Logee's Longhouse Greenhouse Tour - Ep 171
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 тра 2020
- The Longhouse is the only greenhouse at Logee's that is open for the public, but since I had never seen it before, I wanted to go through with Byron Martin, the co-owner of Logee's Greenhouses, to see what he had on display.

Thus far my favorite 'tours' are with Logee's. Byron is great on camera, great with the interview, and so casually knowledgeable about the plants he cares for that it's easy to understand and absorb what he's speaking.
True, he's so knowledgeable & a good communicator. I 1st saw him on a Martha Stewart show. He made fairly regular appearances - and looks about the same today as he did back then, which must've been over 10 years ago.
What a great place. So glad she did a tour there. I keep wanting to go.
"Casually knowledgeable" - I'm stealing that. I totally agree with it.
Byron is just a gem. We really worked him that day because he was giving us tours non-stop and he was such a trooper. More to come soon....
@@summerrayneoakes Did you say there's more to come? Omg!
Brilliant comment 🙏🏼🌱
That guys voice was so calming. I liked listening to him talk.
Many folks I've interviewed have such calm, soothing voices. The King of Smooth Voices, Chad Husby, will be making an appearance again on the channel soon.
@@summerrayneoakes ☺️
it is
I love how Byron said which plants were good for houseplants.
He knows our audience is mainly growers of houseplants!
You can see the passion in his eyes, and also in the vines.
Oh yea he walked right past that gorgeous anthurium to look at coffee plants. He's a vine guy for sure
@@cinbrandt he's actually more into begonia. But he does love his vines
@@bryghian He barely talked about begonia in the begonia episode 🤣
@@cinbrandt They said they would make a whole video only about begonias 🤭
“That’s for you” HE GAVE YOU THE FLOWER
Also the citrus on a past episode, that guy is genuinely generous, has a big big heart and appreciates Summer a lot ♡
I drove from Portland Oregon to Philly, Penn to pick up my daughter, she won't fly, in !980's. We headed to Vermont to pick up a school friend going to college, and made a stop at Logees…..it was so special. Brought lots of begonia's home.
I just usually prep a cup of coffee and binge watch your videos and that's all that I ever need to stay peaceful.
I was just grinning watching this. Nothing better than watching plant enthusiasts geek out with a bunch of amazing plants.
This guy... He knows so much.I could listen to him forever.
Possibly my favorite of logee's greenhouse tours! I feel like Byron was really enthousiast and opened up to you like never before. Extremely touching to see him like that! A very peaceful and very very interesting and informational tour! Those backstories make the plants even more interesting, if that's even possible hahahaha
I think we really warmed him up after a couple days of filming....By the end he was very tired, so we're so grateful he took the time. Glad you feel as if he responded well.
My girlfriend and I used to take ‘I need to smell soil’ trips to Logees in late winter. We always left with plants.
Summer, you're cameraman and quality is absolutely perfect! It makes it so pleasant to watch
I'm so glad you're enjoying it and Sander will be thankful of your compliments.
Agree 😍😍
Yes indeed he makes this channel easy on the eyes ☺️
Loved this tour.... so interesting and I love hearing back stories
I really love this tour. Most of the plants they have are from South East Asia. I definitely recognize most of the plants. They are abundant and naturally growing here in the Philippines. 😍😍
The last flower was Ilang-ilang, right? Or kinda looks like it haha
Same family as ylang ylang
@@lloydandbehold yes. I think.
@@lloydandbehold Artabotrys hexapetalus. From the same family as ylang-ylang (Cananga odorata) but a totally different plant. In the Philippines, it has been recorded from the province of Rizal.
Very pleased that people can see the plants that they recognized on their home turf!
My newest addiction, I've ordered from them 4 times in the past 13 months. The plants arrived well packaged and healthy. I'm happy to say all 16 are still alive and thriving.
I remember the first time I went to Logee's, walking down those stairs in to the greenhouse is like walking into a fairytale and candy store all rolled in one. I need more plants.
I liked his stories more than the plants... and I loved his plants.
This guy is amazing. I could listen to him for hours.
What a joy to watch! I could watch Byron for hours on end & not get bored, thank you Summer for another great episode ❤️
You're welcome! More of Byron to come!
I love watching the Logee videos as well. He is so intelligent and just seems like someone's cool uncle.
Just ordered some Lipstick plants from Logee's. Their packing was amazing and they arrived in perfect shape and very healthy.
