  • The Quality Improvement Project is an essential part of your portfolio and can lead to wealth of opportunities!
For a start, it can allow you to really demonstrate yourself as a doctor and how you integrate and interact with a team. This can be essential to help with your following job applications.
So the big questions of what to do it on?
Some really good ideas from this resource as well:
RCGP WBPA, scroll down to QIPs - www.rcgp.org.uk/mrcgp-exams/w...
    www.yorksandhumberdeanery.nhs...
    BMJ QIP ideas - www.bmj.com/careers/article/t...
Bradford VTS is always a good resource - www.bradfordvts.co.uk/quality...
Regardless of your idea, make sure you keep it SMART! Specific, Meassurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timeframe. Whatever project you have, having some data that you can EASILY meassure will make your overall project easier.
Driver diagrams are a really good way to demonstrate your thought process and so would definetly get your thoughts written down on paper first with someone to talk it through. For the best results, I would suggest that you chat this through with someone as well so that you can bounce ideas on.
Once you are happy, then make sure you convert this to an electronic format. This link can help to create your own: online.visual-paradigm.com/di...
Your driver diagram is likely to be BIG and this is too much to do. Pick SOME of the change ideas to then turn into your intervention. These will then feed into your PDSA cycles. PDSA stands for 'Plan', 'Do', 'Study' and 'Act'. Hopefully after each intervention you will have an improvement in your data.
    Write up:
Make sure that you use a copy of the front cover: www.rcgp.org.uk/getmedia/bb04...
Then I used a simple category of the following sections:
    Front cover
    Marking sheet (as above)
    Introduction
    Aim
    Explanation of choice
    Baseline data
    Driver diagram
PDSA Cycle 1 including subsequent data collection
PDSA Cycle 2 including subsequent data collection
PDSA Cycle 3 including subsequent data collection
    Staff feedback
    Patient feedback
    Summary of change
    What have you learnt
    Future development
Very best of luck for your QIP!

I apologise for that, just trying to make the video a bit more interesting!
