As a short person, I have to watch what I wear. I will have to see what I can find for vests and tunics or quilted jackets that aren't puffy. I am doing my best to wear striking or cute items. :) I hope that you are having a wonderful Sunday.
Great video...my biggest problem is posture. I had a huge chest until I had breast reduction surgery and I slouched and slumped to try and hide my chest. My plastic surgeon, on my final appointment, pulled my shoulders back and told me to sit and stand straight. He worked at the hospital where I worked and as I left he said, "I don't want to see you slouching!" Well, I try to remind myself to stand up straight or sit up straight and it's still a battle...my surgery was at least 30 years ago and I'm 72 now. Linda, get your act together!
I am on a medication that adds about 15 pounds-most all landing on my belly. It can really get me down. Your comments at the end were very encouraging. Thank you
Great tips! To be honest, I don't struggle in this particular area, but it wouldn't matter if you were giving tips on how to spend a million dollars a-day..( I don't struggle in that area either, ha!)....I would listen to your videos or read your posts because you are such a precious , kind, and uplifting soul! Blessings to you and yours! And thank you for all of your hard work that you put in to bring us ladies relevant information!
Thank you for this video! I previously wore zip up jeans, which always showed through my tops due to my tummy and the snap closure bending out. I’ve discovered these wonderful pull-on jeans that do have a minimizing effect and don’t show at my belly under a top. They help me focus more on having a good day than my body image. I appreciate your words that our body shapes truly aren’t what we should focus on. I work every day to internalize those words and count my blessings instead. ❤️ You are a true inspiration, Kay......😊
Such a wonderful video! I was thin for 2/3 of my life, but post menopausal I have gained a lot of weight and I have tried so many things to lose it, but at 69 my weight rarely fluctuates more than a few Lbs. I love your tips and encouragement! I find myself letting my weight consume me and your tips will certainly help me move in a healthier mindset.
Some great tips Kay! Sewing my own clothes has been a wonderful thing as I’m in the 60+ group. At 5’2” it is often a challenge to purchase good fitting clothes. Sewing has allowed me to grade between sizes for a perfect fit. You are so right about a correct fitting bra! The size changes as we age, gain or loose weight. Rouching is definitely a plus to hide a tummy. Vertical lines, monochromatic dark colors and vertical jewelry like you are wearing in the video are also so helpful. Thanks for all the wonderful ideas!❤️
Your final statement is beautiful. Joy, confidence and grace are the best outfit pieces we can wear as mature women. We are survivors and inspiring! Our smile and calm brings peace to our little corner of the world. Love your videos!!!
So true about what we notice! I never notice other people's tummies, just my own. That is a good reminder that people are not looking at our tummies like we worry they are. :)
As a Certified Bra Fitter for the last 17 years I truly appreciate you telling women the benefits of a well fitting bra. I tell women a well fitting bra will make you look 10lbs. thinner and 10 years younger!!
Ok, can a Certified Bra Fitter make a short woman, with small chest, big tummy, skinny legs and skinny arms look better than a potato 🥔 with sticks? 😂 I am exaggerating, I have curves and I don’t look too bad, but I never went to a CBF, because I never thought there can be bras for my small chest, so I wear bralettes and camisoles most of the time. I like my breast, they haven’t become saggy or softer even after breastfeeding my 2 babies for over 2 years each one. Now in my almost 50’s I have noticed a belly that feels bigger than my chest. If a Certified Bra Fitter can help I will definitely make an appointment.
What great tips! Love your videos and your blog because you always offer valuable styling info. I can tell you've spent time researching. I have a mid-life tummy - some days more than others! I'm conscious of it and do what I can to minimize it but I've also realized that I'm 61......and my body shows that. Even though I exercise, my body is still going to show (and feel!) its age to a certain extent. I've made the decision to to do my best to dress this body/figure in an attractive way and then forget about it and go enjoy life! There's no reason to beat ourselves up. Our inside beauty (or lack of it!) is what people will remember.
