Hey Max Awesome video BTW, a little smt.. there a little annoying learning curve on the Samsung.
Please open the "Samsung Settings" app "Type it in full it'll not show up if not" under Advanced features enable "Quick Settings" "That's all 🤣" it should be on the sysem tray now u can drag it out for quicker access
You can install the app from MS-Store if it's not currently installed "in some rear cases it not"
HDR+: You'll get even better HDR at the cost of battery life
Camera: Studio mode will make your camera look a little better when activated
Audio: Turn on Dolby Atmos and God those speakers Pop "it's free"
and Performance: You are currently getting a worse performance on the Samsung since you are using the windows defaults u should use Samsung default
All this settings are on the QuickSettings panel.
Hopefully U use this in your updated videos "And show u are so people are aware since it's 2 clicks once setup"

I had high hope because this is the newest attempt at making ARM mainstream but it seems to have flopped. There is really no excuse because this is not the first time Windows is trying to push ARM architecture. Recall AI is a security issue, who wants to draw pics, another review of that drawing feature was pretty crapping on another channel. Do I need live translation when most of the international shows have caption? Am I going to talk to foreigners live often to need the translation feature? Other features like camera tricks for blur and eye tracking already exists. And if battery still not as good as macbooks it leaves very little reason to try Snapdragon X Elite in the current form since ecosystem is already not as good and I was hoping power and battery is going to be much better (WITHOUT plugged in). It also seems like diff PC manufactures have a big difference in performance and battery and diff chip speeds that isn't easy to see and making a choice harder also

There is no comparison here. You picked the highest SKU for the Qualcomm chip. 12P cores vs 4P and 4E cores on the Mac. The Mac was only slightly slower, accept one, in the tests it lost which makes since as it takes 3E cores to match 1P core in a mac. So the mac has less than half the P core count and still won all but 3 tests. Sorry the Mac wins hands down... Oh nail in coffin here; as mentioned you put the flagship against the entry level and the entry level came out on top. Glad you mention at the end about another round but don't use the Pro chip do the Max with 40 cores. I mean you are picking the top SKU for Qualcomm it only makes since to choose the Max 16/40 for Apple.

This maybe is the first batch. When Apple launched M1, the Pro and the Max were announced 1 year later and the Ultra 2 years later. Although the X Elite is below the promised, it's a good start. And the agreement with Microsoft finishes this year, so another companies may enter the game of ARM SoCs for Windows, too (rumors of AMD, nVidia, Mediatek and Samsung are willing to). Jensen Huang, Nvidia CEO, already gave clues about nVidia intentions when he was with Michael Dell and asked by Bloomberg.

    • @weekendintokyo
      @weekendintokyo 3 місяці тому +3

It's their first generation of this kind of product and CPU power of the X Elite matches the m4 (around 15k in geekbench) in multi core performance, and single core is only 7% slower (geekbench 2.8k vs 3k). The NPU is top notch and we'll see if it's actually useful and programs start using it (like davinci resolve using it for tracking or noise reduction). Yeah the GPU is kinda just alright and Apple has the lead there, I expected more too, but as said this is very good for a first Generation product. It's good for us in the End as the end consumer we profit from more competition. Apple dropped the m4 only 6 months after m3 announcement because they were scared of the X Elite and it's multicore perfomance.

Impressive first showing all round. The X Elite did well but I’d prefer it if they removed power profile settings altogether. The Elite X doesn’t need them and its perf per watt that matters most with any portable device. They would be better targeting a balanced profile all round amd going all in on battery life when unplugged. The entire point of Arm chips is that they can hit similar perf on battery due to low power and efficiency. Surely this is a chance to get rid of obnoxious fan spin up when in use???

Tbh, the chip (with same battery size calculations (equalised at 66.5Wh)) performed the same in terms of battery life (arriving both at 48%)
Okay performance wise the m3 performes better
But qualcomm's chip still needs optimisations, qualcomm still need to improve in it too
For their first chip, it's already extremely (to me) impressive to see that on the pc market compared to the third year of apple in the pc market
    Although small correction

Comparing fanless machine with the one with fans is never fair because of thermal throttling. However the overall review is more less right about pros and cons of both devices. Still when u want best optimized and most efficient machine u have to go with Apple which is currently KING of performance per watt and I don't think we will ever see Windows chip which can dethrone it. Apple's HW & SW integration and optimization is already legendary mimicking console like environment. On the other hand what Qualcomm or ex Apple Nuvia to be precise have achieve is extraordinary and very impressive. I was expecting much worse results so I have to give both Qualcomm and M$ credit for doing pretty good job and not repeating fails like with the previous Qualcomm Arm PC chips.

I’d like to see a comparison of windows via parallels vs the X Elite. Also, the major drawback of windows on arm is hardware compatibility. I don’t believe the emulation allows you to use x86 drivers. Try plugging a bunch of usb devices and see what fails. Particularly older stuff

The Cinebench CPU advantage will be due to the X Elite having 3x the performance cores. The whole 8 vs 12-cores is disingenuous. Where are the power consumption stats? Also Cinebench CPU is highly scalar multi-core and Geekbench emulates normal multi-core scaling. Why not compare Blender CPU scores or run the Blender benchmark?
Unsure about X Elite failure in Cinebench CPU, non-RT Macs run it fine.

I’d also love a MacBook Air but wary of committing to the MB as I know the M4 MB will be right around the corner.

For those tasks you would do perfectly fine with even the entry level Macbook Air or entry level Surface Laptop 7. The entry level Macbook Air with M2 cpu starts at $999, but it only gets you 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The entry level Surface Laptop 7 is also $999 and will get you a Snapdragon X Plus with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. But a big plus with the Surface Laptop is that you can easily buy a new SSD for like a 100 bucks and install 1TB of storage. And you also get a 120hz HDR enabled display too.
But honestly, I think both of those machines would work great for your use, but it's a bit crappy of Apple still starting on 8GB of RAM, Microsoft finally stopped doing that with these new machines.
