Love how you never talk over everyone's head and take the time to explain the 'simple' stuff like what phantom power is! 🙌 Ordered this unit last week and can't wait to test it out for my podcast. Will be coupled with an EV-RE320, my first 'serious' mic after starting off with a Blue Yeti (oops, wrong mic for an untreated room!).
Long time.....glad you’re back!
I just got mine delivered about an hour ago. I have a EV RE320 with a Fethead on it and it sounds pretty awesome with no noise that my ears can detect.
So cool to see you're back! Already been missing you! Best regards from Germany!
Your review was what I needed regarding this interface. Will be buying in the next few weeks, appreciate this as always
I saw your earlier video and was impressed about the first "closet" setup. Thank you. I will be watching all your video's in the near future.
Always a pleasure to hear the smooth buttery pipes of Mike on his mic.
Hi Mike. I ISE this and a Synco D2. It immediately made won me several jobs. Previous customers were impressed. So easy to use. Thanks!
Great to have you back. I look forward to June 11th
Finally, a overview that takes the time to explain and show with clarity how to use the Evo 4 features in real time, something you’d think Evo would have done. Others I’ve watched to date assume viewers have used an interface before and/or gloss over how to sequence through the buttons. Thx much
He's ALIIIIIVE!!! 🎙😀👍 Great review. Welcome back sir!
Glad to see you back. Great review man.
Excellent you are back. Love to hear more from you. Your voice and style are just great. Might be also great you would share some experience and insights with Reaper 6.
Great information and instructional video on the EVO4, thank you Booth Junkie. Keep safe and stay well...
Thanks for the shoutout, Mike! Looking forward to working with you on the 11th!
Awesome! I’m in for the Reaper webinar.
Just got the Evo4. Works great and as needed so far. It's super simple!
how is this card now?
Just an added point about the ability to turn phantom power on/off per channel: Unlike dynamic mics, many ribbon mics can be damaged by phantom power, which would allow, for example, someone to record an acoustic guitar with a ribbon mic and voice with a condenser mic. Many larger (eg 8 channel interfaces) allow you to turn phantom power on/off for half of the channels at a time. So this is a really great, well-thought-out feature for a small, two-channel audio interface like this!
Thanks for your great work on this channel! Lots of super helpful info, and I have sent a number of other people here who are looking for help with VO, and specifically for VO with REAPER (which has been my DAW of choice for many years -- have been using it since the days when it was in Beta development, and it truly is one of the best coded, most stable programs out there, as well as being a fantastic, super customizable DAW). Cheers!
thanks for a great intro & comprehensive usage & feature walkthrough, explained clearly & patiently !
This video was exactly what I need thank you so much 😁
First time commenter, long time viewer! Love your videos, keep up the good work! I love the fact that you give your opinion and don't just tell us everything. I value your input as you know this stuff so much more than I (we) do.
I have a question as I'm new to all of this... how does this (evo 4) compare to the dbx 286s that you're always recommending. Can you do up a video to show the differences and let us know the best path for someone whos new but it's willing to learn more please? Thanks, Jay
I JUST got the Evo 4. What good timing! :)
Whoa! Sold. The loop back feature cinched it for me. Preamps are a bonus.
So good to see you again! And great overview. I’m assuming a Fethead will address the dynamic gain issue. Thx. Don’t be a stranger!
Man this review made me put the Evo4 in my cart. I'm old school, so of course I am more of a "dedicated knob" for everything guy..lol..clutter and all....but, I am also a very "conserve space and go guy". This seems to offer that, without taking away from the quality. Just getting back into it after a 23 year hiatus, and so much has changed. The first thing I've had to learn, is to control my budget, and not buy everything because it is shiny and new. Lol. Thanks for a great review.
Finally, Booth Junkie: Corona Edition.
Keep the vids coming man! 🙏🔥
I use mine everywhere I get the chance to go...these days. It works really well. So clean.
Just rediscovered your awesome channel :) I am eager to get back into voice acting! Currently working on my review of the EVO 4
You can also wire two USB audio interfaces (one cheap one hire quality) together in reverse to create a sudo-mix-minus. In the early days of podcasting, we had to do this so Skype interviews could hear multi-host scenarios and still get everyone into separate tracks for the recording. You set one audio interface to handle the outbound, and to fool the primary USB audio interface into thinking Skype (or whatever you're using) was just another microphone.