I hate the proliferation of Spandex in tops, even if I size up, they just squeeze me and emphasize my larger bust and not-trim middle. There’s a limit to how much I can size up, though, because I’m narrow in the shoulders. The descriptions often say “cotton fabric”, then I’m unpleasantly surprised to find they are as tight as a pair of pantyhose. From now on, I’m not buying anything that doesn’t give the exact fiber composition.
Thank you! I thought it was just me. I've experienced this too many times. It's especially disconcerting because I have to buy almost everything online, and when I order the same brand as usual but there is spandex in the shirt, it fits a size smaller than usual.
OMG, first time I’ve heard and seen so many real world tips for hiding a tummy. Thanks for saying don’t tuck your shirt and then gave a real alternative, stick to the right length for you. Mind blowing, yes !!! Thanks for acknowledging empire (and peplum ) tops are hard to find and still tricky if they don’t hit your tummy at the right place. Will be watching this post over and over, studying what will work for me. God bless you!
Thank you for that last statement. I have always tried to teach my children not to critique or judge the outside of a person’s appearance but look for the character of what comes through from the inside.
My best tip, and I DO have a tummy is to wear shapewear. Spanx make me crazy because it’s too tight for me. I love Shapermint and have 3 different ones. I wear them when I need a smooth look, and under dresses, etc. I wash them inside of a mesh bag on cold and delicate, and hang to dry. Never dry. There are other brands, but this brand allows me to breathe, and smooths out the lumps, bumps and jiggly parts of my 62 yo body. Your last few comments are the BEST! Confidence and happiness covers all kinds of body issues.
I love the tips and the encouragement! I'm short in staure with a belly albeit not a huge one but still! I fell for the puffer vest but found they aren't created equally. I wear ones with form fitting features in the back or sides to keep me from looking like the Michelin man. Lol. I also prefer thinner ones for less bulk. I can get away with that down south. Belk Kim Roger's brand and JCP St. John's Bay have nailed these features for me .
This is a wonderful video. I fall into the category of having just a little tummy to hide but I agree with your last tip as the best. I certainly don’t notice tummies. I also notice smiles and attitudes the most. Thank you for your research!
You have the best tips! You also share ideas that I have not heard and I am so appreciative! My only suggestion would be to cut down a little on the talk time and lengthy explantations.
As I got older and developed more of a tummy, it became more obvious that I have a high waist. I had never before considered petite sizing because I don’t have “Petite” height. But I’ve discovered that Petite proportions in tops allows me to buy a smaller size. In a Regular size, the waist hits at my belly rather than my true waist. In the Petite size, the waist hits a good inch higher, which is where my narrowest point is.
Great video and tips. Especially the last one about not being too worried about ourselves. To just dress for joy and happiness. We need to love ourselves as Jesus loves us. The only thing I do not care for is the loose long camel vest you wore. I have seen you wear it before and I do not think it is flattering. Just my opinion. I love your new haircut. Your hair always looks nice. Have a blessed day.
I love how you present your wardrobe styling tips, especially this one on tummies. I appreciate you aren’t focused on weight loss or exercise, but instead inspiring us to work with our God-given the body style. I’ve had a “tummy” since in my 20’s, after birthing two big babies. Even when I’ve been underweight (rarely 😉) over the years, I still have a tummy. My wardrobe reflects many fashion pieces from your recommendation. Thank you!
I so appreciated your closing comments. Thank you for adding that piece. I think personal style is about feeling good on the inside first, then expressing that on the outside with what we choose to wear. We come in all shapes and sizes and are each beautiful in our own way ♡
How about getting a chubby friend to model the tummy-hiding styles? You are so trim that it’s hard to imagine realistic results. You look great in all your outfits. Great tips as always.
Great tips. You’ve offered so much more than the usual “monochromatic,” “vertical lines,” “avoid Breton tops” advice. I do have several Breton tops (marinières) and enjoy wearing them because they are classics. I also appreciate your comments regarding selecting styles and options that suit your unique self. And you are so right: we should all focus less (and worry less) about the way we look, and work more towards being the best people we can be: treating others with respect and dignity, and wearing the best accessory: a genuine smile. People who focus on the “faults” of others? If that’s the kind of person they are, then why give weight (ha!) to their opinions? People who matter don’t mind, and people who mind don’t matter! ❤️
I will add another comment about getting a bra fitting. Try different stores because different brands fit differently. I used to hate bra shopping but once I started going for fittings it makes the process so fast. They know which brands will work best for your shape. I hate the cost of Wacoal bras but have found they last longer than other brands. And they do go on sale.
