there are so many ways he is talented but my favorite one of them all is his ability to tell a story. He says he loves color I just hoped he knew he was the color streaking off his brush and across his page and so many people are touched by this still. I miss him because I feel like I didn't even get to know him but he will always live on.

Blackmore once said: Hendrix was a better singer than he was a guitarist, and that he (Blackmore) could sweep the floor with any guitarist in the world. If Blackmore's ability was as big as his ego, he may have one day become a great guitarist.

Blackmore was the most impressive guitarist I've ever seen. He could play rings around about 95%of people who ever picked up the instrument.
Jimi was always thinking so far ahead and was so natural and matter of fact about the spiritual purpose of music’s power to foster consciousness. He was aware of the divisions between old/young, black/white, uptight or open minded. He proudly lived between all worlds, between all levels of consciousness. In his 27 years, his visionary sense was benevolent and a futurist in terms of seeing music build a higher consciousness. He seemed 270 in terms of awareness, and he was 2700 in terms of wisdom, and who knows where it all came from? I believe he was a gift it takes generations to really understand. Great interview here and one I have not heard before.

I love classic rock and Jimi Hendrix, but God please help the mindless and stupid classic rock fans that have to be some of the most backwards thinking and closed-minded people in this world. I was 13 years old when Jimi died. I cried. I already had albums, Electric Ladyland, and a couple others. Rainbow Bridge is my fave. Awesome solo acoustic "Hey Baby". He is and always be in my memories.

I like the way Jimi thinks and talks, it's like he works out the answer completely then speaks. He talks quietly and slowly but his answers are explosive.

Everyone is hating on the interviewer, but I think she's a nice lady and Jimi clearly likes her, even if the interview is a bit jumbled. The conversation flows nicely and naturally. I guess that's the thing, it's more of a conversation than an interview in parts. It's nice to hear Jimi just talk casually on a variety of subjects, and she contributed to creating that atmosphere, beyond having some interesting things to say herself. So don't hate, celebrate.
She is great as is the interview but not some of the 'little woman' knows nothing, is a lousy interviewer not a ROCK Journalist douche 'professional' like Howard Stern who does LOUSY interviews as he never lets the interviewee actually talk while her questions opened Jimi up to the discussion so well.
Compared to so many of the dudes he was interview by back then, this lady is a saint. Most guys didn’t care for his way of thinking and just seemed to want to get through the interview. This lady actually seems to give a shit and, even if she doesn’t understand it, tries to vibe with Jimi’s creativity.
There weren't any standard answers or canned responses like there are now. It was common back then for artists to speak their minds and interviewers who also did their thing with minimal boundaries.
She's obviously reading prepared questions which makes it a bit stiff, but I read on another site that the interview was for her master's thesis so that's understandable. What's good is she gives Jimi time to riff and ramble, and she is better when she goes off script. The end product is great. Also very cool that Jimi would give an interview to someone for a project that was no benefit to him.
Oh how times have changed, but so much is still the same. We need more people, musicians, thinkers and freedom seekers sharing thoughts nowadays. I want to be one of them, and you can be too, you very well may be one of us that are trying to break through to make the whole airwaves vibrate with peace and love for all sentient beings. June 2014, 45 years later, I sit and listen to this interview of a talented , beautiful, genius. Jimi still is 'our future'. (I love his voice. The Interviewer was annoying!!!) Great interview though. Jimi was down to earth. He was not in love with money. He was in love with music and connecting with the people. Love that man.
August 2021, 52 years later, I lay down and listen to this interview and appreciate everything about Hendrix: from his voice, singing, the way he plays, the way he practice, how he could play all day, his influence, standing up for black folks, setting and example for future artist to be inspired, and changing the world during a time of need.
Jimi's words and emphasis in this interview on bridging the gap between old and young minds is timeless, and his music accomplishes just that to this very day.

I love how he was perceived by the interviewer. She treated him as a star, a counter culture figure, a musician, a performer, and recording artist, which is what he was. What a change. These days he is regarded as a guitarist and only a guitarist. The emphasis is on the guitar, amps, effects, practice time, blah blah blah. The guitar nerds have taken over and have rewritten history.
You've got it backward. When he was alive, other musicians respected him even if they didn't understand him. Those who did, loved him. To the older generations, he was just another long-haired hippie who played his guitar so loud and distorted it wasn't music, but an abomination of what music was supposed to be. Back then, so many bands wrote "message songs" with lyrics in plain English that anyone could understand. If you didn't really pay attention to Jimi, you would not get his message. Today, the older generations are his generation. We understand who he really was. Even younger generations understand his effort to spread love and peace. I don't know what your idea of a guitar nerd is. I do know that guitarists will always appreciate his music. Some mimic him while others rearrange his music. Some do alright. Some have mastered the Hendrix style. Other musicians will never consider him as just a guitarist because he was never just another guitarist. If he was, you would hear the heavy influence from other guitarists in all his music. Musicians who master their instrument to the level of creating a whole new style of playing it are relatively few. They don't come along every day. Who do you think inspired the effects you can buy in a box today? Do you really believe any real guitarist thinks Hendrix had little boxes that made his guitar sound like it did? To a guitarist, the emphasis will always be on the guitar, amps and practice. Some use effects. Some don't. But all real musicians respect other musicians, even if they don't really like the kind of music they play. Likewise, they all know who turned Rock & Roll music onto the path that lead to the Hard Rock genre that evolved into Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal and more. The only part you got right was the first sentence and the "blah blah blah" which is a good substitute for all you think you know.

