After my school year is over, I decided I’m gonna play Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition this summer, and after watching this video, I’m even more excited to play it!
It’s not needing a “high iq to enjoy”, you get a high IQ from enjoying it. Because it takes that deep and strange philosophy then applies it to be more relatable. And some of its sci-fi concepts are strangely accurate. Something nearing the end of Xenoblade 2 there is something that is physically possible to construct.
I always describe Xenoblade as Nintendo's Final Fantasy. Each game is connected thematically, with stories and worlds that are almost entirely unrelated to one another. The same merchant race throughout. Some character names and archetypes repeated in each. I think it's pretty neat c:
@John DeJean It probably helps that Monolith Soft was literally founded by former Square-Enix employees. (Back then, Square-Enix was two separate companies, Square and Enix. And the two wouldn't become Square-Enix until around the release of the first Xenosaga game.)
I literally beat Xenoblade Chronicles: Definition Edition a few days ago and I’m close to finishing Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Both are such amazing games! Xeno’s right. If you like Zelda, you’ll definitely like Xenoblade Chronicles!
the Xeno series from Monolith Soft are one of the best games i have ever played, the only modern ones (apart legend of heroes) that stand at the same level as the final fantasys of sakaguchis era at Square (FF6-10)
The voice acting in these games. My gosh Shulks VA Addam Howden NAILED it HARD straight into you freaking HEART. Rex’s va does get a lot of backlash for being bad at voice acting but it’s only at the beginning of xenoblade2 and he gets MUCH better as time goes on.
I agree that the line between genres is getting blurred. Zelda has added more rpg elements and the Xeno series has become more action/adventure oriented since it became Xenoblade. Before 2012, Zelda was my favourite franchise ever and it wasn’t even close. Today the two occupy the same place in my heart. I remember going to Gamestop in April of 2012. The employees didn’t know much about Xenoblade, and I didn’t either. A Nintendo game with a sword sticking out of the ground? I took it home, put it in my system and was greeted with a soundtrack that left goosebumps. There are no soundtracks in gaming that convey emotion better than Xenoblade’s. The opening cutscene gives a 2 second tutorial before you are thrust onto the battlefield in a war between the Homs and Mechons, then the camera pans out and you see the full scope of the world that you will be exploring. This is action/adventure at it’s finest with unbelievable story telling. I didn’t think it was possible for a game to look so epic in 480p, but that prison island cutscene was the best and stepping onto the Bionis leg for the first time conjured up memories of stepping onto Hyrule field in Ocarina of Time. This is the game that Nintendo should have been promoting alongside Skyward Sword.
Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition actually passed up Breath of the Wild as my favorite game of all time so I can definitely confirm that other Legend of Zelda fans will love it!
After BOTW, I debated what game I should get on my Switch. I ended up blindly picking up Xenoblade 2 over Mario Odyssey and a few other games and it became one of my favorite games of all time. This series is truly fascinating and the music and environments are incredible! So glad Monolith helped shape the world of BOTW and will be helping on the sequel too! My recommended play order for JRPG fans: 1>2>Torna>X/Gears/Saga. However, Torna is the best first game for newcomers who are hesitant on large scale JRPGs as it streamlines gameplay mechanics and is only ~15-20 hours.
this year i finally got a copy of xenoblade chronicles 2 and let me tell you, i really enjoyed the game despite the fact that i never played a xenoblade game or xeno saga before.
Glad to see the Xenoblade fan recruitment drive is performing well. And yes, Xenoblade Chronicles X is probably the last remaining reason to get a Wii U.
As someone who started out as a Zelda-fan and has now fully transitioned to aa Xenoblade-fan (I still love Zelda, though!), I wholeheartedly agree with this video. :]
I’ve never played Xenoblade Chronicles, but I’ve been interested because of you since shortly after I found your channel. Just haven’t had the chance to purchase any of the games yet! Can’t wait to do it, though! As for the LoZ series, it’s now tied (if not surpassing) Pokémon as my favorite game series to play!! Breath of the Wild was my introduction to the Legend of Zelda series, as well as open world RPG’s! I can’t wait to experience more!! This game has literally changed my life!! Love what you do and I love your channel, Xeno!! Keep up the amazing work, Godslayer!