He looks so friendly!!!
He's such a gem. Nice and calm.
Many plants that he mentioned are popular here in Indonesia! And the best part is he look so interested to that plants, while we people here begin to forget that kind of plants. Appreciate him so much! Good job sir!
This is fascinating, i like this guy and his perspective on plants and the history of his family's company.
This is the first time ive heard someone talk about the 70's houseplant boom by experience. The recent years must've been pretty surreal for places like Logee's.
Thanks for the tour, all three of you, stay safe.
I live on the east coast and Logee’s is always my first place to go to order rare, tropical, and exotic plants. Amazing plants!
I loved this video! I could just listen to him talk for hours. So interesting!
Byron I could listen to him all day long talk about plants and give their long Latin name! Anyone who's been lucky enough to work and those greenhouses beside him are some of the luckiest plant people in the world. Plants have always fascinated me all my life... And now that I'm 71 I'm trying to share things that I've learned through the years with other people in the plant community. I'm warning about plants that I never knew existed and my problem is I love to propagate plants and then what do I do with all these plants I've brought into the world I don't have enough space for all of them. So last fall I put all my cuttings into two hanging baskets of my pothos syngonium and philodendron. They have made beautiful hanging baskets there their own little jungle. It's a great idea people and I like growing plants that trail as the understory. For a couple years on my gardenia trees I have five but I'm not sure if some of them made it through the winter they may have dried out too much... I had strawberry begonias growing. But I think I forgot to water and I did them in and maybe the two gardenias I had them growing in. I do videos and post them trying to share my knowledge. You do a great job Summer.... keep up the great work you are another person that's so full of knowledge I love listening to you rattle off the Latin names. I have a hard time just remembering the regular common name
Will look forward to the begonia video very much.🙂
You very beautiful
love the peaceful athmosphere in this greenhouse
That blessed man is living my dream!
Also I love circus peanuts! Takes me straight back to my childhood!!
💚💚💚
Bummed that this was not a "part 1". I want more of Byron!
This is a Part 1 :)
@@summerrayneoakes Woohoo! Although this was a fairly long video, it felt like just 15-20 minutes.
These 2 are the calmest expert vibe. Very enjoyable and informative.
This is my favorite plant tour so far.. Byron's voice is so soothing.. You can easily feel his passion and love for his plants with the way he talk and how his face lights up each time he stops and talks casually about every plants.. Its very inspiring
What a wonderful expert -honest charming guided tour! Cool guy!
I love the Logee videos. Byron is an excellent speaker and I could listen to him all day long :)/
As a beekeeper I love the plants with unique flowers that have triggers or hinges that must be activated by the bee. Honey bees aren't as strong as bumblebees so they wouldn't have the weight to open the trigger of some flowers. Often though once a flower has been opened a few times its trigger opens easier. We have some flowers that when a bee pushes the trigger the flower slaps the bee either on the back or head with a pollen stamp. I'll see the returning bees with a perfect rectangular stamp on her back and know that particular flower is in bloom.
I wish we could have done a beekeeping video. It wasn't the right weather for it though. Too cold when we were filming. He was very excited for that though!
Such an awesome greenhouse! 😍 I’ve been there a few times and every time I notice something new. I loved hearing Byron’s stories for the older plants.
Lovely to watch! I am from South Africa and this is such a treat listening/watching a person with so much passion and knowledge of plants!
What a cool privilege to hear and enjoy.
Daaaamnnn.. i could literally get lost in this cozy euphoric greenhouse and won’t mind.. ❤️
What a dream! I would love to have a greenhouse like that someday, and to find people I can talk to about flowers the way Summer and Byron did.
What an absolutely lovely man!
Byron's memory! 👨🎓
I love Byron. Love hearing him speak plants. Thank you cameraman for the close ups of Byron. 😂
Absolutely, this man has a very subtle voice and clear articulation when he explains as well.
I could watch this for hours! *_*
great tours and interviews. love the moments when each person just opens up and talks about their passions and experiences.
Amazing 😍. Beautiful Tour of!;
Logees Longhouse Greenhouse. 💚. (Catchy Name)👍🏼. This Greenhouse is Stunning! I Learned lots! I wish I lived In Connecticut. Maybe I’ll Pass By On One Of My Travel’s ! Thank You Cameraman For Making It Feel Like I Was There! Perfect 👌🏼.
