    It is so exciting what you’re creating here. Minecraft aimed to make a ‘realistic’ word using blocks. But because of the 4d nature of this game you’re creating never before seen stuff rather than trying to make the real world blocky. The ice update is genius

      I'm pretty sure Good Luck meant, is that the design of minecraft is somewhat held back by its attempt to emulate reality, and lack of originality.
      there is a world with biomes, plants and creatures, etc. one of the few unique mobs is the shulker, almost everything else is clearly inspired by something else with little revision other than the imposed limitations of the game design.

      @@eatabanana2258 So are you saying that minecraft is limited? Are you saying games like fortnite are quote on quote life like? Minecraft is original, and what about all the mods that people have made? Does that not count to how “original” the game is? What about all the other unique parts of the game that are not realistic like how most blocks don’t have gravity, what about the end and the nether which are two fictional dimensions. Minecraft never tried to emulate reality and it doesn’t emulate it at all. It’s not limited as there are tons of fan made mods which alter the code of the game. People have also made massive structures inside the game as well, which are all unique in design. What do you mean one of the “few unique”, there are tons here are a couple: Strider, Enderman, Shulkers, The Enderdragon, Piglins, The Wither, Ghasts and there’s more unique mobs. Minecraft has and always had unlimited possibilities, the game never tried to fabricate or emulate reality and hasn’t done that and there’s plenty of unique mobs in the game.

    For those wondering, he said on his discord recently that he's working on multiplayer, and it seems to be almost done. Seems like it'll only be available to patrons though for now.
    Not sure why he's not updating people about it on the channel... I almost forgot about this game.

    It would be cool if there was something like a solenoid placer. It places the amount of blocks require to fill of a space in every angle of the 4th dimension.

      That would just make the building system the same as minecraft. If you can break and place blocks in every slice simultaneously, you get what is effectively a 3d build. Cool idea, I just think it would make the game less unique.

      @@sexman9534 I don't think it make it less unique, you still have the option to choose if you want to fill all the slices or not, which make interesting buildings geometry, but you need at least 1 layer of full walls to build a safe house

      @@sexman9534 the thing is, sometimes you need to compromise between uniqueness and convinience.
      Sure placing every block by hand may be cool for some. But i think most people would get annoyed rather quick if they have to do it every time.
      i think a solenoid placer like described satisfies both playertypes. those who want to place by hand can do that while others can use the placer for convenience.
      4D miner is unique enough beeing 4D to be honest. but thats just my opinion.

      In 2d, 5 x 5 is 25.
      In 3d, 5 x 5 x 5 is 125.
      In 4d, 5 x 5 x 5 x 5 is 625.
      It would take *a lot* of time to build without more help.

    This update looks amazing. An idea you could make is a weather system that adds snowstorms, thunderstorms and sandstorms that can push you in the all 4 dimensions. (Because of the wind)

      How about in the snow or sand biome with added blocks like quick sand that work similar to powdered snow in minecraft. And an Item like special Boots that have a 4d material on the bottom, that prevents the player from dying/getting stuck.

      @@cyberneticsquid 4^4 is 256. Idk why developer went with 4096, but 4^4 is the 4d volume of a 4×4×4×4 cube, just like 4^3 is the 3d volume of a 4×4×4 cube

      @@equenos the significance of 64 is that it is both a square number and a cube number. 256 wouldn't have that property but 4096 does. in addition to 8^4 it can be represented as 16^3 or 64^2.

    What if you make the crafting interfaces 3d so if you add something like a 4d crafting table, you get a cube as crafting field in comparison to mc with a 3d block and 2d ui. This way you would need more materials wich is probably a good thing since currently u can get things pretty easily. And with the new hammer and “magnet” u can get a lot of blocks really quickly since like you explained in your video 4 structure’s need more blocks. So it would make sense if crafting recipes also need more items. It would also fit in pretty well with the world being one dimension higher as well as the stack size being 64^2. So the crafting recipe being one dimension more would imo make perfect sense. Though implementing a 3d ui could be tricky.

