Basics have worked for me for 4 decades. I’m 66 now. I have pieces 20 years old that I still wear. Investment in quality is cheaper over the long run! Mix and match and always look put together, straighten your back and feel confident everywhere!
Yes! ‘Vintage’ clothes are much better quality than new things. Why would I ever discard something in a classic style, that fits and I like, just because it’s not new?
My go to style formula is a pair of straight leg jeans, loafers, booties, or ballet flats, topped with a sweater. An elevated knit top or tee of some sort works too. I have a large bust so blouses often gap for me even with a minimizer bra. For the first time since I left the corporate life I bought a couple of blazers this year that I’m enjoying too. Thanks for another great video, Kay. You always brighten my day with your beautiful smile and positive attitude!
I receive compliments when I wear cashmere, as the drape is so flattering. So my go-to outfit is a cashmere top with jeans and a jean jacket. Thank you for your fabulous videos, I really do look forward to your watching your videos every Wednesday! 🍁🍂🍁
I love frank, honest approach of this video. This is the second video forwarded on to my recently widowed (beautiful) aunt in Knoxville. Kay, you are a blessing for so many.
I love your videos! I’ve always had nice clothes, but I haven’t had the style. You have taught me how to style things. I am 78 years old and when I go out, I constantly get comments about how nice I look. And that’s because I’ve learned how to style my clothes by watching your videosand reading your emails. Thank you so very much. I feel very confident when I go out.
Thank you Kay. When I don’t feel like putting too much effort into my outfit, I usually reach for my straight leg or wide leg jeans with a nice quality, long sleeve T-shirt tucked in with a belt. I add my simple fine gold delicate necklace and my smart watch. Then I simply add the right shoes or booties that go with my outfit. If it’s chilly out like it is this fall, I almost always reach for my short denim jacket to top off the look. Easy Peezy.
I love Wednesdays because you almost always have a great, informative video on those days. I’ve just been cleaning out my closet this past week and changing the seasons so today’s was extra helpful. I wonder if you’ve done any videos on eyeglasses. I always struggle with that because they are so expensive and yet you wear them with every outfit you have, so wise choices need to be made. The other thing I struggle with is what to wear to my volunteer job at the library. I will be in the public eye out in the library itself, and yet the majority of my work will be unloading sorting, and pricing books for the book sale back in a hidden area of the library, but it is a lot of wear and tear on whatever I’m wearing, and yet I still want to look nice when I have to take the books out to the public area.. Thank you so much for all the work and effort you put into your daily email. You are my absolute favorite.
Dark wash Levi 501s, long sleeve white tee shirt, navy blazer, and a belt to match my shoes or sneakers. A blazer automatically makes me feel put together and ready for whatever comes my way
Thank you for these ideas. I love them. In the fall, I like to wear jeans, a button up blouse, and when it is cooler, a sweater with them. I really like all the jewelry that you showed! And the blazer - really pretty!
My favorite basics to wear are jeans, booties or flats, button up shirt and a vest for fall and winter. I run on the warm side so although I love sweaters I can’t wear them unless it’s below freezing outside! I’ll choose a sweater vest, quilted vest or denim vest. Retirement has meant a much more casual and relaxed wardrobe. No complaining about that! Another great video Kay! Would love to see a video on how to style leisure wear.
Yes! Your outfit is something that I would wear most of the time. I am a jeans girl. You very seldom see me in dress pants, unless I'm in church. Then I can't wait to get home and get my jeans on. I love your style and the outfits that you share with us. I love your blog and your videos. I have learned so much. ❤
My favorite, “dress down outfit” is any color pair of jeans a white Tee, and a Denim shirt. What helps with the mood I’m in is The Belt. I have bought a slew of belts this spring and summer and I use them to set the mood for my dress down outfit!
I get up on Wednesday's and cannot wait to see Kay and learn. It is so nice to have something to look forward to. I am so thankful for you Miss Kay. I so wish fall would reach us here. It's still so hot.
