This was such a helpful video. I have a big dental appointment this morning. I have decided that deserves an upgrade in outfit to let the dentist see that all the tasks I do today are important to me.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching Patricia.
I am a retired banker of thirty years. I’m 63 and have no idea what to wear now to sports with grandchildren, out and about, etc. I have felt so unattractive when I stopped wearing suits and heels. You have inspired me to purge my closet. As a matter of fact I did that this morning with a trunk load for goodwill and consignment. I have made a list of items that I will need for this new chapter. I’m going shopping tomorrow. Yay!!
Thank you so much.
I'm in love with colorful knit blazers. What do you miss about heels? The leather? the height? Try to include one of those factors into a more casual shoe.
Make sure to have plenty of casual basics to build on.
I was in the same place as a professor after wearing a business suit daily, and business casual on Fridays. I donated my suits to Dress for Success, a charity that helps women as they transition to a job after treatment. The thing that most helped me was identifying 4-5 colors I wear because I think I look the best in those colors, or I love the color. I have two colors I wear on the bottom - black and dark blue in various fabrics and styles, including jeans. Everything can be mixed and matched from dressy to comfy home clothes, ‘athleisure,’ as the young ones say. The other advantage is that I don’t need as many shoes. And, I lost weight, so it has been fun to completely remake my wardrobe over the past couple of years.
Thank you for sharing, I'm a banker too for 15 years but I will prepare myself, I cannot be without my high heel and suits too but that need to change🥰
This retirement video couldn't have come out on a better day as I am retiring, today, Match 31st. Thankyou so much for all the creative ideas. I am leaving the automotive production industry where I wore old clothes and now I can dress in casual, relaxed but dressier clothes. And I have always loved wearing scarves which I can now incorporate into my everyday relaxed wardrobe. Thanks again Kay for the uplifting video today!
Congratulations!!
How wonderful! Congratulations 🎉🍾🎊!!!
Wishing you a healthy, creative and prosperous retirement.
Congratulations and best of luck in this new phase of your life!
Enjoy this new phase of life!
I retired from teaching, only to become a pastor's wife. Unexpected turn in our lives, but we are loving it and our sweet congregation.
Wow! You hit on every area that I took time to consider when I retired 6 years ago. The primary change I made when I retired was to do more in-depth Bible study. When I worked, I had set aside each day a time to do Bible study, but now I can spend more personal time researching and understanding God's word. From there, I had a clearer vision of what I wanted to do not only in my personal life but my community and church. Preparing for the day came more smoothly because I had a clear plan ahead of me. Great job in your presentation today. Thank you for sharing.
That’s so wonderful, Katherine. Thank you for sharing that encouragement.
It is so great to have more time to do in-depth study of the Bible. I just love it and time flies if you are having fun.
Betty here.....I'm retired now. In my early years I was a hairdresser, then I worked in retail ladies clothing and finally went back to school to become a massage therapist. Budget is the biggest factor concerning my wardrobe. I shop consignment and thrift stores and with my retail background I can spot quality brand names at affordable prices. It's been fun putting my style together and my husband and I are definitely enjoying retirement. Thanks for this great video! Blessings this Easter week!
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing Betty. 😊
Just so you know, Dress for Success also takes office appropriate clothes that their clients can wear after they land the job, not just for interviews. Since so many office environments are now “business casual” they need slacks, blouses, skirts and shoes that one could wear to work. This is especially true with so many people now working from home.
Absolutely! I just mentioned that because that’s how the website describes the level of clothing they receive. I think it’s just a good way for people to gauge whether an article is an appropriate donation. 😉
And Talbots is a supporter of Dress for Success.
I'm retiring from education in June, and I have a large "professional" wardrobe consisting mostly of cooler weather items, as I live in NJ. My husband wants me to purge my wardrobe, but I told him that I'd like to wait a year and see which items I will use next fall and winter. It's a daunting task, as I love fashion, and I can't imagine how I am going to dress each day once the fall comes and I'm home. I really do want to reevaluate, and I agree that there are items that I will need that I have not concentrated on in the past. I will always "dress" every day... I'm determined to keep enjoying my wardrobe, jewelry, handbags and makeup, of course!
