      Even the native games are problematic, so it must be very old game if you want to emulate properly (it has only a bit better GPU like a current flagship Android phone, so a few games what they showed only was capable to run with 30-40fps on just 1080p.. if you add that they need any emulation for that, it's just further decrease the already low performance.. i mean Vulkan is one of the worst in stability, so there is a huge gap in the min/max fps, so if the game average fps just 30-40 than you will deffinetly notice the 15-20 fps moments, even if you consider the 30fps as playable state)

    Sending you well wishes Gordon… I’ve been a fan since MaximumPC days in the 1990s! These ARM laptops are looking great, and seem to deliver a significant shot across the bow of Intel. Intel has been struggling to deal with a resurgent AMD (especially in the data center). The question now is how Intel will deal with the threat of an ARM invasion in Client? How are the compatibility of Windows apps on the ARM platform, is the Windows Prism emulator working well? Would you recommend an ARM laptop over say waiting for Intel Lunar Lake / Arrow Lake?

      And with an already dead end technology.. or did you missed that part it's already need 12 power cores to give you this..? I mean the M1 Max doubled the power cores/performance and the M1 Ultra quadtrupled the power cores/performance.. but this chip need almost the same power cores like the M1 Ultra (it had 16, but those power cores gives you the performance..), so how they want to give us any better chip, what can rival the stronger Apple chip..? Because this chip is sucks on that, even on 80W you only gain 10% more performance (from 23W to 80W is about 250% extra power consumption and just 10% extra performance, so deffinetly not capable for any desktop, even if you pump 200W into it, the performance won't raise..)

    • @Kuriketto
      @Kuriketto 4 місяці тому +1

      @@TamasKiss-yk4st There's no point in fixating on core count and per-core performance since Qualcomm's and Apple's parts aren't directly comparable even though they're both ARM-based, just like with Intel and AMD despite both companies producing x86 CPUs. The only thing that truly matters is overall performance and battery life, and that still remains to be seen for these new Snapdragons.

    • @Gustavo_St
      @Gustavo_St 4 місяці тому

      @@POVwithRC Power consumption and chip size in these chips are comparable. The M Pros are a step above in both chip size and TDP. Snapdragon competitors to M Pros, M Max and M Ultras have not been announced yet.

    • @Gustavo_St
      @Gustavo_St 4 місяці тому

      @@TamasKiss-yk4st As far as I understand, the improvement from M to M Pro, then M Max, then M Ultra is essentially chip size, with a corresponding increase in TDP. Sure more things are added, but essentially, chip size and allowed TDP. Snapdragon X was derived from Nuvia, which itself was formed by ex Apple engineers. Their design was different from M's for focusing solely on performance cores. But in the end these are only design choices, what matters is that the current design matches or exceeds the M3 for performance and power consumption.
      As for how much room for improvement each platform has, that I wouldn't know. Apple's own M3 vs M2 improvement came with some not so clever tricks such as increased size and allowed TDP, which points to slowing pace of improvement. And in fact the M4 chip is rumored to be on the same path. That would even be the reason why Apple skipped the M3 and went straight to M4 in the latest iPad Pros. Performance difference between them was not so huge, so better go for the added marketing impact. Everything points to diminishing returns on future M chips. Let's see how Snapdragons do.

    I don't accept that the LPDDR5X has to be soldered. CAMM2 supports LPDDR5X and it is already out in the market. You can buy it today though apparently, it takes 2 weeks to ship. If all ARM-based laptops are going to be soldered, I don't feel like I am going to be comfortable buying them. Soldered RAM bothers me may more than soldered storage, especially with USB 4 and network storage options. I feel like I might as well buy a Macbook. It's not like these are particularly cheap. While faster today, my guess is the m4 MacBooks might change that. Like I am open to ARM on Windows now that the performance is approaching high-end x86 laptop processors at a fraction of the power but we need to know iGPU performance. There is also the question of whether they will support PCIe GPUs in the form of either external GPUs or internally. I am cautiously optimistic but if the m4 family has even remotely decent Ray tracing in professional apps I might just give up on Windows.

