Not going to lie, the way in which you did this sponsor segment was.... utterly bewildering. I honestly thought you were satirizing the shilling for this kind of thing for a hard moment. 😅 Like not even accusing you of anything! It just seems like your hype for it was very superficial, compared to say your.... manscaping ads. I doubt you will let this comment show on your sponsor reference post. Just want you to see this to let you know it could do with a bit of work.
A little bit of advice for more planned videos, I’d recommend you try just using cliff notes of what you want to talk about for each section. This one being fully scripted left it feeling quite wooden and we lost a lot of your natural charm that normally comes through. Congrats on getting a sponsor tho, and it was a great video with some nice editing that we don’t normally see!
This is some good constructive critisism! I get that he wanted to plan what to say and it probably also had something to do with the sponsor, but he sounded really weird an unnatural. Having cliff notes instead of the full script could work so much better.
Great to see Legend doing the scripted stuff, but to be honest if he started with:! Legend here and I’m about to tell you what the best five top total war games are! Now fack off 😅 (I can totally imagine him saying this)
@@SereglothIValso doing scripted videos are harder to do if you don’t do them regularly, speaking as a small UA-camr I prefer to go off topic more than scripted. Scripted requires an insane amount of dedication (this is my experience and I don’t claim to speak for others) if you do something consistently it becomes second nature
It's sooo damn good, not my most played or my fave but I think it had insane potential that was wasted by a dev team who seemed to have no idea what to do with it. I would love a fully developed max potential 3k2.
Funnily enough everything listed by Legend is some of the stuff I hate the most about it. Sure, figuring out generals that work together is fine when you have 2 armies. When you have 9 all over the place it's just a pain in the ass. But it did have a lot of potential that was never realized. Ironically potential that was never realized will always be my biggest issue with Total War games.
the diplomacy in 3k was genuinely revolutionary and I dearly wish they could have merged the forks between 3k and TWW3 to get that diplomacy system backported
In contrary to a lot of the comments, I like that you tried something different by writing a script. It did feel a bit unnatural but I feel that's expected with you trying something new and I could hear you feeling more comfortable with it in moments throughout the video. I'm sure it would feel more comfortable after a couple more like this and I wouldn't expect a script for videos such as Disaster Battle videos anyway Congrats on the sponsor and much respect for trying out some new things for yourself and the channel!!
Your personal taste in video games are completely wrong. I can’t believe you could be so wrong. My personal taste in games is right. You should educate yourself and take notes.