Absolutely. I don’t work from a home office but I still love getting dressed every day. I think it’s an important part of staying engaged and healthy. Thanks for watching Susan. 🥰
Note that this takes time so do not pressure yourself on this. I retired five years ago and am still sorting out who I am and what I need now. Good luck, it's a whole other journey.
You made so much sense to me with this video. I am retired from a business environment and was still hanging into my "work wardrobe" and just started purging about a month ago. I look forward to your advice more than a lot of others who stress 'trends' throughout. I want mostly classic with one of two pieces of trendy with some pop of color. I'm even having my closet remodeled, the actual closet! Thank you.
Oh that is so wonderful! I hope to have a classic makeover one of these days too. 😊
Hi Beachgal
What a refreshing video! There are so few videos and resources for older women- everything is for 40 plus- well that is quite a big age bracket! Thank you for making us feel like life doesn’t end at retirement! Have a lovely day x
You’re so welcome, Effie. I agree, there’s a big difference between a 40-something woman and a 50+ woman. A lot of changes take place in our lives in those few years.
Yep hit fifty things change out of your control go with it hit sixty evens out good luck pencil skirt loafers knee length boots black jean type straight trousers
I'm a 62yr old woman. Retired last year, and I find all I seem to wear these days is gymwear and dog walking gear 😢 Must try harder !!
Love your videos , Kay! Blimey, I wish I'd seen this prior to retiring as a headteacher (in the UK) nearly four years ago I've made some expensive mistakes since finishing work-buying clothes that no longer fit in with my new lifestyle-especially shoes- this lockdown hasn't helped, either! I've been shielding for twelve months and things are starting to lift now so happy days are ahead for all of us x
Yes, I do hope you and all of us are able to get out more soon. Bless you!
so glad you support Dress for Success. I feel useless as if I don't matter anymore cuz I'm not in the workplace anymore. Thanks for telling us we still matter.
You are always important and you make a difference in someone's life (even if you do not know it).
You absolutely do. We all still have a purpose. 🌷
Hi Kay I’m retired I’m so much more stylish and adventurous now . It’s been wonderful , have more time to think about my wardrobe , styling and shopping xx
Hi there
Great video, Kay! I will be retiring in the next five-ish years, and your video is timely. I want my "uniform" to reflect me, and I don't want to get in a rut of wearing "sloppy" clothes.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching Heather. 😊
Hello Heather
I am in the process of early-ish retiring, so this video could not have been a more timely video to watch. Thank you so much for providing a game plan for me! I have not bought any new clothes recently because I wanted to overhaul my wardrobe. Perfect!
Wow! What a comprehensive lesson on planning your wardrobe! You must have put a lot of work into this video! I'm going to save it, and use this info forever! Awesome!
Thank you Julie. I enjoyed making it.
Hi Julie
I’m a recently retired High School Biology teacher and I’ve found this very helpful! Thank you 💕
Wonderful! Thanks for letting me know Sheryl. 👍
Thanks, Kay, so much for a wonderful video. I am a retired school teacher and I love following you daily. I have learned so much from you.
I must admit though, sometimes when I’m cleaning out my closet , I’m not really sure what is out of style. Maybe sometime you could give us retirees a list of those items we really shouldn’t wear anymore. Thanks
I can work on that. Thanks so much for watching. 😊
Super video Kay! ❤️ I enjoyed the information as well as the longer length. I retired just 3 years ago and dumped so many things. Had a camel blazer I wish was still in my closet. I struggle with the amount of outfit changes each day: workout, then shower, then cleaning/yardwork clothes, then something decently put together for an errand, then lounge wear after dinner and back to PJs. Sometimes the makeup slides around during all of that too. You do such an incredible job articulating the transition to retirement, and that it's still important to create a budget and wardrobe plan. Blessings my friend and Happy Easter.
Hi Betsy. I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. And the length! 🙌🏻
Hi Betsy, I agree with the multiple changes of wardrobe! I'm a runner and go to the gym, so that's one outfit. Then as you say you have to be put together to run errands, but not too "nice" if you are babysitting young grandchildren after who spill their food on you or pull your earrings and necklace! We are definitely fast change artists!
Couldn't agree more Betsy!!!!
My husband's first day of retirement starts tomorrow. I'll soon need a new wardrobe for getting out of the house more now.
