Amazing soundtracks, fine classical japanese painting/arts, dozens of different but with unique abilities, brutalities with blood pack and severed limbs and most importantly REAL MENACING PHYSIQUE OF ARROWS FLYING up and down.
My absolute favorite is shogun 2. I think in the future (though keep in mind I haven't played any new total war games) is be able to make customizable army uniforms and stats, like make an independent nonhistorical or canon army.
I think the people who think TWW and TWW2 are boring must be on some kind of crack. How can you think fighting Orcs, Elves, Vampires, Lizardmen, and Daemons is BORING?
I want another Napoleon/Empire era game with smarter AI and really responsive units. I feel like the more recent games, it's harder to move and get ahold of your units, especially once their in combat.
Disagree, you just have to be smarter about unit placement and movement. Warhammer 2 taught me the value of really studying how units perform and what doing things like moving ranged back ahead of time is invaluable. Yes there is clunkiness due to all the shit going on in the battles. But it's not hard to maneuver
@@clownphd1684 It is 100% harder to move units once they are in combat than previous games. You are just saying the most effective way to play in the new games. The only reason you have to play that way is that they are less responsive once they enter combat. Play Rome 1 and you will see what I am talking about.

You say that, but RTW was the first total war game I played and that was only about a year and a half ago. There's something endearing about the low graphics, and they didn't inhibit what to me was the point of the game - to fight battles strategically without zooming in to see the individual men
One really good thing, that i liked about Rome 2, is that they managed to make the battles much more historicaly accurate, since the enemy lines didn't get mixed with your lines and they were stabbing at eachother and actually using their shields

I love to see Medieval 3 or Shogun 3 too, but they planned Warhammer as a trilogy from the start, so I think we must wait. At least the last game will be released soon.

Every single unit being independent feels too awesome to me, it makes me feel like being in the battlefield, it's too damn good. Only downside is not being able to play battles with more than 1000 units, that's the only advantage on TW games atm for me.

medieval total war 1 is in my opinion the best one. I spent soooooo many hours playing it and at 1 point i had almost conquered the entire map and i deeply regret not going back to finish it.
Dang, have some of you played Warhammer 1 and 2? Been playing since Medieval II, and hated on Warhammer because of its fantasy setting.. But it's easily the best of the series as far as tactics, gameplay (minus siege battles), graphics/animations, unit variety, campaign effects, unique buildings, etc. Shogun II Fall of the Samurai is my favorite non fantasy TW, and I would love a Medieval III, but Warhammer II is awesome in its own right.
something just made Shogun 2 really good - i cant work it out...... Its like for some reason the devs who made shogun 2 left CA and it went downhill from then
I think its the units, right now units feel like blobs of cats running after catnip, something about shogun made the units feel not only more alive but the combat actually looked legit.
Tbh, Shogun 2 was super monotonous, every faction felt the same (even if it's a game based on Japan, they could have made different units for each faction, even if the difference isn't too big, it would have added flavour), battles were a rugby melee mess, AI was horrible in battle, agents were the most superpowered beings ever in any TW game, every unit fight was a 1 vs 1 soldier fight due to animations and the end game mechanic was awfuly thought. It had good things, and I enjoyed it, but it's far from being the best TW game in my opinion.
We Need an empire 2 or medieval 3. That said, I'd be stoked for a modern WWII or something (I know it's overdone in shooter genre, but a massive gunfire total war would be cool. Been a while since one)
I kind of agree but I really think a Civil War era has a lot of potential, if it could include the entire North American Theater with the Caribbean and mesoamerica much like Empire but all the way to America's West Coast and even perhaps Alaska before the Russians sold it so I can be a corner faction with my Streltzy again, then go Stick it to both the North and the South for sucking 😄 I think there could be a lot of potential for that open American West, still lots of tribes who are free, Mexico still being a big player, and even the Mormon's Nauvoo Legion was big enough to Skirmish with the United States Army at one point before they decided to chill and become the Utah National Guard. There is some potential for a campaign there, and the Blackhawk Wars as well as rough as they were, but honestly if War Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce didn't get some kind of campaign I'd throw something.
@@sonofthebearking3335 Civil war would be cool too - really anything with line battles across history could be cool and not really require much effort on them as it wouldn't be "too new". Rome Total War, Medieval 2 Total War and Empire Total War were the greatest of the franchise. Would love to see an Empire 2 Total war including S. America, S. Africa, Australia, China and Antarctica with research capabilities by sending ships on research missions.
I want an empire where they focus more on economy and proper mapping and AI strategy. It made no sense they Included Albany but didn't include New York. Also entire France was represented by only the city Paris. And Spain contained only the city Madrid. Who made that stupid idea? I think they should optimize the game by focusing on size of ongoing map. I feel like one of the largest problem in the game is how they don't allow you to have that feeling of controlling large areas of land or amassing large armies unless you control all of Europe. They should make construction more expensive and upkeep cost very low while keeping recruitment moderate.
SHogun 2 and 3 Kingdoms stand out for me. As a history buff it served to scratch my itch, and teach me more about those wars in the past. Currently with TW Warhammer i dont get that, but the battles are still fun, though somewhat diminished.
Original Rome will always hold a special place in my heart. Lost days to that game trying to conquer Europe, eventually spreading to far and my cities began to betray me... just like the real Rome LOL

