I can't imagine what it must have been like to be a cadet in training to be approached by vader and actually have him tell you that you did something right.
"So long story short, I'm going to need you to transfer over to that other academy on Corellia by Tuesday." "No." "...You want to run that by me one more time?"
It's possible that Vader actually did it because everything Baylo was saying was 100% true and Vader, whose own balls had been cut off long ago, couldn't stand to be in the same room with someone who actually had the guts to stand up to Palpatine where Vader himself did not.

Baylo's mistake was trying to pull that move on Vader, one of the best pilots in the galaxy. Had anybody else been on that bridge, I doubt they'd have noticed what was wrong. This goes to show the differences between Vader and Palpatine, too. Vader's not a nice guy - he is harsh, but practical. Palpatine's plan was completely excessive, evil for the sake of being evil; Vader simply saw a man who had committed a treasonous act, and executed him for that act.
Even more impressive is how close he got to killing both Vader and Palpatine. If Vader hadn't intervened on those coordinates, or didn't have the knowledge required to understand their significance, the commandant would have just ended the driving force of the new empire right then and there. No wonder Palpatine wanted to keep the guy around, he was ballsy and efficient.

He had guts, I give him that. Ans yet, it was the start for Rae Sloane, one of the best imperials we would ever see and like. All this is thanks to her.
She would later reflect on the things Baylo taught her during the battle of Endor, especially the importance of keeping a calm appearance while on the bridge of a ship during a chaotic battle
She did learn well from him. You really should make a video about her. And if this is of interest, a friend of mine works on a fanfiction story where she's the main character, and I have something familiar planned.
This shows the difference in cruelty between Vader and Sidious, Vader will simply kill you, Sidious will turn you and everything you loved into the monsters you were fighting. Just like Anakin.
between the two Sidious is the greater threat cause of exactly that. turn everyone thing and you in to mosters. better to die a hero then live long enough to become the villain.
Hmm... Am I stretching to think that Vader's tendency to just outright kill those he deems failures/threats could, in a twisted way, be the spark of light within him trying to prevent suffering?
@@DJchilcott The thing with Vader is that he never really wanted to be dark side. He just never really saw another choice. He didn't believe he could beat Palpatine.
What's scary about Palpatine is he knows your deepest fears. Having Baylo watch as all he built and cherished gone twisted would torment him to his very core until his demise. It's like watching your own children go astray. Vader's swift execution of him is actually a mercy that Palpatine didn't want to give him. Palpatine, being the devil of Star Wars, was denied.
That strangely is another thing that gives credence to what Padme said about there still being good in Anakin. Darth Vader was once Anakin Skywalker, a war hero. Loyal to the Republic above all else. I think that Baylo's bravery to stand up for what *he* believes in reminds Vader of himself as a young Jedi, eager to protect the Republic which was why (in my opinion) Vader chose to show him swift mercy because it is preferable to the ultimate torment Baylo would be facing if he was Sidious' victim and because Vader hates everything that reminds him of Anakin Skywalker.
Palpatine: In the end, you will always kneel. Baylo: Not to men like you. Palpatine: There are no men like me. Baylo: There are always men like you. Palpatine: Haha.....good....goo- (Vader kills Baylo) Palpatine: WHAT THE HELL MAN?!?! I COULD'VE EATEN THAT!
I actually saw someone pull that off at a fast food job I worked at once. I hated that job. She cussed out the manager to his face and he wanted to promote her, but she went into the Navy as a nurse instead.
All my respects goes to the Imperial Officer Instructor Baylo for having to stood face to face with the emperor and Vader of their wicked deeds to the Imperial navy...
Bit of an offtop- when it comes to Star Wars-, but i love this story, and i cry every time i tell it to someone, and it is in line with first comment of this section: Met a guy once- friend of a pal, of a pal... etc.We were basically drinking at some dude`s house, back at my university days, and there is this one guy, who didn`t. Me being shitfaced by the time i spotted him, of course started to pester him "what? Ya won`t drink with me?"