Nettie - thanks for the comment. Spending money on care and seeing the value is a challenge for some individuals and families.
In home care should be the answer but they need social activities as well to stay active.
Yes, social activities and maintaining connections with others are very important to staying healthy.
I already have Medicare/ Medicaid and am considered disabled.
I don't need toileting, laundry or bathing help but I don't drive, can't and need assistance with heavy work like vacuuming, mopping, etc. and no longer drive. I have mobity, balance problems and use a power wheelchair or walker. Will Medicaid, Medicare cover assisted living for me?
Tracie - if you are considered disabled then I would contact your Medicaid case manager as there should be assistance with the types of activities you are listing which are called IADLs - instrumental activities of daily living. But this does differ by state.
@Pamela D Wilson my Care Coordinator put in an evaluation request so they are supposed to be calling me as of November 16th. I figured I would give them until the end of the month or so with the holiday?
Over the phone they kept trying to discourage me saying because I could wipe myself and wash my own body dated and think I would qualify. I don't think they want me to qualify but I'm not gonna give up
@@traciebecker6669 - They may be trying to give you some "hints" in a round about way. What that means to me is that you must say that you need a little help with activities of daily living i.e. going to the bathroom and showering. So if you agree that you can use and accept a little help with these 2 ADLS then you can get all the help you need. Sometimes one has to understand what the healthcare system requires to qualify you for the help you need. Give this a little bit of thought.