Hendrix was a young man when he hit the world stage. His ideas evolved quickly and toward 1970 he became anti-war and apparently pro Black Panther. He mentions them positively on some BOG recordings.
He characterized his music as a "little baby that can not yet walk for itself" If only he had the chance to give us more. But what he left us will never be forgotten...

I was born in 87' so sadly I wasn't even a thought when jimi was alive but if I could go back into to see him and the Beatles it would be amazing. Also he was only on the scene as Jimi Hendrix for 3-4 years and is without a doubt the greatest guitarist to ever play and people to this day can't match his greatness.

What are you talking about? It's an interview, she's not supposed to respond but is simply supposed to fish information out of the person she's interviewing. She's clearly a very intelligent woman and definitely knows how write in complete sentences and spell "genius" correctly unlike some people... Her questions are deep and philosophical.
He was a truly special guy...he was also human, and did give a few nasty interviews, particularly during the last year of his life, when he was often depressed, and increasingly strung out on heavy drugs.
At school I had great friend called Kenny Enahoro, who a beautiful tall handsome Nigerian. We both went around with black armbands when Jimi died as he meant so much to both of us. A guy came up to us and said "Why are you not moving on, Hendrix is dead, move on" Kenny just said "Jesus Christ is dead too man" and walked on.
My jaw almost hit the floor when he commented on Andy Williams! But then again, we are talking about a music lover and a musician. I love how he refers to "so called rock". Music first, genre ....well, ok, we'll call it rock, fine... For all you young folks out there, pop music top ten radio played the hits back in the day. Top ten hits were The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, The Supremes, Sinatra, Johnny Cash, Andy Williams, Glen Campbell, Elvis, Bobby Gentry, Dean Martin, The Dave Clark 5, Temptations, Mary Wells, 4 Seasons...........music before genre. He really was an outside performer. Even in open air, his sound was seemingly so big. But I have to say, sonically and acoustics wise, I loved his sound and tone as captured on "Band of Gypsies" and (cuts from Berkeley) "Hendrix in the West". That his sound was played live but contained in aTheatre sounded so good, so special. But I do love the outdoor stuff so much. I would have loved to have been at Monterey in 1967. Wow!

There weren't any standard answers or canned responses like there are now. It was common back then for artists to speak their minds and interviewers who also did their thing with minimal boundaries.
She's obviously reading prepared questions which makes it a bit stiff, but I read on another site that the interview was for her master's thesis so that's understandable. What's good is she gives Jimi time to riff and ramble, and she is better when she goes off script. The end product is great. Also very cool that Jimi would give an interview to someone for a project that was no benefit to him.
Oh how times have changed, but so much is still the same.
We need more people, musicians, thinkers and freedom seekers sharing thoughts nowadays. I want to be one of them, and you can be too, you very well may be one of us that are trying to break through to make the whole airwaves vibrate with peace and love for all sentient beings. The only answer i've come up with is that you have to believe in yourself even when no one else around you does, and that through guidance and dedication you'll find the people with whom you can jam and vis versa. Remember, the quest that you're on is shared. There are others out there like you, and you're on a collision course. If you stick to yourself, and let your heart roam free, then I promise you you can not fail. June 2014, 45 years later, I sit and listen to this interview of a talented , beautiful, genius. Jimi still is 'our future'. (I love his voice. The Interviewer was annoying!!!) Great interview though. Jimi was down to earth. He was not in love with money. He was in love with music and connecting with the people. Love that man.

August 2021, 52 years later, I lay down and listen to this interview and appreciate everything about Hendrix: from his voice, singing, the way he plays, the way he practice, how he could play all day, his influence, standing up for black folks, setting and example for future artist to be inspired, and changing the world during a time of need.

