that the water had a sweet taste due to the high concentration of calcium in the water (likely due to the water being corrupted by dead bodies in some way). Perhaps the water *was* very similar/the same as Tasi's crew drank, but due to the much higher amount of vitae (coalesced from many dead infantrymen), and the extreme bodily mutiliation caused from the fall + being hit with a bomb, etc, resulted in the mutation we see. There's another fan theory that somehow the rats got into this liquid far before (which is why we hear the noises in the tunnels super early, before Lombart ever drinks the water), and that's why Lombart's transformation is sort of rat-inspired. Though I fail to see that being the answer, as we do not see any rats in any abundance near the pool.
@@amanwithnoplan7648 That falls under my Theory 1. It could be contaminated from the war (dirt, sweat, blood, corpses, lead from bullets, gear & equipment, etc).
I was also thinking 3 could be likely. In Rebirth it's made explicit that wounds to the human body during the transformation process will accelerate the transformation. So the fact that Lambert's body got so incredibly eviscerated from the war made the substance overcompensate like you say. Turning him into a more extreme version of the regular ghoul.
You also have to remember the setting. It's WWI. The entire continent is charged with suffering, pain, fear, and violence. The ground is saturated with the blood of terrified men. This has always been the focal point of vitae even back to TDD. Maybe that is why Lambert transformed so suddenly and violently. It was the spring water from Rebirth charged with vitae and negative energy from the war. Mandus should've kept the machine on...
I feel like what they did with packing this lore in-game is quite impressive considering how this seems a lot more gameplay focused than ever and it being a smaller game than ever. Although the downfall with it is that I felt like they shoulda had one or some voice lines of Henri's reactions to Lambert's diaries, having a sign of being regretful or sorry for him for that emotional punch. Considering the only narrated notes are from both of em, highlighting them being the 2 central characters of the story. That I guess is what you get trying to remedy from the criticism of Rebirth (I for one consider this game an apology for making the last one too story oriented). Aside from that, I like what they did the best they can setting up.
@@georgerockwell6124 I see, but I think it's kinda eh for me not adding in a sparse lines there and there to make me feel for Henri as a character. Just only a few words I mean you get me? And yeah, I can see Rebirth does prob need to trim some lines there n there.
From an immersion perspective, I don't want Tasi's or Henri's reactions to being scared, just let me be scared. I really didn't like Rebirth and Tasi took me out of it, but loved Bunker. But from a narrative and emotional storytelling perspective, I understand wanting to hear Henri's reaction to Lambert's notes and such. Sadly I feel like both can't coexist. The voiced monologues for important notes works, but having reactions to thing would be weirdly jarring unless you went full-voiced protagonist. Maybe writing could work though. Like a momento written by the protag at the end of notes.
@@drewbrown3116 I think Soma nailed it pretty much. Like it's ok for the character to talk when meeting other human beings and such and shutting up when it's quiet, but Tasi constantly chattering at every moment despite being alone and in spooky monster filled environments for 98% of the game was very annoying to listen to as well as pointless story wise. Henri i think could have had some spoken moments like when he met the wounded soldier or during the battle scenes when Lambert was there to assist him so he didn't seem mute, but otherwise it was just fine that he didn't say anything.
Also, there was a satue, when you were about to exit the alien site at the end of the game, when running away/ fighting off the monster. This statue was dedicated to Empress Tihana. It is definitely connected to the Rebirth game.
I think the most simple explanation for Lamert's unique transformation is the tainting of the water by rats and corpse's creating a different kind of ghoul. My question is how was Lambert able to write notes after his transformation in which he would have already killed Reynard?
Man it’s always a good day when a new Lore and Order video comes out. I’ve never been able to play horror games (I hate getting scared) but I love the deep lore a lot of these games have. Also if you looking for some more games to look at I recommend the Project Moon games, Lobotomy Corporation and Library of Ruina. They are awesome and have a fantastic story with some amazing monsters
@@JDM-is-my-name Kind of a shame. These horror games are a gem but to many people are afraid of them. Games like alien isolation were received really well but sold poorly. There is a reason why there arent really any or barely any horror AAA games (resident evil and dead space remakes are more action than horror).