Excellent, thank you!
Oooh it sounds great and thank you I am thinking of getting one for a friend who been doing voice acting for some time, so heard she be getting a new mic so maybe I could get this puppy to suprised her now she'll be doubled upgrade, not to mention ever sense I got the id4 for myself have full confidence on this product and your review really helped I think shell love it 😀
Mike! Happy to see you here. Hope all is well. Thanks for posting a new video. Where does this stand compared to the Scarlett 2i2? I'm using a CAD E100S. Better preamps?
Thank you
Hi! Thank you for the information and your inspiration. I got the Rode NT1 with Ai1. Now I have to do some isolation of the place I record. I have to much echo atm. I have recorded using a thick blanket over me and the mic but it’s very restrictive and warm.
Super helpful! Thank you :)
For the record it's 2in 2out because it has, of course, two input channels and two output channels. I know many see the output as one stereo channel but they are in fact two independent mono outputs.
Great review of the EVO!
For the Reaper webinar, anything newer than your UA-cam limited series on Reaper you put out some years ago? Are you going over some of the newer features and how to best use them for VO?
Yay booth junkies back :D
I also forgot I have a question should I get a dedicated preamp and not upgrade my interface or buy a new interface right now im using the scarlett solo
Instant thumbs-up
thank you so much I had also like to add if you have an Apple phone and want to do live streaming on social media you'll need a powered USB hub that plugs into your iPhone camera adapter that's a USB and one in and on the other and lightning it took me forever to find that Apple does not know
The auto gain set looks very handy. I wonder how this compare to the Scarlett Solo, looks like it has more features. Not sure how pre amp quality compares
HE IS ALIVE!!!!!
You were a little low today, compared to many other UA-cam Channels. Had to crank up speakers. Then got blasted on next video. Love the video, great review.
I had this little guy and really loved it until it started acting flaky after only about 3 weeks. Phantom power light failed to engage but seemed okay after resetting. Then it did it again and then it seemed confused when a second mic was added. Bottom line it that when it worked it was great but I couldn't rely on it so had to send it back. Waiting for replacement now.
Mike, Your webinar was great. I would like to see more of your Reaper use. You don't sell... Just tell it as you see it.
Just bought the Evo 4 - stunned at how clean and smooth the sound is. Wish for manual controls and obviously this isn't good for "run and gun" work.
how is this card now?
Hey amazing man...I’m wanting to learn Reaper...I missed your webinar. Was it recorded? Is that going to be made public?
Hey Mike and any other voice over actors here. Great work as usual. Quick question, have you ever had a client ask you to do a serious VO recording but do a part with a different voice?? Even though the tone is asked to be serious? This baffled me and I really struggled with it. Should I improve my acting skills or set client expectations a bit better?
Thanks for this! One question. Can I still set up my Channel Strip with the Evo?
PLEASE MAKE A REVIEW OF THE STUDIO MONITOR
HYBRID HF6
You should do a review for the Steelseries Artis 5 Cans.
Cool. 👍
thanks Booth,.. what about the loopback feature? for instance DAW audio to OBS to make tutorial
thanks man... :D
Great video like allways! Question: Do you, Mike, or anybody else in the comments with enough experience in audio gear think that the Evo4 has enough gain for a low sensitivity dynamic microphone? I myself are thinking about buying the Evo 4 and a sE V7x to my poorly treated apartment. Thanks!
Edit: A UA-camr named Julian Krause messured the Max Gain on the Evo4 and if I dod not understand wrong, the Evo4 had lower Gain (41,4dB) instead of the, I think ~ 50dB that the manufacturer has informed.
I'm just gonna call you Velvet DelGaudio. Great demo of the EVO4, dude.... I mean.... Velvet.
Hey Mike, I'm curious regarding the smart gain, was your recording level in terms of dB the same, or in the same range, as what you would be setting it to with your other interface?
