Hey there, I discovered your vids quite recently and I can say they've been by far the most clear and cohesive when it comes to beginners AND advanced tutorials for fb ads.
I really appreciate this tutorial! You answered so many important questions as they popped into my mind and highlighted some important issues, like needing 100 customers in the same country etc to create a lookalike audience. Thank you for the clear and speedy tutorial!!
After you've learnt how to create Facebook lookalike audiences in this video, I'd recommending checking out this video: ua-cam.com/video/_gt8quAdrSg/v-deo.html for my latest Facebook lookalike audience strategy.
It's amazing how much things changed in a year span. I have uploThanks for sharing this. I've managed to upload a source list of 50 and it worked just fine. Thanks for sharing!
This was so helpful! I’ve been struggling with my target audience and was having a hard time finding information on FB ads that was relevant to my business. Thank you so much for this!
Great video, Ben. Thanks for sharing these insights. I've spent a few years getting to grips with FB Ads and this will really help me refine my audiences and drive my CPC down. Looking forward to trying this out and also veiwing more of your content.
Thank you so much, very informational. I don't have a huge audience yet but through this video I was able to create several look a like audiences. THANK YOU!!!
Hi Ben, fantastic video as always! I've found your videos immensely helpful over the past year as I find my feet in the digital marketing world, so thank you for that. A very strange time to get started, this year has been pretty turbulent and unpredictable (for obvious reasons!). I had a question about minimum source customer list size, and then you answered it perfectly as I was typing it out...so I'll just leave this comment as is haha. Thanks again Ben!
Some absolute gold at 32:30 I was searching everywhere for this. Of course you've covered it. the Ngolo Kante of FB content for youtube, you're everywhere lmao
Awesome video Ben, thank you. 2 quick questions: 1. When initially creating an audience based on customers who have purchased, we'll start with a list of say 100 customers. As we run ads, our customer list will grow - does the source customer list continue to grow as well and further refine the lookalike audience or will we need to go back and update the source list down the road? 2. Similar question when creating an audience based on FB/IG interactions - if we decide to use those that interacted with us in the last 180 days, is that 180 days from the day the audience is created or is it always 180 days in the past on a rolling, go-forward basis? (ie. previous 180 from today, then 180 days from next week, next month, etc) Thanks!!!
I'd like to thank you for offering value first, then pitching at the end. I'm certainly interested in learning from you, would love to hire you if I had budget. Regardless. Your presentation was so unfurnished with SMARMY, hyper emotional tugs, like the one I sat through yesterday, I'm happy to subscribe.
Hi Ben! Loved this vide, very informative, thank you. I'm now creating my add after using a lookalike audience from my sales. Which video do you recommend I watch regarding how to actually make the ad once ive made the audience? Thanks!
thanks for your video. About the value column, does Facebook recognize values in different currencies to USD ?, example: I have a list with my clients and the amount of money they have spent in COP.
Amazing content as always! I have been generating sales for my team by simply following your videos. A quick question. Do you recommend creating a lookalike audience based on pixels directly instead of custom audiences? The problem is pixel doesn't receive events correctly every now and then.
Thanks Hubert - great to hear that. I would base them on Pixel data is possible. That way they update automatically. Yes the Pixel isn't 100% accurate but it's pretty close. I wouldn't worry about the inaccuracies.
This video is a life-saver. Thanks Ben! One quick question: Why is FB not allowing me to create custom audience based on ( past)number of days? Is this something to do with the current ios changes?
Hi Ben, Just came across your videos, they are simply great. Can you please make a video on creating audiences using Facebook Analytics & Pixel? It would be a great help! Thanks for making these videos :) Keep doing the great work :)

So for creating an LLA off of an email list for a local business for example, you mentioned that we shouldn't do 1-2% LLA because on the ad set level when we set the specific city to target, the LLA audience may be too small, and we should do a higher % LLA. What range or what calculation should we use to find a good % for the area we are targeting? (Or do we create several and wait to see the resulting audience sizes from the variation of %s?) Thanks!
Hi Ben - great video as always. Could I pls check with you - even if my Lookalike for Customer List is small and I have to use a bigger percentage like 5% .... do I always have only one Audience per Ad Set? Is there ever a time to combine a few smaller Lookalike Audiences together at 1%....to make up a decent Audience Size of 250,000 and more? Thank you so much for all your fantastic advice.