I love the ruching dress. I also love the olive gathered top that gathers down vertically . Empire waists are also great. Since I can sew, this is a chance to sew some of the styles you are referring to so I don't have to depend on what is available at the stores. I recently discovered your channel, Kay and just love it. You are so elegant!
Kay, Thank you, thank you for recommending the flat-front jeans at Soft Surroundings!! I ordered the boot cut, dark wash, and I love them. They came yesterday, I tried them on, and they are perfect. They're in the wash now, must hang dry them and then they'll be good to go. They are just what I need for my apple shape - no front pockets, zipper or button that add bulk. I really appreciate your research and work to help us look better! XO
You are so great to listen to…informative and authentic, a winning combination. I wonder if you might do a similar video about fuller arms. I go all summer hiding them but think there might be better options. Thank you in advance!
I'm in your "camp," Elfriede, and dressing is a struggle during warming months when I see other gals wearing sleeveless items. No can do! Year round, I'm usually in 3/4 sleeves or sleeveless with a very light crocheted/open light-weight knit crop top. (Difficult to find!) In fall and winter, I have more options. Good luck.
@@lorettas4443 That’s what I do, too. It’s my issue because I see many other women with larger arms and they don’t seem to be bothered by it…at least they don’t feel like they need to cover up. I’m heading over to that article she gave us a link to and hope it has some advice I can use next summer. You have a great day!
For 40 years I’ve refused to go sleeveless because I didn’t like my upper arms; they looked huge to me. This year I turned 66 and I just decided I was going sleeveless this summer……and I did…..all summer. I felt really self conscious at first but then I just stopped worrying about it. Now I’m looking forward to finding cute sleeveless tops for next summer. It’s okay ladies, let’s just be what we are, no apologies!
And the right undergarments! I have found the high waisted short type underwear is great without been too confining, they are soft and comfortable. They will give you a nice shape with no underwear lines .
I am so glad I found you. I totally enjoy your tips for skin care and colors. My hair is mostly white and very short. I am very thin on top. I had problems with it for as many years as I can count. I use Rogain and it does help but I know stress is one reason. The year of Covid and my Mom slowly died , her choice. So it puts pressure on me. Now I want to get it together. And there you were. So pretty and happy. I am interested in what is going on now with it all. Thank you!! and I will keep watching. Joyce
It has been a tough year for some of us. It’s hard to get back into a happy place again. Kay has helped so much with BFMD on her blog. A treasure! Don’t look back. We can do this.
I love watching your UA-cam channel. I have developed a tummy over the past two years (quarantine weight gain) and get frustrated because the silhouettes that worked in the past don’t work anymore. This video helped me see why. Thank you.
Thanks so much, Kay! I have struggled in this area for such a looong time!😡 I had already been thinking I wanted to make a few changes in my everyday life and this year just update my wardrobe with a few pieces I personally love! I’ve decided to choose joy and embrace the gift of each today!🇱🇷✝️💕
Glad that you talk about that matter. All other fashion ladies ask us to tuck or show us a lot of beautiful belts...huuuuuu..that fits THEM, but not all of us.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. I love and show those things to. Don’t get me wrong. But I do think it’s important to share these tips so we can all feel good about how we get dressed. 💕
Excellent, excellent hints, Kay, especially the last❣️Thanks SO much! Slight tummy tucker since my teens, but moreso after 8 babies who each left baggage behind at birth!!! 🤣 Eating healthy and being active helps, too!
Hi Kay, Yes, choose joy!! Talbots has a darker wash denim skirt this season with reduced bulk in the tummy area: cue the band! 🥳 Thanks for your thoughts; extend grace to yourself that you would give others. All the best, Julie 🌷
Thanks for those good words Kay! We can get consumed with what we think are our body"s flaws instead of focusing on what is good about our bodies! Plus our bodies have taken us through lots of years!