      If this game will be playable in VR, then there would likely be no problem with 3d inventory and crafting. In VR, perhaps it would even feel more intuitive

      @@Hlebuw3k I agree. Though you could also create an intuitive 3x3x3 crafting system by filling out three 2D slices of the recipe stacked onto each other. Kind of like layering the segments of a tiered cake or a cast mould.
      That said, part of the appeal of Minecraft's crafting was the ability to easily experiment with the system and develop an intuition for some of the recipes. 3D recipes would likely need to be limited in their complexity, and stick to some recognisable recipe patterns if the intent is for the player to actually fill them in manually.

    Maybe you could add some sort of mineshaft or dungeon which has chests and hyperspider spawners scattered throughout the 4th dimension and doors that can only be opened in a certain slice. That could be a bit too ambitious though

      nah thats pretty easy as it just be a bunch a hyper cube holes in the terrain with 90 degree turns and spawners and all that
      though he would have to add a structure generator to the game first (and hopefully its one thats more modular and modifiable then minecrafts Cx)

      I feel like the game is supposed to get that “otherworldly “ planet feel and as an alien p,anet that probably wouldnt fit that well unless 4d miner expands its lore which im sure they will do at somepoint but just not in that way

    I love the way you think when it comes to new ideas for your game. Solenoid ore has such a quirky ring to it. It's clever, non-generic, and bends the 'rules' in a neat way.
    It's a breath of fresh air to see this type of outside-the-box thinking when so many people get caught up in established clichés. The 4D butterflies and the midnight biome are great ideas too.

      I like the solenoid collector, but tbh, solenoid ore and solenoid bars sound cringe to me. Calling it magnetic ore would be better in that case, but I think solenoid ore should be renamed to magnetite (a real ore of iron) or some other realistic thing or be fully fictional.
      Calling it solenoid ore means to me that it can only be used to make solenoids, which is pretty dumb. And solenoid bars should just be called solenoids, or iron bars, depending on what they more accurately represent.

The way this game interacts with the fourth dimensions makes it so you have to think about how you are going to create building and collect resources! It is so very interesting and I can't wait to see where it goes!!!!

      Haven't finished watching the video yet, but I find it interesting that it's basically the Minecraft's stack size to the power of two, which makes sense because this is one dimension higher. I love that detail!

      but remember you have like 4 times the distance to build and i was here mintally trying ot think of HOW many blocks you have to nuke in order to both fit and make a mega base of minecraft vanilla but in this game. im already seeing milions of blocks from excavation ALONE!

    How about a block that when you step on it/it gets activated you get sent to a specific, by the player pre determined slice of the 4d world. This would make it easier to build a 4d house with 1 door, and not having to search for it. Instead you just click the Block (or walk over it) wich either just exists in every slice or you place in multiple locations/slices to get to the one you want to.

      Plates will definitely be exploited for mob traps, imagine making a 3d pit covered with plates on the bottom, so every mob remains in this slice and can't escape. Making a clickable block is better I think

      @@ghostwatcher idk how much sense it'd make for it to exist in all slices of the 4d world, since that means it's basically taking up multiple blocks of space in that extra direction. kinda like a single block actually being 3(/4/however many idk) blocks tall in a 3d game.
      not completely unreasonable, mind you, but a bit odd i guess. i'm not opposed to the general idea of the block otherwise tho

      Changing what slice you are looking in doesn’t make you move though, it just changes what you see. So changing your slice direction shouldn’t ever make you fall.

      @@drdca8263 not exactly. You are only 3 dimensional, so you kind of move yourself through 3 dimensional slices of a 4 dimensional space. So you can move yourself into the slice with a hole.

      @@Irithind I may have been unclear. Of course when moving perpendicular to a particular slice, one changes what slice one is in.
      But when simply moving the mouse and mouse wheel, this should only change what slice you are viewing, and should have no impact on collisions.
      Unless I guess if the player model is only 3D and rotates in the 4D space when looking around? But I don’t think that’s what this game does, is it? I could be wrong there.

    Would be cool if there'd be a faster way to rotate in 4D than the scroll wheel. Maybe like holding a key and then moving the mouse or something, or simply two keys like Q and E to rotate 4D-left and 4D-right. Thanks for the update, looking forward to more.