One of the most detailed videos On LAA. May I ask, what is the difference between custom audience for Website Visitors vs custom audience for View Content? Aren't they the same? Thanks for the answers!
Thanks a lot. That depends what your view content event is tracking on your website. If the view content event is only installed on one page then a custom audience for view content will only visit people that visit that page. With a website visitor custom audience you have tons of other options.
Excellent training. Thank you! I subscribed cuz I want to learn more...Question: can i create a custome audience using an email list from a vendor of homeowners who may want to sell their homes because of life changes like divorce, foreclosures etc?..This is for real estate.
Hi Ben! Your videos offer SO much value, thank you! I have a question please: We'll have a Custom Audience of people who have Purchased from our (Shopify) website in the past 180 days, and we'll have a Mailchimp Customer List also (but this list, I think, includes a number of people who have subscribed to our mailing list but haven't yet made a purchased). Which is the better Custom Audience to turn into a Lookalike Audience?
Hi Journi, your conversion event should be the same no matter who you are targeting. This video explains more about conversion events: ua-cam.com/video/MQvDEoemzCc/v-deo.html
When you create a conversion campaign for purchases doesn't the machine learning use your existing pixel data to optimize performance ? So why is it necessary to provide a LAL created from that same data ? wouldn't the machine learning (during the running of your ads, learning phase and beyond) create its own idea of the ideal audience based on the pixel data ? Great videos Ben.Thanks.
This is a great video Ben - thanks! I have one question - I'd like to create a lookalike audience based on an email list, does GDPR become a factor in this? I have privacy policy for people that sign up to the mailing list to accept, but this doesn't include anything about Facebook. Is there a standard line of text that I should add into the Privacy Policy to make sure I'm complying to GDPR? Or is this not an issue here? Thanks! :-)
Great video thanks, all your content are very helpful and makes it easier to understand. I've never used the "Customer List" option, but have used "website" option for people who have purchased in the last 180 days. Apart from the time period, are these two options basically the same? Might test both.
Thanks a lot. They are similar other than the time difference as you say. You also will see a higher match rate with the second option which will result in a larger and more accurate audience.
Hello, thank you for the video. I have a question. Sometimes I boost videos from my Facebook page of products that are working well to get extra traffic. I was trying to retarget people who watched that video, but when I try to create an audience, for that particular video, this is not showing in the list of videos. Do you know why? Thank you
Really valuable video Ben. Much appreciated. 1 quick question - I know you said not to use interest targeting when using LALs but noticed you didn't unselect 'detailed targeting expansion'. Can 'detailed targeting expansion' be completely ignored if no interest targeting is added? I normally uncheck that box when running normal cold campaigns. Not sure if you've ever found it valuable (in any type of campaign) in your experiences. Thanks
Thanks Sean. I like to turn that on when operating with a large budget and with a campaign that has a lot of conversion history already. Otherwise I tend to ignore it.
So I created lookalike audiences from several custom audiences (25% video views, Instagram/FB engagement etc) and am testing it out on some ads to see results. 2 questions: 1. When using lookalike audiences in an adset can you also add custom audiences to it as well or should you just stick with lookalikes? 2. Is it ever a good idea to also add specific target audiences to an adset of lookalike audiences or does that always defeat the purpose?
Hi Ben, a very insightful video! Thanks for sharing this. Had a quick question - while creating website audiences, if we select the option - People who visited a specific webpage, can the url or the webpage be a competitor's page? Or it has to be a page from our own website?
@@BenHeath I need some assistance here , I have been trying to do a lookalike campaign on "customer list" and I uploaded 2000 email addresses and it keeps saying "population small"
Hey Ben thanks for the awesome tutorial. Do you think it's a bad idea to combine multiple lookalike and custom audiences while filtering them through a very specific interest in a single ad set (I focus on a very specific audience tied to a single graphic software)? Also I have thousands of people in my Facebook group but I'm still not allowed to create custom list from custom files - how would I go about targeting my specific audience?
How do I add more names to an existing custom audience facebook list that I have already uploaded to facebook? Or do I have to add more names to a new list then upload that new list?
