Not nostilaga. It was an incredible game that really pushed the ds hardware. Full zelda game with tons of awesome little quirks that scream DS. Phantom hourglass didn't disappoint. Really wish I got to play spirit tracks. It's 80$ everywhere I look now
I vastly preferred phantom hourglass to spirit tracks. I just did not like the train and much preferred the boat so at least I could plot my own course.
Zelda 2 is severely underrated and actually is the blueprint for the modern games. Open world, towns, with NPCs, multiple quest, and somewhat strategic combat with the use of spells. Just because its a side scroller doesn't make it a black sheep. Once you get past the initial grind and beginning the game gets better and you can actually see how it influenced the other games.
I just played this game for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I love it. Fun fact is also that it inspired the Smash Bros Link with the 2d combat attacks like downward thrust and upward thrust
I really liked Zelda 2 🤷🏻♂️. I’ve replayed it multiple times. It’s different and I appreciate it as a change of pace. I like the rpg qualities of choosing where to dump my points as well.
Yeah, same. And the whole “what if Z2 had been the first game?” argument - Hollow Knight devs said they took inspiration from Z2. I think you can see it in the combat. So there were definitely great ideas to come out of this game. I’m not saying I wanted it to be the Zelda template, but it’s cool to series try bold new directions. It wasn’t just a lame attempt to cash in on Mario-style like this guy seems to think. Not the best in the series, but in no way a F tier game. I’d give it a solid B.
The Legend of Zelda - 8 The Adventure of Link - 7 A Link to the Past - 10 Link’s Awakening - 9 Link: the Faces of Evil - 2 Zelda: the Wand of Gamelan - 2 Zelda’s Adventure - 1 Ocarina of Time - 10 Majora’s Mask - 9 Oracle of Seasons - 8.5 Oracle of Ages - 8.5 Four Seords - 5 Four Swords Adventures - 6 The Wind Waker - 9 The Minish Cap - 8 Twilight Princess - 8.5 Phantom Hourglass - 5 Spirit Tracks - 6 Skyward Sword - 7 A Link Between Worlds - 8 Tri-Force Heroes - 5 Breath of the Wild - 10 Tears of the Kingdom - 10

The original Zelda was revolutionary, it was so novel in many aspects. I remember when the map first was published in Nintendo Power, I was baffled when I realized that I had just discovered like 10% of secret passages. Good times.
This is the first time I overall agree with a Zelda ranking/tierlist. I remember my uncle and me playing Ocarina of time for the first time. I was 9 years old and had a blast but he was in awe because there simply hadn't been anything comparable; an absolute masterpiece.
@@dankburrito8502outdated mechanics 😂 the mechanics are better than most games out now for the PS5 and series x 😂 Ocarina of time is a solid 10/10 game! It’s incredible
@@Trevlad11 It is incredible but the mechanics are definitely outdated. The z targeting is not good & having to use that as the horizontal camera axis and having to stop to use the vertical axis is bad for todays standards. The rest is amazing! 10/10 for me too
You have Hyrule Warriors but no Age of Calamity or Cadence of Hyrule. Both are great games that deserve to be on the list since you included Hyrule Warriors.
I disagree with the placement of orcale of time and oracle of ages. They were awesome. If you combine both games you get an entire extra story to play, which is something many do not know about.
One day I will find someone who has nostalgia for Phantom Hourglass as I do. As a kid who grew up in love with Wind Waker on my favourite console the GameCube and was also a die hard handheld gamer Phantom was like a portable wind Waker to me and although some of the mechanics were batshit frustrating I still loved it thoroughly and it might actually be the first Zelda I completed
I don’t have nostalgia for phantom hourglass but I do love it 8 think it’s better than Spirit tracks. I still wouldn’t put it on the level of the A tiers but it’s at least a B tier for me.
Twilight princess would be SS for me personally I loved the dungeons and the puzzles and fishing, the boss battles weren't very easy. The story was great too me the game was really big. The side quests was great and challenging.
