Chick Corea - Spain - with Vinnie Colaiuta and John Patitucci

- A nice version of a classic Corea tune at the Blue Note Tokyo in 1992. I also have "new waltz" and "tumba" in two parts uploaded here. They're just as good.
This is a very dangerous video. Any kid who watches it is guaranteed to start playing drums and start smoking. The badassery is off the chart.
I'm finding that with Vinnie it's he doesn't treat cymbals as a secondary thing like most drummers do. To him there more important than the drums. And he strokes them with such finesse - it's unparalleled in most modern players in my opinion.
It's so nice when a drummer cares about cymbals! It feels so good to me 😊
Not one single version of Spain is the same in all Chick's live performances. A true musician , a genius. RIP Sir ! You are a legend forever in my heart
Today was a sad day for this trio, as we lost a great one in Chick Corea. The legend
Vinnie is nothing short of a complete master of drumming. Chops, versatility, reading skills, creativity, and the list goes on......
at some point in the 80's Vinnie's "beast-mode" switch broke off in the "on" position and its been stuck there ever since.
Lmao for real.
*70’s ... it happened in the ‘70’s
Numeri uno super
Everything Vinnie does is even more amazing when you realize he's locked with John with his bass drum.
ertoliart TRUTH
Yeah that was so tight i can't even
After reading your comment I went back and that right leg of his was locked with the bass pattern. John was superbly supported throughout. In most of my bass gigs, it was mostly up to me to find a drummer's kick habits. This here was the ultimate rhythm section!
Best rendition of Spain ever.
what a trio - timeless .....for ever
One of the most important musicians of the 20th century.
Amazing ! I love it .
Three Italian guys walk into a bar.... 🥰
One of the greatest Performances in Jazz
RIP Chick the music is forever
This is still amazing 30 years later
And so it remains.
I love how the song builds up until it gets to the classic "spain" melody.Great perfomance
Vinne, "lemme light my cig while Chick is doin' his intro..."
One of my absolute favorite trios. Goodness gracious. So glad this was captured. ❤️
Lisa Bella Donna . Why is it that I want be greedy and keep this to myself in that place where nothing can touch me , except sounds like this .
I can see why😁
@@simonlawrie9215 Because music performed by excellent and world renown musicians like this is like medecine for the souls of ALL human beings.
No pill, just listen. Auditory / Acoustic medecine
@@BigBlackBe4r Is just me , or is the world now full of cretins ? .
Vinnie is one of a kind, he's totally amazing
..my lord the combustion of VC..there are millions of greats..but he is in a class by himself..
Thanks for sharing this, i feel this music full of freedom means a lot nowadays... To me It's the one of the best things that ever happened to human kind...
I am very impressed with your devotion to Vinnie, whom by the way was hired as the drummer on a wedding gig........ by me.
oldpython awesome man!
now that would be a good reason for me to get married lol 😅
wow
For real ? :)
Wow... lucky you
Vinnie smoking a cig while playing lol
he's insane
+Daniel Reyes Must be the Zappa influence. Tobacco was his favorite vegetable.
@@DrBongos Jajajajaja
You can see ash tray on Corea Rhodes at beginning of video
There you go folks. If you want to be amazing musicians, all you gotta do is LISTEN to EVERYONE in the band at ALL TIMES.
Three legends together ! And what a phenomenal performance ! Thanks so much for sharing this gem 🙏
Vinnie... technicaly smooth and powerful..
Three masters cooking together in a hot kitchen.
Living the darkest moment of my life. What a fantastic reflection. Infinite respect to this version of what is originally an uplifting song.
How’s it going?
@@conjandysecurity I guess he fell into the Jexus Abyss
My first encounter with Chick was 1973 and my love of jazz fusion started than, we called it jazz rock😁
Saw him live with Herbie in London , jyst two grands and two grates.......history
Thank you for posting❤️
Awesome version of this classic tune, thank you Chick for your music, great passion and feeling in this performance, rest in peace Maestro! 😢
Rest in Peace, Master
its 2018! making this clip 26 years old.. and yet, we may be cool musicians and all.. BUT.. we'll never be Vinnie cool! Lol.. he's shuffling latin Jazz in Japan with Corea while having a drag.. THATS COOL! Lol wooowww!!! From the 3:00 minute mark on, its simply amazing to watch!!! Mastery at work!
