I have to give a hats off to the rebels. Fighting the empire was basically suicide especially without the Jedis. But it just goes to show how a little hope can help you overcome anything
Plot shields are a hell of a thing.
@@zephyr8072 Nice copout comment that doesn't actually require you to back up or reason your claim.
@@vipe650r Are you replying to someone else or did I find the one person on earth who's stupid enough to think that the designated good guys in Star Wars having plot shields is at all debatable?
@@zephyr8072 I will wait for an actual intelligent question if you'd wish to have a discussion.
On god zephyrs right
It's like chess, you have to take down the the king or in this case the Emperor, also known as the Senate
And Vader cause Vader would've been even worse for the galaxy then Palpatine.
@@mr.m4297 what's Vader going to do that the emperor didn't?
@@mr.m4297 Vader is like the queen. He loves moving around on the board
@@Zek3nator he didn't have enough common sense to stop this is why Palpatine was always reminding him to lay off and not kill everyone cant rule over a dead galaxy
@@youtubestayatyourrootsforfsake true Vader was sadistic but he lacked the long game vision Palpatine had and mostly because was encouraged by Pelagius to think of galaxy wide conquest. Not saying Vader couldnt do it just Vader was a little to emotional and killed people the emperor wiupdve tried to twist and control and if he couldnt each him squirm and hate his new servitude life like the training admiral forn the clone wars that hated the empire and even ran his mouth to the emperor after he tried to kill them all by flying the ship into a star or something and then Vader killed him and Palpatine wasn't happy. But then again you're also tight better to he killed quick by Vader then tormented by Palpatine.
Palpatine was not only a dark lord but was also very witty, he actually was a politician and had won over a lot of people cause he was pretty good at executing his plans (prequels reveal his road to success in politics)
Indeed. And then he became a completely incompetent dumbass after he ascended to power. The Galactic Civil War was his war to lose and he lost it.
Very true, which is the main reason I love the prequels. His rise to power is amazing to watch.
VestedUTuber what’s new, so many people rise in power as oppositions but they fail to deliver while serving at the office
@@madsam9403
To be fair, Palpatine didn't fail in the same way. Most people who rise to power but then fall quickly after did so because they bit off more than they can chew. Palpatine knew what he was getting into, knew he could have easily crushed the rebel alliance, and then when he literally had them right where he wanted them and could have easily wiped them out with a focused attack, he decided instead to showboat with his shiny new Death Star.
VestedUTuber also wasted time in trying to turn Luke into dark side instead of trusting Darth Vader to do the job
So uncivilized
Always nice to see you in the comment section :)
Master Kenobi
Hello there.
Kenobi....
Hello there
IMO, Palpatine was the only one who could actually control the galaxy. While the other Imperial are capable, they lack certain attributes. Thrawn is a poweful war strategist, but he isn’t a diplomat. Vader is... well, vader. And Tarkin lacks the sublety to carry certain situations, by placing too much pressure on fear, such when he did not gain the rebel base location from Leia. If the rebels killed Sheev, The Empire would inevetably crumble, due to lackluster or overblown leaders.
(Edit: I just remembered that Palpatine could have used the force, so even if Thrawn would pick up diplomacy, he would lack certain... skill set)
Kārlis Vilnītis I disagree about Thrawn not being a diplomat. Pretty sure he would’ve learned how to negotiate and be a politician under the Chiss. He only required Governor Pryce’s service because he needed to learn Imperial politics.
Other than that, I believe Thrawn would’ve been an excellent successor to Palpatine. In the areas he’s lacking, Thrawn could easily identify and pick experts he needed to serve as advisors. He learns pretty damn quick too.
Also, I believe Thrawn was adopted into one of the Chiss ruling families? I think politics would’ve been a requirement for him to learn anyway.
I agree that palpatine was certainly the best at controlling the galaxy, but I also think that Thrawn would have been a very competent leader.
@@gregorylumban-gaol3889 But would Thrawn want that? From what I pick up in canon that would have took him and his fleet to chiss space and let the galaxy deal with the mess.
Thrawn would most definitely rule the Empire in a better fashion than Palpatine.
I think Vader could have held a tight enough grip through pure, visceral, physical fear like he did over his subordinates in the Imperial fleet.
This confirms that palpatine has no interest in letting go of power going as far as to throw away his empire should he ever have died he saw himself as the sole ruler if he couldn’t have the galaxy nobody could
Hence why Operation Cinder because he knew what would happen if he died.