I really liked the way this video was not scripted. It’s nice to listen to you gushing about your favorite games. Xenoblade and zelda are both incredible
A couple years ago, I never heard about Xenoblade except for maybe hearing the name in Smash DLC hopes videos, but one day the name randomly popped into my head out of nowhere, so I ended up buying and playing Xenoblade 2, and it ended up becoming my number 1 favorite game of all time and it was one of the only games I had a ton of fun and was fully invested all the way through. Torna was also crazy, Xenoblade DE and FC were also really good. Now I just need to play X
Thank you for creating this video. Xenoblade holds such a deep and personal place in my heart, it pulled me out of reality when I was suffering from a lot of at home abuse at a younger age. It helped me through hardships, when I just needed an escape out of my reality and into one filled with one of the most beautifully crafted worlds and stories I have ever come across. Its even why I use the name Monado, it means that much to me.
Super interesting topic for a video! I always love comparing and contrasting two different video game franchises. I absolutely adore Zelda, and I recently started playing Xenoblade Chronicles X and I've really been blown away by it. I'm excited to play more, and I'll probably play Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition after that, the sequel doesn't appeal too much to me. Great video!
I wish I had the time in my days to play as much as I used to. I've bought both Xenoblade 1 & 2, but I never have time to sit and play. X was great, and what made me interested in the series. The Switch just has too many good games. I've got like 30 I haven't even opened yet. 😭
I loved Xenoblade Chronicles X so much I had a hard time getting into the most recent Xenoblade game for switch. I’ll give it a try again. X didn’t grab me right away either and I loved it as my first introduction to these games.
Don't forget where it _all_ began: Xenogears. Hell, just watched a deep dive video explaining the _opening._ 20+ years later, and I never realized that two major iconic locations in the game (the Tower of Babel & Fort Jasper) are straight out of the opening. The third location was pretty obvious.
I remember saying Xenoblade was basically if OOT stayed true to the Zelda series in creating a 3D version. I stand by it even more now that Monolith applied their exploratory-adventure extpertise back to the series and recaptured what makes a Zelda game truly a Zelda game. (Even though MM and WW tried to take steps back toward the series roots which is part of why they are usually considered better than OOT, TP or SS.)
Xenoblade as a series, even just Xeno as a series is something I can talk about for hours and hours. It's a game I will always recommend to people interested or fans of Rpg/Adventure games. Even when you finish the game, if you're interested, there is a lot of lore that just makes be all the more fall in love with this series.
I'm a diehard Zelda fan, and I've just finished Xenoblade, Definitive Edition for the first time... and I absolutely loved it! Incredible franchise, I've just started Xenoblade 2 now. Totally second this, you won't regret it!
I wish we had some Xenoblade 3 content after you made this video. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 legit became my 5th favourite game of all time, while I like the villains of Xenoblade 1 more and only now have been playing 2 and people have said its villains are better. I just love the main cast of 3 more than even 1 which really says something as I’m the kind of guy who liked Riki the most in 1 as I saw everyone as wonderful but me often liking the wise therapist party member loved Riki as fitting that archetype Uncle Iroh plays in Avatar. But Sena in 3, she’s just like me fr fr; her character and the arc she goes through struck personally as an autistic person, not saying she has to be but from her mannerisms in speech to her reaction to a certain Ch 7 Hero Quest feeling like a ASD shutdown. And also Eunie, she’s just a treat whenever she opens her mouth and says a urban Londoner tomboy funny. Also yes, it has that enigmatic adventure feel of course.
I'm usually reluctant to try games outside of franchises like Zelda and Mario. But I decided to try Xenoblade Chronicles DE based on this video, and while I don't think I would rank it up with Zelda, I am finding it enjoyable. While I don't fully understand the combat, at least it's not turn based. I was surprised to see it has an area that looks just like Hyrule Ridge with all those giant golf tee shaped trees. Also, I would recommend Oceanhorn to people who like Zelda.