I love seeing young teens listening to hendrix, it reminds me of when I first heard him when I was 14 and the feelings that his music gave me, some of the most powerful feelings I've ever felt

maybe thats why he liked the hipnotic sound that takes you to another world... maybe he saw things in human nature that makes it fundamentally impossible to make the real the good world that he felt, so he found in his music a way of momentarily giving his audicence a trip in their minds to a different and idealized reality

I love how he was perceived by the interviewer. She treated him as a star, a counter culture figure, a musician, a performer, and recording artist, which is what he was. What a change. These days he is regarded as a guitarist and only a guitarist. The emphasis is on the guitar, amps, effects, practice time, blah blah blah. The guitar nerds have taken over and have rewritten history.
You've got it backward. When he was alive, other musicians respected him even if they didn't understand him. Those who did, loved him. To the older generations, he was just another long-haired hippie who played his guitar so loud and distorted it wasn't music, but an abomination of what music was supposed to be. Back then, so many bands wrote "message songs" with lyrics in plain English that anyone could understand. If you didn't really pay attention to Jimi, you would not get his message. Today, the older generations are his generation. We understand who he really was. Even younger generations understand his effort to spread love and peace. I don't know what your idea of a guitar nerd is. I do know that guitarists will always appreciate his music. Some mimic him while others rearrange his music. Some do alright. Some have mastered the Hendrix style. Other musicians will never consider him as just a guitarist because he was never just another guitarist. If he was, you would hear the heavy influence from other guitarists in all his music. Musicians who master their instrument to the level of creating a whole new style of playing it are relatively few. They don't come along every day. Who do you think inspired the effects you can buy in a box today? Do you really believe any real guitarist thinks Hendrix had little boxes that made his guitar sound like it did? To a guitarist, the emphasis will always be on the guitar, amps and practice. Some use effects. Some don't. But all real musicians respect other musicians, even if they don't really like the kind of music they play. Likewise, they all know who turned Rock & Roll music onto the path that lead to the Hard Rock genre that evolved into Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal and more. The only part you got right was the first sentence and the "blah blah blah" which is a good substitute for all you think you know.

I love hearing Jimi Hendrix's voice and just the wisdom that flows from him and the vibe he gave off.
I feel like most people couldn't even understand what he was saying cause of the way he thinks and how different his opinion on things were to most peoples opinion but hey, everyone has their own opinion and thoughts on things

Hendrix was a young man when he hit the world stage. His ideas evolved quickly and toward 1970 he became anti-war and apparently pro Black Panther. He mentions them positively on some BOG recordings.
He characterized his music as a "little baby that can not yet walk for itself" If only he had the chance to give us more. But what he left us will never be forgotten...

I was born in 87' so sadly I wasn't even a thought when jimi was alive but if I could go back into to see him and the Beatles it would be amazing. Also he was only on the scene as Jimi Hendrix for 3-4 years and is without a doubt the greatest guitarist to ever play and people to this day can't match his greatness.

He was just so full of wisdom, all about peace ,love and harmony, and communication....his answers were over the ladies head...she couldnt really respond ,just say ok ,and move on to the next question......and every one he answered was about being positive or having a positive outcome in whatever it is that happens,,,,my favorite since the first LP.,,Hearing Jimi back then was like he just filled the air with magic man, it turned me the fuck on...Nobody could touch him...the most humble genous you'll ever find..
What are you talking about? It's an interview, she's not supposed to respond but is simply supposed to fish information out of the person she's interviewing. She's clearly a very intelligent woman and definitely knows how write in complete sentences and spell "genius" correctly unlike some people... Her questions are deep and philosophical.
You can tell he was genuinely nice. Most stars had to fake it, he was true.
He was a truly special guy...he was also human, and did give a few nasty interviews, particularly during the last year of his life, when he was often depressed, and increasingly strung out on heavy drugs.
It’s amazing how Jimi was so intelligent at such a young age.
He went through an awful lot, during his young life.
He was an angel sent from the skies to gather people trough music.
But was stopped by those who don't want us gathering around peace love & music.
At school I had great friend called Kenny Enahoro, who a beautiful tall handsome Nigerian. We both went around with black armbands when Jimi died as he meant so much to both of us. A guy came up to us and said "Why are you not moving on, Hendrix is dead, move on" Kenny just said "Jesus Christ is dead too man" and walked on.

Jimi would definitely be able to play at outdoor venues. The man just oozed good will and good vibes toward all. I've never felt like raising hell of any sort while listening to his music.
He really was an outside performer.
Even in open air, his sound was seemingly so big. But I have to say, sonically and acoustics wise, I loved his sound and tone as captured on "Band of Gypsies" and (cuts from Berkeley) "Hendrix in the West". That his sound was played live but contained in aTheatre sounded so good, so special. But I do love the outdoor stuff so much. I would have loved to have been at Monterey in 1967. Wow!

People from the ge erations of the 90s and new millenium. You have no clue what this music is about. Im a well known musician from the Punk Rock era. I seen it all and did it all. People dont have a clue about truly heavy aggressive rock. All they know is dj hogwash, record player musicians. scratching records and making millions. Nothing is real anymore. We will never see this kimd of culture of music ever again. The youth of today is past the point of no return. Its sad. And they missed out on so much. Jimi Hendrix was decades ahead of his time. Even today. No guitarist can emulate his style or imitate his dynamics. The feedback he controlled, it was all donrpe with no effects or any kind of pre programmed sound. He did it all with colume and dexterity and something that nobody knkws that was his own.