Definitely SS tier. Best "traditional style" Zelda imo. Only thing is for me the combat and boss did seem pretty easy, even when I replayed it last year on Hero mode on the HD port
The thing about twilight princess explains a lot!! When I was younger I used to play it on the wii, I recently bought it for the GameCube and was very confused because I remembered everything being flipped the other way 😂
@@rieyyan9039 you do understand he’d get more views before it’s release correct? If he waited till afterward. More than have his fan base wouldn’t even see the video
I just played Skyward Sword for the 1st time, on the Switch. It was even better than I hoped. Along with Majora's Mask, it has some of the best dungeons in a Zelda game. Zelda II had some problems, but it's still a classic. The Oracle games were disappointing to me, because there was too much inventory management. Capcom made those games
I think phantom hourglass gets a lot more hate than it’s due. I think it held up quite strongly as a follow on from windwaker considering it was released for the DS. I probably had the most immersive fun on a handheld device with phantom hourglass when it comes to zelda. All the others i’d put down for a week maybe only to pick them up and wander round aimlessly trying to figure out what i was last doing 😅 phantom hourglass was simple fun that let you draw on the map to keep track of what or where you were last thinking of and that really helped to pick it back up at any given time 👌
I was initially turned off by Link’s Awakening (remake) because of the art style but somewhere along the way of sort of forcing myself to play through it, I fell in love with it. I’ve probably played 5 or 6 Zelda games and it is right up there with my favorites, maybe right behind Ocarina of Time
I love everything about Majora's Mask, except playing it... Best story of any in the series, best atmosphere, best villain... goddamn chore to play. And he nailed it with BotW. That game feels now how the original felt back then. As a kid, I felt the original game was this overwhelmingly huge, expansive adventure and no other game felt like that again until BotW.
the Oracle series were my first introduction to Zelda, and how I fell in love with the Zelda series. Those 2 definitely deserve an S or higher rank for adventure and story!
Great list! For me personally I would put “A Link to the Past” as a AA. This game was my “Ocarina of Time”. When “A Link Between Worlds” released with its special edition 3DS I was beyond excited.
I’m not sure if I’m wrong but you forgot Age of Calamity, I think it’s a really good game with a nice alternative story to give us more of the champions!
Yeah and iam still butt hurt that it’s not canon in My Honest Opinion AOC had a way better made story then Breath and tears put together I wish Nintendo would do more of that of Zelda story build up wise of AOC
yeah. and now that I finally learned patience while playing games (taught to me by the souls series), it's not even that challenging. but it is fun. there are a few too many cryptic bits and things you cannot find without button mashing (they should have had some twinkle sprite or something). but I memorized those all as a kid, so they're not a big deal for me anymore.
I do think it's a top 5 game of all time, and easily either 1st or 2nd best Zelda game ever, but man.. Breath of the Wild will probably go down in history as THE best game ever if it hasn't already. Such a huge fan of Link to the Past. It was beyond revolutionary and remained better than pretty much any game to come out throughout the 90s, period (Edit: other than the Pokemon games which are my personal favorites of all time).
What I really love with the Zelda games is how they keep pushing innovative gameplay, and consequently how rich the whole Zelda collection is. I don't have any other "franchise" in mind coming close to it.
I actually think Link to the Past is the most important Zelda game of all time. Because IT solidified what Zelda was supposed to be like. People say Ocarina did that, but I heavily disagree with that sentiment. Ocarina blew our minds because it was 3D. But in terms of structure, it was just following what Link to the Past did. It even had a dark world of its own by going into the future. Its also incredibly weird that Link to the Past have never been remade or remastered yet it plays and looks great even today.