I wish someone mad a total conversion mod for TW: Warhammer 2 or 3. Because it looks like the perfect game to be converted into Middle Earth.
Total warhammer is basically like lotr but better.
Try Warhammer TW - it's good game for those who love fkng fantasy bllsht.
I remember Medieval 2 Americas campaign was so much fun, playing as the Mayans and seeing their amazing cities. Now we have them in even greater detail, populated by dinosaur people!
😂
Still remember the goosebumps Rome gave me back in 2004 when I first saw it
I have played a lot of total war games. For me, the best ever is Shogun 2. It is just so complete. Amazing soundtracks, fine classical japanese painting/arts, dozens of different but with unique abilities, brutalities with blood pack and severed limbs and most importantly REAL MENACING PHYSIQUE OF ARROWS FLYING up and down.
Rome 1 : Best campaign gameplay
Rome 2: Best multiplayer
Empire/Napoleon : Best ship combat
agree with you, but all tw games have a sucker IA
Shogun 2: best battles
Attila: Best survival game.
I got Rome Total War in 2004, I still play it to this day
Me to .. first time playing it in 2004 when i was 14 y. Now am 31 and i got it in my laptop
I'd love to see a Shogun 3 above all else but I'd also would love medieval 3 as well
You mean shogun 2 2?
i think, shogun 3, ntw 2, etw 2, medival 3, those should be the ones coming imo, that'd be great
Why Shogun 3?
Shogun 2 is amazing and the servers are still online.
We dont need that, maybe medieval 3 but Shogun 3?
Really?
@@plsjato maybe a redux?
@@plsjato How about remastered Shogun 2?
Just the advancement from 2d models in Medieval 1 to 3d in Rome was fantastic
My absolute favorite is shogun 2. I think in the future (though keep in mind I haven't played any new total war games) is be able to make customizable army uniforms and stats, like make an independent nonhistorical or canon army.
Me too shogun
Me toooo 😎🤓🥳🥳🥳🥳
I always forget, how much of an improvement Total war Rome was from the previous ones.
I will always love NaNapoleon Total war even if nobody ever mentions the gem that it is
I am waiting for Napoleon 2 Total War or Imperial Glory 2
Very underrated
You know, Napoleon total war is essentially Fallout New Vegas of Total war. And both are from the same year
I think the people who think TWW and TWW2 are boring must be on some kind of crack. How can you think fighting Orcs, Elves, Vampires, Lizardmen, and Daemons is BORING?
Demons arent in the game
@@j.d.6086 This method works in Shogun 2. I've tested it out myself. I actually have no issues moving and coordinating units. Just get good bro
@@clownphd1684 Whatever, most people are casuals, and just want to play the campaign every once in a while. Not have to engineer tactics to get my units to obey. It's kinda weird to aspire to be good at a total war game.
@@j.d.6086 I don't really know what you would expect out of a game as complex as Total War. Not only do the units have their animations and stats, they interact with the environment around them causing clunkiness to be inevitable. The amount of times I issue an attack but get a movement command instead is annoying. But it's never enough for me to be like "Wow golly jee it's so hard to use units"
I want Total war : The lord of the rings
mods on medival 2
@@___8668 Don't even mention "MOD" on a game which released 15 years ago
The is also Lord of ring mode out on Attila I believed.
@@delkorea7969 I massively disagree the Mods for medieval 2 are fantastic. The Lotr mod actually looks fairly decent for how old it is.
@@Crexman501 Yes and it is really good looking.