- and so on, jokingly telling him, that not drinking is first sign of a person, who would sell his mates to the police etc. Just to get him going. One of my pals actually dragged me gently to the side and told me, that this guy won`t touch booze, because both of his parents were alcoholic. That he is eldest brother of four siblings, and that he fought his whole life to be clean, and how he worked hard even, when he was in highschool, just to make money, to give them food, books, clothes. Yeah, there were grandparents, who helped a lot, but they also hadtheir limits, and he also wanted to pay them back, and relief some of their worries: for example, his youngest sister had this school trip, and someone had to pay money for that- for her to have at least few normal moments in her school life... So he took additional shifts, put together enough, sent her somewhere, with school, so she could have friends... And you have to remember, that this was a house, where parents stole from children, just to buy booze- so any gift from grandparents, friends of family, neighbours, teachers- toys, games, clothes, books... All of that had to be protected by a guy, who was 16 at the time, and had to be everywhere at once... And what is more he was 5, when first sibling arrived- which means he was in this Hell for 5 FUCKING YEARS COMPLETELY ALONE. You are just dropped at most shitty hell hole in vicinity, and you have to deal with it, on your own- there is no guide, text bubbles telling you what to do. You work your shit out for yourself. And at he age of 7 he became de facto A FATHER to his siblings... Imagine having to grow up at the age of 7... I don`t even remember it well, and he already had to pass "speed course"...(Some other guy later told me that those siblings of his came out to be people as well, not some drunken assholes, and that they had undying love for him, for all he have done for them, and what he taught them. I do hope so- guy was half grey on the head at the age of 21, i hope they paid him back. He already had fiancee, who told me, that there is no way in hell, she`d want to be only his girlfriend, because he is special) But to the point-(i hope you do understand i`ll paraphrase, as i don`t really remember every word) so i heard the story, got teary eyed, went back to apologise- guy said, i didn`t do anything wrong really, and that it is fine. And me, with my fucking drunken "tact" said something like: - I can`t believe it, really. Where did you got all that strength from? In your place i`d be probably drug dealing pimp, or a killer... - Oh, i have lots to thank my parents for. - Like what? - They taught me, how NOT to treat others... I can`t even tell this story out loud, as my throat is closed completely every time i try- where did this soul was made, and what did they use to create it, because clearly sociophatic asshole, like me, had to be made in different place, with some trash, nobody else wanted. Angel fell off, or what? This guy was more of a man, at the age of 5, then i`ll ever be, no matter how long i`ll live So Antasma- life did kick this guy time and time again, and he stood up everytime, like it was nothing. He was thrown into the pile of shit, and came out clean and shiny. Hero? Not a ounce of a doubt. And put it into the context of some assholes crying, that they cannot use gender neutral toilet, or some shit... Yeah, whenever i want to bitch, i have this story play in the back of my head
Despite the fact Vader was in more pain the officer had bigger balls than Vader he’s a normal freakin human! Not a Sith Lord who’s a force user he honestly had the biggest balls to stand up to two Sith Lords that could easily have killed him
Alex Arriaga well he’s ignorant to sidious’s power and doesn’t know how much pain he can inflict. Remember they still see him as a regular chancellor/dictator
Stud true the chances that he didn’t know about the powers of Vader and Sidious is 100% but he also had little regard for his life to begin with. I find both Sideous and Vader fascinating In that the emperor is all about slowly breaking his victims and slow hellish torture Vader is more efficient and would rather end the threat outright
Hiekkalinna you have a good point if the Vader comics are anything to go by they’re really nailing the whole inner pain over outward pain that legends pushed
A movie drawing on the Old Republic setting would just be fantastic. Include a Revan storyline (from SWKOTOR, not the online game, couldn't give a toss about that) for maximum points.
There was Palpatine reborn in clone bodies, The Thrawn campaigns, Luke turning to the dark side, reborn palpatine getting killed by his own force storm on the Eclipse, the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion, and Disney just throws all that out in favour of purple-haired admirals and Mary Poppins Leia...
@Michaelle Green Does Rouge One make up for TLJ and middle-school principals as admirals? It does not. Also it would have been a change of tone, but what an amazing opportunity lost with the Yvuzang Vong wars. SO MUCH potential there. I mean, force-immune invaders from outside the galaxy? Rebels and the Imperial Remnant forced to work together to defeat the alien threat? The capture and partial terraforming of Coruscant? The fact that the massive military buildup during the Imperial era was not just to keep rebellious planets in line, but was also in part due to Palpatine's sensing the invasion coming in the not-too distant future, adding a whole new dimension to his character. Everything we've seen previously in Star wars has been a galactic civilization fighting itself basically. An intergalactic conflict would up the sale of the whole universe by an entire Kardashav level... All gone so now we can have Rey the Invincible parts I II and III, plus a few gimmicks from the previous trilogies coated in Disney sugar to make normies go "Hey look- it's Luke! I remember Luke! Psssfft i am your father Psssft... Hey- anyone want to go buy plastic lightsabers?