Retirement and new clothes....win win !
Wonderful! Thanks for watching. 🥰
Congratulations
Good luck with the new adventure in your life.
Great advice! I’ve been retired for 6 months. I had ‘stepped up my pajamas game’ and I’m so glad I did. With a more leisurely start to the day, I find I have had to answer the door or step outside for a few minutes to catch a neighbour passing by without worrying about what I have on! My pjs are mostly cotton leisurewear that I have thrifted and are a size or two bigger than I usually wear.
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing this perspective. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
This video spoke to me😊 After retiring from the Postal Service as a letter carrier, my wardrobe is definitely lacking. Thank you for the great ideas.
You’re quite welcome. Thanks for watching!
Hello Elizabeth
I’m not about to retire just yet, but a lot of what you said applies to the shift in how I am working now. We have been working from home and taking turns going into the office for the past year. It has worked so well that it doesn’t look like it will change! But I sort of feel semi retired, so many of the tips and ideas you shared applied and are very helpful.
I enjoy watching different fashion and style channels. I always enjoy yours the most, it’s just a good ‘fit’ for me. See what I did there😉
Yes, the retirement wardrobe certainly does change. We’ve been traveling (camping) so most of my clothes are so much more relaxed. Even still I need that occasional dress, dress shoe or sandal, etc. Those quality staple items go a long way. Cardigan, jean jacket, neutral top, nice jeans. I’m still sorting through the closet of “previous life” clothes. And now we have the COVID wardrobe too!
Hahaha! Yes we do. But I’m hoping that changes soon. 😉
Hi Donna
I saved this video for retirement and I’m retired since a few weeks. Thank you, I am following your advices for my wardrobe. I do walking, water aerobics, I clean my closets, I cook, I watch movies. My husband is retired. I am so happy Dear Kay. Thank you I like you great videos which are helpful. Have a good day.
Congratulations on your retirement! 🎉
I love the blazers with jeans and casual shoes or sneakers.
Me too! 😉
So my style.
I love the idea - upgrade my P J game! Looking like we’re in the game! Proper attire is such a good idea... thanks for this info. Very helpful...
I’m so glad. Thanks for watching Nova. 😊
Good topic. I love my formal, business wardrobe. Working on how to do “elegant casual” now.
Yes! That sounds like a good plan. 💙
I retired at the end of May last year on my 63rd birthday from a long professional public position in local government, so can really relate to the "uniform" we wear that connects to our identity. Your sensitivity about the emotions and psyche behind this transition is accurately insightful. This video helped me beyond wardrobe. Thank you so much for your intelligent and sensitive approach. I just subscribed to your channel!
Thank you Sharon. 💕
Hi Sharon
After working in communications and advertising, I stayed home for 25 years raising a family, then later worked part-time retail clothing. Now I babysit grandchildren, work as a "standardized patient" occasionally for the university health care faculties, and I'm a runner, hiker, and love to go out with girlfriends for coffee and meals. Your checklist was very helpful, because I think I'm still buying too dressy clothes for my lifestyle! I love fashion. I just bought a pink blazer which doesn't really fit into my day to day life, but I'm going to make it work with jeans and t-shirts as you've suggested.
Sounds like a great plan. 💕
Hi carol
Thank you ! I have just retired (🥳) and going through my career (mainly black/suits) wardrobe this week. I didn’t want to throw away good clothes so Dress for Success is a great idea. And I will certainly do your quiz to get me thinking about this new clothes adventure.
Wonderful! 👍
Thank you for this Kay ♥️💐💕 I am retired and just taking one Day at a time just enjoying my time💋
Kay,, I have been disabled for several years but my husband is now retired! It's wonderful! Thank you for your ideas! I only wear skirts but I'm able to translate your pants in the formula no problem! Keeping my wardrobe accent colors tighter has helped me but I need to buy a little more color! Have a blessed day!!
Wonderful! It sounds like you’re a woman with a plan and you’re working the plan. Awesome! 🙌🏻
This is great information and very helpful. I am two years into retirement and did some of the things that you suggest in the video, but I feel after watching that I need to do the exercises you mention to be sure I stay on track. I took lots of notes for each of the four categories and will be having fun fine tuning my wardrobe. I never really based it on specific activities, and I can see that area needs some work. I'm so excited about this fun process and thank you for the great suggestions and all the work you put into this!
