Just gonna put this out there, haven't even finished it, but Link will NEED to speak. If he's the primary perspective character, he can't be the typical blank slate because of that. This is a movie, not a video game.
Silent protagonists work in video games since you're supposed to project onto them; they have very little personality to facilitate that. But in a movie, if Link only ever vocalizes grunts and yells, with the only insight to what he's thinking is his facial expressions, that's a tall task to ask of an audience. Not even a sidekick like Navi or Fi would really help, since it's implied he responds to them.
They'll need to pull some weird and crazy stuff to make it work, and I can't think of any movies off the top of my head that had a silent hero/protagonist that wasn't shot or produced in a VERY unique way (never watched Hardcore Henry, but I'm assuming he's silent, and it's done in a unique way).

Link has a voice in Wind Waker, he actually says "Come on" in the the temples where you use the Command Melody, so I wouldn't have an issue with him talking. The main reason he doesn't talk in the series is because we as the player already know what he is telling other people, there wouldn't be a reason for him to talk in the games, in a movie however, we don't have that option.

It's funny because I recently mentioned this a few times before in ''When will Link talk??'' discussions so, not sure why no one has acknowledged your astute observation yet.

@@netweed09 Thank you for the reply. Yeah I think it has something to do with how people have played the games before, they don't tend to focus on the moments were he actually says something. Plus Wind Waker on it's initial release wasn't as beloved as it is now and people tend to burst through the temples without paying much attention to that detail. I love the fact that I'm not the only one who noticed this.

@@netweed09 Oh and he also is mentioned to actually talk to Zelda when you read her diary in Breath Of The Wild. He chooses to stay silent in that game so no one knows the weight of the burden he feels... it's been a while since I read that diary in game so I might miss quoting.

I think if there gonna do this movie, ganondorf should kidnap Zelda and take her to his castle and the key to get into ganon's Castle should should be separated in two pieces that he has to go to two different dungeons to find

I would love to see a Zelda movie, even if they don't try to follow the games. I think it would be better as a stand-alone thing because of how complex the dreaded timeline is.

I would love a Legend of Zelda Movie. If they decided to make a move and adapt the games on the big screen, the two games I would choose between are Skyward Sword or Ocarina of Time.

Those are both good choices. I feel like Skyward would work even better as a movie than a game.
Ocarina would be the obvious choice probably if someone HAD to make a Zelda movie and they never knew if they would make a sequel. It’s the most iconic (and best) one.

I'm going to be honest, I'd be perfectly fine if Link talked. They just need to be very careful about how it's done, avoiding the pitfalls of the TV series, and the CDI games as far as his personality goes. Question is, who would you have play him?

I kinda want link to be mostly quiet but have Zelda as his companion character that does most of the talking. then the movie is about learning how to partner up and use their respective pieces of the Triforce together to defeat Ganon. Idk bro i just think it would be unique and make link stand out and it would keep his initial "link" between the audience and the game to a degree.

I fear that a “game adaptation” would lead to the problem of just “remember that, remember this” but your just watching and not playing.
Something new would not be beholden to aspects tied to game mechanics it could be more character focused and visually interesting.

I agree with you on everything...except the 11 episodes of the 1989 Legend of Zelda Maybe I'm biased since I was 6 when it came on (every Friday) for the Super Mario Bros. Super Show. Lol. But hey the Evil Jar is great! My favorite episode was always episode 7 Underworld Connections.
I'd like to see them buy the rights to RebeccaETripp's Zelda Drama audio and make a movie of it. They did an amazing job. That was a mishmash of ideas pulled from the whole series and with new ideas.

Giving Link a voice - I think you can do a Zelda film without giving Link a voice, even one aimed at the family audience, but I don't think you can do that _and_ have other characters speak. That works in video games (...If a bit weird in full conversations in e.g. BG3 when NPCs are fully voiced and you're part of the conversation is silent) just fine, but I can't see that working in film.
...The question for voiced vs voiceless Link then becomes would whatever studio they went with be bold enough to do a family film telling a dramatic story without any dialogue. I think that could work - Especially in animation - But I'm not sure there are any studios that might get the rights to Zelda that would be bold enough to do so. What's the last time we saw a dialogueless film aimed at a family audience? The Shaun the Sheep film?
...Oh god why did you have to say Link's Awakening as a direct adaptation. Between my throwaway comment about Shaun the Sheep and that I want Aardman's version of Link's Awakening now.

Just because it has potential, not everything needs to be made into a movie. But a Zelda movie is an inevitability and unfortunately it's probably going to be with Illumination. If so, they might be able to get away with a movie based on the "Toon Link/Wind Waker" aesthetic. However, I still think Link must remain silent. I think it's important to have representation of mute protagonists and it doesn't make Link less of a character. It also give a chance for a companion or Zelda to shine too.
I also agree that Studio Ghibli doing a Zelda film would be a dream come true. Nintendo might even have a way to bring Miyazaki out of retirement to direct it if they really wished.

I don't know why Nintendo doesn't just line up thrir cutscrnes from the older games, upgrade the visuals and fill in the gaps with a fight or something.
Just watching the cutscenes of tears and age of calamity felt like watching movies in their own right. All they need is a tad bit of polishing and removing repetitive dialog.
