Peter Gabriel still sounds the same at 73 just as he did in his younger years. He's an amazing performer. He can keep the audience raving. Liked him in Genesis too. This song is decades old but I still listen to it at 66yrs old in 2024. Peter Gabriel really captures the mood with his incredible talent 👏 😍. Keep on playing Peter Gabriel with your excellent music. 👏
Absolutely brilliant live version. Gabriel's voice is unbelievably good at the age of 73.
Great sound. Better than a lot of stage versions.
Tony Levin, looking EXACTLY like he did in 1985.
It’s a bad thing or good thing? 🤪
I was so prepared to be disappointed at an aging legend but I am blown away. Peter Gabriel sounds phenomenal and he still got it. What a joy to see.
It's called auto tune
@@FUBARandU
Not. You can clearly hear that he's very slightly off-key sometimes... Purely a live performance, no trickery here. An amazing feat for a 73-year-old man. The only thing is that you can see him looking at a monitor for the lyrics at times, probably because his memory isn't what it used to be. But that's understandable.
@@FUBARandU - that would be the worst autotune ever used - he is on key 98%, but that 2% off-keyness would not be present with autotune. He is a real musician, and this gives it a natural feeling - he is the best!
@@AlainHubert Could also be mic/digital stuff, timing etc. PG has an excellent memory from what I gather
@@Saerkal Teleprompters have been pretty common onstage for many years, you'd be surprised. And there's no shame in it, particularly when the artist is drawing from 50 years of songwriting.
Original key, 37 years later. Much respect PG.
@@bourbon77 rubbish.. That was live
Yes! Great observation! That IS impressive! As for the troll comment about pre recorded, dude! Move out of your parent's basement and begin living your life with purpose. The dissemination of negative energy never ends well for the distributor. Best of luck to you on your journey of spiritual awakening my friend. Baby steps. One little adjustment of vibrational amplification each week. Stay focused and let love into your life. You'll be amazed at how much happier you'll feel and how much brighter the world now appears. Source allows for complete freedom of choice, you can opt for darkness and dystopian narratives, or you can go with light, love, and tolerance for all you encounter. I'd recommend the latter path, it has a much higher ceiling. The dark road is a dead end, an environment of suspicion, hate, self interest, and intolerance. Its apathetic, cynical, and has deceived itself in the belief of the supremacy of the egoic construct that sees Ego as separate from the Interconnected Oneness of the Everything. Good luck my brother.
@@donmackie6086 Lol😂 bless the non musician
@bourbon77 lol. Yes indeed. After all, we are all extensions of a single consciousness.
@@donmackie6086 well written...he probably works for the WEF, lol.
His voice is in astoundingly good shape.
It sounds great here. I watched some videos from the first night and was worried but seems like it’s opened up a bit after that show. I’m seeing him in October
His body isn’t so fortunate.
I was thinking the same.. he hasnt lost anything.
@@gallagc1 Time comes for us all.
@@shootermcgavin3077 Tony Levin looks pretty fit. If your only going to tour every 20 years, go on a diet first. Also Morrissey keep your shirt on.
How is it even possible that Peter Gabriel still sounds so good? Amazing.
Adrenochrome
And autotune
@@weallmakechoices7456no
@@weallmakechoices7456 autotune corrects pitch, not breathiness. If he's still able to belt at 73 without running out of breath, he's either got a great singing coach or he's been taking good care of his lungs and throat. Probably a bit of both.
And the moves!
Not many of us can expect to be this cool at 73
Seriously....how is it even remotely possible that Peter Gabriel is 73 and Tony Levin is 76???? These guys possess chops and skills that put players twenty years younger to shame! True inspirations and legends!
I agree. Levin, however in my experience with him in 1987, in music school and later in the late 2000s where he played a few shows in Baltimore in a studio I built he was basically a jerk talking shit about other musicians he was hired to perform with.
20 years younger? And the rest!!!!
@@Doesitmatter113 "He was hired to perform with" ? I don't recall Peter Gabriel ever being hired as a session musician for another group.
@@TheVideoLounge Tony Levin, pay attention. Never mentioned Peter Gabriel.
Genesis Reunion tour anyone?
73 years old and still killing it on stage. What an amazing talent. ❤
And Ringo Starr is still doing it at 82! Paul is also , but his voice is totally gone not like Peter and Ringo.
Age irrelevant 🤷🏻♂️😆🤣😂
I'd say more like 43.
I agree...he sounds great. The only thing I'd change is that outfit.
@@TheOldTapeArchive Yeah, not a fan of that look either.
Probably the best pop record ever recorded. Tony Levin is a beast
It is indeed
Very impressed with this live performance. Boy his voice has aged very well. Nice job Peter.