Hello Karen
I spent 30 years as an architect in a small firm, then 8 years running my own business from home. I retired the end of 2019. I wore business casual most of the time, as it worked to meet clients, go to a job site, meet with contractors. The guys in the office wore jeans much of the time, or khakis, and I wore casual slacks, button up shirts or decent knit tops, and a blazer or cardigan. I like wearing dresses, skirts or dress slacks to church. I’ve always had jeans and t-shirts for at home, errand running, etc. I’m trying to integrate as much of my work wardrobe into retirement as I can, to upgrade the jeans & t-shirts for getting out of the house. Love your enthusiasm Kay!
Hello Lynda
Great advise. I’ve been retired for one year and decided I like the one and done approach for everyday. MIDI and maxi dresses easy stylish and so comfortable.
I retired 2 years ago and have been wearing more jeans and casual clothing. I still wear blazers and cardigans, as I think they finish an outfit, works for warmth, or light jacket. I am a classic but love to dress up also, so have outfits for church, women's Bible study, and now that the pandemic is lifting, shopping or grocery shopping. I purged my closet a month ago and gave some items away to originations and now am organizing some items to sell. I have bought more jeans and casual things since I have been following you and Beth, lol, l still keeping my style with the blazers, etc. Have a lovely day Kay.
I also craft. Make cards and scrapbook so have casual outfits for this. Your asked for how we spend our days and forgot to mention this.
I love that. Handmade cards are such a treasure to the recipient. 🥰
Oh, what a sweetheart you are to be so caring for us all! I've worked as a Flight Attendant, to running a Motel with my husband, to working at the hospital booking appointments for 23 doctors, so make up and clothes were definitely part of my life, besides my wonderful children. I've been poked fun at by ones who just don't go for that, but it has never stopped me. I'm retired now, but the face gets put on every single day of my life, covid lock down or not, mask or not! You are helping me greatly with the casual look, but also with a twist of changing that look up with a higher end purse and shoes....not to mention the jewellery. I'm loving it, Kay, thank you so much. Smiling when I heard you mention Anne of Green Gables within your last two blogs....I'm the one living in Prince Edward Island!! :) Blessings, and keep it coming, please. You're giving me a whole new slant on life since retirement. It's not over yet gals!
Absolutely! You sound like an inspiration. Keep getting dressed for your day. I know it makes a difference for those around you. 😊
Hi laurette
Good Morning Kay!
Great video with great suggestions no matter what stage of life we are in. Also, your tips and suggestions are timeless!
Hello Diane
Thank you, Kay, this is quite brilliant. I have watched a few of your videos before, and frankly they did not really resonate with me. But this one knocks it out of the park! So many insightful observations about what we have left behind when we retire, and what we need and seek when moving forward to the next stage of our lives. Thank you so much for this thought-provoking conversation.
Another great video Kay. Thank you. I must say that you look great. That pale blue is definitely your color. This is my favorite of all of the hairstyles you've had. I'm retired and babysit my grandchildren a few days a week so that has really relaxed my wardrobe a lot. I look forward to when the world is safer to go out in and in a relaxed way because I've been building my new wardrobe and am excited to wear my new clothes.
Thanks so much Kimberly. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. How wonderful to get to care for your grandchildren each week. 🥰
Loved your video did lots of styling over the years and really love the tips.
I need to be more organized for Sunday mornings. Getting dressed for church can be frustrating at times, and that’s not what I want to be focused on. Getting select outfits ready and pulling it together is my goal this week.
I'm a retired realtor and I've just purged my closet of dress slacks and as you can imagine, many blazers! I kept a couple I still like and chucked the rest. I still need to prune back some more and this video inspired me to look at my wardrobe with new eyes. Thank you!
Excellent video! Very helpful! Thank you!
Loved this video. Retirement is just around the corner for me! 1 year countdown! Can't wait! 💋😍
Woohoo! 🙌🏻
Hi Sheryl
I so enjoy listening to you! You make so much good sense! Thank you!
Thank you Cindy. That’s so good to hear. 😊
Great subject I changed careers and your video gave me several ideas to repurpose my corporate clothes to a casual office look. I still love many of my outfits but I felt they were too dressy.