I'm so sad that so many people hate on Empire, I thought it was amazing with the tech tree, agents/gentlemen, line infantry and naval battles. Would really love to see Empire 2
@@unmeclambda5837 Thrones of Britannia was a fun playthrough for me, but I 100% used a mod that added stuff like population to towns among many other things.
All I want in a Total War games are : - Population mechanic from RTW1 and 2-3 slot recruitment from Med2 (The challenge for dev is to make the AI play competently and not exhaust its population) - Chivalry-Dreadful mechanic with battle system from Med2 - Procedural generated battle map Other than those, I don't care whether it's a historical or fantasy setting.
Personally Id also like the unit management of Med2 in general. Trying to upgrade/modify armies in Total Warhammer is an utterly byzantine and tedious process. In M2 I was just phasing in and out units from armies, modifying for purpose, trying new things and accounting for losses/limited unit replacement.
@@termitreter6545 There is a mod by BAGHolder for TWWH 3 called "Warband Upgrade Ultimate" you may want to check out. Pretty much gives every faction the warband upgrade system from Chaos so you can some what modify and upgrade your armies as you go.
@@termitreter6545 Yeah me too. Also, I like the way how city garrison system implemented. Basically you can decide what militia unit you want within its free upkeep garrison. Unlike the system, for example in TW Warhammer...
Just dropping a comment for the algorithm and to say I thoroughly enjoyed this (perhaps one-off) format ! Disregarding the reading part lacking a bit of emotion (only needs practice and thus is of no importance really), I cannot state how GREATLY I appreciate the effort that went into the text itself. It is complete, well structured and filled with all the comprehensive details to both fully explain your reasonings and present the games in the most complete manner. I always learn knew things about Total War when watching your videos but this format is, I find, both the richest in information and the most structured , which, in my opinion, makes it very, very pleasing and interesting to watch. The visual editing is a plus as well : these nice, cinematic shots are not only pleasing to the eyes but add content to the speech, with a (nice) touch of humour and/or by illustrating what is being said. Not sure if we'll see another production-heavy vid like that any time soon, but I do applaud the effort that when into this one, cheers !
LMAO OFF on the Attila reference “was designed for equipment that has been invented yet”! So true. I can run it on ULTRA but my laptop is literally hot enough to cook food on
Works fine of my computer on max settings, and my computer is cheap and five years old. Rome 2 on the other hand does not work great, and I've had continual problems with Napoleon.
@@toddblankenship7164 "to be HONEST I appreciate the boy for his HONESTY..." WTF did I write there 🥴 Hope you still get my drift, have a nice day, dear internet user 🙂
Some people dont like it, but honestly, I really like that Legend took his time to think about what he wanted to say. It feels more professional from channel of over half a milion subs. Are you planning on doing these top 5 videos again? You have made plenty of those years ago and new games were released in that time and opinions may have shifted. I would love you to redo your top 5 series in 2024/2025 in this scripted less-yapping format.
the soul of a warrior is forged in his blade the iron must be smelted for 3 days it must be folded to remove the impurities too hard and it will shatter, too soft and it will bend but forged correctly, it can cut through the clouds in flight- gentlemen, manned by a crew of 4 and capable of firing at over 200 rounds a minute, this is the gatling machine gun!
I get why he maybe wouldn't want to go into it, but not mentioning TATW when talking about Medieval II seems like a real oversight. Like, "mod support" in general as a perk is one thing, but I'd bet that a significant portion of the game's current playerbase (by Steam numbers, at least) are people running that conversion specifically.
Honestly I like the BOTET mod for Medieval Two a lot more than Total war Warhammer, the only thing I really like about Total War Warhammer is the design of the ui, everything else, the mechanics, the battles, they way all the units seem to float and have the weight of clouds, I just really regret spending the money honestly, BOTET is a great mod and perfectly represents the lore and vibe of the setting, on top of this medieval two remains a better game at its core than the newer titles, the mechanics and engine it brings still offer a great deal more potential than anything modern CA is able to deliver on.
IMO, the things that I like to see in future TWs: - Settlements' unlimited construction slots (as in TW Rome or Medieval 2) - Every settlement acting as an independent province with having a few minor towns (as in TW Empire or Shogun 2) - Improving garrison units by constructing every building - Implementing naval battles - Having food mechanics - Battle-map visible armour and weapon upgrade - Removing any AI cheats
I will say for Three Kingdoms, the fact that they don't cover the actual time of the Three Kingdoms period makes perfect sense. The Three Kingdoms period refers to the time between 220 and 263 when the Three Kingdoms of Cao Wei, Shu Han and Wu were actually relatively stable. There was tension but no major political change; borders mostly maintained their shape. I never understood this argument. 190 and 194 are the best start dates and match up with the bulk of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
I think if TW:WH had permadeath for everyone like classic TWs i'd give it more favour. The is no strategy, or tactics, or formation, to deal with a level 30 Tyrion running at you. Can i beat him? Yeah, of course. But it has nothing to do with any skill, ploy, ruse, or maneuver on my part.
@@SereglothIVdebatable for Americas. You only have three factions, one is so ridiculously more powerfull than the other two. And fighting in thick jungles must be the most painfull experience in this game.
Had to check twice if this was a LTW video, and I understand why such a huge difference in delivery, the sponsor. Really happy to see such a big sponsor. Congratulations!
The fact Total Warhammer doesn’t have the Avatar conquest mode is a crime…. Soooooo much potential in customizing your personal lord and army just like you’d do on the tabletop.
Hi legend, on the off chance you read this I just wanted to give you some feedback on the new format of the video. I appreciate the work that's gone into it, it's undoubtedly more concise and the cinematics really add to the experience especially for new viewers , that may ultimately help you in the algorithm. However as a a long time viewer I do appreciate the previous style of video where you have a habit of going off topic slightly and rambling about things normally not in the main script of todays video, i've learnt a lot from your off piste analysis. However It's all absolutely fine, It's sill a good video, I just don't want it to become 100% of your vids going forward. Your vids always felt so personable before and that's one of the main reasons i liked them. Also congrats on the new sponsor, that's really great for the channel :)
Hm, my list would be 1. Warhammer 3 2. Medieval 2 (especially the DAC mod) 3. Shogun 2 4. Fall of the Samurai 5. Empire/Napoleon (I have a soft spot for naval battles and musket warfare)
I never got into Warhammer until recently. I always felt overwhelmed jumping from historical tw to Warhammer. In July 2024 I made the jump and bought warhammer 3. I ended up buying all the games and DLC. I have all the achievements for it now. I LOVE it.
I don't agree with WH3 being #1. There is way too many bad things holding it back. Sieges, garrisons, minor settlements, diplomacy, combat animations, settlements in general, "naval", units sliding around unable to hit a single entity, Lords being giants compared to infantry, Karl Franz's armor is the wrong color still, ignoring some faction mechanics is "optimal play", some factions have been left in the dust and have barely been touched since the first game *Vampires*, the best armies consist of one unit being spammed, large parts of faction rosters should never be used, the AI has no idea what it is doing and routinely dukes its drawers during siege battles, the AI will rabidly go after the player at its own detriment for no reason, a lot of spells are very inefficient to use so you end up using the same ones over and over, Archaon looks stupid, power creep from DLC characters and factions, I'm sure you can add more to the list but these are the things I could think of. This is the one Total War that I play modded besides Empire just because of how much is wrong with it.