In Palpatine's mind : " I am gonna make him suffer till he begs , gonna destroy everything he worked for , gonna..." *Vader force snaps his neck* Palpatine : Wtf dude
The greatest irony in all of this, is the fact that blind obedience (from the cadet) would have resulted in Palpatine's death, had vader not intervened. And yet Palpatine demanded blind obedience from Vader, in spite of this. The force is intricate.
@midgetydeath ... thats the irony. Like I said. Her blind obedience would have resulted in everyone's death.. even in spite of his mastery. Lord Vader checked after her work only because he was sensitive to this most subtle deception taking place. And even in that, he was sensitive to what the emperor was blind to. Part of him also knew that the defector would be dangerous to be left alive. The emperor's casual indulgence in the suffering of other's comes off to Vader as a weakness. And rightfully so. The seeds of Anakin's 2nd major betrayal continued to grow with each time the emperor failed to understand the force like he could. Again, the force is complicated. And the emperor could never hope to match Anakin in sheer contemplation of, and competence of, the force.
I beg to differ. The cadet did use blind obedience, but Vader detected something was off. She obeyed her superior officer, then she obeyed Vader, who was superior to Baylo. In the book, Vader deduces Palpatine ordered Vader the menial task to watch over the bridge because Palpatine knew what was going on, but was putting Vader through another test. It's in the last chapter of the book _Lords of the Sith_ by Paul S. Kemp (2015), or at least the 2016 version which includes the short story "Orientation," which was originally published in _Star Wars Insider Magazine_ #157.
The force had nothing to do with the stupidity of human interactions when people have disproportionate power over others without meaningful recourse for those subject to that power. The irony you pointed out is appreciated J W. In my opinion, it is the cynicism, arrogance and unwillingness to share power over an entire Galaxy that ultimately kills Palpatine and his dream of a militarized unification of the galaxy systems.
Also, I agree with you J W, the cadet illustrated blind obedience when she should have been confident enough to trust her own calculations and humble enough to consult with others before using hyperspatial navigation equations without double or triple checking them first.
But I also agree that Palpatine could not approach the visceral mastery and contemplation of the force that Anakin possesed having been mentored by two of the greatest Jedi in their modern times.
what palpatine would had done is let the man stay on and be tormented in living hell to force him to watch as the navy he knew of get corroupted and turned right before his eyes and had nothing to do it.
Tom Val Not sure what you mean by “trust in the light.” I’m just saying that it’s better Baylo die before Sidious could comprise everything he stood for.
jason sr torres I didn’t even think of it like that. Personally I think it’s just Vader’s mindset to kill threats as soon as you know about them versus Sidious’ more, well, insidious strategy of co-opting your enemies but who knows? Even at his worse, Vader would have more compassion than his master ever would and the idea of killing as mercy is something he’d come to.
If this were a real life emperor or king, he would have been made an example of, partially because he was a high ranking officer. The guy first would have been arrested, then beaten or tortured, then there would have been a show trial. Then he would have been tortured again until he gave a confession, then he would have been subjected to a gruesome public execution, to serve as a warning to possible future traitors.
Palpatine: No? NO?! What´s up with this "No" BS all of a sudden? First this angry six foot peppershaker says "No" when I give him a shiny new starship, now this wrinkly old Muggel tries to do that too? That´s it, you´re getting lightninged! And I swear to the force, if anyone else tries to pull that "No" crap, say for example some whiny blond Jedi boy when I try to pull him to the dark side I´m gonna throw myself down an elevator shaft! Darth Vader (whispers): Lord Vader will remember that...
The one flaw in his plan was talking too much. The "Your emperor" comment alerted Vader, which caused Vader to dig deeper into the matter. Had he never spoken to Vader, it would have went unnoticed and his plan of Defiance would have succeeded...
Maybe. Or maybe the danger sense of one of this two powerful force-users would have kicked in. Or Rae would have worked over the things a second time on her own and would have done something AFTER he left (she seems the woman to do so).
@@anonymousshawn9996 And who are you to know to 100 percent that it was not some kind ob warning that triggered Vader to had a deeper look into that? Palps (Vader much less) sensed things which were far away, and a imminent threat to their life right under their nose...
Marc Bartuschka it's all speculation honestly. IMO, the force isn't some mystical bs, it's scientific fact (M×A2=F). "I can feel your anger,"-Palpatine in ROTJ, shows the force ability of psychology and behavioral assessment. All of these Force powers have some basis in real scientific fact, albeit, a little exaggerated. So using that logic, Vader hearing that comment paid extra attention to the details of that incident, which in turn, alerted him to the psychological distress of Sloan, which in turn, caused the calculation to be double-checked. But that's just my opinion. I guess "from a certain point of view,"-Obiwan in ANH, it can be viewed as the force that alerted Vader after all haha.
@@anonymousshawn9996 Yeah, that is true. I am of course aware that even powerful force user could be tricked and ambushed. The power and effect seems even to differ for the same person from situation to situation. I am just not sure that this plan would have worked in ANY case even if the guy had hold his tongue...