" You Did a Good Job ; Well Done ! "
Dude! Don't stay gone for so long. I need my fix!
its a really cool interface but it would have been nice to know at what stage of the interface setting you are at...at any giiven time...i.e if i press the 1 button for my channel 1 could the button at least have some different color illumination to indicate that its that line/feature im using...so that we i press the pan button i have an indication that i have now moved to that and that function is engaged....as it is its like blind shooting across the functions whenever you wan use them...hope it makes sense....lol...a car shows you what gear you are in...id like to know on my interface what button is engaged
Mike - did you find the headphone output power lacking? I can't get enough headroom for either my 54 ohm Senn HD380s or my Beyer DT 770 pro 80 ohms? ALSO, thinking about getting an ID22 and wondering if I might have the same problem? THANKS for all you do for the community.
Mike - sorry I missed your webinar, but I have a related question - could you do a video on using Reaper for editing files saved to an SD card on a Zoom H5? I'm just starting out and have followed your advice and am using a mic (got an AKG C214 as I couldn't afford the CAD E100S) with a Zoom H5 and am going to use Reaper. I've watched your Reaper tutorial series but would welcome some advice on setting up presets and just general usage when using an SD file rather than recording directly via a mic plugged into a Mac via an interface.
Hey Mike! Super excited for the webinar but wanted to ask: will the webinar be available after the date? I’d love to be able to have a record of it for reference!
Please let us know if you end up doing this webinar again! The tix are sold out, but I’d love to be able to learn from you soon!
Hey BJ...in your opinion, is this a better interface for the Rode NT1 than the Focusrite Scarlett for just voice over work?
what do youthink about using the dbx or whateer its called with the audio interface you listed in the video will that provide enough gain for the sm7b it says it needs about 60db of gain as you know since you own an sm7b
Thanks. What do you think about the bêta 87 shure. I have already one and I thought buy a large membrane Microphone condenser. Does it worth ? It is for singing and perhaps podcasting. Thanks to you.
Please demo the Samson Q9U (SM7B clone)
Would you say it works better than the presonus 96 interface?
Legend!
Is the webinar only for fresh VO kids, I've been in the industry now for 4yrs & I love Reaper but I don't want to steal a ticket if someone else would take more from it..... I'd feel pretty guilty if I knew what you're gonna run through! haha
Cheers mate
Hey my audiophile friend, what screw and mic arm do u use for the cad e100s? Just bought one and dont know how to set that up. Links / help appreciated. Thanks!!
Can you use the evo as a mic preamp connected to a dslr and power it with a power bank or usb brick?
What headphones are you using?
What headphones do you recommend?
I am using evo 4, idk why at full gains or at 70% gain it starts giving cranky background noise, please help me if something is wrong with this
Is it possible to switch out put from headphone to monitor speakers? Or do i still need to do this through the computer? Sorry i am a little confused about channel 1/2 being both input and output
Will there be enough amplification for Rode Procaster (-56dB)?
Hi, do you believe that this Audient interface is better than the Yamaha AG03? Thanks a lot.
By any chance can you mute the microphone?
@Booth Junkie Motu m2 or audient Evo 4. Kindly suggest
Which set of headphones is Mike wearing in this video?
Anyone having radio or electromagnetic interference with their evo4? I’m trying to figure out how to get rid of this high pitch hum/buzz. It comes in an out intermittently.
Hi ,, thanks for all video you do... its really useful . wanna to ask you about Mic Boya PM700 whic one you prefer (USB Boya PM 700 or Rode NT1) please answer me its important to me to know . Thanks very much and to know i want to use it for just vocal .
Rode NT1 is far superior if u have the budget
Is there a microphone/audiophile community I could post a voice recording of my (I think distinctive/nasal/bright) voice where people could recommend a microphone that might present it best? Thinking about investing in a high-quality mic for my own AV production.
I doubt people would find it if I just posted it on my YT page :/
Hey, Mike, I'd love to buy products you review and recommend via affiliate links to support you. Would you be willing to add that option?
