you2099 I always let people have their own opinions, but ”boring”? I get it if you simply don’t like it, but boring? Have you heard Sunflower vol 6? Golden? Treat people with kindness? Fine Line? etc.. Most artists are boring compared to that.. Anyhow i don’t want to argue or anything, just wanted to make sure that you’ve actually heard more than just his singles. (since his singles usually are quite mainstream in order to attract the bigger audience)

I'm really not a Harry Styles fan but i love Sledgehammer and Harry's voice is amazing for this song... totaly stunning. Huge cred to the rest of the band too. Nailed it!
I do not. Who would care for a copy which is doomed to fail compared to the original. WHo would go hear a xerox ? I want to hear artists put their musical vision in their cover, take risks, propose another reading. When Judas Priest covers Diamond and Rust, it is their own version. When Toris Amos covers Smells Like Teen Spirit, it doesn't in anyway ressembles the original.
In my opinion, this is a 95% copy, and I would’ve prefered either a 99 % (100 % is of course impossible), or a cover. This recreation seems to be in the middle. Well executed, but in the middle. Also, some of the groove is missing.
I wish he changed it up a bit and brought something different to the song, don't get me wrong it's not a bad cover ( not a Harry Styles fan) but it's too close to the original
to the ones who never listened harry before, my heart just melts seeing your comments, you are truly the best. also, another cover harry completely slayed. so proud of him!
I am grandma-age old and remember the original version. A couple of months ago I was refusing to listen to Harry since he was formerly in a boy band. I had read nice reviews of his latest CD and thought about listening, but I was still too stubborn. What did make me say WTH just listen to one song was his "Juice" cover, and I just sat there in awe when the song was finished. So I found more songs, bought both CDs, and asked my adult daughter (who also likes his music) if she wants to go to his concert when he comes our way. Yes, we are going! And I am so excited. He did a wonderful version of this song, one of my all time fave songs.
I'm 51 and a new fan. I was aware of 1D, but didn't listen to their music until recently. They were good together, but man, Harry just shines going solo. "Fine Line" is brilliant and I can't stop listening to this cover of Sledge 🔨. His band is really talented as well. Those ladies are kicking it! O.K., if loving Harry (at my age) is wrong, I don't wanna be right!!
@@lildouche731 He has an "old school vibe to him and seems to appeal to all ages. (Not that we're old, lol!) I wish I could go to a concert, but $450 per ticket is well over my budget.
what? where's the "tribute"? it's not even a "cover" it's a mimicry it's a computer generated copy may as well have watched Stern tap "play" on an iPhone
Absolutely AMAZING !!! They should release an official version of this cover...Peter Gabriel must be very honoured cause his legendary song is now closer to new generations
My dad is the exact same. I was in the car with him when this was on the radio, and he literally had to pull the car over he was so in awe. He loves Harry’s music now
OMG!--A Kick-Ass song, & the kid CAN sing. Knock me over with a feather. I saw Gabriel in concert in the 1980s, & he was incredible. Hats off to this kid.
I'm not surprised on his singing, i know he's got talent, what shocked me is how faithful the cover is, it really good and shows love and respect for the original
I agree with how faithful the cover was. It's clear he was definitely influenced by Peter Gabriel and has tons of respect for him. Sounded like a young Peter. Loved how he put in all of the 'vocal quirks' of the song and even the body movements were very 'Peteresque'. As a huge Gabriel fan this was very enjoyable. Job well done.
my parents came to me today like WE'VE HEARD THIS AMAZING COVER OF SLEDGEHAMMER and showed me this vid. how can i explain that as a 26 year old i've heard it 10000 times bc of our lord and saviour harry styles
Bro, I'm picturing the next HS concert full of genz, millennials and boomers. Some parents just coming alone to the concert without their children, enjoying Harry's timeless music. These comments from an older generation are making me feel at the moon. I'm so excited for Harry, he's definitely widening his target more and more.
This isn't just a cover. This is an homage to one of the best songs ever. The original's video may have contributed into it being huge, burning it's way into the retinas of the MTV generation, and becoming an iconic image of the 80s. It was first and foremost a bloody good song. Styles and the band should be commended on such an excellent job.
I was born in 81, when MTV came out and my brothers are 14 and 15 years older than me. This is the first song and video I saw and fell in love with! It plays clearly in my mind listening to this lol
I rarely write a comment, anywhere, but as a fan of the great Peter Gabriel, I have to say, what a great, absolutely fantastic cover this is! Kudos to the musicians, the drummer was great, Harry Styles was really good too and the sound mixing guy, amazing... really really good 🔥👍🏻😀 🎸
Oooh if you like Harry, you should listen to Ninja Sex Party's cover, Dan Avidan is an amazing singer and even has his own music, and to me he did sledgehammer great too!
Harry Styles & band just nailed it! Everyone is killing it but special props to the bass player and drummer. I hope Harry does more rock in the future.
Well you can also, listen to his solo stuff, he draws influence from these artists, check out his first album and his second fine line, and by the way it was so good that u liked this cover cheers😁
those comments praising him made me feel proud, and it felt like I was being praised too, because I'm a big fan of his. he’s really good, people just have to recognize it.
same !! like when they compliment him its like im being complimented too, its so wholesome. i love it when people who have never heard of him listen to something of his and instantly love him. it makes me feel so happy that hes my idol