Elijah Watson it raises a few questions about his certainty of him being able to obtain immortality would this have taken effect if he died of natural causes?
Then why was the first order made if he could no it have that?
According to Disney's new Canon he wants Vader to overthrow and surpass him and praises him whenever he betrays him, accept when he choked him one time. The new Canon has a LOT of plot holes
BOB IGOR RUINED STAR WARS NOT JUST KATHLEEN especially with something like this operation cinder totally contradicts the whole Vader overthrowing palpatine bit especially because it was Vader who killed and betrayed palpatine sure Vader did die but there had to be a chain of command.
This is getting out of hand, now there are two of them

The Rebels Needed The *High Ground*
They had it in the form of Luke's communication with the dead Negotiator.... General Kenobi.
@@richardched6085 don’t forget Luke was also a master at it I mean that’s how he beat Vader
That's why legends did it right (Canon somewhat did) where even though the leader died along with his 2nd in command; the empire was still around. You will always have loyalists continue your cause even after you died. legends the empire remained a powerful force for another 40 years while in canon they changed into The Order.
John Smith If it weren’t for Operation Cinder, the Empire would’ve lasted even longer than they did.
Agree
Well first of all I wouldn't say the Empire remained a powerful force for another 40 years in legends. The Galactic Civil War lasted for around another 20 years. So at the latest after that the Imperial Remnant was not really a major power anymore, compared to the New Republic.
Also you do have these loyalist's remaining in the new canon. Not only did much of the Empire flee into the unknown regions to form the First Order, but there are also Imperial Warlords around in the known Galaxy. They are just to weak to do much against the New Republic. That's because Operation Cinder destroyed so much of the Empire.
Wastydest Here’s the thing though, the Imperial Remnant looked weak because that was what it was shown. What wasn’t shown, was the fleets and the manpower Thrawn had gathered or created in his Empire of the Hand. The Empire of the Hand was massive and it would require a large Navy and Army to keep control.
After all these years hidden from the galaxy, I am certain Thrawn and those under him would’ve built shipyards to create fleets. No way the Admonitor alone and several escort ships could keep the peace in the Empire of the Hand. So yes, the Empire was actually still powerful and could challenge the New Republic.
Operation Cinder makes me question the desperation of the war a bit. If one lone sniper had somehow killed Palpatine, would the Empire have collapsed just as it did?
To be honest, when I saw the title, I was like wow, I never knew killing the EMPEROR of the EMPIRE would be vital to the rebels winning. But, as usual, I learned a lot and this was a great vid.
Can you please make more content on the Old Republic? It’s such a rich era
Peter Parker What would be better, a video about Bastilla or the mandalorian war?
Doyle Lewis good question I say Mandalorian War then a bastilla video
Operation Cinder reminds me of the death of Alexander the Great. When asked who should rule his empire, Alexander on his deathbed said, “to the strongest.” So indignant to the idea of death and someone inheriting what he had built, Sidious would rather let the entire Galaxy die with him.
He only viewed the Sith as the strong
Only in STAR WARS, could a massive army of a Million be viewed as small. In our world, they would seen as threat and upcoming super power nation.
Imperial GUARD AND THE IMPERUIM OF MANKIND
Only in 40k could a army of a billion troops be seen as a slight nuisance. XD
To quote Count Dooku "There are too many" when describing 200 thousand Clone Troopers with a million more well on the way. So 1.2 Million constitutes a Galactic Grand Army lol.
The reason why it's like that is because the amount of troops needed to capture an entire planet even calculated irl would take millions of troops and megatons of equipment and logistics and we are a planet that's divided so it's a question of military strategy and math
@WaluigiShrek I thought it was the other way around as the Galactic Civil War was basically an Insurgency of small Rebel Cells uniting to fight the Empire.
The reason Palpatine lost was because the Empire dissolved the Senate, unknowingly killing him
“Not so fast” -JJ Abrams
Because he had UNLIMITED POWER the Rebellion needed to get rid of to seize power for themselves.
King Edward "Longshanks" I, Hammer of the Scots, Lord of Wales and King of England If that was true...wouldn’t he have the power to save himself?