Will this Evo 4 provide me with a mono output. I ask that because I currently had a Focusrite Solo 3rd Gen and when I go live on FB or just record in Quicktime the sound only comes out the left side. I understand that this happens due to the Focusrite Solo considers input 1 (XLR) to be the left channel and the other input (1/4 inch) to be the right channel. Now this would be an easy fix in post with any DAW because I can process the final output in Mono however because I go live and I dont have the option to fix in post. Therefor every time I go live I get stuck with the audio only coming out of the left side as I only have the mic in input 1 (XLR). So my question is would the Evo 4 input 1 (XLR) only record to the left side/channel during recoding or going live or will it record to both the left and right sides?
Will we be able to ask questions during your Reaper webinar? Thanks Mike!
Hi, Ding Dong Ditch! I'm Sean Daeley, from GVAA. Yes, there will be a Q&A at the end of Mike's presentation!
Thank you.
Question:
My company has given me the task of creating high quality training videos with voice over narration, and need to purchase a USB Audio Interface to use with our Rode NT1 mic to support these types of projects. I am leaning toward the Audient ID22, but would love to hear your thoughts if you think this is overkill, or would the ID14 be more suitable?
Love what you do here Mike!
The id4 would even be more than suitable. What did you end up getting?
Loving the interface but they need to add tooltips to the software so you know what the icons do. And they need to disable the feature that disables the speakers depending if headphones are plugged in or not. Really dumb feature that limits the uses.
the pleather padding on my audio technica headphones is cracking horribly and im scared
i am new to the Voiceover industry, and I wanted to know how to measure your voice to get the best mic suitable to your vocals, mine voice is quite bass and hard vocal, btw just buy H6, and if there is possibility to send you my vocal sample?
is the price difference between the Evo4 and ID14 justified by the quality? for 1 Podcast microphone only the difference in quality is heard between the two?
ID4 maybe?
@boothjunkie Motu m2 or audient Evo 4. Kindly suggest
Nothing could beat Motu M2
I wish this thing had a few more nobs. It seems confusing as is.
I have the Audient ID 22, but looking for a more portable solution. Does this work well with Sennheiser MKH 416 P48 mic?
Also, my current Audient requires me to have a Rolls personal monitor amp to power my 80ohms Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro headphones.
How come he seems to sound fantastic on any microphone? lol
I have an AT2020 and I love it but it sounds a bit thin. But I feel like he could buy a 2$ microphone and make it sound like the Shure SM7B.
Need help, just received the evo 4... can only hear Mic or guitar on one side of the headphone (whether I use a daw with recording on mono or without using any daw for that matter ) I do get the sound from the computer (while playing some audio) on the other side of the headphone when I turn the knob to the right with the mix button but the point is that my input Mic or guitar can only be heard on one side of my headphone. Am I missing something here
how is this card now?
@@user-ox8tr3oc8x God knows, sold it to someone early on but it was a handy tool
there are so many questions but there are very little answers.
IMO id4 is better in case you don't need 2 mic inputs
I'd agree with that. I actually bought the EVO 4 to test and compare it with my ID4. I like the preamps of the ID4 better. But I'd rank the EVO 4 over the Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen and Scarlett Solo 3rd gen.
pewdiepie is using that one 😊
Hello Booth Junkie, been following you and the Podcastage guy for the last year, love your videos, but the more I watch the more its confusing, i mean how one Good mic vs another Good mic, which one to buy?
Can you please help me choose a microphone from my list?
Im not from USA so prices are higher here and that includes importing from USA with INT Shipping and Import Taxes, but some mics [Lewitt brand] have almost the same local price as in USA.
For 100% Speech only, Streaming and Videos connected to goXLR:
Rode Procaster for 240$ [Local price]
Golden Age Project D2 for 265$ [US Import]
MXL BCD-1 for 265$ [US Import]
King Bee KIT for 245$ [US Import]
Lewitt LCT 440 Pure KIT for 285$ [Local price]
I mentioned the price, but I more care about the quality I also have speech disorder, stammering/stutter so my guess i need more sensitive to hear me when im stuck on words or maybe not, i dont know.
Best Regards
I will save you 220-240 USD. Get the Behringer XM8500 or XM1800S. They both sound decent and are around 15-20 USD. You don't have to spend over 200 USD to get a good mic.