I HATE hose puffy sleeved blouse and they are all the rage right now. With my bod type they are not for me1I like this look of the olive green with blue jeans. I have never thought of that color combo! I wear a lot of zip up vests in the cooler weather and that hides my tummy. In 2023 I bought a Lands End slightly navy blue puffer vest in a longer length= I LOVE THIS VEST!
The trick with a Breton top is finding one that is the right length. I have a great one from St John knits that has a dark navy band at the bottom. It totally camouflages my lower abs. Also because it’s a thicker knit. It just skims the midsection. With three quarter length sleeves, that also brings they eye up from that midsection.
K just found you, love your style! I’ll keep watching… you are lovely. Thanks for the tips! Previously I saw your Frumpy video… I was wearing my hair too big, I’ve paired hair down n look fresher ( easier/ faster too). You’re terrific, Your new friend Cathy in Hot ’Lanta ( ATL Georgia)
Have been watching your site for maybe six months and really enjoy them. I have just come across this one. The reason for me commenting.? I love your hair like this. Lovely in all ways; smart, classy, youthful, complimentary. Try it again maybe?
Great video! My issue my natural oversized chest! I wear a size 6 or 8 across the shoulders; however, I MUST wear a size 16 or 18 button down shirt so the girls are not playing peekaboo. I truly look like your example of wearing a top to wide/big! I only wear pull over tops and avoid anything that buttons across my bust. I also have a smaller short waist soI look dumpy no matter what! Please, anyone with an oversized bust please offer some suggestions because I know this is an issue for other women too! Thank you so much for all advice!
I don’t like the fact that the tops are TOO LONG. They should just skim your hip bone, too long make the lower body look very much bigger! Especially if you are vertically challenged.
I love your videos and get so excited to see each new one! I’m sure other ladies agree that we could and would watch you everyday if possible! 😉. Thanks Kay!
I have just come across your channel and I just love your videos. I love how you educate and also encourage!! You have a beautiful way of complimenting, encouraging and uplifting others.
It seems like it's harder to dress well at this time due to the rising costs of everything, including clothing. In my mid-forties I discovered that I had type 2 diabetes and my belly looks thred times larger than before. I haven't been able to loose the tummy, but I continue to exercise. It's hard to find attractive clothing, but most are not produced in plus sizes.😮
It’s so odd that Baby Boomers and Gen Jones women are a huge group who would love more empire waist tops and more flattering tops in general….and yet…. Some fashion designer could be making a fortune from us.
I have a very difficult time finding longer tops (like the brown one) without breaking the bank. Also, most of the styles with the ✅ are very slim people. Would like to see a little more variety in the size of women you’re referencing.
I have been looking for this information, thank you....re. pants, what about very long legs with upper tummy bulge? My inseam is that of a tall person at 32 inches near to my armpits.
I am 5’1” and 155 lbs and 71 yrs old. I absolutely hate the styles in the stores today. It is very hard to find jeans that fit me and tops … hard to find petite styles that are not for young girls and tunic tops are way too long on me. Clothes are too expensive to buy and then have them altered to fit. What is up with designers now that they make pants so dang long for short women? I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Hello lovely lady. Really enjoy your videos.Would like to say I dress with clothes I love full on colour.I dress for me not others. Thanks again Kay love from London x
I am an apple. There I said it. I carry most of my weight in my belly. In fact some of the tunic tops and empire waisted tops make me look pregnant. So I don’t know high one to try. I feel like the longer version would hit right at the widest part of my hips and the short waisted ones would emphasize the tummy. Please give me your thoughts.
Kay, I never miss any of your videos as I appreciate your style and your sweet attitude. But this video and your final tip about being positive and participating in the day really touches me. For some reason, I felt like you were speaking directly to me. I know that’s crazy as probably every other woman says the same thing. But, truly, I thank you for sharing your love of clothes, your encouragement to show up everyday and to radiate happiness and joy. By the way, I am 68 years old and still very much care about style & fashion, inner beauty & being relevant.
