I found you twice today, first seen on reddit the Korg Minilogue "still relevant" video... and then now just searching for a review for this interface, it's a sign gotta subscribe!!
Tack så mycket Bo
Oh ! Nice. Thanks for the review Bo.
this really helped a lot thanks for taking the time
Great review my guy, cute little gadget! ♥
Fantastic jumper choice
Great review! Love to see new stuff come out with USBC! I just want a good Keyboard controller to move over too 😭
Personally I think the MOTU m2 looks pretty solid in comparison with the metal chassis, USB-C and individual 48V controls. 30% more expensive though so I get that.
Great review bro! Thanks!
I did see one taken apart and even though they are plastic, they are well shielded on the inside so RF shouldn’t be a problem.
Very nice review! I appreciate your honest opinion and it definitely helped me to make my decision. Thank you
Very helpful review! Thank you!
thanks for the details ^^
Great review. I only wish it had a couple of mini jacks for 5-pin midi. Still thinking of getting this for travel.
One thing people forget: The XLR cable it on the back. FINALLY.
And another thing, if main outputs are used, the headphone output is disabled, meh.
Second to audio quality (good pre-amps - A to D - D to A - Resolution)....quality metering is the most important feature for me. For home recording the high visibility of metering on the device is number 2. I would sure like to see both VU meters with peak LED and at least 15 segment LED meters for both input and output. Finding the perfect level for each mic/instrument can be a major influence on the sound quality or sound shape you are personally looking for. Maybe a synth sounds better at a level deep into peaking +4db, maybe your vocals sound better to you with levels below zero db. Testing for sound quality at different levels can make dramatic changes in the recorded track. I want the AI device capable of displaying accurate hardware levels and the computer level meters for software.
Certainly is aimed at specific target audience and comes in a very thoughtful & intuitive form factor. I am guessing the plastic body (which lets it down) is due to price competitiveness, would be much better if it was made from a metal casing.
Why? Who cares? It’s a budget interface.
Sound test is what i wanted and you gave it (Since everyone says the same thing about this product fairly high reviews, gearslutz seems to love it)
Glad to hear I provided something of value. Havnt been keeping up with what people are saying about it. I don’t love it but its definitely a good contender for peoples money in this category.
If the output gets muted when the headphones are plugged in, does that effect my audio recording if these outputs are connected to a mobile phone when I record a video?
This is an excellent interface. I use it for both podcasting and music. Easy to use, excellent preamps.
A few months later, how has it been holding up? My son wants to get into streaming and his birthday is coming up
@@ryanwilson5936 It works beautifully. I'm really enjoying it. I'd buy one again in a heartbeat, to be honest.
@@theway-backmusicmachinepod9953
Thanks for the reply my friend!
@@ryanwilson5936 Happy to offer my two cents :)
Hey I'm confused about buying this or focusrite. Iam just a newbie trying to do music. Which one would you prefer
Could anyone tell me if the interface could drive 250Ohm dt990 pro or audient id4 would be a better option?
that is a NICE jumper
Can I control the monitor output from the headphone output separately?
Man you missed that we always search in reviews: the Windows/Mac driver that comes with the unit. How does it look? Can u control the buttons and dial of the unit from the driver or is there any software control? Can you enable/disable 48v and other functions from the sw. driver? are those ASIO drivers? We are interested in seeing the actual drivers of the units and how they look. Thanks.
The preamps on the evo sounds better than the focusrite
Do I need to use an audio interface to sample from my computer? Would I use the head phone output with a product like this? Thanks, Dan
How does it compare to the iRig Pro Duo I/O? Mostly I'm interested in latency and noise level (because I'm looking at it for a live looping setup, so latency is super important). If I'm not mistaken the iRig is 24 bit/48 kHz. Does that mean the Evo 4 will have noticeably less latency?
Are they similar products or is there something big I'm missing? Thanks!
The Pro Duo if I dont confuse it with another interface has a smiliar build quality (i have it) but worse i/o (only mini jack for headphones I think) and midi on breakout cables. All from memory. But I am pretty certain that the mic preamps are not as good and I didnt get as good latency. But if you need midi i/o it definitely has one up
Fresh haircut. Nice!
I want to record electric guitar and bass guitar simultaneously the evo 4 audio interface but there is only one instrument input. Can I plug either my bass guitar or guitar into the mic inputs on the back. I am using a line 6 helix multi-effects processor which has amp simulators built into it. The processor also amplifies my signal. The processor has outputs that I can make either line or instrument out puts. If i set either my guitar or bass guitar to come out as a line output could I then plug the signal into the back mic inputs without any problems, loss of tone, unwanted clipping or distortion,.... ect...???? If I do should I use balanced XLR cables or would regular Balanced cables work fine?
thank you
Hi, Is there a smart gain or can you use the smart gain with the instrument input ? If not can it be controlled with the wheel ?