I hope someone can help, when using a lead generating form custom audience. If i am starting out, do i need to create the ad set with the form before creating the custom audience?
Hi I have a question, can I upload only email in the File or do I also need to upload the Contact numbers on priority. PLEASE REPLY TO THIS QUESTION. :)
I have a quick question. I’m a wedding photographer and after watching this video going to do some lookalike audiences. I have a large email list of both clients and also enquired clients. Now everyone I target are Engaged but obviously once they are married they change their relationship status to married. Will my new lookalike base part of the data on the fact the this email list has change status as I don’t want to advertise to couples already married. If this is the case should i use additional targeting in the ad set to narrow down to relationship status-engaged?
Hi Ben, a quick question on running campaigns with Lookalike audiences. Should we create a new campaign and put each lookalike audience as diff ad sets or put these audiences in the cold audience campaign.
Hi Ben, great video again. Was simply wondering, how do you create or find images and videos to use for your fb ads for your clients? Stock photos? I cannot seem to find a good guide on google regarding finding effective images and videos. Can you please let me know the process behind all this. Thanks in advance for your inputs.
Great question and I have a video coming out about this within the next month or so. We often are given creative by our clients or we create it ourselves.
Ben Heath again thanks ofr the video I have another question, what is the ideal sample size for conversion numbers, to create LookAlike audience based on conversion? Can I create a healthy lookalike from 50 conversions?
Quick question, on a video of yours I saw about ad campaign structure; you used 4 lookalike audiences in an ad set. This conflicts with the information you provided at around the 35 min mark of this video. Am I misunderstanding? I thought that with CBO, it would shift ad spend to the highest performing audiences (therefore providing you with insights). Thanks, great channel!
Hi Julian, I think that previous video I was doing so for demonstration purposes. Or were they custom audiences? Either way, you want one lookalike audience per ad set. Yes CBO will divert budget to the best performing ad sets - but you still want one LAL per ad set to work out which performs best.
A purchase lookalike audience will update automatically and can only go 180 days into the past. A customer list lookalike won't do either of those things.
Hi Ben , that was an incredible video tutorial .My question is, does it make sense to target both the custom audience and the lookalike audience (derived from the same custom audience) together in the same Ad set
Hi Ben, great content! Thank you for all your videos, they are so easy to follow! A quick question: I have created a lookalike audience list based on a customer list of around 3800 people, but the Estimated Audience Size is Below 1000. Is this normal? Thanks
Glad to hear it :) Yes unfortunately that does happen. Facebook has to match people from your list to actual profiles and that means you often lose about half the people on a list. The actual estimates are quite inaccurate though - so the true number of people matched may well be better than that.
Thank you! Actually, after about 1 h that number changed to 996,400 - 1,000,000 so my guess is that Facebook just needs extra time to populate the list! What do you think?

Hi Ben, thanks for this detailed tutorial. Just a quick question, do you use CBOs or ABOs for your lookalike audience campaigns? Thank you!
CBOs :)
Ben Heath again thanks ofr the video I have another question, what is the ideal sample size for conversion numbers, to create LookAlike audience based on conversion? Can I create a healthy lookalike from 50 conversions?
You'll need at least 100 people in your source audience in one country :)
@@BenHeath Thank so much you are very responsive I watch your many videos. SO thanks once more for being responsive.
Thank you so much Ben. You truly are a godsend.
Happy to help!
Ben, great video. Is there any difference from a Lookalike Customer list audience and a Purchase Lookalike Audience?
A purchase lookalike audience will update automatically and can only go 180 days into the past. A customer list lookalike won't do either of those things.
Hi Ben , that was an incredible video tutorial .My question is, does it make sense to target both the custom audience and the lookalike audience (derived from the same custom audience) together in the same Ad set
Thanks a lot.
I'd separate the two. I don't like including warm audiences and cold audiences in the same ad set.
@@BenHeath thanks for your reply .
Hi Ben, great content! Thank you for all your videos, they are so easy to follow!
A quick question: I have created a lookalike audience list based on a customer list of around 3800 people, but the Estimated Audience Size is Below 1000. Is this normal? Thanks
Glad to hear it :)
Yes unfortunately that does happen.
This is some good instruction here.
Glad to hear it :)
Can I ad people that visited my competitors website ?
Learned a lot! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
