Glad you are mainly staying with affordable camera as so many pushing high megapixel cameras that amateur photographers both don’t need and can’t afford, I still use my 80d but have learned how to use affinity photo much better which has improved my images so much more than new equipment, keep them coming as I have culled so many this year that no longer inspire me.

Hi Joshua, Well done once again for being honest and not falling into the classic pattern of most UA-camrs photographers who denigrate their old equipment and influence amateurs to buy very expensive equipment they absolutely do not need. You can take great pictures with a 10, 15 even 20 years old digital camera as well as a film camera. On the contrary, you can produce bad photos with a high end camera. This race for pixels and false obsolescence in photography must stop, a phenomenon that is also bad for the environment. Continue your excellent work.
Enjoyed this video very much and I like the comparison with full frame and the 250D. Nothing wrong with upgrading gear I have done this too with a Canon 90D but I still have my SL2 and use it regularly. The basic message of your channel is still there in what can be accomplished with entry level gear, so keep up the great work Joshua and Happy New Year.
I am excited to have found your channel and I was captivated by your creative artistic work, then I discovered you use a crop sensor and encourage using the gear you have. It's very easy to fall into the hype of new full frame cameras, and I'm just starting out with my Canon D80 and its stock lenses, so I appreciate your teaching and channel focus. That being said, congratulations on your new camera and the exiting ways you will grow. You are so deserving. Thank you.
think this was a good idea. I appreciate this channel bro and the concept behind it. I been shooting canon rebels for years and recently got an r7 (upgrade from a t7i) but it was verrrrrrrry hard to get it lol . One day ill get better glass but love watching your vids and your compositions and coloring styles, and the little useful hacks/small gadgets you have here and there. This is a unique channel, I love that you're shooting an apsc
Great video. I'm also really interested in the S5, I'm really looking forward to your photography adventures with both of your cameras. I really enjoy comparisons between full-frame and cropped sensors. Thanks.
I use my 250D for videos. Anything I do for YT is on the 250D. I need the manual focus magnifier and I need the swivel screen. I also use manual exposure. The fact that the 4K crops, is irrelevant as I often use my 55/250 lens to get as close as possible. Most of the video pitfalls with the 250D are not pitfalls for me. I have no idea what cameras may soon be affordable as I am not keeping up with the trends. I don't need to, as I have what I consider the right tool for the job. If I want to go beyond the 250D for stills, I can drag out my Mamiya 645 with 4 lenses from a previous life in photography. Of those comparison pics, I did pick the Lumix one, not by much, but it was noticeable. Nice to see you expanding your kit, shows you are moving along. Heading towards 10k subs I see, well done.
Happy and healthy New Year, Josh. Good luck with the new camera and content. It's great to see a comparison between the two cameras and the tout process of approaching images!
I subscribed to your channel because of videos like this. You think things through, use common sense, and then proceed. You explain your thought process well, yet are humble enough to realize that all your viewers may not totally agree or may have different circumstances that require a slightly different outlook. I also use the Canon SL3. I took up photography at age 70. I love this little camera, and as you have repeatedly pointed out, it takes great photos. As far as upgrading, I have given it some serious thought from time to time. But then I think.....why? I have taken some beautiful photos with this camera. And that brings up different circumstances. At my age, I do not have aspirations of becoming a professional photographer. Yes, I have sold images as a stock contributor. Yes, I might try a photo shoot if I was asked by a friend or acquaintance. I wish I had tried photography at an earlier age. I enjoy it tremendously. If I had, I definitely would have pursued the professional route. Oh, I am sure the upgrade bug will come around again. But if it does, I think I am going to keep this SL3 as a second camera. Coupled with the Nifty Fifty, it makes a great walk around camera. Wishing you well on your time off. Happy New Year and may God bless you and your families journey through life.
I'm subscribed because of your personality and the topics, in that order. I say 'keep doin what you bin doin and you'll keep gettin what you bin gettin.'
Like you, I've dabbled with different cameras/brands over the years. Photography is something I love to do, for myself, not as a profession. I've got to say that my Canon is by far the best camera I've owned that is easy to understand. I'm still learning, and I still only have a few lenses, but it's my passion (along with my herd of collies whom I love to photograph 🤣) They aren't very cooperative subjects to photograph though. Some of my best shots have come from my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Prior, I had a Nikon. I wasn't in love with it so I let it go. I finally was in a position to purchase a Canon and it was the best decision I've made. Lots to learn, but excited to do so. Photography has been a passion of mine since I was elementary school age. I wish I could remember the cameras I had back then. Thank you for making things easy to understand! And also. Thank you for being honest about the good and bad of other brands that are out there! Keep up the great work!!!