Not really a problem for Apple, or companies that plan to run Linux-based OS on these. x86_64 ISA has extreme amount of legacy (multiple decades), that's a blessing and the curse. Intel is trying to do something there with x86S and APX, but not sure what will happen. windows laptops continue to disappoint on battery life, year after year. a 58whr battery is a dealbreaker for me, why? because a arm chip with a fan means a cpu with 5watts tdp minimum, now add the display and other motherboard components we are looking at 10-12 watts total power, divide 58whr by 10watts you get 5-6hrs of battery life. That's disappointing. Apple still has the edge when it comes to battery life.

    Everyone complains about the lack of upgradability but windows absolutely sucks. I was using windows and Linux and Unix operating systems for 15years,m. There’s always something wrong with windows or it gets in the way with updates and things. Mac OS is far superior in almost everything except for game support and its finder but if you’re good with a terminal it’s fine. If it wasn’t for steam for games windows would be dead to me. Mac is like having all the maintenance removed from Linux distros. ChimeraOS and Bazzite arr the only alternatives for steam on windows. If I’d get a pc other than a Mac it’s getting popos or Ubuntu installed on it. Snapdragon has to demolish m3 for me to even consider using windows

    Big surprise, it launches and sucks for the vast majority of programs out there because they are programmed for X86. A 50% decrease in performance due to the translation layer basically makes this garbage. Sure you can use the edge browser to browse the web quickly, but that's about where it ends. It's only a matter of time until this hype dies down. Support is way worse than even Linux so there's no way this is going to stick around.

    “Apple ARM laptops actually have fans”
    Only some of them do. So far from what I have seen, the X Elite is supposed to be competing against the base M series chips and sources keep quoting the Elite can beat MacBook Air. The MacBook Air is a fanless device.
    If these new highest end offerings from Qualcomm, can only beat the competitors lowest end chip, and it has to use a fan (a huge one at that, going by the model in this video), thats going to be rather disappointing for Windows ARM future. Still it will be nice to have more battery life compared to x86.

    I'm actually quite excited about the systems coming available in June and particularly the offerings from Lenovo. I depend heavily upon my Lenovo Thinkpad L13. I know it's on the lower end of the Thinkpad lineup, but it has faithfully served my modest needs without any problems. I was disappointed when Lenovo (apparently) discontinued the initial release of the gen 4 series of the L13 lineup. Not sure what happened, but the reviews seemed poor. I suspect that is why Lenovo points customers to the new X1 series. I'm hopeful that Lenovo will restore the L13 lineup using the snapdragon elite processor. An L13 with 16GB of RAM and a 512TB SSD would do very nicely. I'd even settle for the 1920x1200 screen, as long as it was built on the 16:10 standard. The forthcoming T14s is a great looking system, but the cost would prevent any purchase by me. In contrast, an L13 snapdragon configuration could come in at a much lower price point. I believe a LOT of people would buy such a system. I believe the key word going forward is patience.

    Well, with the 45 trillion operations per second of the new Snapdragon x elite processor and the 16 GB of ram, it's pretty powerful, and it makes sense because the Copilot chatgpt is integrated into the computer in Locale, making it look like Iron Man's computer with Jarvis ☺️☺️😅😅

    It's not gonna matter much if people can't run all their x86 apps on it. And then there's games. Good luck running those under emulation. Prism REALLY NEEDS to deliver or this platform is bust.

    Apple and this soldered SSDs with MacOS...the older macs 2015 and before you could change the SSD. 90 percent of laptops and even chromebooks you can do this. Does this change with the right to repair movement we have gaining steam. And we all know its a money thing with apple too.

    Good that Apple get some real compotition, maybe they can find in themself to up the cheapest configuration to16gb ram and perhaps also 512gb storage. A bit concerned that all reviewer talk about a product, with the product in hand, without being able to run bench marks or other tests. I think Apple have a better approach here, giving some mystical numbers in their presentation, but when the reviewers have the laptop they can do the tests they want to do.