My go to outfit for fall is straight leg jeans, a sweater, a pair of booties and a handbag that matches. Simple but I feel put together and I believe it looks like I gave some thought to my outfit.
My go to are dresses, one and done is just so nice. Living in Southern California it gets so warm most of the year. I actually got some in thicker fabrics for the fall and winter as well. Now I just need some knee high boots.
So far this fall my go to is a dress and a jeans jacket or jeans, a tee and my jeans jacket. I feel pulled together but casual. I have several styles of jeans jackets, but love my trucker style.
I have a small collection of Diane Von Furstenburg dresses ( I make most of them myself). I have several lengths. Some have long sleeves, some short, and some are sleeveless. They can be styled for a formal occasion or even for your kid’s sports event. They are flattering to every body type. My secret is I never feel like I need to rush home to strip into my pjs because these dresses feel like I’m wearing a dressing robe. I always get compliments on these dresses.
This is a great video, Kay. I love these basic pieces. One of the things I do to make getting dressed easier, is to choose my outfit in the evening for the next day including shoes and other accessories.
Thank you so much for this video as I have been looking to update my go to basics which is boring! My go to basics is a pair of straight jeans, a navy/black cotton turtleneck and navy/black puffer vest with cognac loafers and cognac bag! I will gift myself the camel Veronica Beard blazer for starter.
Thanks for reminding me to wear button up dress shirts! I have many left over from working, and now that I'm retired I should wear them. Also I have lots of blazers, so I'll pull those out too!
Thank you for a clear and visible illustration of how to do the cuff. Regarding your request to share what outfit makes me feel a million bucks, I am trying to get more esteem, that´s why I appreciate your tips and trying to learn, to grow in that feeling. I usually dress to be invisible, but I´m trying to change, learn. I usually in autumn wear straight leg relaxed jeans with chealsea boots, a tank top and a cardigan with jacket in a neutral blue over that, I don´t wear blazers, but trying to grow into that, because it looks real nice.
When I’m stuck I look at outfits you have created and I try to pull together something similar from my closet, because I like your style. I have photographs of outfits I like to wear so on some days I just repeat one of those. I credit you with that idea. Blessings ❣️
My go to on my “not feeling it days” is either a Spanx air essentials set or one of my Frank and Eileen Malibu Travel Sets. Very easy and comfy choices! And they ALWAYS look put together.
Hello Kay. My favorite go to basics for fall/winter are a pair of jeans, a cashmere sweater and a blazer. We are still at 105 degrees here in Scottsdale, AZ so I can't wear these items just yet, but I did get to wear these pieces last week on our trip to England. Your last look with the blazer and button-up was fabulous. The Veronica Beard blazer is absolutely beautiful. Love the style and color. Thank you for your weekly style inspiration.
Wow, great timing. I was struggling this morning because cool 57, but high is 80 today. I just laughing said, I don't have a thing to wear," (with a closet full of clothes), and then your video popped up in my subscription box. I ended up with ankle jeans and a white cotton button up front shirt! Stunning 😍
I have two "go-to" basics that I wear when I want to up the style: loafers and a blazer. They are my favorites! Thanks for reminding me to wear button down shirts. I actually like wearing them-especially a chambray shirt, but a white button down is good too. I love your videos. I've been busy recently, so I've been trying to get caught up!
My fall and winter basics are a straight leg full lenght jeans (bleu or black). A colored T-shirt (scoop neck). A little cardigan: cropped lenght, fine knit. I have the shirts and cardigans (both very affordable) in many colors, so I always find a combination that suits my mood. I can top it with a scarf on colder days.
My go to are dresses in summer because I find them so comfortable, but I even wear - different - dresses in autumn and winter with the addition of a blazer or a sweater over my shoulders. However, if it's really cold outside I prefer trousers in combination with button ups and sweaters as you showed it.
My go to outfit this season is a wide leg jean, Hermes or YSL belt, cashmere turtleneck, blazer, and kitten heel pointy toe bootie…and a designer bag or a trendy suede hobo bag, which is new for me this fall.
