- Here I show you step by step the easiest way to do plugs and wires on any late 90s early 2000s GM 2200 4cyl engine. This is how to do a tune up on an s10, Sonoma, and any other Chevy, Gmc, or other GM vehicles with the 2.2 liter or 2200 4 cyl engine.
Man never, never get underneath a truck without jack stands. You must never depend on any type jack at any given day or time..
Damn, dude...aside from the compressor/alternator mixup...there’s an access flap behind the passenger front wheel that opens up right to the coil packs. No need to get under the truck how you did.
This is how every video should be. Informative, humerous, and straight to the point!
Very helpful video and a big mahalo for taking the time to do it! The part of your video that really helped me out was taping the wires together and having them set in the wire loom beforehand, I didn't have to use a rope to route the wires on the install as the taped wires were like a stick that I was able push up behind the alternator and grab and pull from above by hand. I would like to add if I may for others doing this job, if you push back the mud guard flap of the passenger side inner fender well the coil pack is easily accessible with the cylinder numbers clearly marked on the coils - no need to jack up your truck or remove your tire either.
Thanks for the video! I just changed the plugs and wires on my son’s 2003 Sonoma and I used your tip for pulling the wires through with a piece of twine. To make it easier, I did remove the front wheel. Instead of using duct tape to bind the wires, I used zip ties. Great video!
glad you made it out from underneath the truck with no stands...you definitely have more faith in a jack then most but thats the beauty of us all being our own person. all in all it was a great video man thanks for taking the time to make it for us itll definitely make my project go that much smoother
Excellent video! Thank you very much! You have helped a dude in vegas tackle this crazy job.
Great video man, I was really confused about where the wires ran through and were the location on the bottom was, and your video really covered it great! Thanks!
Thank you for posting the video, it made working on my son's 2.2 S-10 much easier.
How long did you take ?
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I was lost before this video.
Well done, Sir.
This was very helpful, particularly the old native american trick with the rope. Good work!
I will be doing my GMC as soon as weather cooperates! Thanks for all the tips!!!
I only look at your show because you are pretty and smart and talented and you got a hamburger thanks for your shows
very helpful much appreciated! 1999 GMC sonoma 2.2l 4 cyl now has a complete tune up
Your video was very helpful after watching a prior video of a person pulling the wires in reverse from the bottom to the top. That seemed too difficult especially with the 90 degree boots at the ignition coil end. Used the string method with electrical and duct tape to taper the spark plug boots. Also marked the wires using a fine point Sharpie. Removed one good set from a wrecked 2000 S10 w/ AC and snaked them ever so easily (took like 3 minutes at best) up to the top of an identical 2nd 2000 S10 w/ no AC. I did the remove passenger wheel and access the boot connections thru the wheel well flap. Extremely fast and simple. Finished the top end by wiping the grease off the wires and boots with Dawn dish soap on a paper towel. Still retained the Sharpie marks for which cylinder they went to. Next project will be to move the AC system to the running truck.
thank you for your help I got my Sonoma done because of you lol
Just what I was looking for, thanks.
S10 great trucks, now I know how to do a tune up thanks
I really liked your video, it helped me get the job done faster, thanks
How long did you take to all done?
awesome now that I subscribed and like that video that's is my thank u for u guys that make my life easier on doing a tuneup on my 1998 gmc sonoma ...
great vid thanks for making this process a breeze! :)
never get under a vehicle without it being on jack stands
I love your personality I subbed
great video.very helpful
thanks for making this video!!!! your saving me some money!!
great job very informative
Sweet!!! Thanks!
thanks for the video it was awesome n helpful
Just finished changing wires and plugs on my 99 S-10. I utilized your method: tying a string, labeling the old and new wires, cutting the plugs off, and taping the mass of wires together to snake it back up. Made this really not too difficult. I jacked up the passenger side slightly, and that made enough space to access the coil packs by just reaching under the wheel well. Really wasn't bad! Kinda impressed with myself. Heh.
How long did you take to complete the job?
Thanks !! I needed the coils wiring order.1432
Really glad my neighbor had a huge garage/shop with a lift lol
Thanks man!
I was lost on it. But now I'm take on the job tnks
This a great video. Thanks It is very simple if you jack up the passenger side and remove the wheel The ignition coil is right behind the flap. 7/32 take off the coil bolts with two long extensions. Rerouting the wires is the biggest pain of the job.

thanks
Good video! Helped me tackle the spark plugs and wires. Well done.
You don't need to get under the truck. In the wheel well of the passenger side, behind the tire, is a flap, lift the flap and you can see where the plugs go. Reach right in there, no problem!
very informative thanks ! i have a 2002 gmc Sonoma 2.2. Installed front brakes, shocks, and oil change this past weekend. plan on doing plugs, wires and rear brakes soon ! BTW my Sonoma has 321000 miles !
on original engine?
yes sir it is !