This topic is "right on the money" for my life. I am AGE 73 and retired now and my clothing resources are much more limited. I now spend my day caring for my husband with cognitive decline and training my rescue dog. I probably spend half of my day sitting on the floor with my dog or in the open field in deep grass. For me this means jeans, pretty colored sweatshirts, hiking boots, a black ballcap and a windbreaker. Two days a week I go to our local senior center to have lunch with my friends and on those days I dress up a bit but jeans are still my staple. I will upgrade to blouses, vests, and ankle boots (I own black leather and navy blue. That is where I am putting your ideas to work. Thank you!
This is is so informative and helps me understand why blazers and structured doesn’t work for me. My lifestyle is relaxed and earthy. Casual chic is me. 😊 I’m a potter and artist by nature. I will make a capsule for church and Doctor. The rest is casual. Thank you. You blessed my day.
Kay, thank you for this video. What wonderful ideas and an organized method in which to achieve fashion goals for this life season. I think you are awesome.
Melissa 🌼
Your video was spot on! I retired a year ago from the Post Office. I loved having a walking route, right in our little village. When I stopped walking 10 miles a day, not only did I need new clothes, but slightly bigger ones too... so it was a double whammy... since I had worked really hard to keep my weight at a certain number.
I’ve been struggling trying to find a suitable practical wardrobe and this video gave me a LOT to consider and good tools for rethinking and rebuilding my wardrobe. Thanks so much!
Great to hear! Thanks for watching Barb. Happy retirement! 🎉
Thank you so much for the topic of this video. I am in this group and this is the very first video I have found. It is tough to give up my "work clothes" because they are quality pieces, but they don't work with my new (busy volunteering) life. I appreciate your inspiration.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video Alison. Thanks for letting me know. 😊
I have been selling my work clothes on ThredUp for several years now. It's not a big money maker but much of my wardrobe has pieces too expensive to donate. This has actually been a fun hobby since retiring.
One of my kids' kindergarten teachers wore sparkly silver shoes (flats!). I just thought I'd mention that. She was so magical.
I'm busy taking notes on this one, thank you.
Wonderful! 🙌🏻
Hello Loretta
Great points Kay. I'm still "overdressed" for retirement, but getting there, slowly :)
It’s a process, I’m sure. 😊
It took me awhile to figure my wardrobe out after I retired, my husband and I live in a 55 and over community, it’s very casual here, I live in a golf community. I donated many of my clothes, and I live in capris/shorts and tees in summer, and in winter jeans, leggings, cardigans and active ware. I have learned how to accessorize to jazz up my casual clothing,
Hi Christine
Kay, I loved this! I’m resting next month after 34 years of service! It’s a bit scary! It’s exciting! Did I say scary? Lol. Thank you for timely tips. It isn’t a time to stop caring but a time to really shine! Thank you for your plan!
Yes! Shine. I like that! Congratulations! 🎊🎉
Hello Jodi
I’m new to your channel and I truly enjoy your common sense advice and wonderful countenance.
Thank you Sandy. That is so very kind of you.
So much good information here! Thank you, Kay, for breaking it down and helping me make a plan that is more fun than overwhelming.
Annette here, Dress For Success was such a huge help for a friend of mine that was entering the banking industry! Great idea!
How wonderful to hear. Thanks so much for sharing. 🥰
What a good message! Thank you.
In 2019 I was blessed to be able to retire at just 51 from university administration. Finding my new identity was a struggle at first but I soon set up a little hobby business buying and selling antiques and vintage decor. Your video inspired me that it is time to purge my old uniform of office wear (and donate to others who can use it). Thank you!
Wonderful! Someone will really enjoy using those things. 😊
Left teaching March 13, 2020 and retired May 30, 2020. Bittersweet ending for 30 years. I continue working on getting my wardrobe right for retirement. Thanks for this information. It will be very helpful. Can’t wait to be free to do all the things I thought retirement would bring. 😊
Hello Carol
I am so glad I came across your videos. I just subscribed to your emails. 😊
Wonderful. Thank you. 😊
Good day kay.watching your video.stay safe and thank you for sharing it.
Thank you! You too!
Yes Ty this is what i have been doing! Idea wise of the basics
But now you are teaching me how to do this and benefit from all your pointers!