Thank you Sumer. 🤗🌱🤗.
The flower he gave her has such a lovely fragrance and is called Manoranjidham in Tamil. We have a belief that if u think of any fruit and then smell the flower you can feel that particular fragrance.
I love seeing these older plants! The Monstera and Pink Princess grabbed my attention and it never wavered. What an amazing green house and fascinating tour guide. Thanks for making this content.
I have the feeling I watched that one before. The "circus peanuts" stuck to my mind for sure. I love your tours at Logees so so much.
That was Enid at NSE tropicals talking about circus peanuts ahah
@@alex0589 I was trying to remember where I had heard that before, thank you!
@@alex0589It's true that that exact smell was mentioned in the NSE video aswell, BUT I am sure I wated THIS video here before. The situation was quite different too.
Great video. He has such a passion and he’s so calming to listen to. I just realized he’s missing a pointer finger. My dad was missing his pointer finger too. Crazy.
Where you live ? You very beautiful
Wowo 100 years and counting ...amazing.
Real passion for plants
Those yellow flowers😻
Beautiful video, so calming. This guy is so knowledgeable and passionate, i love watching you two talk about plants, even if some of it is way over my head lol!
We'll try not to make it over one's head next time!
Just gives me something to strive for 🥰🥰❤️🌿 I can only hope to be as knowledgeable as you two some day!!!
Capturing the history of Logee's along with Byron's knowledge of the plants is priceless. Thank you from those of us that are unable to tour the greenhouses.
I love this tour !
This is definitely one of my fave tours so far! Such great chemistry between the two of you! And Byron's such a powerhouse of knowledge and charisma!
Omg, all the jasmine!! My favorite smell!!!!
Dear Summer...thank you for sharing such a wonderful place.
The cute fragant Sampaguita is our national flower here in the Philippines.😘
the last plant they talked about w/c they missed to name is actually an ylang ylang plant, also from the Philippines
I love the passion and knowledge he has!!
Bryon: “Hippie back to land movement”. I liked that.
I think you have one of my most favourite voices to listen too on UA-cam, its very soothing
Every time I have a hard day i come back to this video, Byron and Summer's voices are so calming, i could listen to them for hours chatting about these wonderful plants
I hope there is someone who will carry on this man’s knowledge. So incredible.
Listening to Byron speak, I am reminded of Ray Romano, but not as nasal and whiny. 😊 What a soothing voice!
Everytime i see a bougainvillea i remember when i trimmed the huge one in my house compound and it fell on me.
I was scratched and cut soo much because its a spiny tree
Noni i call it the death strawberry 😅
Watched both parents when I was a kid fall into our Bougainvillea on separate occasions. I was convinced until I was 6 that it _ate_ people and wouldn't go near it.
@@LaviniaDeMortalium Loool. Some people feel the same for black berry brambles 😅
Ya bougainvilleas are just a spiny hell covered by pretty coloured leaves ( their flowers are small. And white)
@@LaviniaDeMortalium thats truly a hilarious story!! :) :)
I do love a walk through a greenhouse...All the plants are favorites, I like the beauty of each.
I was waiting for him to say begonias! 😂. I dunno why but whenever he says it my heart says "hihi".
Glass houses like this are a joy to see. A fascinating tour, thank you.
This was an awesome tour, I love that greenhouse
His energy is healing and loving. So much so I can feel it through the TV screen. Not many people around these days that still emit this kind of energy. I always say, some of the best people are plant people. True salt of the earth in human form.
I can’t wait to go back 😍 one of my favorite places
I've been to Logee's once so far and plan to go back when things open up. It's a wonderland. When I was there they had an orchid cactus (epiphyllum) with a gigantic, bright red blossom. I'd never seen one before and it was stunning. I also loved the bougainvilleas and bought one. It's been touch and go for me. It's never been consistently happy, but I'm experimenting to improve things. It has had moments of glorious blossoming, but mostly not at all. I think it's a food thing, which I'm getting better at doing. Never had a pest problem with it, or the baby I made.
I absolutely loved this whole tour. Imagine working in your own little botanical gardens. I have a wish list from Logees. Such a magical place. Thank you Summer.
This was great! I've seen your Logee's tours before but I think now this one has become my favorite. Byron seemed more enthusiastic than I remember him in past videos. lol . Fun! Thanks Summer xoxo
I really like these greenhouse tours
Jasminum Sambac, the national flower of the Philippines, otherwise known here as SAMPAGUITA... Love the smell of it... Catholics used to offer their flowers at the altar...