Hey BoBeats, if you had to choose evo4 or komplete audio 2, which one would you choose?
For iOS: which interface would have the least latency? This or the iRig or something else?
I'm not seeing this available anywhere in stock. I'm not prepaying for an unknown ship date. Anyone know if anyone has this available?
Hey, Is there a way I can switch between the headphone output and monitor speakers without detaching the headphone from the interface?
I think for the IOS crowd (I keep one docked in the studio) - it would be important to note the lack of midi connections either via USB or through 5 Pin Midi cables). That could be a deal breaker for some. Thanks Bo. Nice work as usual.
i was iOS only for a couple years using an Audient interface and never needed midi. i had a usb hub which i connected the interface and midi keyboard to without a problem.
Epithet Music how did you do that and have enough power? One of my midi devices has iPad Pro compatibility but I know it is lower power and functionality not sure about keyboard.
I thought the plastic on my evo is fine
Nice review of an interesting product. My 2 year old Focusrite 2i4 is muted somehow in my daw's. It registers visual feedback when phantom power comes on and I tap my AT 2035. Audacity picks up audio wave form when doing voice recording. Playback/recording "check boxes" are fine. PC sound (Realtek) works ok, without the 2i4. Settings in Voicemeter seem to work ok in Realtek. I'm sure I'm missing something somewhere. Anyone else in the comments having similar issues with their Focusrite 2i4 or other Focusrite audio Interfaces? Might need to get iRig midi. At (on sale) cad $130 local retail, I might pick this up instead.
You'd probably have better luck commenting in a scarlet 2i4 video. I don't know of many people having that model.
Will this Evo 4 provide me with a mono output. I ask that because I currently had a Focusrite Solo 3rd Gen and when I go live on FB or just record in Quicktime the sound only comes out the left side. I understand that this happens due to the Focusrite Solo considers input 1 (XLR) to be the left channel and the other input (1/4 inch) to be the right channel. Now this would be an easy fix in post with any DAW because I can process the final output in Mono however because I go live and I dont have the option to fix in post. Therefor every time I go live I get stuck with the audio only coming out of the left side as I only have the mic in input 1 (XLR). So my question is would the Evo 4 input 1 (XLR) only record to the left side/channel during recoding or going live or will it record to both the left and right sides?
How ya, how high up does the buffer size go on this? Was eyeing the scarlett solo but the max is 1024. Does this go higher? Cheers
Great review ! The only issue I have ran into is recording left and right audio tracks . Unless I manually change my input settings, it only records one side at a time . Does any one have a quick fix or solution to this issue ?
has anyone tried this with IOS Camera App either on iphone or Ipad. Does the resulting video pick up the input signal
My concern is AUDIO FROM CELLPHONES OR TABLETS! For accompanying music like for cover/karaokes, you can't beat that! So I took my cellphone signal into a Split 1/4" TS cable, and plugged those into the Line Level inputs of a MOTU M4. No good; could barely hear the signal! Maybe, the splitting dropped the signal, I don't know. I'll be getting an EVO 8 today, and someone from Audient messaged me that I have to use Combo inputs 1 and 2 for the split cell phone signal, and either or both of 3 and 4 for microphones.
what about the plugins and the loopback?
7:00 "I probably wouldn't put a Focusrite interface in my bag." I've used the first generation 2i4 and a 2nd generation Solo as part of my portable set up for the last 8 and 4 years respectively. Their sturdy build make them ideal. Just saying and giving my opinion
I think you are right. I just don’t feel good about that size and the knobs. Its more a preference than a technical thing. Same with NI interfaces and bags for me. But I brought the NI one to SB19 and it held up superb.
I have an original 2i4 also and it has been used for a long time now. Part of the USB connector has fallen apart so I have to keep one special usb cable with the loose part attached. also the monitor mix pot is getting noisy and I have to stay away from the very ends of its travel...….I probably could justify a new interface at this point haha, but seriously, the old hoss does still work within its limitations (it has survived the drop test too).
@@BoBeats It's the back pack if you really know what's going on. My missus teases me that I'm like a woman when choosing bags, lol. I'm always checking them out and imagine what I would put in them.
The Scarlett Solo is really small and square as opposed to the 2i4 being rectangular but I still prefer the 2i4 for connections choices and MIDI. It slides into the front compartment of my backpack along with the wires, plugs and external hard drives. I leave the main compartment at the back for the laptop and a groove box. It's worked for me as I always choose backpacks that have separate front and back compartments with enough space for my gear.
