  • An earlier tour of Longwood Garden's Conservatory strategically skipped their newly designed orchid house-but don't worry-we circled back with orchid grower, Greg Griffis, for a proper tour of the house and the myriad greenhouses that house their larger orchid collection-some of which are from the early 1900s.

      Awesome tarp doors! They remind me of the Star Wars doors - they sound similar to some of the doors in KotOR (@32:45).
      I Would love to see a 30ft Sobralia! (@44:10)
      Looking forward to Orchids being adapted/selected to epiphytically grow on every plant/surface in Longwood! :D

The varieties that were shown were absolutely gorgeous and seeing the passion in his eyes with Longwood releasing their own hybrids. Summer, you are one of a kind.     I've become obsessed with orchids and I love growing them. Such an interesting challenge. I was already thinking I needed to take a trip to Longwood but now I MUST GO ASAP. Thanks for this vid. ETA: I love this guy! His knowledge and enthusiasm is fantastic. I could listen to him tell me about orchids for HOURS.

    As someone who's killed so many orchids, I'm always in awe of people who can grow a collection of them. They're such fascinating plants. Also, it kind of makes me feel better that even Longwood has to have a specialist take care of them haha.

    I carried a single giant white cattleya orchid flower as my wedding bouquet. It was the largest I had ever seen. It brought back great memories of my wedding day 50 years ago. Thank you for the tour! 💚

    i love the enthusiam of plant people, Greg was super entertaining to listen to. honestly i've spent so long looking over orchids as a group, though i do favor epidendrum (me internally yelling when you guys were standing next to one lmao), i really didn't know the visual variety they have, like i know orchids are a huge family but still.

    Such a great in depth overview, you packed so much in 49 minutes lol! Though I believe the orchid at 14:14 is in the vanda genus not phalaenopsis. Longwood is now of my must visit list! 😍

Andy Phelps is the main authority collector, propagator and vendor of orchid species in North America. Please look into Andy's background and visit his greenhouses. You and We will be unlighted.

    Hi, I really enjoyed watching this video. I have a question about viruses. Some people say burn the plant because the virus will spread to your other plants, but it seems that you don't share that opinion. I have a virused but most beautiful Cattleya, what do you recommend?

    Greg Griffis is extremely knowledgeable! I had the pleasure of having a personal tour by him back around 2017 at Longwood. He had great ideas and grew orchids well going forward. He also does great talks on orchids! He is definitely an asset to Longwood and the orchid community as a whole! Glad to see this feature.

    Loved this tour! Orchids are so diverse and colorful! Enjoyed the behind the scenes part of the video, too. The whole process from back room to display area and some of the cultural difficulties are important to know.

    This is paradise for me! If I could turn back time, go back to being 12, when I got my first division and attached it to a tree in my garden, I would take a totally different career park and dedicated my life to doing something like this! Wow! I now grow my orchids in pots in S'ern Spain with many many challenges to overcome! Everything about growing orchids is special!     Hi Summer Rayne, THANK YOU SO MUCH for dedicating an entire video the my favorite plant!! Orchids are my first love plant and I enjoy caring for them and watching them grow and bloom, (if I'm lucky). They have taught me the art of being patient and being rewarded with their extremely beautiful blooms.

    12:55 Dendrochilum are from parts of Malaysia, the Phillipines and Kalimantan, cool growing orchids that flower in cloud forests, very few survive the tropical lowlands

    I love, love orchids. And I was sooo disappointed in the photography of this video. Never focused on the yellow dancing lady, didn't get solid looks at some of the orchids in the greenhouses. I love ur work. I hope u will receive this as constructive criticism.