Very useful and well presented. I am going to keep these points in mind. I will try on some of my clothes and see what really doesn't help me look my best. I am not overweight but i have a abdomen issue which i will never be able to get rid of.
you're a font of information, and your upbeat attitude is refreshing, thank you
Thanks for watching Loretta. I’m so glad you liked it.
As a short person, I have to watch what I wear. I will have to see what I can find for vests and tunics or quilted jackets that aren't puffy.
I am doing my best to wear striking or cute items. :)
I hope that you are having a wonderful Sunday.
Last tip….Wonderful!,,,God don’t make no junk. God Bless…Merry Christmas

Ruching is wonderful..
I am on a medication that adds about 15 pounds-most all landing on my belly. It can really get me down. Your comments at the end were very encouraging. Thank you
Yummies brand underwear gives a little shaping, but are still comfy.
You have such a sweet personality, I so enjoy your videos! Great tips!!!❤️
Loved this!
Thank you
Hi Kay love your tips for tummy I have long torso would I wear a shorter top?
I loved that long shirt in the very beginning of the video! Where did you buy it?
I think this is the one you meant. rstyle.me/cz-n/fwwer9chvkf
👍🏼❤️
Really loved the last "tip" and the way you so graciously presented it, Kay. It uplifted and encouraged me ❤
Thank you Cynthia. That’s very kind. I appreciate you watching. 💕
You truly are such a joy to watch, you bring a lot of positivity to your audience. Thanks for what you are doing.

A silky cami under sweaters and tops help the top to fall smoothly. It prevents cling and bunching.
Totally agree - I wear one every day.
Great tip. Thanks for sharing. 🥰
I need suggestions on brands? Back smoothness is an issue for me but cami’s seem to make me look bigger or compact for lack of a better word.
Your final statement is beautiful. Joy, confidence and grace are the best outfit pieces we can wear as mature women. We are survivors and inspiring! Our smile and calm brings peace to our little corner of the world. Love your videos!!!
Thank you so much. Very encouraging. 😊
I absolutely hate puffer jackets

Yep! It really is amazing the difference it can make. 😊
I'm 48, 5ft 4in, 140lbs and facing similar issues. I'm tired of underwire, ill fitting bras. Would love some brand ideas. Thanks.
@@DeyaIV I can do anything for tummies but only recommend shapewear

I’m hoping the Bridgerton effect will lead to more Empire waist styles in the shop.
Yes! That would be great!

How about getting a chubby friend to model the tummy-hiding styles? You are so trim that it’s hard to imagine realistic results. You look great in all your outfits. Great tips as always.
Come on, Kay! You have NO tummy... you look amazing! In fact, you could dress much younger.
I like your channel but I wish you enlarged your example pictures by reducing your side of the screen.

While I thoroughly enjoyed your tips, you and you models are very slim. Can you use some that truly do have a tummy?
Kay, Thank you, thank you for recommending the flat-front jeans at Soft Surroundings!! I ordered the boot cut, dark wash, and I love them. They came yesterday, I tried them on, and they are perfect. They're in the wash now, must hang dry them and then they'll be good to go. They are just what I need for my apple shape - no front pockets, zipper or button that add bulk. I really appreciate your research and work to help us look better! XO
Oh that is so good to hear. I’m very glad you are pleased with them. Thanks so much for letting me know. 💕
You are so great to listen to…informative and authentic, a winning combination. I wonder if you might do a similar video about fuller arms. I go all summer hiding them but think there might be better options. Thank you in advance!
Yes, I can do that sometime I do have a blog post on that. dressedformyday.com/how-to-minimize-large-upper-arms/
Good luck.
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms wow…was this one of those « ask and you shall receive » moments? I’m heading over to that article straight away…thx!!
Thank you for putting all this wonderful and useful information into a video. "I like to get dressed for my day in a way that brings me joy", so true!