Something I thought of! A lot of people don’t talk about this, but isn’t the fact that the monster causes the lights to flicker consistent with Machine for Pigs? I thought the Manpigs did the same thing.
Honestly I think Frictional hit it out of the park with the Bunker. They finally went back to what made The Dark Descent and Soma such incredible experiences. I wasnt a fan of Rebirth, to me it played more like an action adventure game than a horror one, the atmosphere was constantly undermined for abstract puzzle sets and character interactions(which wouldve been fine if the writing was incredible, like in soma). And Machine for Pigs, while good in its own right, was clearly an outlier in the series for being developed by a different company.
Another great analysis video, well done. A small, irrelevant detail from Justine carried over into Rebirth, and now Bunker, is the Fournier family lineage. Victor Fournier in Amnesia: Justine is one of the men Justine kidnapped and used in her morality game. Justine takes place in ~1850 (she was around 10 y/o when her father aided Herbert in starting his Algeria expedition, and I'm assuming she's 20 - 25 or so when the events of Justine take place, as she's evidently an adult), so Victor obviously isn't this same Fournier, but potentially a great-grandson of his. Interestingly enough, another Fournier is present during the events of the 1929 fort attacks described in Amnesia: Rebirth. Whether it's another member of the same Fournier family, or a different family lineage altogether, trouble really does seem to follow them around lol.
The Bunker is the first game that introduced me to Amnesia. I've heard about the series in the past but never bothered to look into it until now. After playing a bit of the game and watching your lore video, I'm completely hooked in on the rest of the games 😊
This channel deserves so much more positive attention. I hope you continue to produce such high quality material. You truly are making some incredible consistent art.
It’s really cool seeing the connections to rebirth, and imo you can’t play rebirth without playing the bunker or the other way around. Lambert as the “Super-Ghoul” was absolutely terrifying and a delight to escape from, I just wish the game was longer! This opens up the idea as well that there are tears all over the world, and multiple instances of horror and torment caused by the queen and her dark world, it’s awesome and terrifying, can’t wait to play the next game from frictional! 👻
It's got great potential, but I personally can't help but want to know more about the Shadow. Tihana's story was pretty well explained in Rebirth, but we still haven't learned much about the Shadow and what lies beyond even Tihana's domain.
As somebody who has been playing frictional games for around 13 years i think rebirth was awful. Its cool that they explained the lore more but the gameplay suffered greatly and the protagonist was annoying because she would talk every 5 seconds which really takes you out of the atmosphere. When i first heard about the release of the bunker i still felt salty about the previous game but they took the crititc of rebirth serious and improved in the bunker. I would love to see another soma like game from them again.
I remember there was one point in my playthrough that someone with a horrible voice called out "Henri...", however I do not remember where it happened, except that it was in the bunker. If anyone has heard Henri's name being called at a certain point in the game, it'd be great to know I wasn't hallucinating.
It could be lambert i think. Maybe like Tasi, Lambert can also go back to human and to ghoul and again human and in one of those episodes he called henri. or simply he just remembered henri like he remembered his son's doll.
One thing that should be mentioned is that when Henri escapes the bunker and falls into the crater of bodies. His head submerges into the water for a split second. I wonder if that means he ingested some of it and thus will turn into the beast.
@@redeclipse4ever409 The water in the crater came the tainted springs beneath the temple. Henri falls into the water in a shell hole, which is probably just rainwater. Also keep in mind that Augustin drank a fair amount from the canteen, whereas Henri just had his head under water for maybe a second.
@@ulfskinn1458 but it can't end like that germans soldiers screaming not far to him and black screen there is something missing is he dead is he alive what happened to henry??
I'm extremely happy that this game was so successful! Not only because the attention and money given to Frictional Games means a chance at a remake of the Penumbra games and a sequel to Soma, but also the claustrophobic trench warfare of WW1 as a setting for horror media in general. We also got an amazing horror game out of it as well.