I was thinking about that too. In a sense Shogun 2 and TW3 are polar opposites. Shogun 2 doesn't have a lot of content to offer, but what is there is some of the most polished content CA ever released, meanwhile TW3 has tons of content but most of it is a mess of bugs and unpolished stuff that got piled on over the years.
Vampires are still one of the strongest factions in the game, that's likely why they don't add new things for them. Vampire Coast on the other hand have a unit roster where over 90% of units are just unusable forcing people into Necrofex spam which gets tired fast. They need a huge rework and either remove or rework the countless units that do absolutely nothing.
If this video were talking about multiplayer, i could understand tww3 being near the top, but singleplayer in this game is ridiculously bad compared to any title that came out before it
I mean, I recognise that you did list a lot of things there, many of which I can't dispute (and I firmly agree about sieges), but... "Karl Franz's armour is the wrong colour still"? Right, because NONE of the other TWs have ANY minor inaccuracies like that.
I've been randomly watching a ton of your older content, including all the old Top 5's you used to do and loving them. This just came across my suggested content feed and I assumed it was years ago too, but super happy to see it's coming out today instead. Love the content, Legend!
Dude it looks like you’ve been still doing fantastic. Great to see! Nothing but growth and I’m so glad! You rock, been watching your stuff for man has to be almost a decade now. I’ve never been huge oh Warhammer 2 but I’ve loved the other ones and especially your stainless steel playthroughs, mtw2 in general, and rome, really all of them. You’re great to learn from; always appreciate your stuff cheers for the growth!
video is very clearly read from a script and i'm not sure i like it. perhaps legend just isn't used to reading a script because his content has almost always been more free-form talking? i understand that some audience are turned off by so-called 'yapping' and i appreciate that he's experimenting with his content to try and improve it. but it doesn't sound like 'legendoftotalwar' if that makes sense haha
I’ve played Rome 1 & 2, Shogun 2: Fall of the samurai, Empire and Attila. I only really spent any real time with Rome 1 and 2. I got Warhammer 1 around release but I did not enjoy it. Now, I recently bought Warhammer 3 with almost all the race packs on sale. This is for sure my favorite total war game of all time. It has been maybe 2 weeks but I have never had so much fun with a total war game before. It costs a lot, especially if you have an interest in pretty much all the races like me. To me, it has been worth every penny. Whenever I start a new campaign I am happily overwhelmed by all the faction choices that are available and I know that I would love to replay all the campaigns I’ve tried so far. There is so much content, it’s the best kind of insane 🙏🏻
Hey Legend, given your love of Med 2 and TATW, I'd love to see you play Divide and Conquer sometime. IMO it's the greatest Med 2 experience, for the unit diversity, campaign design, and all the love and polish poured into it over the years. It even fixes the stack spam that Med 2 usually devolves into (especially Stainless Steel).
Your video style has really changed and gotten a lot better over the years. It's really nice to see. Looking forwards to hopefully many more years of your videos.
I liked both videos, but the second was more free flowing and sounded more natural and fun to listen to. Would recommend creating bullet points for key points you want to cover but not fully scripting it. Cheers.
Personally, I prefer this kind of videos rather than non scripted videos which sometimes seems they are improvised. This is more "profesional" and clear
Medieval 2, particularly with the Stainless Steel Mod Shogun 2 Rome 1 Attila Warhammer II, with Juggernaut999's rebirth mod Honorary Mention goes to Napoleon
@@irishtom30 Stainless Steel is an overhaul mod for Medieval II that works according to an approach I think of as "the same game, but more!" The map is enlarged, there's more factions and more units. There's more customization and two different start dates to play. The various expansions such as Crusades and Teutonic have some of their elements folded back into the base game. It's the sort of mod that just makes the game better at what it's already good at.
Two TW games that I hold above the rest though did not age great is the classic Rome total war, and the disliked Empire total war. Shotgun 2 is also goated.
I loved that you still threw hands with Atilla through the script. Definitely prefer your rambling style, like I'm genuinely hearing your thoughts though you did a great job regardless.
I've been playing napoleon and shogun recently. MoSS mod for shogun is still a ridiculous overhaul i come back to every few years. (but quite a lot of campaign content bloat ngl, so many units, so many buildings, the base game is itself such a fun streamlined experience, but if you want more campaign features, try it out!). Unlike Attila (which Legend mentioned at 1:52) Napoleon did eventually (aka last year... when they were forced to go back and removed chat from all the games) get a fix for its small issue of not running on modern hardware, and its still to me a far more polished and enjoyable experience to anyone who liked Empire TW. SS and SSHIP for M2TW are other mods I'd recommend.
Total war sounds and music was way to loud in the beginning compared to voice. Also you seemed to be a bit far from the mic as it sounded a reverby. Great video content though :)
I'm surprised Attila didn't make the list. It has a lot going for it in spite of it's flaws, and I would have put it over Rome. Especially when Medieval 2 is on the list, basically an upgraded version of the same game.
It does sound a little stilted, like reading from a script. Kinda like youtubers reading sponsor ads in the middle of their content. So I would recommend using bullet points to hit key topics instead. and using your natural voice. But I was still entertained and watched the whole video. All praise the holy algorithm.
For someone that usually doesn't edit videos apart from cutting out load times (as far as I can see anyway), this was some top tier editing dude! Edit: I suddenly remembered you studied this, it shows :P
Empire Total War, now that is not on release, is genuinely a great Total War game in a very unique setting(the latest of any Total War game to date) that still receives a ton of hate from people who either remember its release state(which was atrocious) or never bothered learning its intricacies to actually use its systems well. It still has its flaws of course but it's far better than most Total War fans give it credit for(even unmodded). Likewise Rome2/Attila(basically the same game, blasphemy I know, much like RTW and BI only sold separately and with tons of DLCs for both) now(as opposed to on release) is a very solid Total War game. It has its drawbacks of course like the whole city/province management but it did a lot of things right too. With all that said, Total War boils down to 2 main aspects: campaign and battles. In terms of battles it's Shogun 2>Medieval 2/Rome 1, Rome1/Medieval 2>everything else. In terms of campaign its all over the place as it depends on which campaign mechanics you personally prefer, like say whether you like or dislike the province system from Rome 2 and onwards or how much value you put on diplomacy with the AI. To me Three Kingdoms is absolutely not a top 4 Total War game because all it really has is diplomacy, and that's not why I play Total War. I mean yeah, I wish the other Total War games had a better diplomacy system, but that alone doesn't make a good Total War game Imho and the rest of Three Kingdoms is meh at best. Similarly while I do like Warhammer(well I only played 2, not 3) I do absolutely prefer the older Total Wars mentioned above in terms of battles as ever since CA changed to stats driven combat rather than the old system combat just doesn't feel as good, despite all the variety Warhammer has to offer, and is also the reason why I value Three Kingdom's battles so low.
Honestly, quite liked it. It was much more concise than usual, which makes sense when you got a script. The Sponsoring felt VERY "someone holds a gun to my head, I am forced to say this", but the actual rating of the games was quite alright. With more practice and time to get used to it I am sure this could feel even more natural while keeping the benefits a script brings. Also lmao @ 6:00. Offering food to a starving man and asking a food-producing settlement in return 🤣🤣