You are wonderful at what you do..God Bless
Thank you. That’s very kind. 😊
I’ve always loved the high rise pants and jeans for me… I feel low rise are great if you have no tummy so for me give me my granny pants and jeans 🤣😂
Hahaha! Well they’re very “in” right now, fortunately for all of us! 🙌🏻
I agree with your final comment. Thanks for all the great content. Blessings sue
Thanks for watching Sue. 🥰
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You give the best advice! I’m 5’7” @ 175 and 63 years old. Please keep up the excellent job!!!
I find that that "third piece" like a cardi or a vest adds a vertical to create length and take attention from the tummy area.
Kay, I don’t see a tummy. So either you’re a silly girl or you are spot on with your tips 😉
I love watching your UA-cam channel. I have developed a tummy over the past two years (quarantine weight gain) and get frustrated because the silhouettes that worked in the past don’t work anymore. This video helped me see why. Thank you.
I’m so glad to be helpful. Thanks for letting me know Darlene.
Great tips but not a fan of the vest
V-necks…fitted sleeves..yep..not too much fluff..
As always, amazing examples and suggestions Kay! 😁💛
Thank you so much!!!
Your message is on point and delightful. Dress up, show up and be up!
Thank you for the “adjusting the bra straps” tip! Needed that reminder! 🙂
Hahaha! I think most of us do. 😉
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms I had to fuss at my elderly mother last year because her bras were just shot, and not doing her any good.
Absolutely! Me too! 😊
Great energy. Love the message at 21:23. You're really lovely.
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms 🤩👍
Excellent, excellent hints, Kay, especially the last❣️Thanks SO much! Slight tummy tucker since my teens, but moreso after 8 babies who each left baggage behind at birth!!! 🤣 Eating healthy and being active helps, too!
Absolutely! There’s no substitute for just good healthy choices. Thanks for watching Kathy. 😊
Thank You! Look great in the green top.
Thanks. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
Such a great video Kay! And, I love your philosophy about wearing clothes that give us that joy and radiance. Well said!
Hi Kay, Yes, choose joy!! Talbots has a darker wash denim skirt this season with reduced bulk in the tummy area: cue the band! 🥳 Thanks for your thoughts; extend grace to yourself that you would give others. All the best, Julie 🌷
Wonderful! I hadn’t seen it. Thanks for sharing. And thanks for your kind comments. 💕
Great tips, loved the visuals, helps tremendously when shopping for tops, pants and dresses for my type of body types.
Wonderful to hear. Thanks so much for watching Nia. 🥰
You’re terrific,
Your new friend Cathy in Hot ’Lanta ( ATL Georgia)
You closed this video beautifully. Thank you
I have been looking for this information, thank you....re. pants, what about very long legs with upper tummy bulge? My inseam is that of a tall person at 32 inches near to my armpits.
I am 5’1” and 155 lbs and 71 yrs old. I absolutely hate the styles in the stores today. It is very hard to find jeans that fit me and tops … hard to find petite styles that are not for young girls and tunic tops are way too long on me. Clothes are too expensive to buy and then have them altered to fit. What is up with designers now that they make pants so dang long for short women? I’m sure I’m not the only one.
I have always liked high rise jeans.
Thk u Kay for such an important topic that suit me fine. I do like to conceal my tummy area!!
I adore your beautiful tassle necklace. May I ask where you purchased it? Thank you for your videos. They are very interesting and fun to watch.
That olive top really suits you!
The short black west is the best 👏👏👏🤩🤩🤩 Much better than the camel brown west 😬😬😬 L💖ve your videos by the way 💥👍😘
Thanks so much Henriette. 💕
This is super lovely, especially the last insight. Thank you Kay. 💖
That is funny; this is for people that have money to buy clothes... could you please return to step 1) Where to get the money for clothes.
Very useful and well presented. I am going to keep these points in mind. I will try on some of my clothes and see what really doesn't help me look my best. I am not overweight but i have a abdomen issue which i will never be able to get rid of.
Kay, I'm 43 and I love you and your positive nature. Thank you for the tips..... under 50 crowd loves you too!
Sorry, but your models are sooo slim, no tummies, I kinda look 5 months pregnant, and the tips would make me look abut to give birth !!
Love this video, great looks and great tips! Always look forward to your videos!💙