@@jjrusy7438 if it lasts longer than 5 years then you're having an exceptional run. If it's wonky and battered and still going then it's build is very strong. A good alternative to the 2i4 that is surprisingly strong and has all the functions of the 2i4 is the Behringer UMC204HD. The casing is almost as strong as the Focusrite, same functions but half the price. I might not be Behringers biggest fan but I can't be biased. Their interface is surprisingly good quality build wise and sonically.
Like the new moth 2 and 4 you tried them?
Is it good for long term use?
Have you had any problems installing the drivers?
hey Bo! What’s the dock you have attached to your MacBook?
HyperDrive+ I think is the name. Works OK but sometimes I miss having a dongle with a cable instead of this stiff thing on the side
Great vídeo, thanks for sharing, I'm still towards the Focusrite 2i2 as the USB-C seems to be a plus to me.
does the headphone have a separate volume control?
Hey man which USB did you use?
👍
evo 8 or scalet 2i2 or motu m2 which is better ?
I've decided to buy this as my first interface ever. Wonder when it starts shipping? Everywhere I go online it's pre-order with no estimated shipping date.
Same boat here, it went into stock today at sweetwater
Mine shipped today. 😁🙌
Just got mine today! Now downloading all the freeware and whatnot. It’s a nice unit
Im thinking about buying it. Do yall suggest it ? How is it after months ? Thanks, Have a nice day.
@@egegulkaya2525 I recommend it. Works perfectly and I am yet to have any issues with it. If for some reason I needed to buy a new interface, I would buy it again.
It looks great. By the way, have you measured the equivalent input noise?
unfortunately I am not good with doing measurements of this kind.
BoBeats Moment of silence might be good.
englinesian vodcast appreciate the idea!
Hey Bo, as a long-time fellow of your channel I know that you are a hardware guy mostly. What about using hardware instruments with this? As I noticed there is no midi in and out. So how you would you solve that problem?
Yepp, thats a downside and you’d have to get an usb midi interface or just go usb midi all together. But for hw setups this is not an ideal audio interface at all.
@@BoBeats Thanks foe your reply Bo, you are the best! Stay safe:)
PSA: never tap microphones like that, you can damage the capsule. Better is to scratch a nail across the grill to test for signal.
thx i didnt know that
That's a bit exaggerated. Microphones handle much more than that just by being transported.
But sure, don't do it too hard.
I usually tap with fingernails, reversed hand
@@morten1 How are you transporting your mics that they are getting banged directly on the capsule?!
No, it's not the same - when you transport your mics they are presumably in some kind of padded case, so any shock is already being absorbed. When you tap on the grill, the pressure goes directly onto the capsule membrane, which can cause damage. It's just bad practice to ever tap the grill of a microphone, and it's unnecessary.
@@andrewfinden2642 you're 100% correct! Good advice for novice users.
This is very good advice. Don’t blow on the mic, either.
i cant get the Audio driver
i Go to the website and it does not work
It's portable for a 2 input interface but compared to some 1 input options it's still a bit chunky. I'd much rather have a good 4 input or more interface in my desk and whenever I need to go portable I'd take a smaller one. I quite like the apogee one because of the mic and the preamps but since with my portable rig I'm using an iPad pro I can't use it. I might buy a zoom u22 for portability and keep my audient id 44 in the studio.
Another alternative I think is the iRig midi. It has a external power jack as well but only 1 xlr input but the iRig midi is designed to take a non usb mic into Audacity/daw
No headphone gain ?
Looks like a camera 📷
i thought it looked like a bluetooth speaker
HOLY SHIT THIS SOUNDS GOOD
Hi, lovely channel, great job! : ) I was wondering that this could work with a Rode videomic pro? I already have that one as I do video work but I guess with an adapter it could also be connected? If you or anyone knows the answer, please reply : ) Thank you
i dont know for sure but my gut instinct: not a good combo since the mic is designed for dslr... but if you have another audio interface you can try... all you need is to convert/use adapter for that mini plug
BoBeats update! It does work with dslr video mic such as rode video mic pro and I tried a cheaper one as well and both were just fine :) I hope this comment helps others too.
2:42 that's what she said
sntg I don’t know why I found that so funny
Doesn’t look bulky to me, looks small. sadly no separate volume for the headphones.
Hello. Can Evo 4 or 8 be used for "Dawless", not connected to a computer / phone / tablet and only powered by a USB battery and sent sound from its inputs to its outputs ? Thank you.