Riverside Country Club awesome! What oil have you been using?
@@riversidecountryclub2211 how long did you take to change spark plugs and wires?
VERY INFORMATIVE, Mistakes and all,, Heck I rather learn by Your mistakes than my own. The peanut gallery smoothed over any bumps and distractions along the way.
I think on those you can take the front wheel off and access the wires through the rubber patch behind the wheel on the inner fender. You don't have to crawl under the truck..
i like the video need more vidoes on 95 gmc sonoma
I'll let you know in about 1,900 miles. My 2001 S-10 has about 98,100 on it so when it rolls over to 100,000 I'll be doing my 100,000 mile maintenance (tune up, fuel filter change, etc.) Just getting all the information I can and thanks, this will help a ton!
Dude, do you have a video on how to replace the A.C. compressor & system?
GREAT JOB DISCIPLE ! I ADDED A REPLY ON JACOB STAMMER'S POST . THANKS AGAIN .
Very informative. I got the general idea. You need to stress SAFETY!! Do not get under a vehicle on a floor jack without a jack stand on either side of the jack, and preferably on the frame on each side.
🙃GRACIAS
👑AMIGO
✌️💯
My hubby thanks you!
Getting those wires through the hole is a pain in the ass, but other than that it wasnt too bad. I have 99 S10 2.2, engine looks almost identical to yours. It took about 90mins all
together, Thanks for the video
You meant 90 min for replace spark plugs and wires?
@@DavidHernandez-ue4fz yes
@@toddstewart9070 great, I guess I would do it today
You're scaring me being under there without a jack stand.
i found cranking the the wheels to the left you can access the coil packs without getting under, but to each their own.
I have a 97, Its a lot easier to reach behind the wheel or remove it completly, there is a flap right there that gives you direct access to the coil packs Just a FYI man. i was looking to see how the hard the rear plug was to get to, im about to tackle this on mine.
dude good job on this i dont like videos and you got a thumbs up from me i honestly only needed to know what I needed to pull to get to the spark plugs and wires butt I ended up watching it three quarters of the way for no apparent reason other than I was actually entertained again good job butt if you're going to keep doing this in the future go out and get a GoPro
Easier to just remove be the front wheel to get to the coils
Oh snap! Jack stands man!
you can use white out to put dots on the replacement wires boots to mark which number they are.
That is not an alternator on top! LOL!
chad millett I thought the same thing haha it’s an a/c compressor
If you jack up the body on the passenger side (don't need to remove wheel) you can get to the wires a lot easier. I tried from under the truck and couldn't get them loose. Wheel well is easy and you can see the firing order also...
I taped them together as shown on the video. But now i cant get them back up to the top of the engine to plug them in.
That reminds me, I need to get some antifreeze for my sonoma.
Only thing that would have made it easier for me is if you came and did it for me. 😊
Good video but I would use a little safety when jacking vehicle up. Use jack stands for added safety., that is a very dangerous thing to do, crawl under it with out them. Other than that, good informative video. Thanks :o)
Please tell me if R43TS AC PLugs will work in a 2001 S10 2.2ltr engine
Acdelco 41 948 I know will
Autolite in a GM Product?
Uh....When did the look of an alternator change, when did it get large hoses?
Doing this same job now and i cant seem to get the wires fished behind the alternator. PLEASE HELP!
Fish one wire at a time..
No Jack stands?
No jack stands?
Umm.. Why did you disconnect the compressor clutch lead...
I'm about to have to do this and I think I'd rather take an ass whipping
It helped, but you didn't cover where the wires go to cool packs
Is everyone trying to keep the proper spark plug gap for the 2.2 a secret? I've watched literally 6 videos and not one of y'all gave the proper gap
That is the biggest alternator I have ever seen! Just kidding.... sorry for being a troll a**! Yeah, that's the AC compressor. If you don't have working AC, I suggest getting that compressor taken off and having the smaller bypass belt put on. You can work on that side of the motor easier if that damn thing is gone! You can get to the #1 and #2 plugs with the compressor in the way.....O.K. But, I had one of the bolts come loose on the exhaust manifold. That is a b*** to get to with that compressor in the way.
i noticed the native american string trick didnt work
JACK STANDS OR RAMPS!!!!!!
8:45 DUDE, I did not see you put any jack stands under the car. I do not care how often this has worked out for people. It's that one time
when it doesn't and you are dead. Being crushed sucks so I hear. AND, it happens. Don't trust the lift.
qoyy
You dont know what the hell you are doing.
Lmao ac comp is the part you remove not the alternator
Huh! Great to show how to do it, but the video jumpiness made me have to stop watching. It was making me seasick. I'm gonna go throw up now.
Waste of my time. What is the gap on the plugs for this engine?
Too much extra BS. Cut the small talk, and get on with the task at hand. Forget the TV, and light, and cuts, etc. Good information, but not very professional.