He's the senate
@@jlf13766 Look up the Dark Empire Comics it's about the Reborn Emperor (it is Legends though)
Surely Palpatines successor would have been Darth Vader. In a reality where Palpatine died but Vader lived but was not redeemed as a jedi he would have become the new emperor. He is a figure who inspires terror probably much more so than Palpatine who hid his dark side nature from the public. He is also pretty close in power relatively speaking as no one could stand against him in a fight save for Palpatine
Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, and Grand Admiral Thrawn are cool. Palps controlled the Empire. Vader had Death Squadron and large elements of the Imperial Military. Thrawn had the Seventh Fleet ( Lets not forget the Empire of the Hand, execpt thats Legends). Those three held absolute power.
Edit: AWESOME CHARACTERS!
The empire: You'll never win-
*empire dies*
New republic: What was that?
The Confederacy of Independent Systems had significant (though not unlimited) resources and fairly robust leadership capable of replacing losses. They could only be defeated by seizing territory, choking off droid production.
The Galactic Empire had effectively infinite resources but a much weaker command structure, encouraging blind obedience over competency and building it entirely around one man. It could only be defeated by decapitation, causing it to fracture and collapse.
The First Order has a reasonably solidified leadership class (with the exception of the post Supreme Leader) and ideological ties that make it less vulnerable to the civil war that engulfed the Empire, but it commands far fewer resources and men than either of its predecessors. Unlike them, it can be defeated by attrition - spread out too far across the galaxy, losing their expensive Stormtroopers faster than they can be replaced, bleeding out until the entire thing collapses.
"To kill the body, you need to chop of its head"
Palpatine
Pretty obvious that palps was the the key to the empire thriving.
Before the empire even began he put out an order to kill just about everything force sensitive not named sheev palpatine.
Palpatine being the most powerful thing in the empire is the reason he needed to die. Too bad for the rebels, exactly zero of them could do it.
This feels like book learning, thanks for the study sessions Lore Master!!!
So that’s why Hoth was such a devastating defeat. I always wondered that..... Great video.
To be honest the mid rim offensive has to be the most interesting thing in legends
I love all of your videos man, i learned so many things and im continuing to learm deep lore
Anakin Skywalker helped The Rebels kill Palpatine
Yes he did. He was the Chosen One after all.
Great in-depth analysis!
Y'know...the Rebels weren't wrong about assassinating Palpatine. The Empire did splinter into multiple factions vying for power in both Legends and Canon.
It’s not Star Wars it happens all the time
Getting a strong vietnam war feeling from this, atleast concerning a conventional campaign enjoying some initial success, but then being annihilated by superior conventional forces. But isn't the huge counter-attack kind of proof of how high the approval of the empire is? I'm asking this because the huge number of troops fighting this large scale incursion from the rebels would lead to mass desertion otherwise.
They should make a movie about that big campaign in a war movie style that be dope
And then they turned into the first order and destroyed the republic and took over again with a new emperor pulled out of the galaxy's add making all of this and the entire original trilogy meaningless . Thanks Disney!
Definitely blame disney.
It's a story of good vs evil. If they lived happily ever after then there wouldn't be a new trilogy would there. And obviously there's a back story to the rise of the first order same as with Palapine and Darth Vader in the original.
@@supashep1 if you think what can happen after the original trilogy is a dichotomy between happily ever after and reset button then you have less imagination than abrams
@@rainquarm Again, Star Wars has always been a battle between the light side and the dark side, empire vs rebels, siths vs jedis regardless of if you wanna call the new trilogy a reset. If Abrams had did anything different from that he would've been crucified even more by fans like you.
@@supashep1 I most certainly do want to call it a reset . There's now a storm trooper employing sith led empire in control of everything opposed only by a plucky gang of rebels led by a teenage force using prodigy trained by the last remaining Jedi. They could do it with the dark side as an insurgent insidious force . They could have kept the republic and made it a conventional war . There could be a more cosmic backlash by the dark side as it's last user is killed . There is so much more they could have done besides literally having everything put back exactly the way it was
If at endor Vader survived then he would probably take charge and the empire would stay somewhat stable. Vader had good leadership so he could command the best strategists and diplomats to be the public face of the empire, like how gallius rax was the strategist behind Rae sloane, who was the public face of the empire up to the battle of jakku
By "survived" do you mean letting Luke die? Not sure Vader would continue the Empire if he sided with his son.
I meant if Vader went against his son and escaped before the explosion
@@adamd4702 But how would Vader even lead if Palpatine is alive? If not for Vader's alturism, he would never have been able to kill (an enraged) Palpatine.
Great video and glad you explained.
This is easily the best Star Wars Lore channel. Keep it up!
i thought its vital to kill palpatine, because he could create force storms
What did everyone in the galaxy think of the destruction of the system that starkiller base destroyed
The thumbnail makes the Emperor look like he's randomly saying "5:36" 😂
The answer was extremely obvious but the video was awesome as always!!