This was so wonderful to see. You're the perfect interviewer for these greenhouse & grower visits as you're genuinely enthusiastic, have a pleasant personality, ask smart questions & make good comments. You really know a lot about plants yourself. I'm wondering if you just learned due to curiosity & an interest in house plants, or if you may have taken courses or even pursued a degree in horticulture, & if so, where?
I live just over the line from Logee's, in MA, & have wanted to go peruse those greenhouses for years, but have not made the trek yet. Maybe this year. I guess now that's the only greenhouse open to the public. Still could spend over an hour there. I really enjoyed this, especially after wanting to see it for myself for so many years.
I have long been getting newsletters from Logee's, & often go to their site to see what they have available for sale. Their prices are a bit high, but plant prices have gone up everywhere these days, even for common house & garden plants. Their stock is exceptional, & I have enjoyed the videos at their website. Think I'll check & see if they have any new ones.
Hey Cheryl, really hope they open up soon so you can go see them firsthand. Really pleasant. Per your other questions (thanks for asking). I tried to address all those answers in this video here: ua-cam.com/video/L6MUrA7E8h0/v-deo.html
@@summerrayneoakes What a treat that will be, to drive down to actually see Logee's, & that famous 100+ year old lemon tree, especially after having everything but grocery shopping deemed verboten, for weeks upon weeks!
TY for the link. Will check it out.
I am so fortunate to live within a half hour of Logee's! One of my favorite places. ❤️
In Philippines that’s our National flower called Sampaguita....I came from Philippines too your vlog makes me stress free,,,❤️
Very well made video, very soothing
I enjoyed this episode so much. What a treat! Thank you Summer!
I have been buying plants from Logee for about 15 years. They send very healthy plants. This video reflects quality and love that goes into.
That Albo Monstera opened this video with a BANG!
Thank you for the tour Summer! It's always a privilege and a pleasure to hang out for a while with people who are as passionate about plants as I am! Oh and I love circus peanuts candy!
I used to like Circus peanuts candy...And now I don't know how I did! ha. Glad you enjoyed Edward. More coming from Logee's
What a Romantic greenhouse… relaxing and inspiring 🙏🏼 🍋
Loved the tour. Wish I could get back there again to visit. Back in the early 1970s after I had my driver's license and started collecting plants, nearly every city had at least one old "glass house", including the small town where I grew up in central Wisconsin. Sadly, they are nearly all gone now. Mostly likely not energy efficient and too costly to repair. BTW, I love circus peanuts and still buy them 🙂 Seems like Logees does not have the large variety of begonias that it once had 30 -40 years ago when I used to mail order from a paper catalog.
The African Gardenia I bought from them smells EXACTLY like easter lily. It's quite nice and does indeed bloom quite often. Watering has been tricky though.
This tour was like a fairy tale, at last I prefer this greater variety of flowering plants and the more elegant style of the owner and the cute greenhouse, it has less of an "industry of plants" vibe. Amazing experience for a plant and perfume lover, oh my. When did you do this tour? Thank you for your episodes, dear Summer.
I have an interview tomorrow ...and here i am watching the green house tour ...... i dnt regret at alll...... thanx summer.......
Begonias, also the Rex, are starting to come back here in Europe.
If I had a nursery, I would grow lots of them.
They’ll probably be the new Insta hype and they’re great to collect.
Also, Aroids are great, but they get boring after a while.
He really really loves what he does! Loved the tour
I love listening to him.
This tour is phenomenal! Beautiful plants with the most interesting blooms!
Wow I know that green flower tree . My grandpa planted it in our garden Vietnam. The scent is amazing. I think we call it the princess flower tree . It has huge trunk which grows direct. It is our tallest tree. This brings back wonderful childhood memories ❤️
Love how excited Summer was about the structure of the flower at the end of video. Genuine plant nerd.
I am in love with this man’s soul
I grew up near this place... never knew the history... amazing story!
Waooo ! Increíble muchas de esas plantas crecían y todavía crecen ! El en patio de mi abuela en República Dominicana 🇩🇴 😍😍😍lastima que no muchas personas conocen la importancia de ellas 🙏🙏 una bendición
what a beautiful green house.. so lush.. and they really do look after their plants.. you can see that.. beautiful.