Have to admit Joshua my first reaction was he's replacing his iPhone. I partly guessed you weren't going to interfere with the integrity of the channel. Congratulations and well wear. Continued and enhanced success to you in 2023 let your enthusiasm and energy shine through
Thanks for your diligence. I am somewhat new to your channel, so I didn't know you were doing a Tube a week. That's some hard work. I'm an old hobbyist. Just wanted to say that I learned a great deal participating in Skillshare. I guess it helped that I undertook the tutorials at the start of the pandemic lock downs. Nice projects and challenges. Good information and feedback. And dare I say I follow you on Vero, too.
Hi Joshua. Must say I have enjoyed your videos and you have proved time and time again that one does not need the latest and greatest equipment. I would say however that lenses are more important anyway. I have an 80D and love it. There's no way that I am going to upgrade. The thought of buying a stack of new lenses is a big cringe factor. Keep up the great work matey and I look forward to seeing more content. Cheers, Ann from Australia. 😊
Happy New Year, Joshua! Thanks for all of the wonderful videos. Good for you for stepping up the video game AND for keeping to the original intention of the channel. Enjoy your time off!
I see where your coming from & am glad your primary camera will still be the Canon. Enjoy the Videos & looking forward to 2023 Videos. I commenced watching this video whilst waiting for an elusive Blackbird to appear, I missed some shots when you mentioned the new Camera, by the time I worked out what was happening the bird disappeared. Happy New Year to you and the family from Aussie🇦🇺
Would definitely be interested in hearing your thoughts on the video capability of the S5. As a crop sensor shooter (D7200) I'm more than happy with the images I get but want to explore videography more and potentially start my own channel.
Happy New Year Josh! I’m here in the states and always look forward to a new video of yours. I’m an amateur photographer and I’m always looking for new approaches to the industry. I really don’t have ANY interest going mirrorless myself. I have an older Canon SL1 but my love is my Canon 90D. It’s definitely a camera you should consider. Keep up the great work and I’m looking forward to seeing your next video.
The S5 can capture images that can expand creativity. Also most full time creators sell large prints. Some use crop sensor cameras. But most are using 50 and 100 megapixel cameras. There is a reason.
I mean, a used S5 original model can be had for under $1000 US dollars. Latest Canon Rebel is around $400-600. Olympus E-M1 Mark II from 2016 is around $600. So not a bad value, though not cheap. S5 II on the other hand would definitely be beyond budget photography.
New LUMIX looks awesome 👍 congratulations on 9k subscribers! I subscribed when you only had a couple of hundred! I think with the cost of mid and high end cameras now anything under £1k is classed as ‘affordable’ the second hand market is the real affordable now days. Happy new year and all the best for 2023👍
Hey, Joshua! I have a video request... could you please talk about how to take care of the camera body and the lenses as a beginner? I recently found out my lens has fungus. I don't know what went wrong or what to do in this situation.
I was following your videos just because you were really inspiring me by capturing amazing shots using an affordable camera. Now you moved to a very different category lol. Kinda lost that inspiration now. I am using just an ancient canon T4i and still can’t afford your old canon lol. Good luck with your new camera. Enjoy bro
Hi Joshua, Happy New Year 2023. Regarding your question, is the Panasonic S5 an affordable camera? In my opinion, I think it's a bit too expensive for someone who only does photography as a hobby. Even used ones, in good condition of course, are a little above what I consider affordable. I bought my Sony A7 MK1 in 2018 for €800 brand new and with the normal kit lens. Used Panasonic S5s cost around €1200 just for the body. But to finish, in addition to using the A7 I continue to use my old nikon D3300 with excellent results. One more proof that it's not the gear that improves the photography or the photographer, but the way you use the gear you have or the gear you can afford. Great video, by the way. See you soon.
Hi Mr Peg. On your portfolio, you have a stunning picture of the moon. I have a picture of the moon as well, but it has this weird sheen of blue/purple light surrounding the moon. Is there a way to fix it? Could you recommend something? Thank you very much, Have a good day.

While I agree that your channel seems to sets itself apart with it's use of low budget gear, after a while it becomes obvious that it's not that different compared to other similar channels. Simply because photography isn't about the gear (unless you focus on the technical part). Thus I don't agree with the sentiment that it would be wrong for you to get "better" gear. Might be an idea to educate the general public about this, that a "good photo" isn't the result of an expensive camera.

Unfortunately gear does matter. I've never said that gear doesn't matter. In fact I strongly believe that more expensive gear does produce a much higher standard of work. However, my channel aims to show that you can still enjoy and get great images with more affordable gear. I'll almost certainly move onto a more expensive camera one day.