OoT came out when I was in 6th grade, I used to wake up an hour early than normal so i could play it before school. Flawless game. Also, you’re not wrong, earthbound is peak gaming
I grew up on NES Zelda and got ocarina of time for Christmas one year and I was obsessed with that game. It’s my fav game ever made. Sure, I was stuck on the water temple for almost a year. But I enjoyed finally figuring it out and beating the game 😂
I loved phantom hourglass. They tried something new, having two screen bosses were amazing, and the puzzles were very interesting. My 3DS broke and I could not play spirit track. Sad. Lol
Good list, I would now put tears of the kingdom in SS and move breath of the wild down into S. I also think that phantom hourglass is severely underrated, B tier absolute minimum, probably A tier IMO
I don’t k ow if this comment will reach you Woods, but I followed you back when you had 170,000 subscribers. I knew you would make it big and I was your biggest fan. Last video I saw of yours was back when you made an extremely heartfelt video on depression and suicide. It was deeply moving, and I was at a dark place in my own life. I found myself walking in the brisk autumn air reflecting on my own life as you poured your heart out. I don’t know what compelled you to share those feelings, but it ignited something within me. I ended up taking a hiatus from technology, social media, etc. I found the love of my life, have a kid, and got back on UA-cam. Had to find you again, and I was happy to see that you reached the big time. I cannot be happier for you man. You’re amazing and I appreciate your content. I recently have been playing tears of the kingdom and I was curious as to how you liked it. Super happy to know some things have not changed
As someone who’s first real Zelda game was Breath of The Wild, I feel like I’m gonna have a hard time getting used to the other games since there’s no climbing necessarily, open world and Blue Link
Do not worry friend, theres no such thing as a zelda bad game, they are all flawless, just think of the time and technology at the moment, dont compare them to botw
I love how you actually love link between worlds and put it on S tier since most people never talk abt this game and it's very fun. The only thing against it was it was pretty easy that i never even died lol. But i kinda feel attacked you put seasons on A and ages on B since imo, ages was far better than seasons but it's okay. It's your opinion and you said u haven't played it yet haha
Im so shocked and surprised phantom of hourglass and spirit tracks in D Tier wtf. I didnt know i was driven by nostalgia this much. I had it as one of my best adventure growing up and i saw it as a S tier banger.
I think it's really interesting that you preferred SS on the Wii over the Switch, because I felt the opposite. The motion controls really kept me from engaging with the Wii version, but the more standard controls on Switch worked well enough that I could really enjoy the game for what it is (also they made Fi interrupt less).
I always got stressed out by the timer/moon in Majora's Mask as a kid. I do remember getting all 3 masks without beating a temple and feeling like I "tricked the game".
You can really see that he hasn't played majoras mask that much, or at least it's been a long time by this quote of his The day and night system is basically only significant in the first 1h30 of the game, before the link returns to normal I don't know if I agree with Majoras being below Ocarina of Time but they are two great games and the list was also good
Second edit: Aonuma confirmed in an interview that link is Ambidextrous, meaning he is neither left-handed or right-handed. First edit: Link used to be left-handed. Ever since Twilight princess on the Wii, he's been right-handed, so I think it's fair to assume that he's neither left-handed or right-handed. Twilight Princess is the only game where Link is left-handed. In every other game, he's right-handed.
No, Wood's right. Aonuma may have made up an excuse later on, but all Link's up until that point (and some directly following - Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, probably to provide consistency with Wind Waker) were left-handed. Just look at Ocarina, Majora's, Wind Waker etc. All left-handed. They have only kept to right-handed since they had to switch it with Twilight Princess, which argues against him being ambidextrous, especially as they kept the DS ones following Wind Waker consistent.
Theres no way BOTW is better than OOT. BOTW has amazing mechanics and the world is fun to explore. The characters are mediocre, the story is bad, the dungeons are trash, collecting mushrooms and making meals gets tedious after the 3rd or 4th time. Awesome tech improvement for the franchise, but its A at best.
My List would be this S-Tier (in order) The legend of ZELDA - Majora's Mask The legend of ZELDA - Ocarina of Time The legend of ZELDA - The Wind Waker A-Tier (in order) The legend of ZELDA - Breath of the Wild The legend of ZELDA - Link's Awakening (DX) The legend of ZELDA - Twilight Princess The legend of ZELDA - Tears of the Kingdom The legend of ZELDA - A Link between Worlds B-Tier (in order) The legend of ZELDA - Oracle of Ages The legend of ZELDA - Oracle of Seasons The legend of ZELDA - A Link to the Past The legend of ZELDA - Skyward Sword The legend of ZELDA - Four Swords Adventures The legend of ZELDA - Hyrule Fantasy C-Tier (in order) The legend of ZELDA - The Minish Cap The legend of ZELDA - The Adventures of Link The legend of ZELDA - Four Swords (Anniversary Edition) D-Tier (in order) The legend of ZELDA - Spirit Tracks The legend of ZELDA - Phantom Hourglass E-Tier The legend of ZELDA - TriForce Heroes But each list is probably shaped a lot by when a game was played.