As someone who has usually played more multiplayer than singleplayer in tw games the multiplayer of shogun 2 always threw me off. I don't wanna have to level in order to have the same opportunity as my opponent nor do I want to have an advantage just based on the time I have put in
I love battles in Rome Total War for being shock and awe. Battles are seldom won through attrition, the battle is one in only a few moments where one side starts to break and the panic spreads. You can win a battle by only killing 10% of the enemy
NGL Medieval Total War 1 is an absolute banger. I started playing it again last year and had a great time. Its a LOT more challenging that Medieval 2 as well. You can start at 3 time periods and tehy basically function as difficulties, early is easy to even sometimes hard, high is medium to hard and late is hard to even near impossible with some. Much more of a 4x the live combat is weaker but that 4x is really cool, set up in a chessboard style. And my god is trade powerful. You have to do a lot more of governor watching though. Positive and negative traits have a lot of power. If you try to play though you need to set the resolution in game to a higher size or it crashes a few yerars into the campaign. Idk why it both breaks and corrects it but it fixes it.
I like your list. You are right, they are made from our personal bias and opinions :) You have some awesome suggestions. Just in case; here are mine. 1) Warhammer III - just like you I think it is a fantastic game and I like nothing better than using magic. For me the biggest selling point is the unit diversity. I like diverse armies and my favorite battles are the ones where both armies have at least 5 or 6 different kind of units and not just a spam of two or three different ones. 2) Pharao Dynasties - I felt this was a huge failure when it dropped, but it has now become an awesome title. Is it perfect? Of course not, but this is currently my most played TW game and though I think I will be going back to Warhammer III come the next DLC, playing as Babylon or the Peleset or Troy just tickles me in the right way. 3) Rome II - Personally I feel this is the best classic TW game right now. Its not medieval II, its not Shogun II, but it has just the right amount of depth where needed, it has a ton of different cultures and it is probably better than Pharao Dynasties if I am honest. So why third place? I've played it until boredom, but it is definitely a good game to pick up if one doesn't have it. 4) Napoleon - I know a lot of people prefer Empire for its greater world and campaign, but Napoleon simply feels a bit better for me. The game is a bit too small, one could argue its almost in the category of the smaller games like Thrones of Britannia, but it is also as far as I am concerned the best musket and cannon game out there to this day. 5) Three Kingdoms - pretty much the same reasons you gave. I haven't played it for a while, but it is one of the deepest TW games and it has a very good setting and lovely atmosphere. I can get lost in this game almost forgetting to play it and simply go through the characters or stop near a city to hear the hub and bustle of the place. It might have my favorite music. For me, Shogun and Medieval II didn't quite make the top 5. Doesn't mean I don't love them, but Shogun's campaign was never all that fun for me, though I loved the battles and using agents in this game. Medieval II, while it has fun battles and I do enjoy how units evolve visually with upgrades, for me it hasn't aged well. I tried playing a couple of campaigns earlier this year, and the most fun I had was with a Danish one, but overall the game has become slow and cumbersome, yet with what feels like too small a campaign map. Medieval II was a lot more fun back in the day, but the newer titles have spoiled me. I should also mention Empire. It misses the list for many of the same reasons. Of all the above games it is perhaps the one that feels the oldest, despite being newer than Medieval II. Napoleon, though a smaller game, simply does many of the things Empire did better. I'm an old player, and have played ever single TW game, more or less as they came out, even TW Alexander. Alexander, Britannia and Pharao was probably the only games I didn't like as they came out, and Pharao they've managed to save with Pharao Dynasties.
Good points. "The sieges have been dreadful the entire way form WH1 to 3 and yet somehow they keep getting worse.. siege rework rework when?" LOL I was talking about the sieges in WH3 with a friend yesterday and this line sums it all up. ...also congrats on the W sponsor :)
my list before watching: 1 Shogun 2 2 Warhammer (i dont put a number bec i see 2 and 3 as updates basically) 3rome/barbarian invasion 4rome 2 5attila (i didn't play medival 2, i only had rome /barbarian invasion in my childhood and its still my go to old school tw)
good video, I do like your free form stuff more, but this was a long video that I can see needed a bit more of a script. It does kind of sound like an ad though
The remaster has some nice touches there and then, but more importantly uncapped provinces, factions... which is massive for modding. That's the main reason why I want a M2 Remaster
Keep up the videos brother, know you’re getting a lot of comments about the script reading but you’re informative as always Long time subscriber and you even saved one of my TW2 camps once keep being a legend and producing quality content!
I really appreciate the amount of effort that's gone into this. It's got detailed substance behind the opinions and it's opened my eyes to some of the titles. I've always enjoyed your content, and I genuinely enjoyed this informative and professional work. Thanks for everything you do. FWIW; my titles of choice would be WH3 > 3K > Shogun2. I do have both Medieval2 and Attila though i've yet to play them (Steam sales). Take care.
You goddamn Australian, I Just Love the text that you put out for this one. I bet that you always make some sort of script, and this one is amazing lol
Still playing Medieval 2 baby! Medieval 2 is like that old friend, who's always got your back, never demands your attention, but always shows you a good time whenever you decide to hang out with them.
Great video. I don't like playing Warhammer myself but variety- and contentwise it's better than the others so it deserves to be #1. I hope they let some outside company develop medieval 3; I don't want to see Richard Lionheart casting spells or have a medieval battle last 3 minutes.
I'm glad to see a top 5 video they're a guilty pleasure of mine, although I would say legend sounds a bit too much like Chat GPT in this video, look forward to the next one!
I think people sleep on Three Kingdoms so much. If it had a mode where you didn't lose if you didn't rescue the emperor, it would be perfect as far as historical TW goes IMO.
Cut Scenes and Papal Elections in ME II made it my all time favourite. TW III is probably better but its streamlined, and you don't get the ME II Cut Scenes, Map Agent Actions, Family Trees, dismounting before a Battle, scheduling your Reinforcements like you actually command them and Fanatics in Cowls who looked adorable. There was so much you could tinker with making your little World a better place and scheming to slowly expand your Empire. I can't ever remember a time when the Player Base was angry about ME II but its been a while.
Hey Legend and other viewers. I'm looking around about Three Kingdoms. Is there a fun campaing you played live I could watch to form a opinion about the game? What would you recommend?
My only issue with Medieval 2 is the camera controls.. to a small degree the unit controls as well, alt drag is is such a hard habit to break, thanks for the great video Legend
WH 3 is easily the one with the most potentially and also the one with the most missed potential and strange design/balancing decisions. Mods are absolutely crucial to make it into a great experience
Legend your list is amazing. It different than my list, but I love your opinion. My top 5 total war 1)Medieval 2 2)Warhammer 3 3)Rome 4)Empire 5)Shogun 2
1. troy (I really like not having to micro manage cavalry and I use light infantry for that role and they don't die if they get stuck in) 2. warhammer (I like the all of the variety and i'm a sucker for a fantasy setting) 3. rome (my first total war and i like the setting better than the medieval period) 4. medieval 2 ( Its like rome which i love I just don't care for the setting) 5. shogun (it is very good but its in the part of total war games that I just can't wrap my head around the limited building slots and their pitifully small bonuses for some buildings)
personally i think of the biggest benefits of warhammer 3 is the diffrence between the factions, in historical games obviously most factions are pretty similar, but in fantasy even the humans play almost entirely difrenf from one another