    I can't wait to see where it ends up, I would love it if one day it got as much content as 3D minecraft, where the game itself isnt just a gimmick, but an actual full game with tons of content that plays off the 4 dimension ideas

    Hostile creature idea: HyperSludge
    Appears more frequently in caves, appears to be a large hunk of 4D sludge with the middle standing upright. They have more health and deal more damage than hyperspiders and drop ‘HyperGoo’. This hypergoo can be used to repair broken tools and craft a new item called a ‘Stick Trap’. The stick trap can stick creatures (including you) in place if they walk over it.

    A tool to make building walls way less of a chore and no filled with holes like a swiss cheese would be a sort of lline drawer, you place a block at coordinate x and you place a block at coordinate y and it fill every block in between.
    Would be quite simple if it's a straight line along the 4th plane, btu I guess a bit more challenging for anything slightly angled

    4D Miner is a pioneer in a new field of 4-dimensional sandbox games. Here are a few ideas that might add openness to 4D Miner:
    1. A configurable hyperplane display mode. We know that 4D Miner displays the 4-dimensional world in a 3-dimensional slice. The three visible dimensions can be "xyz", "xyw" or "yzw", but what if it is "xzw"? Without considering "gravity", the four spatial dimensions of x,y,z and w could be equal, which can give us a new perspective to observe the 4-dimensional world. By analogy with the 2-dimensional "contour map", we can imagine how explorable and interesting the 4-dimensional world in the perspective of "xzw" vision is.
    2. More dimensions with gravity. Like the gravity mechanics in Minecraft, 4D Miner has gravity on the Y-axis, which fits in with the reality of "gravity in only one dimension." But on the other hand, the "ground" in reality is 2-dimensional, so if we retain this property in a 4-dimensional world, we can have a "2d gravity" world - the ground is still 2-dimensional, but there are two dimensions of the sky.
    Even though these ideas don't always fit with our experience in 3D, but considering the huge community in the future, perhaps the openness it gives 4D Miner will greatly improve the overall playability of the game.

    Idea: When you first spawn into a world, it appears completely cubic like minecraft. It would be cool to have an item that could get you back to that state easily at any time, sort of like an interdimensional realigner or something. That way people who simply want to make nice looking buildings in a cubic minecraft style could always go back to the same perspective and not accidentally ruin their builds by scrolling and not being able to return to the exact same plane. Get what I mean?

    I can't remember if this is already a feature, but I think it would be interesting if when interacting with 4d entities you were pushed along the w axis, which could make them even more dangerous in precarious situations

    I see that it follows the Terraria crafting system, if you don't have the materials, it doesn't show up in the craft menu, though I think an optional recipe browser might be nice in the future.

    To further aid in performance, you could add something many popular games have that minecraft for whatever reason doesn't have: Lower quality the further you are from an area, because if you're looking at a mountain in real life, you're not gonna see a camp set up near the top, or a guitar pick on the other side of a football field (minecraft has implemented it partially, but only in terms of textures, not polygons (which minecraft uses apparently))

      If you're talking about mipmapping, it's not helping performance much with 16x16 textures 😅 (the textures would be cached anyway).
      And it's amazingly easy to enable in OpenGL :)