Watching the original Shogun sure brought back memories. I thought I was too old for video games then, but that was the hook for sure. Been playing Total War ever since......... & in an odd way..... I miss the original Shogun & Medieval.
As awful as Rome looks now, it was seriously the best thing ever back in the day. And the transition from Rome to Med II literally made my childhood
You say that, but RTW was the first total war game I played and that was only about a year and a half ago. There's something endearing about the low graphics, and they didn't inhibit what to me was the point of the game - to fight battles strategically without zooming in to see the individual men
I feel the same about shogun 1 i played that first and was HOOKED and now it looks terrible
Medieval 1 always sucked though
Medieval 2 is still my favorite game by far. It was so crisp, so fun, so well made.
Aside from the AI. Legit some of the dumbest AI in the history of Total war lmao
Rome 2 AI is the dumbest one, they won't hesitate to charge at the terrifying wall of Pike Phalanx
One really good thing, that i liked about Rome 2, is that they managed to make the battles much more historicaly accurate, since the enemy lines didn't get mixed with your lines and they were stabbing at eachother and actually using their shields
Come off it, i used to have a enemy unit unit surrounded by around 7 or 8 units and that unit just did not rout at all
@@urbanwarrior3470 Well yeah, the game is kinda bullshit sometimes to be fair, but this was one feature i really enjoyed and made the game cool to look at.
@@urbanwarrior3470 How's it going to rout when surrounded by 7 or 8 units? Probably resolved to fight to the last.
@@diddlypoop It wasn't even officially fighting to the death - it was just fighting - even wheni tried to removed some units
@@urbanwarrior3470 Did you check the unit's morale? The game gives you a clear breakdown of a unit's morale and how it's feeling or if it's close to routing.
I can't believe it's been almost 22 years love Total war Best game ever
Man, how lucky the Warhammer segment has been, 3 games in less than 5 years, while an Empire 2 or a Medieval 3 already seems to be something that we will never see as such.
It was the plan the entire time to make a trilogy to pack in the crazy amount of content there is in the warhammer series
I love to see Medieval 3 or Shogun 3 too, but they planned Warhammer as a trilogy from the start, so I think we must wait. At least the last game will be released soon.
Medieval 2 still looks so good
I've played Total War games since Rome 1. This year I just got to start playing Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord. I am having a hard time going back to Total War games now... Every single unit being independent feels too awesome to me, it makes me feel like being in the battlefield, it's too damn good. Only downside is not being able to play battles with more than 1000 units, that's the only advantage on TW games atm for me.
I'd also like to give Mount and Blade a try.
Which version would you recommend for someone playing it for the first time, coming from Total War?
I've played RTW 1, MTW 2 and NTW.
@@GonzoTehGreat I've only played M&B Bannerlord, so that's the only one I can recommend. Even though it is currently in early access, I can tell it's totally worth it in it's current state (my opinion at least).
@@GonzoTehGreat if youve never played mount and blade go for bannerlord and if you find the campaign mechanics to be a bit shallow go for warband and try some of the mods