Idk if you watched his super old Medieval 2 videos some of them sound scripted. This sound exactly like that.
Nothing sounds natural when you listen in 1.5 or more :)
I’m so happy in spite of all its fatal flaws, three kingdoms made this list. It’s a beautifully ambitious game- and was killed off too early.
it's basicaly the best modern historical title
It's sooo damn good, not my most played or my fave but I think it had insane potential that was wasted by a dev team who seemed to have no idea what to do with it. I would love a fully developed max potential 3k2.
Yes. It has the most potential.
I love playing it back then
Funnily enough everything listed by Legend is some of the stuff I hate the most about it.
Troy number 1? Never thought i'd see the day!
TROY SWEEP
love the bait
It makes sense really, Troy just got it all tbh and you even have trojan horses
why would you lie to me? im really not cool with this. say hi to your general doctor for me
Wait, i thought it was Pharoah
In contrary to a lot of the comments, I like that you tried something different by writing a script. It did feel a bit unnatural but I feel that's expected with you trying something new and I could hear you feeling more comfortable with it in moments throughout the video. I'm sure it would feel more comfortable after a couple more like this and I wouldn't expect a script for videos such as Disaster Battle videos anyway
Congrats on the sponsor and much respect for trying out some new things for yourself and the channel!!
Your personal taste in video games are completely wrong. I can’t believe you could be so wrong. My personal taste in games is right. You should educate yourself and take notes.