Hi, Kay. Another wonderful and inspiring video. You certainly blessed my day! My go-to outfit is a nice crew or v-neck cotton sweater over a t-shirt with fun jeans and contemporary sneakers. I love my gray Cariuma sneakers that go with everything. I’m hoping to buy some retro sneakers also. Thank you for your great ideas. You look beautiful as always.
I love everyday outfit inspiration! The everyday outfits are the ones I struggle with. Two formulas for fall. A blue striped button up shirt and jeans. I love the ones from With Nothing Underneath. (this year I’ve gone wild and bought a red button up) or a light weight v, crew neck sweater or a polished cardigan. I like the ones from BR factory.
There are always new ideas about clothing. Recently I realize the tops I have that contain 5% spandex have “grown”. They are almost twice as long as they were when I purchased them eight or ten years ago. They are hugely long in the torso and the arms, whether they have been folded up or have been hanging. No more spandex for me. I just size up if I want wiggle room. My 100% natural fabrics look practically new.
Absolutely ,Kay my Go-To Are Neutrals Because There Esstenials Too How I Feel In The Clothes And Shoes That I Wear And Not To Revealing But Stylish I Think From A Point Of View .!!! And Kay I See That You're Outfits Are Always Stylish And Trendy !!Love It Kay !! TaKe Care And Send My Warmest Regrads To Your Wonderful Family !! I Hope To See You Next Time In Your Exciting Video Bye-Bye Kay.!!!
I have a pair of straight left, dark wash jeans that I wear with a colorful lily pulitzer top. Navy booties. Bright colored earrings. It’s colorful and fun on a gray dreary Pacific Northwest day.
I live in central Florida so for me a nice pair of joggers and a rayon blouse (short leave or sleeveless) is my go to or a linen shirt dress that is knee length.
I bought a pair of short boots ( is that what you mean by Chelsea boots?) last year and it makes me feel more dressed up when I wear jeans. Jeans and sweatshirts are my daily wear but adding a dressier t-shirt and maybe a soft cardigan helps me feel prettier! I just found your site and glad I did! Thanks for the basics.
We are now in transitional temperatures; some days are warmer than others and it could be windy as well or the sun makes it even warmer, so selecting the right clothing can be tricky. I am not much of a jeans person or blazer person. But, if I am not still wearing a skort (for long walks), then I am transitioning to medium weight slacks with short or long sleeve pull over top. If I don't feel like making a fuss, I pull out a very comfortable pair of leggings and matching long tunic top for walking or running errands.
Well Kay you will think I have lost my mind but my go to this summer has been lounging pajamas. I have had many health problems and been in the hospital five times and had two different surgeries. I was able to find some pajamas that do not look in the least like their pajamas. They are short sleeve and Capri length which is good here in the Texas heat. I wore them often as people would come to visit no one could believe they were pajamas. One time after our hurricane on July 8 we were required to go to our cable store and apply for a credit. It would not be given automatically. Believe it or not I went in those pajamas. The lady that was sitting next to me commented on how cute my outfit was and I whispered to her they were pajamas. Now that I am feeling better and getting around better i’m looking for something equally comfortable but good looking. Love in Christ
My casual go to in Fall would be blue jeans, blue t column with coordinating flannel shirt with boots, flats or keds. Not much for make up or jewelry except on special occasion. I've inherited most of my jewelry. That maybe why I don't really love them. I'll look at your link for more modern pieces.
As boring as it may sound, my go-to is dark wash blue or black jeans and a white shirt. could be button, tee, silk, tone on tone...just suits my coloring and lifestyle. Easy to dress up or down with jewelry and shoes.
Hi kay. I really enjoy your videos. I love a crisp white buttoned down shirt too, but somehow never find one that is just right. Not too large on my frame yet doesn't gape on my large menopausal bust. Isn't transparent . Sits right on my petite 5"2 frame. Any tips?
Hey Kay, is there a link to the white v neck t-shirt you are wearing? I've searched your website but can't seem to find one. I sure do appreciate all you do! Blessings
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be available anymore. I think I got it in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. It's constructed like this one rstyle.me/+pUPkpmuIJEjW3TZQJQwY9A, but not available in white or even a solid now.
