As I recall, Palpatine later found out and disagreed with Tarkin's decision to blow up Alderaan without his approval. So in a way, it really wasn't supposed to happen, it was just on the whims of a single Moff, and Alderaan died for nothing
Yeah he did and so did Vader. It was a good thing Tarkin died shortly after otherwise Palpatine probably would have done it himself. He was already getting wary of Tarkin's lust for power and Alderaan's destruction actually brought tons more people into the rebellion
Actually, this would be a huge turning point in the Galactic war as the Rebellion was about to capitalize on Alderon's destruction. Able to gain way more sympathy and show just how destructive the Empire could be. Many saw it as the Empire using a nuke to kill a few flies. Many of the Empires Allies were still on the planet when it got destroyed. It was huge blow that costed them majorly in the long run as after the Death Star was destroyed, it become a rally cry and showed that the Empire could be fought.
Thanks for that knowledge I didn't even know that I thought that the emperor support this but he actually didn't It was just one moff that did.
I wish Tarkin had survived Yavin so he could see just what a colossal mistake destroying Alderaan was. That people didn’t retreat in fear, that his biggest example of making an example completely and utterly backfired. That people would never take his cruelty and evil lying down.
Palpatine being angry with him for going behind his back and the political fallout is just the cherry on top.
Palpatine had decided to get rid of Tarkin after the Battle of Scarif. After Yavin,Vader likly would have been ordered to arrest him
The Organas really went through it all in just 2 days. Sleep deprivation, stress, massive explosions.

Bail Organa used to be a Mediator between Mon Mothma the Idealist, Saw Guerrera the Radicalist and Luthen Rael the Pragmatist in the Rebel Alliance.
Saw was going insane from his lifetime of fighting and being so bullheaded he’d never listen to reason.
Mon was determined to restore a democratic government to a galaxy that proved too large to govern and was too willing to concede executive power out of fear of being another Palpatine, this led to rot exacerbated by cowards like Hamato Xiono. She kept the Alliance’s head down knowing they weren’t ready yet for open warfare but at the cost of disillusioning impatient people like Saw and Ezra.
Luthen was more pragmatic than Saw and realistic than Mon’s idealism but he could dial it back because he could always recognize that he needed to do things he didn’t want to keep the Alliance safe. Whereas Saw would go rogue to do his own thing and Mon would say to lay low, Luthen would recognize Saw would go too far while Mon wouldn’t be willing to do enough.
Bail was indeed a great navigator of the trio.

Yeah but the Empire and by extension Tarkin made the short sighted decision to destroy a planet to which many of the officers in the Empire called home
Tarkin in his ambition managed to kick-start the first domino that would destroy the empire he had long spent his time building. He should be lucky he died at the death star because even if he survived, Palpatine was going to make sure he didn't live beyond that for that decision was not his to make.
Not just that. Alderaan was a respected world and several planets were angered by it. Even Palpatine was shocked by Alderaan’s destruction. Sure he gave Tarkin permission to blow up a planet but not even he expected Alderaan to be said planet

Yep and it’s so needed, we need a lottttt done to convey the gravity of Alderaan’s destruction. In Star Wars, we’re given really nothing to make us care about that planet. It’s just like damn that’s crazy
With the addition of this, and that scene in the Kenobi series where hail talks to leia on the balcony, we feel a bit more. I want more of this. Short stories of people all over Alderaan, and survivors seeking vengeance. A lot needs to be done to make us feel
It was always so tragic to me that such an awesome character died such a sad death. Organa deserved better 😢
Vader knew Tarkin was insane, but did nothing to stop him.
Leia knew he was insane but was helpless.
Sidious knew, but didn't care enough to stop him.
Better Sidious realize too late and he alredy dead before punishiment

If Obi-wan felt the people of Alderan crying out in terror, so did the emperor. If the force is created by all living things, the Tarkin might have weakened the force by a few million people.

Let that sink in.