I love the way you not only explained the recent AMNESIA game but also recapped and established the connection it has with previous game; this is why this channel is awesome! Good work, @Gaming Harry!
The tunnels were very creepy to play. Seeing these deformed silhouettes was surprisingly unnerving and by the time I heard the trenchgun guy talking somewhere close I started to think of a possible new monster ready to jumpscare me. I was thinking of a ghoul obviously but that was just the human being. Quite unnatural to encounter ranged combat with the moving AI in Amnesia game... far less scarier but surely interesting.
The bunker would be a nice horror, monster movie. But I guess with the perspective of the soldiers living the horror. Then I guess the movie ends with the soldiers escaping by blowing up the exit and it ends with the protagonist of the game waking up with the suspenseful dread of how the game I guess starts. Then boom, prelude to the game or prequel to it I guess.
I didn’t even think of trying to kill the monster on the bridge area, I knew the rabbit had some sort of use but I instead used fuel canisters and a lighter to give me time to escape, it then shows lambert escaping right after Henri falls if you do it that way.
Bunker was a phenomenal experience, just finished my 2nd playthrough. The entire senerio is so tragic: WWI, Vitae from dying soldiers and the Rebirth water, Henri wanting to save his friend and this calamity he unknowingly brought about his entire bunker. I haven't heard anyone say anything about this, but on my 2nd playthrough in the soldier quarters, I on literal blind luck hid under Lambert's bunk bed just as the Stalker came back and it said in a confused Lambert's voice, " where... are my friends...?" Both endings are really bittersweet or tragic. The defeating the Stalker ending is tragic because evident from the Stalker's voicelines, Augustin is still trapped in his new body, so its sad he gets devoured by the Chasm's Shadow, and Henri gets captured or killed by German soldiers. But on the other hand, the Escape ending has The Stalker escape into the wilderness wreck havoc among the unknowing German soldiers and the rest of the world. Hopefully we get Dlc expanding the "Escape" ending maybe? I feel another senerio where Henri has to escape a German bunker or encampment while the monster is prowling about would be really cool.
I'm confused regarding Lambert's transformation and Henri waking up from his coma, as we start to play him. Lambert himself literally wrote, before he became the beast; ''Spoke to the doctor. He told me Henri woke in the night and had no recollection of the events in the crater.''
@@nicknamed1267 It happens in regular sleep too. If you wake up for a really short period of time then sleep again it's entirely possible you won't remember it at all, even if you talk during it. I've had short phonecalls that have gone this way, hah
Nice job on the French names and connecting the narrative events together. I admit to having a bit of trouble making sense of the documents while watching SuperHorrorBro play through this "return to roots" game for the Amnesia series. I liked the overall experience.
I’ve never played these games because I would be utterly terrified. But, I love hearing the lore behind the games. You’ve nailed the atmosphere and I want more lore and order!!
Theres some notes about the entire area around the temple being used for rituals regularly, these rituals caused blood and vitae to be released, it seeped into the ground water and collected in the natural springs that the temple was built on top of. The war, with all of the death and terror involved works similar, once again causing the water to become infused with vitae and to collect in/near the temple ruins. The temple isnt a source of the water, or a gate to the other realm, but its sited on the best collection point. Not necessarily key to the story but its my interpretation of some of the background information, thought I'd share.
What are the implications of the Chapel, it seems like the transformation into the beast was rather slow one since at some point he was able to torture, hang up and skewer victims with stakes and chains.
I’m sure Lambert was still semi-self aware when he did it. The Chapel is the beasts “nest” and the journals from Lambert imply that Lambert frequented the chapel. In Lamberts second journal near the very end, where he started saying he wanted the blood and pain of his fellow men over and over is when I assume he did up the chapel like that, when he completely lost it and likely fully transformed after. Either that or the Beast took the corpses of the men he slaughtered to the chapel afterwards to mark its territory, seeing as it is its “nest”.
I think the Vitae on Rebirth and Bunker is the same thing that Alexander used to create his goons in The Dark Descent. You can see on the flashbacks that they transform after drinking adulterated wine.