I feel you, Vader the pampered dickhead got babysat by his boyfriend Palpatine, saw a bit of action alongside replaceable troops, and was born magic, meanwhile the guy raised and trained leaders just to watch them die on a regular basis, watched a good society turn in on itself, was absorbed by an organization full of panzy crybaby sithlords that kill everything because poor little vadey killed his girlfriend and sucked so much at fighting he never heard of the high ground, and was now training soldiers for those crybaby sithlords.
The fact that the old "tough as death" dude was about to be spared for the Emperor's amusement is something. Vader, well... does what Vader does. It's like a sitcom. Palpatine: "Vader!" Vader: "Oops. I must've... snapped!" *laugh track*
I was honestly waiting for the commandant's little "change" in coordinates to become a test; like "don't always blindly trust what your superiors tell you." Politics in Star Wars was always interesting to me.
For the average person, the Empire means security and safety, you just have to trade a few "minor" freedoms for it.
Palpatine's plan was completely excessive, evil for the sake of being evil; Vader simply saw a man who had committed a treasonous act, and executed him for that act.
the whole point was to assassinate Vader, one ship is meaningless in the grand scheme of things

Even more impressive is how close he got to killing both Vader and Palpatine. If Vader hadn't intervened on those coordinates, or didn't have the knowledge required to understand their significance, the commandant would have just ended the driving force of the new empire right then and there. Ive always felt that Vader could be ruthless simply to get the job done whereas Palpatine actually enjoyed hurting people
@@Qaeta Good point. Luke probably sensed this lack of true devotion to the dark side and was able to exploit it to redeem Vader.

Bit of an offtop- when it comes to Star Wars-, but i love this story, and i cry every time i tell it to someone, and it is in line with first comment of this section:
Met a guy once- friend of a pal, of a pal... etc.We were basically drinking at some dude`s house, back at my university days, and there is this one guy, who didn`t. He already had fiancee, who told me, that there is no way in hell, she`d want to be only his girlfriend, because he is special)
But to the point-(i hope you do understand i`ll paraphrase, as i don`t really remember every word) so i heard the story, got teary eyed, went back to apologise- guy said, i didn`t do anything wrong really, and that it is fine. And me, with my fucking drunken "tact" said something like:
- I can`t believe it, really.
This guy was more of a man, at the age of 5, then i`ll ever be, no matter how long i`ll live
So Antasma- life did kick this guy time and time again, and he stood up everytime, like it was nothing.
There are three things all wise men fear; the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the rage of a gentle man
Ah i see what you did there, fellow person of culture

Stud true the chances that he didn’t know about the powers of Vader and Sidious is 100% but he also had little regard for his life to begin with.

The greatest irony in all of this, is the fact that blind obedience (from the cadet) would have resulted in Palpatine's death, had vader not intervened.
And yet Palpatine demanded blind obedience from Vader, in spite of this.
The force is intricate.
@midgetydeath
... thats the irony.
I love how Palpatine was amused by the officer's rant to the point that Vader killing him irritated Palpatine.
What Palpatine would've done to him is the difference between an Emperor and a Dark Lord of the Sith. Great as always, thank you...
what palpatine would had done is let the man stay on and be tormented in living hell to force him to watch as the navy he knew of get corroupted and turned right before his eyes and had nothing to do it.

Vader. there is still lifht in him. Maybe he killed him out of compation. mixed with envy. if he cant use him then no one would
jason sr torres I didn’t even think of it like that.

The one flaw in his plan was talking too much. The "Your emperor" comment alerted Vader, which caused Vader to dig deeper into the matter. Had he never spoken to Vader, it would have went unnoticed and his plan of Defiance would have succeeded...

What? Were those ball jokes too much for your eyeBALLS?
I was honestly waiting for the commandant's little "change" in coordinates to become a test; like "don't always blindly trust what your superiors tell you." Or I thought he would show up to the meeting and reveal that his teachings were not just for the cadets, but for Vader's command skills, too. Oh well.
This little video and story alone, is better than last jedi and force awakens
Sick of this shit from people like you, it's boring and annoying.