Funny thing about this is that this was never meant to happen, Palpatine didn’t even know about it and was pissed when he found out what happened to Alderaan, he probably gave Tarkin permission to use the weapon but not on a well known populated planet like Alderaan.
Nonsense. Tarkin would not dare do such a thing without the Emperor's consent. Maybe Palpatine did not give him personal consent to destroy Alderaan specifically, but he allowed him to destroy planets in general.
This is my favorite Star Wars channel. Thank you for the amazing videos!
Glad you enjoy them!
That got me emotional. Also, being French, I'll tell you this: upon losing France Hitler gave order to raze Paris. Every bridge, monument, etc, had tons of TNT stripped to it. But Paris was saved from destruction by... the German officer in charge of it. Local Moff, if you will... Dietrich Von Choltitz. (although some historians say he exaggerated his heroism)
Finally more lore!
Oh my little baby Boi budgie
Alderaan and the Tarkin Doctrine were the biggest oofs the Empire ever committed, and both of them were Tarkin's fault.
The worst part is, Palpatine did NOT want Alderaan destroyed. Tarkin's days were numbered even if he had successfully destroyed the rebel base with the Death Star.
@@muhdfauzibmohdrais3844 Nonsense. Tarkin would not dare do such a thing without the Emperor's consent. Maybe Palpatine did not give him personal consent to destroy Alderaan specifically, but he allowed him to destroy planets in general.
Palpatine allowed this.
@@janmos5178 Yeah that's why Palpatine was super pissed that Tarkin went BEHIND HIS BACK and destroyed Alderaan without any authorization.
@@devastater97 It does not change the fact. Hitler's signature on numerous orders regarding the Holocaust is also absent. And yet, as the head of the Third Reich, he gets hit for it, and rightly so. And since people at Lucasfilm don't know how totalitarian or authoritarian states operate, it's even worse.
If Oranga somehow survived, the Rebellion could have been further united, and perhaps the war could have ended earlier with his negotiation skills and such. At least he had just as capable allies and friends like Mon Mothma.
I imagine Bail was like - "That's no mooooggaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"
Oh my little baby Boi budgie smugglers
Bail Organa should have immediately ordered evacuation of the entire Alderaan population the moment the Death Star appeared.
How though? After the Death Star appearing over Alderaan they only had around five minutes. There's no way the Alderaanian spaceport staff could power up the ships, load all the people on board, and escape out of the atmosphere and into hyperspace before the Death Star super lazer was fired
The only chance they would've had is if Bail Organa and the other Rebel leaders got word of the Death Star DAYS before and managed to send that to Breha and the Alderaanian authorities. And even then you could probably only manage to evacuate the cities and surrounding towns and villages. Any rural or remote settlements would still have such little chance of making it out in time
So you’re saying Bail Organa should’ve bailed?
Imagine if bail organa had survived anything is possible in Disney Star Wars
Alderaan had a population of 2 billion people. They would have had no opportunity to even start evacuations when the Death Star arrived. Even if they had some advanced notice that it was coming, they would have barely even begun to get started. There was literally nothing he and Breha could have done
How? Even if it took a while to ready the laser, the Death Star alone has tractor beams, TIE Fighters and I’m pretty sure that it will be too much of a panic
Another nice upload!

A tragic end to great politician, his loving wife, and their people, but Tarkin would soon, ironically, meet a similar fate.
Imagine being on the planet and seeing how mountains and buildings are breaking apart with people crying out in panic. It's just such a horrible thing to think about, it breaks my heart.
Now that I'm thinking it,how long do you think Leia was captured on the death star? The movie makes it look like she was there for mere hours but i know time goes differently on space
After all the Organas had a strange way of caring for her adopted daughter. Just a few years before they send her teenage daughter on a mission to smuggle war material under the disguise of a humanitarian mission (a mission during which said teenage daughter murdered a Stormtropper in cold blood who thought he had to defend her from rebel attackers).
you should read the Leia canon book, Leia wanted to be part of the rebellion, Bail and his wife both wanted Leia as far from the rebels as possible.. but you know when a Skywalker wants to do smt he/she will do it
i always thought if Alderaan wasn't destroyed the Emperor would have won and continued ruling. The force itself was said to react to the sudden extinguish of a entire planet and turn on Palpatine.
yea the empire definitely took it too far destroying an entire planet. All Palpatine had to do was use the death star as an intimidation tool, but Tarkin got too power hungry and a little psycho lol
They damned themselves by being so cruel and callous towards their own citizens. Basically framing a mass slaughter(Jedi Temple) as a good thing. Really there was going to be a day where the Empire would shot its own foot off. Destroying Alderann via the Deathstar was just ludicrorus levels of cruelty.

@@ryancoupland8425 He may not have wanted it but he was the idiot who allowed it to happen. A mean but wise ruler would have clearly delineated to Tarkin what he was allowed to do. And Operation Cinder in the current canon. I'm sorry but Palpatine cannot be defended. Even the ghosts of the Sith trashed him in the comics. For what else truth but also from the whole were not satisfied. Being a master of power and intrigue does not immediately make a good administrator.
Why didn’t Vader stop Tarkin? Would assume consistent contact with the Emperor might mean they were heading to Alderaan for the demonstration? Unless Vader did tell the Emperor that it was meant to be just a “scratch” not a destruction. Any in universe explanations like this besides Palps not knowing??
Palpatine told Vader that Tarkin was to be under his command, so he had no choice but to follow Tarkins order. besides, he had no reason to stop The destruction of Alderaan personally