First total war i played was Rome then medieval 2 been in love with the series ever since
brilliant how they peaked with medieval 2, then downgraded for two games, then peaked again with shogun 2, and have since been on a bizarre upwards downwards cycle for years
We all are living in 2021 while this man is in 2022 already

Nice vid 👍
Rome 1 🥺 what a beautiful game that was. Love Rome 2 as well shame they over complicated massively the campaign. Med 1 & 2 were special as well
pure nostalgia...:-) great video mate!
I played rome, empire and rome 2, enjoyed them all. Will continue after i finished my AOE II campaign
Try Shogun 2, it's beautiful
medieval total war 1 is in my opinion the best one. I spent soooooo many hours playing it and at 1 point i had almost conquered the entire map and i deeply regret not going back to finish it.
man, first total war game have better sieges than warhammer 2
I started with Medieval I, back in the day, and now Warhammer 1 is nearly a decade old. Insane.
If being very close to a mobile game is your definition of “best game “ then I give up🤷♂️🤷♂️

something just made Shogun 2 really good - i cant work it out...... Its like for some reason the devs who made shogun 2 left CA and it went downhill from then
Agree ,I think it's just simple but very balanced and we'll put together ,,,like a live board game

I think its the units, right now units feel like blobs of cats running after catnip, something about shogun made the units feel not only more alive but the combat actually looked legit.
@@diegolavega487 agree especially with the blood add-on,, I hate Attila
Tbh, Shogun 2 was super monotonous, every faction felt the same (even if it's a game based on Japan, they could have made different units for each faction, even if the difference isn't too big, it would have added flavour), battles were a rugby melee mess, AI was horrible in battle, agents were the most superpowered beings ever in any TW game, every unit fight was a 1 vs 1 soldier fight due to animations and the end game mechanic was awfuly thought. It had good things, and I enjoyed it, but it's far from being the best TW game in my opinion.
Shogun 1 was like on of the best Total Wars i have ever played in my Childhood!
Total War Shogun was my favourite. Avatar conquest was just way too good. Sad it wasn’t a thing in the future games.
Loved these games sense i was a kid, the music was amazing in pretty much all of them
I LOVE Shogun I and Medieval I interface and design of ivons etc. Graphics are obviously very dated but feel of these games are pure nostalgic bliss.
wow.
cool style!
my alltime favorite stays Med2
We Need an empire 2 or medieval 3.
That said, I'd be stoked for a modern WWII or something (I know it's overdone in shooter genre, but a massive gunfire total war would be cool. Been a while since one)
I kind of agree but I really think a Civil War era has a lot of potential, if it could include the entire North American Theater with the Caribbean and mesoamerica much like Empire but all the way to America's West Coast and even perhaps Alaska before the Russians sold it so I can be a corner faction with my Streltzy again, then go Stick it to both the North and the South for sucking 😄
I think there could be a lot of potential for that open American West, still lots of tribes who are free, Mexico still being a big player, and even the Mormon's Nauvoo Legion was big enough to Skirmish with the United States Army at one point before they decided to chill and become the Utah National Guard.
They've remade Rome a few times and done 3 warhammers. If they aren't going to make a LotR brand I at least want a new empire, Napoleonic war, or something in the medieval/dark ages based in Europe.
ARENA Total War was so massively underrated. So sad.
I'd say after looking at this, I've enjoyed the Warhammer and medieval series the most, hope in the future we could get a real third age total war, modders have done amazing to bring us what they have with divide and conquer but it's just not the same. Would also look forward to a medieval 3 with all the updated mechanics and the graphics they've implemented over the years if that's in any way possible

The real time battles of Medieval 2 hold up extremely well
We need a new Empire total war
The first mtw was fun af. I would create 4v4 scenarios. Those massive battles were my childhood
I have a lot of love for Total War Rome 2, besides being my favorite time, after patching it so many times, I can say that it is a totally recommended game. So far my favorite Total war. Until they launch a LOTR Total war: D
Same, rome 2 is my favourite
Best time period for a total war game for me
And LOTR total war sounds amazing
TW:WH is the most perfect warhammer game series to exist imo. It captures the essence of the universe so well
Rome Total War, Medieval 2 Total War and Empire Total War were the greatest of the franchise.
RIP total war arena. What a fucking great game that was
Kudos for the camera guy recording the ship battle of empire total war. Hands of steel with all that shaking lmao.
Shogun was the best..played the shit out of it