Fun fact in the last area with the pulsing light if you jump down to your death you'll be greeted by the "Shadow" in a easter egg from the first Amnesia game : )
Its a pity FG didnt allow safe areas to explore, like the back hall in TDD, to develop the lore better in the bunker. Putting minimal lore in the scary parts is best as now i missed a lot due to the focus of survival rather than exploration. TDD had safe areas to explore and for the lore to develop naturally.
You need around 5 molotovs and 1 torch (tunnel) to comfortably deal with all the rats, and a couple grenades to quickly deal with doors. Resources arent really an issue even on hard (especially when you figure out that traps can be disarmed with bolt cutters and grenades looted from them). The real pain here is getting the lighter if you arent willing to abuse the save system. Didn't find much use for gas grenades tho. Also you can just dump your loot on the floor in the safe room.
I wonder as well the pit Henri falls in at the end of the game, will he become like Lambert too? But adversely touching the water in the amnesia universe doesn't seem to affect its host, only when ingested, does someone start turning.
I'm confused regarding the timeline of Lambert's transformation and Henri's awakening. Lambert wrote in the same note that he started feeling better/stronger that he spoke with the doctor about Henri waking up at night and having no memory of what happened or where he is. So we do not take control of Henri the moment he wakes up from his coma, but way after... Also, why does nobody mention Lambert regarding the interrogation of the ''murderer'' or that he is missing at one point? They only write about him the moment he returned to the bunker with Henri, but never afterwards.
Henry kept coming and going into a coma like state. He snaps out of it permanently when the horror begins Lambert not being mentioned in notes is just for plot ig. Cuz it really doesn’t make sense for him not to
Im replying 10 months later but the soldiers dont seem to like Lambert much, for whatever reason. Henri writes about being frustrated no one seems to really care at all hes most likely dead. No one writes about him like youve said, and I think they most likely just didnt notice he'd disappeared again.
First time on your channel, as I was searching for validation on my deduction. Once I found the stuffed animal (rabbit) I was starting to believe the monster may be Lambert, based on his letters, strength, getting the drink of "water". Also his note about being fixated on the rabbit.. During the final showdown, I threw the bunny on a wooden bridge, to see the monster stop and play/pick it up. Ah ha! Then I blew the bridge up 😂 Well done explanation and break down! Subbed
The name "Lore & Order" is seriously underrated, especially coming from somebody with a British accent. The way the Brits say 'law' sounds like "lore" already so the name is effectively a pun on Law & Order, also adding that layer with the accent, while also being self descriptive as to what the series is about. Pure genius, genuinely.
Is it possible that Frictional Games is trying to setup this alien world and deity as the antagonist for whichever game is the last in the Amnesia series?
imo she just talked too much, especially when i wanted to just do a nice simple quick baby check for my sanity, and she locks me in place waiting for me to finish dialogue to progress…
I have a feeling that Henri being exposed to the vitae and all that has a descendant running around that will end up meeting the baby from Rebirth. Both would have been exposed to stuff via their parents (if the timeline is how I think it is) and opens a way for them to be running around to the other world.
The hand-held light Henri (you as a player) used bears mechanical resemblance to the traveler's locket. While the locket transports you to another world, the other only provides light for limited time. You can see the rotor through the back plate, similar to the locket having multiple hands and also has a see-through cover; & you have to pull the cord several times to light up, albeit noisily. It's alright in most cases, but not very good when you're being hunted down by friend-turned-ghoul or Germans trying to kill you while moving stealthily I wonder if that light is real though. Lemme check
@@jehoiakimelidoronila5450 On the wikipedia page for "Mechanically powered flashlight," if you scroll down there is a picture showing a German dynamo flashlight from WW1 which the one in the game appears to be modeled directly after. This also implies that the light was taken from the German POWs that the French soldiers took into the bunker
Just finished the game! Poor lambert 😢 i threw the little bunny at him and that just confirmed it was him. I think soma and machine for pigs are probably my favourites, plus this one.
I watch all your Amnesia videos everyday when eating dinner! Even my wife, who knows nothing about games, likes it too. Bunker is my favourite games, closely followed by Dark Decent.
I liked Rebirth and Machine for pigs, I dig that Tasi actually talks and has her own personality. I think silent protagonists are immersion breaking. Anyone would react in these situations. That being said I like this one too.
Just a theory but maybe the bridge between the worlds former because of the great amount of suffering caused by the war, with so much pain and suffering going on the amount of, essentially, human essence being produced might've been enough to open up a bridge between the battlefield and the 'other world'