I’m just about in tears after watching this.
Since you are reluctant to provide us with the location of the Rebel base, I have chosen to test this station’s destructive power on your home planet of Alderaan.
Oh no! I am getting scared!!! will the "I know" line someday overthrow the "I have a bad feeling" line?
I sometimes wonder how different things would be if Bail just wasn’t on Alderaan when it was destroyed.
Over the next few months after the destruction of Alderaan and the destruction of the Death Star, which followed mere days later, the galaxy fell into chaos. The civil war fully ablaze, brother fighting against brother. At least, that´s how it was for the Outer Rim. For the Core Worlds, protected by the mighty Imperial Fleet, next to nothing changed. Only the news report even indicated anything was wrong.
The Peace held for three years. Until that fateful day Emperor Palpatine would meet his end and the second Death Star exploded. For the People of Coruscant, the week began with the Home Fleet being sent to Endor, to crush the rebellion in one final strike. It ended not with the news of the Emperor´s death. It ended when thousands of ships, from Corvettes to Battlecruisers, all bearing the Organa family crest, jumped out of hyperspace. The Orbital Defence Command tried to reach them, to no avail. After five minutes and fifty-three seconds, the exact time it took for the Death Star to shatter Alderaan, the Flagship of the Fleet, an old Venator Star Destroyer, opened the channels. The Message was short. Only two words. "For Alderaan". After that, the ships opened fire. The planetary shields were raised too late, and what was left of the generators was destroyed quickly. The war had found Coruscant. Trillions of voices cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced

Alderaan had WMDs.
If we ever discover time travel we need to give alderman some nukes
I'm gonna be honest, I had no idea there were Star Wars manga!
How Bail Organa reacted to the Death Star pulling up to Alderaan: "PALPATINE, YOU SON OF A B--"
@@donpula6349 Nah, I'd still blame Palpatine ... because he signed off on the whole Death Star project. The buck stopped on his desk, man.
@@donpula6349 Nonsense. Tarkin would not dare do such a thing without the Emperor's consent. Maybe Palpatine did not give him personal consent to destroy Alderaan specifically, but he allowed him to destroy planets in general.
@@donpula6349 If the Emperor did not set any conditions for Tarkin to use the Death Star, then the emperor is a fool and no amount of mastery of power or instigation can change that. And Palpatine fully deserved his defeat. Moreover, by building the Second Death Star, Palpatine himself confirmed the opinion of the people that he supported Tarkin's politics. A brilliant intriguer, a terrible ruler.
Lucas himself said that to some extent he modeled the Empire on the Third Reich. Are fans of the Empire and the Sith really naive to think that in the conditions of the authoritative and totalitarian structures of the Sith, Tarkin would make the suicidal decision of this calibey without the certainty of the Emperor's approval? Until 1945, none of Hitler's acolytes made such important decisions without his knowledge. I'm sorry, but this has absolutely no logic and disqualifies Palpatine, regardless of Tarkin, and as a politician. Not a schemer, because that's all he really was, a Sith and a schemer, but he was never material for a great ruler. Because he would know how to regulate terror like Augustus in Rome.
@@janmos5178 This is something that really bothers me about the people who side with the Galactic Empire and the Sith: they forget that they're siding with Space NAZIS -- and even now, close to a century after their defeat, the Nazis are still the closest we've ever come in real life to the demon hordes of Hell.

I thought Alderaan blew up only like .5 second after the laser touched it in ANH? Has that scene been retconned to not be in real time?
Apparently lol. Here's the full text from the book of that part if you want to estimate how long they had:
[“My love, they wouldn’t,” she said, even as she knew they would. Bail smoothed his hands over hers and touched their foreheads together. “At least we will be together.” “No!” She refused to believe it. How could such evil exist? “There… There must be time. The spaceport is too far, but we could reach our private shuttle. We…We could evacuate as many as possible! There must be something, anything, that we can-” The sound was incredible. They turned toward it in awe and dread, a deadening of air that pulled all noise from around them before a tremendous blast like lightning rent the air. Bail yanked her into his arms, squeezing her as light blinded them, a ring of white that grew from the horizon, spreading fast, bringing trees, beasts, and rocks with it. “She made it out,” Breha whispered, trembling hands balled in his cloak, her disbelieving eyes watching as the planet itself burst with a thousand bright, terrible geysers. “I would know if she was gone, Bail.” “She lives.” He kissed her forehead, leaving his lips there as the palace shook under them and the beams holding the balcony aloft screamed and gave. The attendants inside their apartments gave a wail of fright, and the castle sagged with no ground left beneath it. Her bones hurt. It felt like they were being shaken apart. “She lives,” Bail said once more. Breha closed her eyes. “I know.” The mountains rose up, folding toward them, swallowing them whole. She felt her husband’s warmth, his breath on her neck, then the scent of ash and smoke, and in the next moment, oblivion.”]