Two things astound me. 1: the quality of Peter Gabriel’s voice at 73, and 2: Tony Levin looking exactly like he did 35 yrs ago.
Rarely do performers insist on keeping the original key of the song when they perform it 40 years later -- a massive testimonial to his talent and how well he has preserved his voice. He's still the very best.
Jon Anderson of Yes fame is 78 and is doing a better job than Peter. It's time to modulate this song down a full step so he doesn't to gliss into the high notes. Still, not a bad performance though.
@@theatremusician doesn't Jon Anderson have a very different singing style?
@@mipmipmipmipmip yes. Why?
A genius then, a genius now.
The guy from Yes 😂😂😂😂 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 hey buddy, go kick rocks.
Peter Gabriel 73 and still rockin… Legend! 😊❤❤❤
A mere spring chicken compared to Mick Jagger...and nowhere near as fit or in shape. As for the "dancing"....Reminds me of that Steve Martin movie...
Peter Gabriel looks and moves like a older man now, but wow, he sings like he hasn't aged a day since this song was first released! Fantastic! :D
Shout out to Tony Levin, wielding that sledgehammer of a bass! Seen him with Crimson, and definitely will catch this tour, when it comes around.
And he's even a bit older than Peter, at 76! Still got it.
Met Levin in 84 after their KC show in Vancouver. I was outside the theatre hoping to ask Fripp a question. Tony emerged from the building first, he had a female companion, and was munching on an apple.
Me : you're great!
Him : thanks man!
He then extends his arm and we shook hands.
I wasn't there to talk to him but you always remember how encounters with important artists went. If they were positive, you stay a fan of the person for life. If it was negative, you no longer pay attention to their work.
My encounters with a handful of culturally significant people have been predominantly positive. The only negative event was with a Canadian comedian Brent Butt. He was off my radar after that day. Anyways...ya. Gabriel's voice is remarkable for someone 73 years old!
Tony is the best of the best ever!!
About 20 years ago, Tony and his band (pretty much Peter’s touring band) played at a small club that I’d worked at. He actually doesn’t live far from the city I was in. They were the nicest people you could meet. I’m a bass player, so it was a big deal for me meeting him. He signed my copy of Bass Player with him in the cover. He let me try out his gear.
At the end of the night we all went to the bar on the first floor and just talked about music, it was fantastic. After they had left, the tour manager came back in with an armful of Tony’s CD’s and said “We almost forgot, Tony wanted you to have these”. A perfect ending to the evening.
Thank you Mr. Levin for spending that time with all of us and for giving me some outstanding memories.
@timmerred5 great story! He's my favorite bassist for a bunch of reasons. I once met him as well and came away with the same feeling. He was down to Earth, friendly, and attentive. A person who's the opposite of the typical self absorbed, narcissistic, attention seeking diva personality that permeates the music industry.
It's amazing to see Peter at 73 pulling this off with this level of quality. Really shines a sad light on poor Phil Collins' condition. We all age at different speeds.
Peter was the tortise and Phil was the hare. Phil just completely burned himself out and then took really poor care of himself on his time off. Which stinks, because Phil was still 90% his old self in 2007. Less than a decade later and he wasn't even half that. Bums me out.
@@ryankramer Life is funny that way, in a not so funny way. Totally hear you on that...a great way of putting it.
Well, take a look at "young" Sting - 72 in October! Awesome shape and voice too!
@@thekeyboardess1150 Indeed! Great example for sure.
Just what i was thinking
I'm not really a Peter Gabriel fan, but this performance is simply incredible. It was like I just turned on the radio and was listening to it. It just goes to show that the music 40 years ago is STILL better than 99% of the music today. These "older" musicians have earned their keep. They all play REAL instruments. These are REAL songs. The deserve the utmost respect. Today's musicians pale in comparison as to what music and talent really is.
eh. get over yourself. from, a real instrumentalist and producer who knows that technique is not the end all. If it sounds good, and feels good, and people love it. its' good. IT DOESNT MATTER HOW IT'S MADE. Seriously. I"m sixty years old, i grew up with this music, but don't be a sad sack!
There’s always the one guy who admits he’s too lazy to discover new music.
Lots of awful music being made today. Lots of great music being made today. Lots of awful music being made 40 years ago. Lots of great music being made 40 years ago.
Uhhhh. Check out this and tell me it’s not “REAL MUSIC” ua-cam.com/video/i7IT6Ng9hEc/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
I don’t know….I think I can appreciate a comment like that more coming from someone who isn’t necessarily a fan of the artist. I don’t think that’s being a sad sack.
Indeed !! This performance IS pretty Amazing, when you take in considération the age of this legend. 👍👍👏👏👏👏👏
Apparently the prerequisite to being on the front line in Gabriel's touring band is to be completely bald! Sounding excellent.