My go-to outfit when I don’t feel all that creative is my favorite pricey light grey soft cotton Tee with a good bra. I pair it my favorite fitted dark wash jeans and well-aged taupe angora wool cardigan. Slip my toes into my Navy loafers, hang my gifted gold earrings frame my face, brush on my Clinique “All heart” lipstick and I can take on my day.
My hair is silver now....I just don't like the way I look in brown or even camels...how do you manage this? I just look better in blues (all shades of blue actually) or black (even though I am tired of black if I am honest.) I'm a little bit rolly/polly and have large breasts so front button up shirts just do not work for people built like me. Sadly the front of a button up blouse just gaps open every time.. I can however wear a blouse open over a tee top. My go to is a navy knitted blouse or top with a navy vest over it that I take off as the day heats up.
I just wear the colors I love and don’t give much thought to how I look in them, to be honest. I know I look better in some than others, of course. And if I feel like something really doesn’t suit me I never let it into my wardrobe. But I’ve never been one to overthink color. 😉 Thanks so much for watching. 😊
Dear Kay, I am petite and of normal weight, but I have 34DDD breasts. For this reason, a button up shirt does not fit me at all well. I have success with V-neck tops that don't have a center vertical line.
Well said! Thanks for watching. 🥰

Lovely. Thanks so much for your kindness. 🥰
I always feel comfortable in my Chelsea boots and jeans jacket. They never go out of style and aren’t terribly expensive.
I agree. Love that!
I receive compliments when I wear cashmere, as the drape is so flattering. So my go-to outfit is a cashmere top with jeans and a jean jacket. Thank you for your fabulous videos, I really do look forward to your watching your videos every Wednesday! 🍁🍂🍁
I love merino wool too. It doesn’t itch and has nice weight.
Love that! So chic! 🥰
I love frank, honest approach of this video. This is the second video forwarded on to my recently widowed (beautiful) aunt in Knoxville. Kay, you are a blessing for so many.
Thank you. That is very kind.
My go-to is a column of black, then add whatever I'm in the mood for (jacket, sweater, scarf, tunic, etc.)
Yes, me too! So easy to change up the look and a great base to start with. A column of navy is nice, too
I love that. I like wearing a column of black, too. 🥰
Straight leg jeans, low boots, white t and either a blazer, jacket or sweater
My favorite go to outfit is a great pair of jeans and a hoodie or a comfortable sweater with either boots or sneakers. This makes me always happy.
Thanks for sharing!! 🤗
Thank you for including all of us warm undertone people when you mention the white blouse or another color
My go to outfit is a dress-with tights in the winter. Very easy to put on and even quick when I have to use the bathroom!
I love your videos! I’ve always had nice clothes, but I haven’t had the style. You have taught me how to style things. My blue striped shirt over a white tee shirt gives me a needed boost. Also, a dab of lipstick helps too!
Yes! 🙌🏻
Thank you Kay.

Hi Kay, love the colours you're showing today, the browns and navy's are gorgeous for Autumn🙂
They are! Thanks for watching. 😊
I love Wednesdays because you almost always have a great, informative video on those days. I’ve just been cleaning out my closet this past week and changing the seasons so today’s was extra helpful.

My go to is a pullover dress that I accessorize with jewelry and appropriate footwear for the season. Easy peasy!
Yes, a one and done is a super option. 🥰
My go to is a pair of jeans or slacks with a blazer. Love my blazers!
Me, too! 🙌🏻 Thanks for sharing!
Dark wash Levi 501s, long sleeve white tee shirt, navy blazer, and a belt to match my shoes or sneakers. A blazer automatically makes me feel put together and ready for whatever comes my way

I love your style and the outfits that you share with us. I love your blog and your videos. I have learned so much. ❤
You sure are right with the concept of sticking to the basics!! Love your classic look Kay!
Love the brown hoodie ❤❤ and the chelsea boots.

