So far my husband and I are very blessed. I’m 71 (a mini cougar) my husband is 64. We are pretty healthy right now and remodeled our home keeping in mind that we want to age in place. My husband built our shower with no step in and very large in case either of us needs a wheelchair down the road. I’m pretty new to your channel and appreciate all of you advice and insight. Thank you guys for all the information you share.
I am a retired RN, with 35 years experience working in skilled nursing facilities, assisted living and memory care facilities. I have worked with many families dealing with this very hard decision. When we sold our house and moved, we had a list of things we wanted for our new house to age in place, and we were very lucky to find a house that has all of the things on our list. When looking for a assisted living/memory care, I would recommend fully researching several facilities as they are all very different, and be sure to meet with the administrator and nursing/care director before making a decision.
I understand that most of us want to retire in our own home. The thing that bothers me about this is that this puts the full burden of care on the family. If Medicare covered "SOME" of the costs that would be very helpful.

Yes as we age we don’t want be to a burden to anyone. It’s a tough challenge for all to find the right balance.
You need to discuss CCRCs.
My mom is at home alone at 93. Even though she has her pets and someone in daily but she is alone a lot .
We Asians -americans do let our older parents live with one of the children … the one who is not so busy anymore working …
That is such a great philosophy that we all can learn from. We hope to end up close to at least one of our children as we age.