The same guitar players he's had for years. Glad he kept them in this tour. 😊
Just what I was thinking...Perhaps Gabriel doesn't like his band members to have more hair than him...Sounds pretty good , but looks crappy with that silly walk and attempted dancing...
I love watching Peter, David, and Tony do their little walk together.
Eines seiner besten Songs. Beautiful ❤
He still has it and so does Tony Levin. He is such a legend. I had the opportunity to see him twice back in the 1980's and I was blown away. My hubby is a great fan of his and Genesis since he was a teenager. He has such great taste in music. I met Tony Levin when he played with Frampton and he was so nice, kind and funny. I might add handsome too. I spoke with him for 15 minutes.
@@MMCXIIWhyWhyZee At The Playpen down the Jersey Shore before they demolished it for condos. I also saw The Greg Allman Band that week. It was an amazing week of Rock and Roll. It is ashamed that all these great clubs are gone.
He didn't adjust the key, and fuckin' NAILED IT. The man is a legend.
Peter Gabriel and Tony Levin: “topless”, athletically fit, sure footed and looking younger with each tour. 🎸💞🎤
Still got it PG 🥰
Everyone who notices his voice in amazing shape , here are a few more male singers who can still do it around the same age , even if you aren’t into into their music. Give them a listen live : Bryan Adams , Dee Snider , Sammy Hagar . Anyone else ?
Billy Joel.
Tony Levin, David Rhodes, Manu Karché and PG is a match made in heaven ♥️
I really want to move like this at 73 years old. They are called great because they do things that few do.
BEAUTIFUL MUCIC IN BEAUTIFUL VERONA
The man’s a legend . How many sound the same after all these years ? ♥️
You wouldn't know it to look at him, but you sure as hell know it is him when he sings. My God...he sounds like the record. This is an amazing performance.
simply one of the best frontman/composers in rock of all time
My wife and I were here, amazing
Peter Gabriel and Tony Levin are magical together.
COME ON!!!! He's 73 freakin' years old! That one song would of either put me in the hospital or the ground and I'm 66! PLUS that's only part of a full show!! Colour me impressed!!
This is the first video I've seen from this tour and did NOT expect Peter to be as youthful and sounding absolutely incredible. Truly amazing in every sense of the word. The highest respect.
Gabriel's voice HASN'T changed❤❤
Both Tony Levin and Peter Gabriel are legends because of this songs longevity and relevance after so many years. Bravo
as long they two are playing together the world can't be lost...
Don't forget David Rhodes on guitar. He's been with Peter and Tony for over 40 years.
I'm impressed at how good he sounds. He's 73, most people's voices are barely recognisable by that age.
Bravo
If I listened to this, and didn't know this was recorded a few weeks ago, I would have believed it was recorded a few decades ago.
Gabriel's vocals are still what they were at 25. Incredible!
Not quite but impressive still
I'm with Intothewind, not at all the same, but great nonetheless. I went to what I thought would be his last tour 10 years ago, and from this, I'd say his vocals were in better shape this night than than night in Helsinki 10 years ago
@@IntoTheWhite04 oh shut up
I first heard him when he was 22.
years didn't change his attitude, grande PETER!!!!
Damn for 73 he still sounds the same like he did in the 80s. Amazing!
73 years old 😮 Imagine your grandfather doing this. Wild.
Peter Gabriel is an icon. He deserves all the respect and accolades. I truly hope that we can all enjoy his music for many more years to come.
Tony Levin & Co. A group of geriatrics with more passion, talent, and joy than any number of names you can scrape form today's charts.
Peter keep on man!! 🤟🤟
I was in year 10 when this song came out. Was such a brilliant piece of work for that period. Listening to it here in 2023 it still has hallmarks of genius. And this performance is as good and punchy as it was in 1986.
Saw PG live in 1986 in Bremen Germany. 37 years later he and the band are still smoking! 🎶🖖
As long as you're not suffering from something physically catastrophic, talent does not stop aging, the growth is continual. These guys are a testament....
I DARE you to sit still while listening to this! GO AHEAD!!
Jesus. No drop in power. No drop in physical presence. Absolutely one of the finest tracks ever recorded and BOY playing it live just shows the incredible and enduring power of one of the greatest true artists who has ever lived in mainstream music.
The synth at 03:25 takes me right back to 1986 when I was in my mid 20's.
The best decade *EVER* for music. We were so lucky to be young at such a time.
Man I wish I had that energy at 46yrs…. man he was flawless.
My Chost get's to Travel😊
1980, 1993, 2003, 2010, 2012, 2023
Merci Peter
Some people are just born to do something
Clearly Gabriel is signing. He is as good today as he was in the studio 40 years ago.
