Golden Fleece, Tone King Amp and Custom Gibson pickups. As soon I as heard that Golden Fleece I jumped to go and buy one but that I wondered if it was more of the super expensive guitar, amp and pedal combo that made that tone plus Paul’s magic touch on the track in post...💭 🤔 💭 🤔....I’ll probably buy the pedal either way. Rhett, have you heard the Jimi Hendrix “ Machine Gun “ Live at the Isle of Wight and the Live at the Atlanta Pop Festival “ Hear my Train A’ Comin “ fuzz tone? That two are the pinnacle of all fuzz tones for me.
      * Update - Bought the new edition of Golden Fleece, well updated graphics, and it’s so good. Totally different than any other fuzz I’ve owned or played and it’s extremely dynamic. I love mini pedals that pack a big punch and have one knob simply labels “ More “ Now looking at the High Road which has a little more gain. ( and the Pettyjohn fuzz as well 😉)

Golden Fleece. Love mine. It sounds totally different turned down. The woolyness goes away and it becomes a very nice bright distortion. There's a video with Greg Koch trying one and while he's digging the full on sound, when he turns the guitar down his face lights up. Zach intended it to be that way. My take on it. ua-cam.com/video/SihPjyK0lF4/v-deo.html If only I could play like either of you guys.

Best way to pay tribute to Jimi is to play the hell out of your guitar every day with passion and creativity. He wasn't a guy that sought after ultra rare or expensive guitars, he just made do with whatever he had. He didn't even bother to track down a left handed Strat, he just flipped a right handed one upside down. Highly doubt that he would have cared for fancy reissues like these.

Yes and I think he would not want his stepsister who might I add was 5 at the time of his death to copyright all his songs and not make them available to people who don’t have music streaming services and I think the way they have treated Jimi after his death I feel like if he would have come back today they he would be appalled by the way these big corporations are making money off a dead man.

To whom it may concern; Jimi's custom Flying V did not end up with Tappy after Jimi died. As a matter of fact, Tappy only did occasional work for Jimi very early on. Of the three electric guitars that followed Jimi on his last European tour, one that had to be aborted on September 6, 1970 due to basist Billy Cox's declining health, all ended up with Jimi in London. After his untimely death some weeks later, the olympic white 1968 Stratocaster ended up with drummer Mitch Mitchell (who sold it in 1990), the black 1968 Stratocaster ended up with girlfriend Monika Dannemann (after her suicide in 1996 it went to her then boyfriend Uli Jon Roth) - and the custom 1969/1970 Flying V ended up with roadie Eric Barrett (who's sold it to the Hard Rock Cafe in 1985.

Ever since I was about 8 years old I’ve revered Jimi as the most one of a kind player to ever live, yet I learned through this video that he played an SG at one point.
By the way. I’ve never had any interest in music lesson like videos or channels. But Paul Davids... man you go above and beyond every video. You have awesome video ideas and you deliver them in the greatest of ways. I’ve played since I was a little kid, I had lessons all throughout elementary to high school, and did nothing but music up until high school. I never wanted to make a career of it, nor have I ever tried. For me, guitar is the best life long hobby that I’ll ever have. I’m eternally grateful that my older brother got me into playing at a young age. I hadn’t wanted to make any actual attempt at excelling with my music in years!! But thanks to your channel I’ve found that itch to learn more again. Other than your extensive knowledge and talent, I really appreciate your demeanor and personality. I think that’s what sets you apart from most channels similar to what you do. You rock man, thank you for sharing your passion and what you know with us.
FYI. I haven’t wanted a new guitar since getting my Martin made from part Formica, as well as my 59 Danelectro... but that Flying V catches the eye for sure.

Dear Mr Davids, Thank you for a very informative and entertaining videocast. Your expertise is mind-boggling and one can only imagine what you must sound like backing a songwriter like me, for example! At 10 grand a crack, those Hendrix inspired Gibsons do one thing very well. At least, with you playing them they sound incredibly good, the tone is sublime, mellow and it gets you right between the eyes and equally in the solar plexus. We have to remember Jimi Hendrix, like Jim Morrison, like Janis Joplin and many others, all left the physical world at 27 years old. 2 + 7 equals which is the last number and means then end of a cycle. One of the ancient Greek philosphers is quoted as saying, "He who the gods love most, die young." Many have left the world on the number 9, and, like Hendrix, may have died young, but Jimi has left his magic for all of us to hear; all of the greats have kept us young in the music they left behind. And you, you have their talent and ability to play like Hendrix, and you also are going to make many, many people feel good, but also feel young forever with your terriffic playing. If the gods will it, maybe one day I can have you play your magic on one of my tunes, but whatever you do. Make you CD Paul; make a CD of your best. Be well, stay well, play guitar forever Paul Davids; the gods will it-

I guess when Jimi had 'em they didn't have dings all over them. I still think that dings are a bit fake.
You'd be wrong that they are unaffordable, though. There are so many tech people, bankers and lawyers about these days. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer. They could have sold out a double run of those guitars for the same money.
But things like this are made for two reasons:
    1. A great PR story - as evidenced by this video.
    2. They recalibrate consumer expectations of price. At $10k a pop, that starts to make $5k Gibsons look like a snip. It's a very old trick in luxury goods marketing.
You have not been charged for this marketing lesson.

While I find the marketing for these guitars filled with assumption on “what Jimi thought/did/said..” very annoying, I must also remind many whining about the price and also assuming Jimi would have detested expensive guitars, that the 1967 Flying V was priced at $345 which is equivalent to $2,694.71 in 2020. So he played pricey guitars. Even strats weren’t cheap in the 50s and 60s (similarly priced to the Flying V) So adding the limited nature of this run, the cosmetic work done in aging (may dislike it but it is more labor cost) and the collectibility of the name , Gibson isn’t asking for a ton of money really. That is if you want a collectible. Of course, if you don’t like them, remember Gibson isn’t making you buy them. I won’t be buying one.

Epiphone Inspired By Gibson ‘61 SG’s are pretty damned good. I tried one side-by-side with the direct Gibson equivalent in a shop.
The veneer on the Epi was mildly disappointing but tonally there’s not much difference. Certainly not enough (for me) to justify the Gibson being nearly four times the price.
As for signature models or Gibson relic guitars, I was asking about these in Sixty Sixty Sounds in London, who specialise in them. The antique crackle effect on the glaze is apparently hand done by a guy with a scalpel and the fogging on the metal work again hand done by treating them with acid and various other chemicals.
This explains the price tag. I also asked who buys them and the answer, sadly, was ‘mainly very rich Russians’ I suspect they get hung on a wall and never played or just kept in the cases in a bank vault as an ‘investment’ like vintage wine that never gets drunk.