Love your videos. You should do more old republic videos, bc there so much to talk about
This whole thing is insane. The rebels would have been nothing but a fly in the ointment to such a juggernaut. Sure a couple well placed torpedoes and over confidence were valuable to the rebels but overall the clashes are silly.
I mean he was the most powerful force user out there, literally the ultimate child of the best of the sith, and capable of manipulating pretty much anything he wants. He would be the largest threat possible.
Hmm first he can sense you, you need something that the force cannot read, a droid that would have be like Cleaning bot that has a hidden bomb powerful enough to weaken him or kill him instantly second you need at least a backup plan in case it fails.
They need to make a show about the mid-rim offensive. So many battles/characters to explore.
So in the rebel alliance who knew palpatine was actually a sith lord?
Hilarious, you just described the beginning of the dark ages but in the lore of Star Wars its described as a good thing because a republic replaces an empire :D
Please do make a video on how rebels got their bases.
Could you please do a detailed video about Operation: Cinder?
Operation Cinder ia basically classing from the halo games

The UA-cam channel, Star Wars Theory, has a trilogy on that specific topic on his “What if” playlist
Uhh... maybe it was because Sidious was the leader of the Empire? Just a wild guess...
nobody can kill the senate
Vader killed him
@@BlyUehara37 well shit
You underestimate my power!
@@BlyUehara37 anakin killed him
Simple: Palpatine had done everything to center the power of the Empire solely within the office of the emperor, i.e. himself. He controlled the banks, the armies, every aspect of the empire ultimately centered around him... *and no one else.* Palpatine is the foundation of the empire: Remove him, and the empire falls to anarchy specifically because *the empire was not built to exist without him.*
See these kind of stories would make a fun and interesting game

Could you make more videos related to the rebel alliance? They are surprisingly interesting.
The rebel terrorists got totally served by my Imperial commandos
Zero views 40 comments makes sense youtube
It takes several seconds, almost a minute sometimes, to load comments on my computer, so several people who click with the video showing *No views* could've commented by the time you get your comments loaded. A *"view"* is calculated as part of UA-cam's algorithm, which might be counted as 30 seconds of watch time, for example, and then calculated after, up to a minute later.
As long as you're watching a channel with over 100k subs, you'll get funky results until the video is no longer "new".

Great video!
It was only blind luck that the Rebels won at Endor, let alone that the teddy bears managed to help the ground team beat the Imperials so that Han could blow up the shield generator, even if Palpatine died by Vader. And even a year later, they were lucky that Gallius Rax didn't blow up Jakku together with rest of the Empire and most of the Alliance.
Palpatine be dunking on all assassination attempts.
Hey, a Sith Lord needs to end his destiny just like me, when I, and Palpy used to be best buddies.
4:15 - _The Chaos within the empire erupted just as they predicted it would_
And, logically, this is what Episode 7 "The Force Awakens" was _suppose_ to be about. Instead we got the First Order, with a leader that just popped out of no were, an a planetary size death star, which no one noticed, just so we can have a poorly digested regurgitation of the original trilogy!
It wasn't Last Jedi that killed Star Wars. For me, it was TFA. I went into TJL expecting it to be horrible, and I was right.

What would’ve helped to make your self invisible to the force?
This is why I never understood the logic of Yoda & Obi Wan. They wanted Luke not to kill the Emperor, but rather to kill Vader. Even if Luke did kill Vader, the Emperor would remain alive & seek a new apprentice (I'd have loved it if Leia turned to the Dark Side of the Force, & eventually become s Sith Lord).
stan broniszewski I would not, I like Leia as Leia...
Cool Video
What if Palpatine was not force sensitive? Would he have gotten as far as he did?
No way in hell.
BECAUSE HE FREAKING CONTROLLED THE EMPIRE
+The Lore Master Wouldn’t Vader automatically assume the throne if Palpatine perished?
Maybe by default, but it's not clear that the Moffs had the same loyalty and/or fear to/of Vader as they did with Palpatine. If Vader had been off hunting Rebels at the time, the other governors might have taken the opportunity to consolidate forces and make a play for the throne.
How does palpatines order to make the empire destroy itself after his death work with him transferring himself into his clones and continuing his rule? As he had his most trusted advisor who knew about the clones ordered to be stand in emperor until he returned in his new clone body.