Crazy. Bounces around pretty good for his age.
Still sounding fantastic.. And the amazing Tony Levin
He still hits the notes and has the rhythmic precision required. He is approaching 80 years. He is Peter Gabriel.
i bloody love this bloke 😁 from the skinny and beautiful young man singing "i know what i like", in a bluebell hat, pushing a lawn mover - to this guy stomping about and getting the groove on. coolest and most amusing granddad ever. voice just as scintillating, decades later. mwah!
Wow! 73 and sounds absolutely awesome perfect live performance! Funny too! Bravo Peter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He's having a blast up there! Looking great!
Even his fun songs sound haunted. There’s no one like him.
...i remember Peter as a flower in the 70's with Genesis.....he's here nowaday to give us his vibrations...i only can say thanks to God about all the music and all the bands i've known from those years...❤
What a legend.
Still a babe rocking it at 73. Can't wait to finally see him Live in October!!!
This man was before his time when Phil still played the drums. This song is forever so much better than you know….even if you love the song!
THE G.O.A.T. !!!!
Thats how its done! Even crappy phone audio couldn't diminish it.. singing better than ever.
Damn, this sounds fantastic! Awesome to see Tony Levin and Manu Katche, solid rythm section!
Bit more than solid, don’t you think? Two of the best in the world on their respective instruments.
I have been impressed by the new album Peter released, but it is more amazing that he has the same voice in a live performance.
Peter Gabriel is the epitome of kool, love this guy
Does my heart good to see the older generation still out there making REAL music. Rock on. I'm not far behind.
We have lost so many entertainers in the last few years that I did not know until this very minute that Peter Gabriel is alive and well. How wonderful to find this out today November 16, 2023.😊❤❤❤Absolutely awesome voice of him and a fantastic song.
Un mito. Gli anni passano ma la musica resta
73 and crushing it.
That’s amazing.
Absolute fucking legend! Amazing song writer & vocalist & still kicking it out the park in 23! We are indeed very fortunate to have such a great musician still in our midst! 👍😉
Tony Levin… 76 years. Respect.
Mr Tony Levin doing magic on the bass
Absolutely killer! Gabriel and Levin are living legends.
He sounds just as good as he did when he 1st recorded this cut. What an honor & treat, from the days of Genesis 2 his solo career. KEEP ON JAMMIN MR. GABRIEL
Well said sir! You just can't cover tracks like that, there's only one voice that does it any justice, the original one! His phrasing & timing are superb, with wonderful range from tracks like this to Mercy Street etc! 😉👍
Close, but not quite. No way at 73 that you are going to sound as good as you did at 33.
@@j.t.cooper2963 - No to be fair the vocal chords age & thus what can be produced matures. To my ears he’s still doing a great job live & still dusts those wonderful tracks with the unique Gabriel magic! I’d pay to see him for sure! 👍😉
Gold. Still. So much fun to see Rich E, Manu Katche, David Rhodes and T-Lev together again.
Wow !! Just wow !! Nth time watching this ……Peter you are something most impressive !! What a band , what a voice - this song has a deep place in my heart and in my life - powerful , funky , beautiful- thank you thank you thank you 🙏🌏✌️🎼🎶🎸⚡️⚡️⚡️👏👏👏👏👏

One of the most underrated voices. Peter’s musical phrasing is unmatched
underrated voice?! probably one of the 5 most famous british male singers of all times.
Underr what?
Stop using that word puh-leeeaase!!
Stop using that word puh-leeeaase!!
how can anything or anyone be "most underrated"?
He, and the band, sound great!
Saw him in Dallas for this. Sledgehammer garnered the most energy by far. Lots of smiles on stage.
Undiminished…..unbelievable, his voice is still all there! A unique talent
Better with eyes closed. Great singing.
Excellent!❤💖💞💞💞💞💞💞👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍👍
One of the greatest tunes of all time executed brilliantly.
Wow, he did not lose a step! Great to see he’s still killing it at his age, contrary to some of his contemporaries….
Looking at his videos through the years is like watching a long, drawn out performance art piece about how the human body ages. And knowing Peter Gabriel, there's probably some element of intent to that.
He sounds great! And you can't go wrong with Tony Levin on bass!
His voice is in great shape, the band is nailing it, and Peter's physical movements border on parody. What is amazing is the crowd's response to him when he motions for them to sing. Levin, as usual is still near the top of his game.
Saw him at the O2 Arena on Monday 20.6.23 and he was brilliant, as was his band and the concept Geoff
Yesterday in Verona very very beautiful ❤❤❤Peter sublime.
Wow! Bravo Peter! Good Band.
Still jammin' with Tony Levin, David Rhodes, and Manu Katchu...wow.