Justice for Attila! If only it got similar subsequent attention than Rome 2... 😢

Attila is truly best
Empire at number 1 is crazy
Not as crazy as Thrones of Britannia as number 2
The Empire Endures!!!
Empire is perfect
All I want in a Total War games are :
- Population mechanic from RTW1 and 2-3 slot recruitment from Med2 (The challenge for dev is to make the AI play competently and not exhaust its population)
- Chivalry-Dreadful mechanic with battle system from Med2
- Procedural generated battle map
Other than those, I don't care whether it's a historical or fantasy setting.
Personally Id also like the unit management of Med2 in general. Trying to upgrade/modify armies in Total Warhammer is an utterly byzantine and tedious process. In M2 I was just phasing in and out units from armies, modifying for purpose, trying new things and accounting for losses/limited unit replacement.
i kinda like the General upgrading from Shogun 2, instead of hoping for a specific trait like Infantry master or whatever from M2

I agree, not enough love for the actual words. Too much focus on the delivery. But hey, he's an entertainer, so it's part of the job too.
LMAO OFF on the Attila reference “was designed for equipment that has been invented yet”! So true. I can run it on ULTRA but my laptop is literally hot enough to cook food on
We might just get lucky and the hardware it was designed for will release in the next decade 😁

Are you planning on doing these top 5 videos again? You have made plenty of those years ago and new games were released in that time and opinions may have shifted.
I would love you to redo your top 5 series in 2024/2025 in this scripted less-yapping format.