Oh i know! Thanks so much for watching, and for your kindness.
Those jeans look so nice!
My go to is jeans, black button down with a little spandex and boots. I have several blazers and sweater jackets I can pull on for a little warmth!
My go to outfit for fall is straight leg jeans, a sweater, a pair of booties and a handbag that matches. Simple but I feel put together and I believe it looks like I gave some thought to my outfit.
Simple can be magical! 🤗
Yes! I love a dress with a jeans jacket, too. I'm showing that combo on the blog tomorrow, in fact.
I have a small collection of Diane Von Furstenburg dresses ( I make most of them myself). I have several lengths. Some have long sleeves, some short, and some are sleeveless. Yup. Straight leg jeans, either pullover sweater or button up shirt and my hey dude shoes ❤️
Thank you Kay for the price point options..
You bet! 👍🏻
This is a great video, Kay. I love these basic pieces. One of the things I do to make getting dressed easier, is to choose my outfit in the evening for the next day including shoes and other accessories.
Great tip! I try to do that too. 😊
Kay, thanks for all your tips and the variety of different pieces and price points. I love how you show the wardrobe capsule to mix and match

Confidence boosting tips ! Thanks so much 👍
Wonderful! Thanks for watching. 😊
I love this. Thanks for sharing your journey and style choices. 🥰
I applaud your "trying to change, learn" comment! Your description of your autumn-wear sounds great. You will not be invisible!
Thank you for such a clear well organized presentation. I was reminded to really look and buy from Quince for go to pieces!!!
Glad it was helpful! Yes, I linked to several great “stylish every day” pieces at Quince. Thanks for watching. ❤️
These are good choices for basics. I have a form of each one in my closet too!
Love that! Cozy and gracious but also stylish. 🥰

Your last look with the blazer and button-up was fabulous. The Veronica Beard blazer is absolutely beautiful. Love the style and color. Thank you for your weekly style inspiration.
Ooh! I feel ya! You'll have to travel somewhere cool this fall or winter so you can wear that lovely combo more!
I love this video. Very helpful!
Glad it was helpful! 🥰
My go to is wearing white/beige/cream. I feel put together in these colors regardless of the pieces or style. Oh and a pair of gold hoops!
Love that. Soft neutrals are so beautiful. 🤗
Great video Kay I love the look of the jeans & white button up shirt! My go to is jeans & a blazer or any stylish jacket usually black
I love that choice! Thanks for sharing.
Love to wear a dress with a Jean jacket or a blazer. Sometimes flats and other times boots. Enjoyed your videos.
Wow, great timing. I was struggling this morning because cool 57, but high is 80 today.
My go to is a pair of cargo pants and a sweat shirt or sweater with a pair of booties. Cozy.
I like that! Thanks for sharing.
wow wonderful you are with your cute outfits
I live in the south. Still hot right now. So,still wearing shorts. But I love structured travel shorts or Jean dresses.
Thanks Kay for the video! My fall go to….sweater, jeans and pair of Chelsea boots for those fall festivals or visit to local pumpkin patch.
Love that! 🤗
Thanks for another great video! Your videos are always so informative and encouraging!
You are so welcome!🤗
My go to are dresses in summer because I find them so comfortable, but I even wear - different - dresses in autumn and winter with the addition of a blazer or a sweater over my shoulders. However, if it's really cold outside I prefer trousers in combination with button ups and sweaters as you showed it.
Thanks for sharing!! Love this options. ❤️
My go to outfit this season is a wide leg jean, Hermes or YSL belt, cashmere turtleneck, blazer, and kitten heel pointy toe bootie…and a designer bag or a trendy suede hobo bag, which is new for me this fall.
Ooh la la! Sounds so chic! 🥰
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms I really love fall clothes!🥰 So many elegant options!
Fancy!
The blazer with the dickie hoodie looks amazing on you! Love it. ❤
Thank you. 😊
Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for sharing!! 🥰
My basic formula is jeans, tee and cardigan. I dress it up or down with the shoes and earrings.