@@morgulstower5839 I love TFA and TLJ, but, I think you're very wrong. Star Wars was actually quite ahead of its time, just because a lot of the heroes are white males, doesn't mean that it's sexist and racist or whetever you think it is. The two sci fi giants Star Wars and Star Trek have ways been ahead of their time, with females and people of colour as good strong characters and in positions of power.
Damn this was very impactful, I wished this would be in a MOVIE
Don't hold your breath. The Star Wars movies now are about selling toys, not producing impactful stories.
Damn that officer has so much nerves...
Can't wait to become an old grumpy person who gives no shits aswell!
1:26 It ticked me off when lord Vader thought the old man didn't really know pain just because he never experienced as much pain that Vader did. Just because the old man's pain was nothing like Vader's, does not mean the old man's pain did not count .
Yeah, Vader had a classic case of "my case is worse, so yours doesn't count"
Dude, are those balls of steel getting heavy?
It's why he has back pain :p
5 in a row
No wonder they keep making multiple death stars
Vader: I sense a great disturbance in the force......
Palpy: Yeah, it's the pair that Baylo keeps between his legs
Palpatine: I will transfer you on corelia
Baylo: No
Palpatine: Dew it!
Baylo: No
Palpatine: What kind of force ability is that?
Vader: Can I learn this power?
Baylo: Not from a sith
Baylo: but as an old man with no disabilities
This is why I love stories like this. Even as a kid, I always wondered why would anyone want to join The Empire? Clearly their intentions are not to protect, but to enslave. Surely many people within The Empire realized that fact. So I love the fact that Baylo realized how corrupt not just the navy, but the senate, and The Republic turned Empire had become. Politics in Star Wars was always interesting to me.
For the average person, the Empire means security and safety, you just have to trade a few "minor" freedoms for it. In return, the Empire wipes out pirates, standardizes everything making life easier and stops raid on worlds. It's easy to see why people join. Most people would never see Palpatine or Vader or any of the atrocities they commit.
Sounds a lot like a country that is known for their "freedom"
@@shadowscall7758 Yup, the same is happening right now. Out of fear of Covid, many of us were willing to trade in our freedom for security. Worse, willing to trade in the freedom of others, the "unvaccinated", in order to feel safe. Now Phizar has admitted that their vaccine hasn't even been tested on whether or not it reduces the chance of covid spread, and STILL our governments want to have more power to "combat" the virus. Strange, isn't it?
@@eyesforthewise Not just that one, but pretty much any of the developed countries.
@@shadowscall7758 they would atleast know something was going on though definitely at-least after alderan was destroyed. But yeah it usually wouldn’t be that bad if you were Human or from one of the Core and Colony Worlds.

Same man, same, but without the sub.
I love the difference between Vader and Palpatine. Vader gets mad? Your throat caves in and you don’t see the light of day again. Palpatine gets mad? Everything you love is destroyed, and everything you know is turned upside down, and then you’re left in the middle of it. Shows how straightforward and impatient Vader is, he wants the immediate reward, or punishment in this case. Palpatine? He’s willing to sit it out and allow the world to have its way with you, because he doesn’t see punishment as a tool, he sees it as his own enjoyment. He’s a sadist.
In short? Vader doesn't respect you enough to devote the time needed for anything other than breaking your neck.
Palpatine just got bored with the bureaucracy of running an empire. He enjoyed these little challenges. He can kill anything he wants so its not a particularly entertaining thing to do.
I love it how at the end as a middle finger to Baylo they rename the ship to the Obedience
This man’s ship is too small to accommodate those massive balls of dura-steel
How do you know how big his balls are? You seen them? Felt them? Um... Taste them?

Palpatine was right, a true Sith never kills unless he stands to profit from it. To repurpose such a person to their service would have been a true victory.
KaiserAfini anger rage there the path to the service of the dark side this does not apply only to force sensitives even those haven’t unlocked the force can feel the pull palpatine a victory would have turning baylo to his service fanning his anger and hatred turning him into a true imperial navy man plus he was impressed by his will to kill everyone on the ship
@@GnosisZX Exactly, its a core tenet of Darth Bane's Sith Order: never let passing emotion or instant gratification get in the way of objectivity, you control the dark side, not the other way around.
MonkeySocks his resolve was what impressed palatine though, you must also realise that he is very manipulative and most of his loyal servants used to be his enemies.
MonkeySocks but yes I do agree that’s what Vader would have thought but that’s why he was nothing more than a warrior while palpatine was a strategist