VC is such a character on top of being one of the best. He makes it look so easy compared to say Buddy Rich who looks like he’s going to stroke out... he’s so cool.
THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH STRECH54, never seen this version before, and.....it's awesome!
Chick, you re one of my jazz hero!!!
Genius no question about it rest in peace badass we don't forget. 👍💖💣💥
15 years ago. Chick looked so thin. This trio is three of my favorites. Wonderful to get to see them play like this.
It doesn't get much better than this! All of these three guys are incredible musicians, but especially Chick Corea!
Está obra la toque y la viví. Con estás nuevas introducciones quiero volverla a tocar. Grácias maestro por esta frescura.
Interesting how he suggests , rather than 'plays', the tune we have all come to know and love (I waited and waited for the familiar riff but it never arrived) ... it's likely a mark of his quest to do something different each time ... all good .. I just discovered Patitucci after Chick died ... what a monster! these guys occupy the upper realms ...
I long ago had the pleasure of tuning John's bass for him before a gig. He didn't really need me to, he just knew that as a young punk kid who played bass, that I would like to do just that little act to contribute and be "part of it" in some tiny way. He was very gracious and happy to chat. Chick I got to spend more time around but it was on a public relations thing, but he was always nice and friendly, the kind of guy who made it a point to know your name no matter who you were. Vinnie I never met but I'd almost be scared to, that guy plays and thinks on another level entirely, love it.
@@mikeg3439 Vinnie is a fucking MONSTER !
@@BigBlackBe4r Yeah his musical mind is INTENSE. I remembered being mesmerized by I think it was Private Earthquake #9, something like that, just kept me entranced.
That turned my crank…awesome recording too
A true master…..and wonderful guy!
Well... Corea-Patitucci-Colaiuta.... so, where in Southern Italy this happened?
lol i see you, but this was Tokyo
very technical playing.. superb to perfection... vinnie is really feeling it..
Like them!
Vinnie owns the stage.. in fact they all do, but Vinnie is smoking!
Lars71dk Yeah, smoking a cig... 🤣🤣🤣
DANG VINNIE . That seriously keeps me in shock. This one of the best I've seen .
This is amazing!!
Its always a real thrill to watch Tony play!
Es lo maravilloso del arte, no se puede tocar dos veces, lo mismo (igual) (o, pintar, cantar, actuar, y/o, bailar), cada "entrega ❤️", es
humanamente única.
I just LOVE watching John play.
the way he communicates through his bass and grooves with vinnie and chick makes this trio one of the best i've yet to hear!
hombre muchas gracias por la aclaracion....definitivamente esos manes son unos tesos....
Vinny is so amazing..he can play with Chick Corea and then play with Megadeth? Nuff said.
And plays country too
@@dallasstiles118 I didn't even realize that. Legend.
@@linsk78 he has played with an incredibly wide range of people from Faith Hill to Sting and Zappa plus all of his amazingly extensive studio work. He's probably my favorite drummer.
Alejandro Sanz !!
All while smoking. 😄
Vinnie: should I wait till we finish the set to smoke a 🚬?
Also Vinnie: Nah, lets blaze it during the long intro to Spain. 😆
That smile on his face is mysterious. It's like he's mocking his musical ability.
PURA VERDADE... LOUCO!
It's called eargasm my friend :)
04:45 and forward.. Vinnie disconnect the cigarette and hits the crashcymbal on the move back! Lol 😂
You all are magicians..😊
Love the keyboard reflecting in Chick's glasses.
that has so much energy, i feel like i have to leave the room
that is just locked in...
Truly unmatched energy
The talent on this cut is insane...
Great music!!
Superbe comme d'hab!

Amazing.
Mr.Patitucci's instrument possesses a voice.
3 giants, out of this world...!!!
One of the greatest trio s of jazz ever....
Best ever of Spain in live!
Chick, Vinnie, John, one stage... that's like too good to be true level stuff for me lol. I love Chick's facial expression, it's always something along the lines of "let's have some fun, shall we?" Was. Still not used to saying was, love the dude.
Amazing to think that this was 31 years ago. Wow.
Awesome Band ❤

that´s the best version of Spain that I´ve ever heard. perhaps that´s because of Vinnie´s uncompromising drumming!

frightening!
Vinnie doing his Hunter Thompson playing the drums impersonation 😅 other worldly performance.
Great rendition.
What makes a great and demanded musician? Perfect mastering of his/her Instrument, knowledge of his role within the band, ability and willingness to listen: Steve Gadd !