so I just saw speed runs for this game. and they are already under 2 minutes. its a wall clip when you first wake up into out of bounds, a very slight strafe move around a pillar, fall into a load zone, that loads you above a tunnel. you walk across, slip into a gap, walk through the rest of the tunnel, jump off the stairs onto a slight ledge for a speed boost, then you use a shovel like a broom stick and fly right up to the final tunnel and push the rocks away.

Good analysis, the game was a lot better and scarier than rebirth. I liked the silent protagonist and the return to more simple horror and puzzles. The added mechanics and crafting were great, i do wish it was a tad longer tho. I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to this one with him being taken prisoner and having to escape while the monster rips the german camp apart.

I just binged and experienced all the amnesia games and I find the world freaking fascinating. Very Lovecraftian with all the madness and other worlds…
Sometimes i feel like im the only one who likes rebirth, its not like the other games and its not my favorite but i enjoy what they did with it. Drawings instead of notes to guide you in the right direction was a fun change. It was a lot more story-driven which didnt bother me, i like stories, and it gave a lot of lore to the whole amnesia series. There are some critiques about it like Tasi talking the majority of the game which takes you out of it but it wasnt the worst thing in the world, plus i talk to myself all the time. I hate silence, so tasi and i related on filling the silence with talking to ourselves lol. The storyline was pretty cool too and i liked getting to make a choice at the end, i played both endings and both were interesting, though i like the fight scene when you take your baby and run away. Tldr; I love what it added to the series, the little blanks it filled, and the changes they made to the design of the game to spice up the series a bit. I had fun, though i think dark decent will always be my favorite
Great video. And I think the developers did an excellent job with this game. After Rebirth I was very sceptical. The relief when you see the freedom/outside (from the pillbox) is quickly set in contrast with the dangers of the battlefield when you are being shot at. Occasionaly you hear and feel the ground shake from artillery fire, which further highlights the isolation in the bunker. On the surface, there is action and hundreds of soldiers, while you are down there alone in the dark with that monster. Genius devs

Fun Fact: In Lambert's notes, he described the "spring water" Henri gave him as _"strangely sweet, cool, and crisp"._ This is actually because of the abnormally high calcium count in it. Y'know, from the dead bodies strewn all over the place :)
*_from the war :D_*
A scenario like this actually happened back in England too.

The Beast is Lambert. Part Ghoul and part Rat. The rats are Ghouls. You can see regular rat corpses in the game.
Interesting. Why do you think so?
Correct. Rats drank from crater water and accessed the bunker via the tunnels.
@@PetraP01 The reasoning why they are could be because the rats are huge, relatively bioluminescent with large glowing eyes and incredibly aggressive
Oh shit that's a great observation. Gonna have to look for that when I inevitably replay it.
@@Armyman-sy7mt also you can see the corpses of some normal rats and they are not the same
I think Lambert turned into The Beast instead of a Ghoul because the water was tainted by rats.
This is a good one
That also explains why the monster doesn't kill the rats
So far I understand, you are right. I'm not really educated with Amnesia series story but I have watched this game and read the notes. It would seem Lambert drank the water Henri gave him and this water gave him the strength to turn into this beast losing his sanity. However, if you throw the bunny at the end at him he will react to it meaning some of his humanity remains intact. How he turned into the beast with this water I am not sure, some say the water is infected with the rats and the dead. Others state the water was the same as those from the previous installments only a much older variant and it has connection to a outerworld being.
The Grunt has blades dug into their stubby arm those aren't natural claws