BOTW doesn't deserve to be anywhere near OOT or MM, it's a brilliant classic yes, but no SS tier, the story was way too disjointed and broken, BOTW was actually so broken at its core you could miss 99% of the game and go straight to the end lol, that's not what LOZ is about imho.
Every single action game that has a lock-on feature owes this to Ocarina of Time. Nintendo basically wrote the bible of 3D game world navigation basics with Mario 64 and OoT.
Windwaker was literally my favorite game growing up but never got to finish it. Luckily just got the game again today and looking forward to finally completing it after 20 years 😭
I became a Zelda fan when botw came out, so I haven't played all the games, but this is my tier list based on which ones I've played: SS: Botw (Love the atmosphere, the music, the cutscenes the gameplay, everything, even the divine beasts) S: Totk (Amazing game, but WAY too similar to botw. It's basically the same as botw but they added a few things. Plus, they got rid of the master cycle and 60 damage master sword) A: Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (Very underrated game, I loved the story, I don't care if it's not canon, it can still be a good story) A Link to the Past (So fun, music is great, just a little repetitive gameplay wise) Skyward Sword (People hate motion controls too much, I was fine with them. Story and music are great, the only thing is there could be more places to go other than Faron, Death Mountain, and Lanayru) B: Link's awakening (Felt like a Zelda game, but there's nothing too special about it) C: Ocarina of Time (Very overrated for me, it was a fine game, and it has a good story, but it is sometimes very janky and hard to play. Also, I got confused as to where I was supposed to go a lot in the game. For example, how was I supposed to know that I needed to hit a random rolling goron with a bomb to progress in the game? It just felt a little vague to me) The Legend of Zelda (Same reasons as OoT, just worse because it's not 3D and doesn't have much of a story) D: The Legend of Zelda II (Same reasons as OoT and The Legend of Zelda, but even worse because it is WAY too hard) I know a lot of you are going to be pissed with that OoT ranking, but remember, it's just my opinion. I don't think it's a bad game I just don't think it's the best game of all time like people say it is. I respect your opinion If it's your favorite game in the series, I'm happy for you, it's just not my personal cup of tea.
I don’t think it’s fair when people say that Ocarina of Time is only loved because of nostalgia. I first played it on my 3DS when I was 13, and it was my third Zelda game. It completely blew me away. I loved it so much, that I even cried listening to Zelda’s Lullaby after that because of my emotional attachment to the game. In my opinion, it deserves all of the hype it gets.

Spirit tracks is super good. It even has one of the best OSTs in the series. I also love Phantom Hourglass, but that's mostly nostalgia.
I agree phantom hour glass for me is at least A tier.
God the whole Malladus fight theme (Phase 1 to 3) gives me life
Phantom hourglass is one of my least favorite Zelda games in my opinion
Couldn't agree more. It's not a perfect game but it is a personal favorite of mine. I still go back and play through it every couple of years.
The combat is actually pretty good for its time once you get the hang of it.
I've beaten it (Zelda 2) on Zelda Game & Watch 35th Anniversary :)
I just played this game for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I love it. Fun fact is also that it inspired the Smash Bros Link with the 2d combat attacks like downward thrust and upward thrust
I would love a remake
Zelda 2 is A or S tier for me . The music is great, it’s challenging, and the combat is really fun.
Yea the game has a really popular speedrunning scene now
Apparently this guy has never played the zelda games on the Phillips CDI.. I think if he did, he would reconsider putting Zelda 2 in F tier😂

SSword is awesome, I really like it :) Majora's is and will always be my favorite and the best Zelda game in my opinion
Skyward Sword was my first Zelda game that I actually played through and I loved it.