Legend rarely plays any modded total war games so he can’t honestly give a good review of something he doesn’t play or use
I bet this new sponsor is much more profitable than most of his other sponsors. Great to see!
IMO, the things that I like to see in future TWs:
- Settlements' unlimited construction slots (as in TW Rome or Medieval 2)
- Every settlement acting as an independent province with having a few minor towns (as in TW Empire or Shogun 2)
- Improving garrison units by constructing every building
- Implementing naval battles
- Having food mechanics
- Battle-map visible armour and weapon upgrade
- Removing any AI cheats
I will say for Three Kingdoms, the fact that they don't cover the actual time of the Three Kingdoms period makes perfect sense. The Three Kingdoms period refers to the time between 220 and 263 when the Three Kingdoms of Cao Wei, Shu Han and Wu were actually relatively stable. There was tension but no major political change; borders mostly maintained their shape. I never understood this argument. 190 and 194 are the best start dates and match up with the bulk of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
That's the single most well-edited legend's video, lol. Very nice work, man!
The ruse is to ambush him twice, hide and wait for him to calmly walk off the battlefield only to get wiped out. :c)
If all five arent the original Medieval, the list is wrong.
Edit: the list is wrong!
1. Medieval II
2. Medieval II: Crusades
3. Medieval II: Britannia
4. Medieval II: Teutonic
5. Medieval II: America
😂
Original Medieval doesn't get enough love. The soundtrack alone is amazing.

@@SereglothIVdebatable for Americas. You only have three factions, one is so ridiculously more powerfull than the other two. And fighting in thick jungles must be the most painfull experience in this game.

1: Shogun 2

Hm, my list would be
1. Warhammer 3
2. Medieval 2 (especially the DAC mod)
3. Shogun 2
4. Fall of the Samurai
5. Empire/Napoleon (I have a soft spot for naval battles and musket warfare)
I would kill for empire with napoleon ai and stability
I'm still waiting for a day they will finally do Empire 2
Shogun 2 and Fall of the Samurai are the same game.
@@BalthasarGelt-x2d They're not, especially for those of us who bought them separately
I never got into Warhammer until recently. I always felt overwhelmed jumping from historical tw to Warhammer. In July 2024 I made the jump and bought warhammer 3. I ended up buying all the games and DLC. I have all the achievements for it now. I LOVE it.
Aye that’s a nice fucking sponsor you got there mate, good for you
I don't agree with WH3 being #1.
If this video were talking about multiplayer, i could understand tww3 being near the top, but singleplayer in this game is ridiculously bad compared to any title that came out before it
@@shetlandapache949 I preferred 2 to 3 but it's considerably better than 1.

2. Medieval 2 Total War
3. Empire Total War
4. Shogun 2 Total War

You’re great to learn from; always appreciate your stuff cheers for the growth!
video is very clearly read from a script and i'm not sure i like it. perhaps legend just isn't used to reading a script because his content has almost always been more free-form talking?
i understand that some audience are turned off by so-called 'yapping' and i appreciate that he's experimenting with his content to try and improve it. but it doesn't sound like 'legendoftotalwar' if that makes sense haha
probably has more to do with the sponsor asking to see and approve a script as part of the agreement
Tbf this video seems to be more aimed at people newer to his channel, the veterans probably already knew his opinions
No one cares
Are we back with Top 5 videos? great!
This video is absolutely amazing! The commentating is superb, everything about it is just great. More videos like this when?
Hey Legend, given your love of Med 2 and TATW, I'd love to see you play Divide and Conquer sometime. IMO it's the greatest Med 2 experience, for the unit diversity, campaign design, and all the love and polish poured into it over the years. It even fixes the stack spam that Med 2 usually devolves into (especially Stainless Steel).
Your video style has really changed and gotten a lot better over the years. It's really nice to see. Looking forwards to hopefully many more years of your videos.
Cool video! Making me think about going back to Medieval 2 or Shogun 2 cuz when I played those as a kid I was such a noob lol
Medieval 2 is a masterpiece, it’ll always be my number 1, even getting close to 20 years old
Medieval 2, particularly with the Stainless Steel Mod
Shogun 2
Rome 1
Attila
Warhammer II, with Juggernaut999's rebirth mod
Honorary Mention goes to Napoleon
What does the stainless steel mod change?
@@irishtom30 Adds units, factions, expands the map by about 1/5, focuses on historical accuracy.
@@irishtom30 Stainless Steel is an overhaul mod for Medieval II that works according to an approach I think of as "the same game, but more!"
The map is enlarged, there's more factions and more units.