I've heard a really good theory about why Lambert's ghoul is so different than the ones in Rebirth.
Vitae is made when humans are in mental and physical pain.
A theory I heard is that the water is not only the same toxic water from Rebirth that makes ghouls, but it's also mixed with Vitae from soldiers who died near it in the war.
The mix of Vitae and the ghoul water made Lambert a very powerful ghoul, bigger then anything seen in Rebirth.

Just beat the game this morning, man I absolutely loved it. It’s short, there’s definitely more exploring and things I probably could have done but overall, amazing atmosphere, very grim story.

@@homeape. I think fronstbendy was referring to the pronunciation
Or the liquid was tainted with the on going war
Aside from that, I like what they did the best they can setting up.
the dialogue in rebirth sounded pretty grating im glad this game has a silent guy

@shawna8199 Yeah, in Rebirth Tasi can do the same, go ghoul, kill, and then go back

Only compound X makes light flicker because of his sensivity to light.
Ayy my boi, wassup!

That water was not tainted, unlike the stuff in the crater.
@@ulfskinn1458 are you sure?
"I can't see any connections to Justine and The Bunker"
The connection is that French people are insane.
Henri prob passed out again after the doc checked on him, and woke again when we take control
Its not unusual for some people to occasionally regain consciousness once in a while only to go under again, Henri probably was the same.
Ah, fair enough.
@@nicknamed1267 It happens in regular sleep too. If you wake up for a really short period of time then sleep again it's entirely possible you won't remember it at all, even if you talk during it. I've had short phonecalls that have gone this way, hah
@@bajscast true, I've had that happen lol
Decided to buy this tonight and man, amazing game. That monster is terrifying
Just finished it tonight. Enjoy bro, its a blast
the monster is lame af