I’ve always said that anyone who likes Twilight Princess should play Xenoblade Chronicles, specifically the first one. The story structure and overall “values” of each game match immaculately! I’d also encourage the reverse: anyone who enjoys Xenoblade Chronicles and wants to try a Zelda game, BOTW might be good… but I’d recommend Twilight Princess more. Again, the story is more detailed, the exploration style is more in line with Xenoblade, and while there’s not really a focus on side quests, the extra secrets and mini games are amazing.
Okay, okay, I'll try Xenoblade out! lol😂 I'll say it now, it won't ever be better than Zelda for me personally but I will definitely try it out someday and I'll probably like it. I mean, I love Zelda and I love anime, so it sound like this game is best of both worlds!
I had the chance to play Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition when it came out last May 2020, but was a little hesitant with the gameplay mechanics. I really enjoyed the story, characters, adventure, music, and open world, it was awesome! I’m still a little hesitant to get into other Xenoblade games, but maybe that new project Monolith is working on is a Zelda/medieval-like Xenoblade 3 that will convince me to dive into the series again 🙂
I’ve been eyeing Xenoblade for a while. I am a super baby gamer, just got a Switch this time last year; I have been dragging my feet, but I suppose it’s time to try it out.
I got into the series with 2 first. I loved it. Had a great story and charming characters, a fun rpg system, and a beautiful world to explore. It did have some issues, but I thought it was awesome and it was one of my favorite games on the switch, and I’d say it’s in my top 20 games ever. When The remake for 1 was announced, I was pumped. I preordered it when it was available and I got it. I played it, and holy shit; it is one of my three favorite games ever made and if it wasn’t for my zelda boss it would have been my favorite game ever. It blew 2 outta the water personally. The combat was awesome and never felt like battles overstayed their welcome. The pacing is perfect. The soundtrack and story r my favorites in all of video games. The world is so gorgeous and immersive. There was really nothing massive I could fault w the game except maybe how overwhelming side quests could be. This was an epic adventure man. I absolutely adore this game and it’s hard for me to describe how all the elements came together so flawlessly. This made me realize how incredible monolith is, and I just love this game so damn much. It’s a true masterpiece and 100% the best rpg game and the best game on switch imo
I like Xenoblade and really would love to play it, but I don't have much money so I've to decide between buying Zelda or any other game (and I will always choose Zelda).
I have played legend of zelda botw and xenoblade definitive edition and xenoblade 2 and am going to buy the dlc soon because I enjoyed it so much and you hit the mark with the main thing being the adventure and I do wish that they would port xenoblade x to the switch since I threw away my Wii U the moment I got the switch
My top 3 Switch games: 1. Zelda Breath of the Wild 2. Xenoblade DE 3. Xenoblade 2 My top 3 Wii U games 1. Xenoblade X 2. Twilight Princess HD 3. Wind Waker HD My top 3 Wii games 1. Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Twilight Princess 3. Skyward Sword Notice a pattern?
Wow, considering that X on the Wii U is a 6 year old game I was expecting it to be an easier game to find. I had always avoided the xeno series because I had heard it was grindy but a nice adventure could definitely ease my Zelda pangs. I hope the switch games go on sale before the summer is over.
@Xenogamer the so-called "Fan service" in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 plays a huge part of the story; as there's implications why Pyra and Mythra, why Malos, and why most Blades in general all look the way they do. (not spoiling why here though) There's no major fan service in XC1 or XCX, especially compared to XC2, because it's integral to the main story elements.
All right Xeno!!! I need more games... No I don't. I require a full dresser and 2 shelves for my games, consoles and controllers. I've been collecting since I was a kid (in the 80's). I need to buy more games now. My girlfriend is gonna kill me, but she sucks at games and likes watching me play story based games. So... Xeno, I'm going to get away with buying more games!! I swear if I ever lose my inner child that will be the day I die. Now we've talked about Zelda, I don't think I need to dive down that rabbit hole again. The whole I'm old and remember when there was only one Zelda game bit. I have to say. I'm going to play some Xenoblade. I trust you Sir. Take care Xeno!!