I think phantom hourglass gets a lot more hate than it’s due. I think it held up quite strongly as a follow on from windwaker considering it was released for the DS.
I probably had the most immersive fun on a handheld device with phantom hourglass when it comes to zelda. All the others i’d put down for a week maybe only to pick them up and wander round aimlessly trying to figure out what i was last doing 😅 phantom hourglass was simple fun that let you draw on the map to keep track of what or where you were last thinking of and that really helped to pick it back up at any given time 👌
this is facts i havent played but 4 zelda games but phantom hourglass was my first one and it was so fun and unique on the ds
Same with spirit tracks
I think majora’s mask is a game that heavily values replayability. You can immerse yourself a lot more once you know the game route
Thank you for acknowledging how amazing a link between worlds is!! I barely ever hear people talking about it

I needed this after the monster that was Bobs list
Phantom hourglass was my first Zelda game and I loved it
What I really love with the Zelda games is how they keep pushing innovative gameplay, and consequently how rich the whole Zelda collection is.
Four swords adventure for gamecube was ahead of its time. Amazing game with beautiful soundtrack. Recommend giving it a try

I think it's really interesting that you preferred SS on the Wii over the Switch, because I felt the opposite. The motion controls really kept me from engaging with the Wii version, but the more standard controls on Switch worked well enough that I could really enjoy the game for what it is (also they made Fi interrupt less).
And it looks SOOOO MUCH BETTER (HD on wii U)
Windwaker is by far the most underrated zelda game
I always got stressed out by the timer/moon in Majora's Mask as a kid. I do remember getting all 3 masks without beating a temple and feeling like I "tricked the game".
I think the blueprint for further games is a link to the past
You can really see that he hasn't played majoras mask that much, or at least it's been a long time by this quote of his
The day and night system is basically only significant in the first 1h30 of the game, before the link returns to normal
I don't know if I agree with Majoras being below Ocarina of Time but they are two great games and the list was also good
Second edit: Aonuma confirmed in an interview that link is Ambidextrous, meaning he is neither left-handed or right-handed.
@@charliefen there have been some New games where link is left-handed, like in echoes of wisdom.

Zelda 2 is one of my favorite
I like how it took 2 and a half minutes to get to the actual subject of the video. Great job
I became a Zelda fan when botw came out, so I haven't played all the games, but this is my tier list based on which ones I've played:
SS: Botw (Love the atmosphere, the music, the cutscenes the gameplay, everything, even the divine beasts)
S: Totk (Amazing game, but WAY too similar to botw. It's basically the same as botw but they added a few things. Plus, they got rid of the master cycle and 60 damage master sword)
A: Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (Very underrated game, I loved the story, I don't care if it's not canon, it can still be a good story)
A Link to the Past (So fun, music is great, just a little repetitive gameplay wise)
Skyward Sword (People hate motion controls too much, I was fine with them. Story and music are great, the only thing is there could be more places to go other than Faron, Death Mountain, and Lanayru)
B: Link's awakening (Felt like a Zelda game, but there's nothing too special about it)
C: Ocarina of Time (Very overrated for me, it was a fine game, and it has a good story, but it is sometimes very janky and hard to play. Also, I got confused as to where I was supposed to go a lot in the game. For example, how was I supposed to know that I needed to hit a random rolling goron with a bomb to progress in the game? It just felt a little vague to me)
The Legend of Zelda (Same reasons as OoT, just worse because it's not 3D and doesn't have much of a story)
D: The Legend of Zelda II (Same reasons as OoT and The Legend of Zelda, but even worse because it is WAY too hard)
I know a lot of you are going to be pissed with that OoT ranking, but remember, it's just my opinion. I don't think it's a bad game I just don't think it's the best game of all time like people say it is. I respect your opinion If it's your favorite game in the series, I'm happy for you, it's just not my personal cup of tea.
Link to the Past and Orcania of Time are a must but everything else is optional. Nuff said.
Breath of the wild before ocarina? what ? Bruh
I hated breath of the wild the weapons mechanics was just frustrating and not fun i don't know what the developers were thinking