@@GamingHarryYT hey you took the money to pay your rent, I totally get it, i can have my opinion on shady data mining companies disguised as VPNs AND the people that peddle them through gaming channels.
So the timeline looks like Dark Descent, Justine, Pigs, Bunker, and Rebirth. I honestly can't wait for another amnesia game just for the rich story.
I wonder as well the pit Henri falls in at the end of the game, will he become like Lambert too? But adversely touching the water in the amnesia universe doesn't seem to affect its host, only when ingested, does someone start turning.
The ghoul mutagen has to be ingested
Recently got into Amnesia stuff, your videos have been a great source of knowledge for these games
He snaps out of it permanently when the horror begins
Lambert not being mentioned in notes is just for plot ig. Cuz it really doesn’t make sense for him not to
i’m guessing they probably just assumed he died from the monster or whatever
Im replying 10 months later but the soldiers dont seem to like Lambert much, for whatever reason. Henri writes about being frustrated no one seems to really care at all hes most likely dead. No one writes about him like youve said, and I think they most likely just didnt notice he'd disappeared again.
Harry thank you so much man, I've been wanting a lore video on this game ever since it came out. You never let us down dude keep up the amazing work!
Ah ha! Then I blew the bridge up 😂
Well done explanation and break down! Subbed
I like how Harry gets the advertisement early on and doesn't stop through the video
You do such a good job exploring the lore of these games. keep up the good work 👍🏻
my favorite series on youtube so far, god knows how many times I've rewatched your videos😭 keep up the good work!
People didn't like Anastasie? What? She was awesome. Anyway, The Bunker is a fantastic installment, but it felt a little too short.
3-4 hour game for $25 ain’t too bad
And if you get the platinum, even more playtime
@@lewispooper3138 true. I just wanted a little more lol
Is it possible that Frictional Games is trying to setup this alien world and deity as the antagonist for whichever game is the last in the Amnesia series?
It already did with Rebirth.
I didn’t realize people didn’t like the protagonist in Rebirth. She’s legit my favorite of all tbh
imo she just talked too much, especially when i wanted to just do a nice simple quick baby check for my sanity, and she locks me in place waiting for me to finish dialogue to progress…
Me too, I liked her too much, I have her as my wallpaper since I fisnished that game till now. I feel alone af seeing people's reactions. ಥ_ಥ
@@ItsIto- made the game more immersive for me
I have a feeling that Henri being exposed to the vitae and all that has a descendant running around that will end up meeting the baby from Rebirth.
It's alright in most cases, but not very good when you're being hunted down by friend-turned-ghoul or Germans trying to kill you while moving stealthily
I wonder if that light is real though. Lemme check
Found out that ww1 wind-up flashlights are real but can't find pics of the one in the game or any models similar
You can still find them good for when you have no power.
@@xXNickPXx thanks for the info, man. I'll take a look at it
@@StormBlessed786 yup. Works wonders
I've noticed that if you wear the gas mask in the ruins while Toussaint is singing, you do not sway to his song nor see the shadows.
i kinda wanna know more about the other creatures in the tunnels. Im assuimg they were latin/roman worshippers of Tiana that became immortal ghouls.
I can't stop playing this game... this game made me an amnesia fan!
Just a theory but maybe the bridge between the worlds former because of the great amount of suffering caused by the war, with so much pain and suffering going on the amount of, essentially, human essence being produced might've been enough to open up a bridge between the battlefield and the 'other world'
GAMING HARRY YOU MISSED SOMETHING!! If you fall into the giant pit towards the end of the game where you can kill lambert, you get teleported somewhere and killed by the shadow from dark decent! Upvotes for visibility Please! ❤
so I just saw speed runs for this game.
and they are already under 2 minutes.
its a wall clip when you first wake up into out of bounds, a very slight strafe move around a pillar, fall into a load zone, that loads you above a tunnel. you walk across, slip into a gap, walk through the rest of the tunnel, jump off the stairs onto a slight ledge for a speed boost, then you use a shovel like a broom stick and fly right up to the final tunnel and push the rocks away.
I have a feeling we’re gonna get a continuation set in the German trenches
@shawna8199 Like you're a german interrogating henri and then you report that news to your higher ups and get forced to explore or something
@@martinrages or you go with a scouting party to explore the roman tunnels to see if they could have a tactical use. also what is the cannon ending? did henri kill the beast at the end or not?
I haven't even watched the video yet and I am already so hyped. Keep up the good work harry!
i like the pillbox your constantly alone in a bunker every one is dead well being hunted by a monster then you step in to the pillbox and you remember your in a massive world war its a good part
Imagine if that dirty water in which protagonist fell escaping bunker is the same as he gave to drink to Lambert. I guess we can expect German DLC.
Man this game is up there with the likes of Visage. It’s such a refreshing take on what a TRUE survival horror game is.
That's a sub from me. Very well constructed video. You answered every question or thought I had when playing this game for the first time.
So blessed to have Gaming Harry in my life

I love these videos. I cannot play games like this because my anxiety is too bad (I get chest pain if it’s out of control). However watching someone play them can let me still experience them. Doesn’t make sense but 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️

I just binged and experienced all the amnesia games and I find the world freaking fascinating. Very Lovecraftian with all the madness and other worlds…
It is a truly horrifying tale… playing as a Frenchman. It still haunts me to this day.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not being a bigot. I just hate the French is all.
This joke isn't funny kid
YESS..., Finally! Been watching content creators play the game and, of boy, I've been waiting for you to cover it. Thanks!
I love your atmospheric presentation and choice of games.😊🎉
Genius devs