Good to hear man! Xenoblade is a great series to backseat experience so I think that should work out well for you and her! If you’re looking for the strongest one to start with narrative wise the first one is my pick. The beginning is a tad slow but once it gets going, you won’t want to put it down if my experiences are anything to go off of.
You made a great commercial Xeno. I'm in. I'll let you know if you ripped me off!! But like I said, your videos are great and I trust your opinion. Take care my friend.
Love xenoblade chronicles 2 switch game haven’t played xenoblade 3 definitive edition I Just started New Game Plus again Haven’t buy DLC or got xenoblade chronicles 2 Torna the Golden country yet will do it soon
If you're looking for a more action-based RPG, I think It's a great start! Learning the combat system is an adjustment, but in my own experience, I found that the story was interesting enough to keep me playing, and I learned to love the combat along the way.
Xengamer I have tried Xenoblade Chronicles, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles: Tourna of the Golden Country and I can't get into any of them. I don't like the combat system or the way side quests are handled. Maybe X would be good for me?
I wish I could recommend X to people looking for something different from the other 2 games, but unfortunately it’s combat system is harder to grasp than 1 & 2. The combat has a learning curve to it and I know it turns a lot of people away from the series, but after some time I found it just started to click for me. If you want to give it another I suggest trying 2 again as it has the easiest to understand system in my opinion. I also highly recommend giving this video from Chuggaaconroy a look as it explains many important concepts the game does a poor job teaching you. ua-cam.com/video/b8P7KhFSA2w/v-deo.html
As a Zelda fan I got recommended to play xenoblade for the longest time I played chronicles X and thought it was good and then got xenoblade 2 and probably never been this bored playing a video game in my life …But story is great My problem is that a Zelda fan won’t love a xenoblade game cause he’s a Zelda fan He needs to know about other JRPG If I got recommended a xenoblade game before I had played anything other than Zelda, I would have been massively disappointed and especially confused why I got xenoblade recommended just cause I’m a Zelda fan. Both types of games are too different Like asking a Mario fan to play final fantasy On the other hand it would make more sense to recommend xenoblade to dragon quest, final fantasy fans Or any other jrpg fans
I tried Xenoblade Chronicles X and found the combat system so confusing that I gave up. The dodge move especially. Resources everywhere that all look exactly the same is making it unnecessarily difficult for quests that require them. I thought it was an a ARPG. I don't understand where all the giant crystals came from around NLA, that's not how crash landings work!
I fully agree with X having a pretty confusing combat system. Especially with the amount of of other mechanics there are to learn in the game. I find 1 & 2 to be much simpler to understand and better overall starting points for the series.
I’m not too big on role playing games, specifically their complicated gameplay and having too much collectibles for completion. I prefer Metroid as my alternative to Zelda; which has much more simple gameplay and being replayable in the span of a single day, as well as the darker science fiction setting.
I feel like I should’ve gone more into this in the video but I do understand that criticism. Each game’s combat system is pretty deep and takes a lot of getting use to. I do think though that once it does click for you, it can be extremely satisfying.
@@Xenogamer I believe it. It wasn't too difficult .. I was just expecting something standard and when I realized it wasn't that, then it just put me off and I just lost the desire :/ I believe it's great for the ppl it clicks with!
i enjoy ing Zelda Breath of the Wild i'm willing to. Try out Some Xenoblade with Character Creation armor upgrade & FFVII was great game Same as Zelda i was never into Mario Bro Link& Simons Quest Castlevainia.
Great Video! I still don't think anyone can convince me to play Xenoblade though, because I hate the combat system (because you can't control the characters) and I also don't like Skimpy anime Girls. I also just prefer the zelda series because the lore is so much more interesting, and the gameplay is just so much better in my opinion!
I can't stand RPGs personally. They're just too complicated for me, all the convoluted combat and menu/customisation features are over-excessive, just way too much stuff for my taste, that makes me feel lost and not enjoy the gameplay. On a more wholesome note, the games' overworlds do look really pretty.
YES. i love the xenoblade chronicles series so much man. imo nothing can beat xenoblade and its amazing story telling.

