Always loved this song because of the chords and melody. Then I concentrated on the lyrics. It's about a female's crazy behavior in a relationship to the extent it's driven the man to seriously contemplate leaving her. This story accurately delineates the basic difference between the temperment of the sexes. (Yes, there are exceptions) I'm just refreshed at the honesty at which the woman "owns" her behavior and says in spite of this, baby I need you so please stay with me. I'm not saying I will change. (That's a subject for another song) They lyrical content is perfectly matched to the jazz/fusion style of this song. Hearing it live brings that stylistic choice even more up front.

They all deferred to her. It was Chaka's smash hit written by Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson, so Whitney may have thought her version was a joy-filled tribute to Chaka.
