Ray Bennett posted this comment on the Flash myspace page: "For old Flash fans, a note of explanation : The other two original members: guitarist, Pete Banks and drummer, Mike Hough initially were interested in being in this band, but each in his own way later decided it was not what he wanted to do. Colin and I however were totally delighted with the idea and clicked right back into it. Continuing down this road just seemed like the right thing to do. Unfinished business."
It's official...the release date for the new Flash CD is May 21st on Cleopatra Records. Title-"FLASH featuring Ray Bennett and Colin Carter." At last!!! We were all shocked and saddened to hear that the brilliant former Flash and Yes guitarist, Peter Banks, died last week. We're told he heard three tracks from the new CD and liked them very much, especially the cover of "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails. Hard to believe he's gone...
I'm a music lover. Call it what you will (Flash 2?) I'm happy to have it. It'll be different, for sure, but Ray and Colin were very much a part of what made Flash sound the way it did, and between the two of them they wrote most of their material. So this should be a treat for Flash fans, and makes it easier for fans to find them, wouldn't you say? In the end, whatever you call it, it's all about the music.
Ray's playing lead guitar now. He also played bass on the recording, but you can check out the new line-up on the rehearsal clip I posted here on youtube - "Ray Bennett & Colin Carter 1st Flash Rehearsal in Vegas". /watch?v=7Jhbb7OI0o8 Ray & Collin - guitar and vocals Wayne Carver - bass Mark Pardy - drums Rick Daugherty - keyboards I'll keep you posted on the new CD and tour dates.
@amazrand I'm A Flasher.I saw them 3 times. Can't wait to see them again. What other prog bands do you like ?I was in metal and punk bands most of my life but always loved prog and psyche.
Ray played a Rickenbacker - still has it. Dunno about Wayne. Maybe he'll show up and tell us. Thanks for your kind words. Much appreciated. Where are you working?
Great stuff ! bought the first lp when I was 12 hooked ever since. What are the future plans then : an Lp, ohh sorry, a CD release ? small tour perhaps ? I'm confused Ray is not playing bass ? who's playing guitar ?
@lastdaysguitar - Sorry Keith, I should have added a smiley face to my post regarding Peter Banks. :) Just playing with the Yes/No thing. If you look at the other Flash videos on my channel and an interview with the band, you'll see that Pete is not part of the reunion and was the reason the band broke up in the 70's. Original Flash members, Ray Bennett - the bassist, now the lead guitarist -- and lead vocalist, Colin Carter, have reunited. Ray is also my husband.
Thanks Sherry for clearing me up. That clip is too funny watching Ray meshing up a couple of times and his reactions to it ! Do you know what Ray's bass gear was back in 70's ? What is Wayne Carver using in the band now? Hope the best for their future and will be waiting patiently for the release and to see them. If they come close to where I work I'll be on Local crew for the particular venues. See you then !
Northeast US NYC and beyond and the SW: Vegas/ Denver areas. I am kinda deep in the biz too. Don't think there is way to PM you on You Tube and of course don't wanna put my email out here.