I have a pair of straight left, dark wash jeans that I wear with a colorful lily pulitzer top. Navy booties. Bright colored earrings. It’s colorful and fun on a gray dreary Pacific Northwest day.
Worth watching 😮❤
Jeans, cashmere sweater, boots, faux leather moto jacket or a trench.
I live in central Florida so for me a nice pair of joggers and a rayon blouse (short leave or sleeveless) is my go to or a linen shirt dress that is knee length.
Great choices. Stay safe! 🙏
I purchased the Quince single breasted scuba blazer in black and navy. I think I will be reaching for them often to pull my outfits together.
Lovely! I got it in navy, too. Really looking forward to wearing it. 😊

Bless you. Good pajamas are a great thing! I’m glad to hear you are feeling better. I hope you continue to get well. ❤️🩹
Would love to know the brand of your cute pajamas!🥰
Thank you and God bless you.
My go to is some dress summer and winter form malta
Great video! I would love to know what kind of socks and colors you wear with your boots and loafers in the cool weather. Thanks!
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it 🙌🏻
Kay, a great video! You mentioned your Chelsea boots that you’ve got two pair and other colors plus this pair. What brand was that?
These from Talbots: rstyle.me/+ddkphXWdRDDzy1DLcBeYvw But I don't see their leather ones. Maybe they'll come out soon.
Effortless outfit: White button up, relaxed jeans, coordinating purse, loafers and SCARF!
Love that!
My new favorite is a denim coat( not jacket). Excellent quality designer brand. $40!
Lovely! 😊
I love the camel blazer, can you share the brand?
It’s this one at Veronica Beard. rstyle.me/+v_dWK423e4jJI0iogI7btw
As boring as it may sound, my go-to is dark wash blue or black jeans and a white shirt. could be button, tee, silk, tone on tone...just suits my coloring and lifestyle. Easy to dress up or down with jewelry and shoes.
Not boring at all. I think the best no-fail outfits really are the most simple. 😉
I noticed lovely belts in several outfits and realized that is a hole in my closet. Any recommendations?
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms thanks for such a quick reply! You are so very nice and I am glad to have found you and your website!
What brand is the first pair of jeans shown in your video?
My go-to outfit when I don’t feel all that creative is my favorite pricey light grey soft cotton Tee with a good bra. I pair it my favorite fitted dark wash jeans and well-aged taupe angora wool cardigan. Slip my toes into my Navy loafers, hang my gifted gold earrings frame my face, brush on my Clinique “All heart” lipstick and I can take on my day.
Sounds like a win! 🙌🏻
My go to style is dark wash jeans, a textured blazer , loafers or booties and a structured handbag.
Sounds perfect! 🤩
Can I be cheeky and ask where you got the bird on your mantle behind you. Thank you. 😊
Not cheeky…I don’t 🤔 think. Here’s a link. rstyle.me/+1L06o12pVMicSG31Lh5zbg
Kay, I'm not finding the link for the blazer you're wearing. Did I miss something?
Hi. Is the shirt hem hanging below the sweater hem still a thing? I’ve always found it quite comfortable.
You can wear it either way.
I NEED that fitted 3 BUTTON camel blazer, but your list doesn't have it 😢
It’s here rstyle.me/+v_dWK423e4jJI0iogI7btw
What is the leg width of your relaxed jeans?
I wish women would discover how great they look in skirts.
Your comment caused me to think. I am 73 y/o and have three skirts. I will be back to you on this. 👍🏻
I would like to see more styles for overweight older wlmen
The basics I showed today have no age or weight limit to them. 😊
Off this topic..but Kay, what product and shade do you use on your brows?
I use this in taupe rstyle.me/+mkOT06cVc3ThKjDhGssNWQ
Grays and blues worn together would look great.
Dear Kay, I am petite and of normal weight, but I have 34DDD breasts. For this reason, a button up shirt does not fit me at all well. I have success with V-neck tops that don't have a center vertical line.
Certainly were what works for you. These are just my go-tos. 😊