Wonderful. Thanks so much for watching. 🥰
I've been a home school mom/ homemaker for decades but that is ending next year so I watched this with interest.
Yes, even that will be a transition worth evaluating. 😊
I am a retired banker and I started about 5 years before my retirement designing my wardrobe. I stopped buying trendy cloths, I only bought quality timeless cloths . The last two years I stocked up on necessities such as shoes and bras and I stopped buying dress shoes and more quality walking shoes. I checked my seasonal coats and boots to see what I had and what I would need and did the same for them. Quality over quantity . By the time I retired people asked me what I was going to do with my work cloths and my response was wear them as by then they were business casual than business. When you retire your income changes so being prepared makes sense .
I'm a retired elementary school teacher, age 61. Because my retirement happened suddenly, for medical reasons, I did not have the opportunity to plan ahead about what I wanted my retirement to look like, much less what kind of a wardrobe I would be wanting. Five years later (plus a few extra pounds) I have realized that many of the items in my closet no longer fit me...and by this I mean both that they are a bit small and also that they were chosen for my teaching job. I was so glad when you talked about this in the video. I had been feeling as if, because I am no longer needing to get dressed for work and also because I am not earning an income, I did not deserve or need to update my wardrobe. So this was just the video I needed. Thank you very much.
I’m so glad this video resonated with you Darla. Bless you!
Thanks so much for this video. I retired 4 months ago and look forward to the new opportunities in my life. My wardrobe needs to develop around my grandson (had his 2nd birthday yesterday) and hopefully a few more grandchildren for lots of fun.
I did not click on the Skillshare link as I already have a full premium membership and it is worth every cent. You are never to old to learn something new 🙃
Great to hear. I’m so glad you enjoy your Skillshare membership.
I loved this video. June 1st is my retirement date after 28 years in education. The last nine in administration. Definitely will be changing up my wardrobe!
Congratulations! I hope you are blessed with a long and joyful retirement. 🎉
Hi Sharon
Great ideas! Thank you!
Great to hear. Thanks so much for watching. 😊
Thank you for all this EXCELLENT info! Years ago, Oprah mentioned that she had a wardrobe made up of pajamas. I lightbulb went off in my brain...You can have a PJ wardrobe!?!?!?!?! Flannel pants, for me! I never wear them in public, but they sure are comfy and warm for inside the house 8-)
This video is just awesome!! Packed with insightful information and so unique! Thanks Kay!:)
Wonderful! Thanks for letting me know. 😌
I must be very different from the other retired ladies, but I'm still wearing the same style... but I could wear what I wanted as a high graduate civil servant in French Education system... I'm nearly 70 but i cant imagine to be dressed like an old nanny... The only different thing ... is about shoes, their heels are less high now... I'm surely an excentric old woman...
Oh I bet you are a beautiful, stylish woman. I think that’s wonderful. You do YOUR style.
Old and eccentric- just loving it!
I have been retired for sometime now and I have great pajamas and loungewear. But I live in the desert and it’s extremely hot. I have a hard time figuring out what to wear. I tend to wear dresses because they’re easy and throw on a sweater if you have to go in someplace air-conditioned. Even though I’m not out and about I try to dress better than I used to. When you look good you feel good. Great video 😀🇺🇸
Thank you for all you share. I am wishing for a post that will be partially for petite women 5.2" or so. You have a lovely calm voice!!
Thanks so much for watching Angela. 😊
I retired from nursing after 43 years. I still work a few hours as needed. I am active in church. I can’t wait for the Oxford Performing Arts Center to resume concerts. Can’t wait for a twice delayed 2 week Viking River Cruise. 7 days in the river and 5 days on land. I enjoy dinner out with my friends. I really enjoy your channel.
It took a few years, but I finally let most of my working wardrobe go. I really don't miss it at all anymore, but it took awhile!
Retired from being a teacher for preschoolers- part time. I was blessed to be a stay at home mom. I hope to return to working with kids soon at Bible study fellowship. Now I spend my days in dirt in my garden I’ve been building for the last year in our new historic home.