      Since August 31st of 2022 there has been (copied from discord):
      - Improved chunk loading
      - Improved mesh generation to fix some ugly lighting artifacts
      - Fixed some shader issues
      - The fix (hopefully) resolves an issue with some Intel GPUs
      - Added a **post-processing shader**!
      - Anyone can modify this shader to create cool effects
      - Fixed a physics issue that occasionally made the game freeze
      - Chests no longer behave like trash cans (the items used to get deleted)
      - Fixed a chunk-loading bug that caused the game to crash
      - Fixed several issues with the lava at the bottom of the world
      - You can no longer mine it or place on it
      - Your screen will be covered by a lava texture when you fall out of the world
      - Items thrown into the lava/void will now be deleted (they used to just fall forever)
      - Spiders now only drop one hypersilk
      - Butterflies are much less common, but they have a much larger hitbox
      - Fixed the visuals when your head gets stuck/clips inside of a block
      - Removed the crash reporter because it was cringe
      - Completely overhauled the biome system!
      - Biomes now generate based on temperature and moisture, which makes their placement much more natural
      - Biomes are all configured in the biomeInfo.json file, which anyone can modify to create their own custom biomes!
      - New world generation settings!
      - Biome size
      - Terrain amplification
      - Disable cave generation (makes terrain generate much faster)
      - Added the *snowy taiga biome*!
      - Introduces a new block and tree type!
      - Strafing through chunk borders is now fixed
      - Added a new way of looking around in 4D!
      - You can look in 4D without scrolling by holding the middle mouse button or the M key while moving the mouse
      - Vertical mouse movement rotates along the ZW plane (same as scrolling)
      - Horizontal mouse movement rotates along the XW plane, which is a totally new way to look around in 4D Miner!
      - Major bug fix that stops unnecessary chunks from loading
      - Sometimes dozens of extra chunks would load that weren't supposed to
      - The fix considerably improves performance
      - This bug has been driving be insane since before I even announced 4DM, so I'm really happy to have finally fixed it!
      - Flat worlds will now generate with chests full of every block/item at spawn
      - The world lighting now becomes dark at night (I know, really spooky)
      - Glowing objects like flowers and jack o'lanterns appear brighter at night as a result!
      - Added *pumpkins* and *jack o'lanterns*! 🎃
      - Pumpkins can be found in the green biome
      - Jack o'lanterns can be crafted with a pumpkin and a red flower
      - Sun and moon have been completely remodeled and retextured
      - They now have proper 3D textures, and they fit the style of the game better
      - Added a new song, *The Quantum Winter* by Orionjustmelted!
      - Various bug fixes and other minor changes
      - Fixed an annoying lighting artifact at chunk borders, which was most noticeable in flat worlds
      From December 2022- late march 2023, work on myltiplayer. Functional at announcement but still being tested
      - 3d Character skins (they have to be 3d so you can see inside them)

      @@ultraprincesskenny6790 thanks, i already found about multiplayer in another comment although thought that was it, i know it's a pain to do, I struggled with it for like half a week for my Minecraft clone(accounting code reuse from previous pain), even perlin noise took just a few hours, although multiplayer due to game not being on steam and have potentially shared multiplayer world and due to free addon (Photon) it's just up to 20 players at a time in the whole game

    It'd be cool to have a dangerous enemy that is another 3D entity, like the player, but it doesn't have the ability to change its slice. So it does a lot of damage and moves pretty fast, but you can escape it by scrolling.

      Update from dev from discord, "Unfortunately, the video on 4D Miner multiplayer is going to take longer to make than I expected. It turns out I have to move right now, which means I don't currently have enough time to give the video my full attention. I am very glad that I was able to release multiplayer on Patreon before this happened, and I will do whatever I can to make sure 4d4t is running smoothly throughout this whole process. I will probably still have enough time to release a few minor updates to the game (mostly bug fixes), and I will try to work on the video whenever I can. I want to be more up front with all of you when it comes to development stuff, and I really appreciate all of you support. Thank you all for your patience."

    I feel like the crafting recipe for the 4D Glasses needs reworking because with them it's about a thousand times easier to see the 4D butterflies. It feels like a paradoxical item where it is the tool used to create itself.

    I really like this new update. One concern I have though is that I feel like a lot of the tool models are inconsistent. I feel like if the hammer and pickaxes had the same style as the ultra hammer where it is blocky and not polygonal. Obviously, this isn't a full release and is not important but I feel like it doesn't fit with the style well. The same sorta thing goes with the 4D Spider.

    Suggestion: a button that allines your slice of the world in a way that makes 4d cubes look like a 3d cube instead of a weird shape. In my opinion this not only feels much more satisfying but also makes player feel at home when playing your game.

      It's already in the game, you can press ctrl+xw, ctrl+xz, or ctrl+zw to line yourself up with any of those axis, which makes the blocks look like 3d

      it seems cool at first but implementing it is hard especially when water can flow 'into' the 4th dimension and how that would be represented and also the renderer would need another change to support simi transparency and all the headaches that entails
      also pleas dont call it hyper water lets just call it water
      as the more hyper-this and hyper-that things become the more tiresome it becoms to say and also just is kinda boring