4 Empire
3 Rome

1 Shogun 2
Funny your sponsor is Asus Rog, I just got my Asus Rog G16 and I'm having a blast with it playing WH3, R2, Attila and Empire
Btw legend the script reading is good. Well explained. Especially your reasons. Needs to be done sometimes. Well done.
PLEASE MAKE MORE CONTENT LIKE THIS !!!
I like your disaster battles and streams, but this I LOVE
I agree with basically everything you said. I gotta say, if Dynasties gets a Mythos dlc, it would very likely get in my top 5
Liked the high quality vid, something different but very entertaining
So glad to see Three Kingdoms getting some love, great video and list legend
As someone who has usually played more multiplayer than singleplayer in tw games the multiplayer of shogun 2 always threw me off.
I don't wanna have to level in order to have the same opportunity as my opponent nor do I want to have an advantage just based on the time I have put in
This is one of the best videos you've done. Would love to see a video on mods you recommend
Totally agree with this list, no wonder I am a long time follower of this channel. Keep up the good work Legend!
I love battles in Rome Total War for being shock and awe. Battles are seldom won through attrition, the battle is one in only a few moments where one side starts to break and the panic spreads. You can win a battle by only killing 10% of the enemy
Very good list. been playing since medieval 1, and I cant find any faults with your list or arguments.
You know it's gonna be a spicy good video when Legend makes his first Attilla jab already in the ad section

good video, I do like your free form stuff more, but this was a long video that I can see needed a bit more of a script. It does kind of sound like an ad though
The remaster has some nice touches there and then, but more importantly uncapped provinces, factions... which is massive for modding. That's the main reason why I want a M2 Remaster
Keep up the videos brother, know you’re getting a lot of comments about the script reading but you’re informative as always

U man are real legend. Glad u ripping the benefits. Thank for all the content from Poland 🇵🇱
Hope to see some more Medieval 2 disaster battles/campaigns come in. Or maybe even a campaign live stream. Love the content either way
Great video. I don't like playing Warhammer myself but variety- and contentwise it's better than the others so it deserves to be #1. I hope they let some outside company develop medieval 3; I don't want to see Richard Lionheart casting spells or have a medieval battle last 3 minutes.
Great video, Legend is still the best channel covering TW after all these years.
I'm glad to see a top 5 video they're a guilty pleasure of mine, although I would say legend sounds a bit too much like Chat GPT in this video, look forward to the next one!
You're getting pretty close to CA in subscibers 👀👀
Also another thing, Medieval 2's tutorial seems to be bugged where you just simply could not disembark your ship on your point
I think people sleep on Three Kingdoms so much. If it had a mode where you didn't lose if you didn't rescue the emperor, it would be perfect as far as historical TW goes IMO.
A great video as always, keep em coming legend ❤
Cut Scenes and Papal Elections in ME II made it my all time favourite. TW III is probably better but its streamlined, and you don't get the ME II Cut Scenes, Map Agent Actions, Family Trees, dismounting before a Battle, scheduling your Reinforcements like you actually command them and Fanatics in Cowls who looked adorable. There was so much you could tinker with making your little World a better place and scheming to slowly expand your Empire. I can't ever remember a time when the Player Base was angry about ME II but its been a while.
Do appreciate a well thought out video!
My top 5 total war
1)Medieval 2
2)Warhammer 3
3)Rome
4)Empire
5)Shogun 2
1. troy (I really like not having to micro manage cavalry and I use light infantry for that role and they don't die if they get stuck in)
2. warhammer (I like the all of the variety and i'm a sucker for a fantasy setting)
3. rome (my first total war and i like the setting better than the medieval period)
4. medieval 2 ( Its like rome which i love I just don't care for the setting)
5. shogun (it is very good but its in the part of total war games that I just can't wrap my head around the limited building slots and their pitifully small bonuses for some buildings)
personally i think of the biggest benefits of warhammer 3 is the diffrence between the factions, in historical games obviously most factions are pretty similar, but in fantasy even the humans play almost entirely difrenf from one another