Literally my two favourite franchises ❤
My top 3 Switch games:
1. Zelda Breath of the Wild
2. Xenoblade DE
3. Xenoblade 2
My top 3 Wii U games
1. Xenoblade X
2. Twilight Princess HD
3. Wind Waker HD
My top 3 Wii games
1. Xenoblade Chronicles
2. Twilight Princess
3. Skyward Sword
Notice a pattern?
Man i wanna play xenosaga...
Wow, considering that X on the Wii U is a 6 year old game I was expecting it to be an easier game to find. I had always avoided the xeno series because I had heard it was grindy but a nice adventure could definitely ease my Zelda pangs. I hope the switch games go on sale before the summer is over.
I have a Wii U but no Switch until the upgraded model comes out, will try to find X and give it a shot to pass the time until BOTW 2.
❤❤❤❤❤
I would love to try out this game. By the way, I'm confident that there are games that match the Legend of Zelda to create an amazing adventure.
Love xenoblade chronicles 2 switch game haven’t played xenoblade 3 definitive edition
I Just started New Game Plus again
Haven’t buy DLC or got xenoblade chronicles 2 Torna the Golden country yet will do it soon
Is Xenoblade a good start to JRPGs? My brother says I should start with FFX but I don't really know?
If you're looking for a more action-based RPG, I think It's a great start! Learning the combat system is an adjustment, but in my own experience, I found that the story was interesting enough to keep me playing, and I learned to love the combat along the way.
@@Xenogamer Noted. Thanks
the weapons Look like MonsterHunter & finalfantasy Weapons
Zelda & Link got me into RPG metroid i didn't play it much
Xengamer I have tried Xenoblade Chronicles, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles: Tourna of the Golden Country and I can't get into any of them.
I would if I had 80 Canadian dollars to spend
As a Zelda fan I got recommended to play xenoblade for the longest time
I played chronicles X and thought it was good and then got xenoblade 2 and probably never been this bored playing a video game in my life
…But story is great
My problem is that a Zelda fan won’t love a xenoblade game cause he’s a Zelda fan
He needs to know about other JRPG
If I got recommended a xenoblade game before I had played anything other than Zelda, I would have been massively disappointed and especially confused why I got xenoblade recommended just cause I’m a Zelda fan.
Both types of games are too different
Like asking a Mario fan to play final fantasy
On the other hand it would make more sense to recommend xenoblade to dragon quest, final fantasy fans
Or any other jrpg fans
Where did you get that Beyond the Sky piano version?
I believe it's the version used in the credits to Xenoblade Chronicles: Future Connected.
Xenoblade x is all about the side quests kinda like majoras mask. The Crystal's around nla is explained if you talk to npcs
I’m not too big on role playing games, specifically their complicated gameplay and having too much collectibles for completion. I prefer Metroid as my alternative to Zelda; which has much more simple gameplay and being replayable in the span of a single day, as well as the darker science fiction setting.
what is the Wiiyou it seems idont wana buy the Game now y need A wiiu. What is that i forgot
Wanted to love it and tried it but couldn't get past the weird gimmicky japanesey combat lol dunno why they can't just go with standard combat
I have a small theory that Elysium is actually Hyrule and that the Zelda games before botw are a retelling of Xenoblade 2s story or something
Xenogears has a much better story then the xenoblade games.. imo. Wish we could get a remake.
I don’t really think you can really compare Zelda to Xenoblade. Idk, I don’t think they’re all that similar.
XC never hooked me up, but XC2 on the other hand is fantastic imo :)
I highly dislike rpg gameplay...the whole strike, and taking turns... but im watching still. 👍
I can’t get into Xenoblades combat
I'M NOT A FAN OF XENOBLADE CHRONICLES IT'S A ZELDA KNOCKOFF; I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST IN ZELDA KNOCKOFF'S
If anything Xeno is a Final Fantasy spinoff as the original Xenogears was pitched as an alternate idea to FF7 but it's totally its own unique series.
its nothing like zelda tho, where are you getting that its a knockoff?