I dont know if this works but i wouldnt get the evo for this use case anyway, better to get a bluebox 1010music mixer or other mixer
@@BoBeats Hello Bo. Thank you for your reply. Actually I am looking for an audio interface (4 instruments input minimum that can do both "DAWless" and "DAW" (with Ableton Live). I have red that 1010music Blubox cannot be connected to a DAW via USB. I have also tried Arturia Audiofuse (which fully match my requirements), but I had a lot of issues with it (audio glitches, pops, driver failures...). Thank you again. Regards
Check Soundcraft Signature MTK, Presonus STUDIOlive, mackies new onyx mixers as well as Tascam. Tascam has some really affordable stuff both mixers and audio interfaces
It's a shame it doesn't have an aluminium case otherwise I would buy one. Don't like plastic and trying to reduce the use of this material in my house! Nice review btw as always ;-)
lol
Check new SLL 2 soundcard then
@@mikelo303 Thanks... Will do...
This would look nice on my desk but the workflow requires too much fiddling, clicking this while holding that... Great interface for those who don't need to touch up parameters too much, which isn't my case. Thank for the review !
Ay that microlab tho
Why are you using phantom power with a dynamic mic?
i don’t
Oh, turned it on when using the Rodecaster Pro, so I was confused.
Question: Can you record two channels at the same time on this interface?
Yes its a 2 input interface
That noise from the rotary dial is not at all reassuring
interesting product, no midi din ports though.
no audient products have midi 🤷🏿♂️
i have the id22 and id4 both great interfaces. might trade in my id4 for the evo4 for my portable setup
@@EpithetMusicTV what's "audient"....? do you mean audio?
cresshead Audient is the company that makes the EVO. They started life as a console manufacturer before moving into interfaces. their id range of interfaces (id4, id14, id22, id44) are highly reputable and have often been touted for their incredible bang for buck. Going back to my previous point, none of the aforementioned interfaces have midi so it’s little wonder this newer EVO line doesn’t either.
So it does not work on Android?
From what I know: No. I don’t own any Andriod to test tho.
Woks great with my Samsung note 8.
Seriously dude are u Vilhelm Blomgren or not?
'it makes sure you don't clip'.... So it's making it easy therefore people won't ever learn about how to set gain.... Hmmm personally not sure if I like it.
i am not sure either. But i did have a guy tell me how it was great for his musician friends who are super not technical... I guess for them it can be great 🤷🏻♂️
I can’t wait for companies to send me stuff to review
Hi bro plz send this soft in indiya . Plz can you talk to hindi
Don’t like the plastic..full stop...I notice you hold the unit, I can imagine when it has cables plugged in it could be easily dragged off the desk due to its lightweight / plasic design. Scarlett for me
Got one, returned it. Wifi ticking and hissing interference through the headphones rendered monitoring impossible. Ok so you turn the wifi off on your computer, but then someone's phone starts to interfere, is it your gear that's got a problem? how would you know? They say a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, it has some strong links - the ADCs are good but the weak link is very weak indeed, troublesome headphone monitoring renders this to be a terrible product, what could have been ok is a toy, shame on Audient for this blunder.
....no
Next.
Very disappointing of performance of sound Quality... First problem: Any Streaming NO SOUND (UA-cam, WinTV, JRiver Streaming Music on Radio......No Sound) all mi song are in Flac format and sound Vary from on song to another, presence is not there sound like a Brand New Headphone not roded. I have read The same Comment from Review...and tell myself they don't know of to configure the Interface...But NO they have entirely reason....after try it Very disappointed...really
This EVO 4 does NOT support loopback for iOS. It shouldn't indicate this device compatible with iOS devices. It doesn't support loopback and voice recording is too soft.
i cant say how much i hate touch buttons and "multi-functions" ****. If you use this card only and dailly it might work for you. But i dont use it daily, and never remember where the monitor function is, and it drives me crazy. May the evil eye stare in eternity at the innovators putting it on music gear. My recommendation is don´t buy this card if you plan on actually work, because you might end up needing to use UA-cam to find the easist bloody things, that is just nobrain stuff. Touch might look cool, dont buy in to it..
no midi? no thanks!!
It's a piece of shite that is MAC friendly...you need to load drivers for Windows, but they don't tell you in ads.
User error. Should have kept that to yourself.
Wow I cam here for a review on an audio interface, and the reviewer's audio is garbage. Seriously man.
I don't see the point of this product. I feel like there is an abundance of interfaces in this range and this one brings nothing of value to the table. Plastic, mediocre latency, mediocre sound quality, no midi, not particularly small. The world didn't need this.
Heard sound comparisons tho and this sounds better than other interfaces like focusrite and presonus in the same price range
It does have loopback as well which is missing in the test - might be a feature for e. g. Podcasters.
Priced same as Scarlett Solo, it's an entry level home desk interface, except it has more; additional combo input, better preamps, support of >200 ohm headphones and loopback. In fact it could go head to head with the 2i2, beating it on tech and price. Oh and it's British designed & engineered.
