RIP Andy Weiner (keys, flugelhorn). I met Andy at a reunion party for a band that he and I played keys in, but a few years apart. We had a nice jam at Mike's (band leader) house in L.A., and I got to chat with Andy about our musical gear. He told me at that time that he was using a pair of Yamaha Motif XS or XF workstations, and we talked about trumpets and flugelhorns because we both play them. Really nice guy, very unassuming, had a kid-like excitement and enthusiasm when talking about music, proving to me just how much he loved music and everything about it. He was one hell of a musician and nice guy. RIP, Andy.
I absolutely love Chaka Khan doing jazz. I think she is so underrated. Chaka is so versatile; she puts her own stamp on everything she sings. That's jazz.
Unbelievingly mature performance from all. We all know how versatile Chaka Khan is. But here her controlled use of power is masterful. I can't believe this is the same singer that belts out Ain't Nobody. She is a singer's singer and a musician's singer.
i remember petitioning Warner Brothers for YEARS to get them to release this digitally. When they finally did, it was a limited amount thing. Thank goodness for albums!!
CHAKA KHAN JAZZ GROUP! THIS A FANTASTIC PIECE CALLED "HIGH WIRE" AND IS BASED ON CHAKA'S ORIGINAL VOCAL ARRANGEMENT. HER BAND IS GREAT AND OF COURSE IS SHE JAZZ AT ITS BEST
well.... the "piece"... is called High Wire... composed by Chick Corea... and sorry but none of this is Chaka's arrangement... great singing though...;-)
Steve Sinko She also wrote the lyrics and melody of-the "piece"-as we in music call a good tune, if you misunderstood... So if I wasn't specifically technical in not specifying vocal arrangement. . . Oops! She was and is a part of 'Return To Forever" concept group from 1982, which yes features co-composer the fantastic Chick Corea.
I have the album. I love it. share it with my friends and they couldn't get in to her singing jazz. What a shame when people don't appreciate good raw talent music.
Indeed! I thoroughly enjoyed this. Thanks for the upload. I have both Echoes LPs on vinyl (the second LP features Nancy Wilson), and have always appreciated Chaka's jazz stylings. This is a nice accompaniment to my Saturday!
You sound like the producer of that album. It's not even this recording but you give all the credits as if it is. This performance is very different than that one....and as good if not better. You go Chaka.
Yes! Chaka Khan aka Yvette Stevens can sing Jazz!🎶 Her band Rufus used to rehearse in Andre Fischer's(drummer) garage a block from my house. Open rehearsal FYI. Carman Bradford sings 🎤🎶sings a version of this song also. Both great 👍🏾vocalist 👏🏾

Her jazz is ALWAYS wonderful. The most well-rounded singer alive.
i can’t get enough Chaka her phrasing is so full and I hear joy in her delivery!!!

Amen, amen, amen!!!!!
The voice is the first musical instrument -- Chaka demonstrates like no other. Fabulous.

100% agreed. She is underrated by most. There are so many unexplored dimensions of her.
I never get tired of hearing Chaka sing this song, she and the band are amazing,so classy!!!🙏🏼😇❤️
People are sleeping on Chaka singing jazz. I like you, have this song on my favorites list. I listen to it all the time.

This piece is from Chick Corea, called "High wire the aerialist". 🎉🎉❤
Wonderful rendition of this classic tune. And that bass line though... Lettin' it hang low and loose!

I LOVE IT CHAKA!!!
A true vocal stylist. CK can sing practically any song and make it her own. A very beautiful and talented lady.
Is that Vincent Colaiuta on Drums"
now thats when you know your good...when a jazz genius like Chick Corea writes a song 4 you
Mr. Melvin Lee is perfect on the bass !!! :)))
Letting hang low and loose!
Fell in love with this when it came out on the Echoes of an Era LP in the early 1980s. Wasn't it called "Aerialist" on the album?
Yes.
@Funkredible Oh Yes! Pure vocal & melodic phenomena.
Great music ❤
Uma interprete dessas do mais alto gabarito diante uma plateia estatica e fria. Milhonarios que podem pagar mas nao tem o jazz no sangue!