Thank you so much for your great work that help me a lot, have a beautiful day ☀️🙂
You’re so welcome. Thanks for watching. 😊
Thanks for this video, Kay; I only wish it had been available before I retired last year. I went through most of the steps you mentioned but in a much less rational, organized way. To afford my retirement wardrobe, I sold much of my work wardrobe on Poshmark, and used the proceeds to buy gently used or discounted new items there for my new basics. I made my share of purchasing mistakes, but since I wasn't paying full retail, I didn't feel nearly as much pressure to get everything right the first time.
Sounds like you did great on your own. 😉 Congratulations on your retirement. 🎉
Hello Beth
This was very helpful. I already have gotten rid of my career wardrobe and have all new clothes because I lost weight but I bought essentially the same type of clothes. Lots of blazers, black dress pants, and colorful tops. I still didn't own t-shirts or jeans. I do like the look of jeans and blazers so I finally got jeans. I have not worn a t-shirt yet except to exercise, but I will try it.
I’m so glad you found the video helpful. Thanks so much for sharing. 😊
Hello Lauren
Excellent video
Thank you!
I checked our Dress for Success dates and needs since I have a bunch of never worn clothes that are too big. To my surprise they were looking specifically for Carhatt type clothing, work boots. More women going into “trades” jobs sounds like!
Tremendous! I think each affiliate lists their particular needs. Mine says they specifically need handbags. 😊
I’m a retired high school teacher and have been able to use my teaching wardrobe for retirement too! I just don’t need as much.
Wonderful video. Thanks Kay!
You bet! I’m glad you enjoyed it. 😊
Thank you for this video. I retired 12/5/20 and was wondering what to do with my professional business blazers and slacks. Awesome look with sneakers to make the look more casual. Love your style and approach. ❤️👍🏻
Congratulations! 🎊
I retired a year ago in July from a mid-level administrative position at a community College. My next act is as an artist; I do realistic still life's and portraits in oils. Part of my career wardrobe wod have worked for collector and gallery meetings, but I have a serious complication. Since retirement I've lost over 125 pounds and am still losing. As a result, I need to build a wardrobe from the skin out. Not a single stitch I wore as a career woman fits me now. I'm so thankful for this video and the aids on your website. What helpful guidelines as I create a minimal transition wardrobe and plan for my more permanent wardrobe as I approach my goal weight. I'm close enough that some pieces I buy now may carry over permanently. Thank you again for all your help.
Congratulations on your retirement and your weight loss. And I hope you have a blessed, long and enjoyable second act! 💕
I'm in my 3rd year of retirement. Thanks for such an on point video.
Wonderful! I hope retirement is going well for you. 😊
Hello Janice
Retired from a Elementary School Teacher! Now would like to start doing art and crafts! Not sure what to wear for that?
You've raised good points about people transitioning their wardrobe for retirement. A person can look great in jeans and a simple top that didn't cost too much. But the outfit will look more polished/pulled together with a great timeless blazer. Mix and matching good value lower cost clothing with one piece that is of higher quality makes the entire outfit look higher end. Years ago I heard about upgrading the buttons on a jacket, coat, blouse or dress, and Voila! You'll feel better and get more compliments. BTW I heard about you through watching Marie Anne Lecouer's French Chic UA-cam.
Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts 💕
Hi Kay. I live in a 55+ community and retired for six years. Many of us join in for various kinds of sports activities. For me it's Aquasize. You might add that you should also update your active clothes (swimsuits!!!)
This is really worth sharing. Thank you for your insights ❤️
You bet. 😊
Love your tips.
Thank you for watching Sheila. 😊
Hi Sheila
Thanks for the advice, very, very useful shall sort the stuff that are not relivent to my day to use.
I’m glad you enjoyed the video. 🥰
I’ve took early retirement from teaching high school, but I still take the time to dress nicely, even if I’m wearing jeans (i.e. colour-coordinated, accessories, etc.). I’ve also gone back to university to work on another undergrad degree: life-long learning, right? Plus, with four grandkids, I need some casual and easily washable outfits. But I have held onto a couple of more dressy outfits for going to the theatre or other social occasions that call for a more formal look. Re: budget: I frequent the better consignments stores, and it’s amazing what I can find. Also, I don’t need to dry clean my clothes nearly as often, so that’s money saved too.
This is so unique and timely for me- thank you so much!??
Wonderful!
Hello Cheryl
Your amazing and such a blessing....
Thank you. 😊