He and his band should really record this and release as a cover single. I don’t compliment covers very often but, I mean it, this is legitimately this is one of the best covers I’ve ever seen! It’s just so well put together!
The fact that there are a lot of people saying their age and agreeing that Harry killed this song makes me more proud of him than I already was. He truly is a rock star and the world should know it. I love you H.
I NEVER thought that I might even consider giving my approval to Harry Styles covering a truly classic song by my all time favourite artist. But boy, you nailed it! Always works if you stay faithful to the original and use quality musicians. Excellent!
this year he was nominated for the brit awards both solo artist of the year and album of the year. he's very successful.... not sure how that is considered underrated.
A better word would be underestimated. People are always surprised by his talent because they assume because he’s originally from a boyband he isn’t talented which is a TERRIBLE assumption :)
Harry's solo stuff is some of the best music that has been put out in the last few years. Sign of the Times should have won a Grammy and his newest album Fine Line is mixed perfectly with every song being a potential hit. His appreciation for music history, classic rock really shows in his solo stuff. I hope he keeps it up!... still not sure about the granny outfit though. haha

His own stuff is boring as Heck. Check out his cover of Juice. The origional is 'Meh' but his version is tremendous.
@@you2449 His own stuff isn't boring though? Did you not listen to Adore you, Watermelon sugar, Lights up, Sunflower Vol 8, and literally every single one of his songs? Lmfao ok
you2099 I always let people have their own opinions, but ”boring”? I get it if you simply don’t like it, but boring? Have you heard Sunflower vol 6? Golden? Treat people with kindness? Fine Line? etc.. Most artists are boring compared to that.. Anyhow i don’t want to argue or anything, just wanted to make sure that you’ve actually heard more than just his singles. (since his singles usually are quite mainstream in order to attract the bigger audience)
Boring? Granted he hasn't put medicine on an album yet but he's definitely not boring.

The drummer, is seriously good. Plus i cannot believe I'm now a huge Harry styles fan. Like this guy can really sing. His solo stuff is awesome
Who is she ?
🙌🏻🙌🏻
Ha. I know what you meant full credit..he has a voice👌
Yes it’s actually Sarah’s band (drummer) Harry’s just the vocalist ✋🏽😌
1D stuff was great too believe me
I'm really not a Harry Styles fan but i love Sledgehammer and Harry's voice is amazing for this song... totaly stunning. Huge cred to the rest of the band too. Nailed it!
Shows his talent and understanding of music. I absolutely love this cover and I'm a huge Peter Gabriel fan/follower.
This cover is immaculate!! Also props
to Harry for introducing the younger generations to the great music of the past.
They completely nailed this! Can he release an album of all 80s covers PLEASE???!!!???
That would be so cool -my favorite era of music.
This guy is an insane artist. Boy band mumbo jumbo aside, this guy is meant to be a solo performer. Well done!
jshrckstar hey hey one direction isn’t Mumbai jumbo pal
You should look up Scott Walker, this isn't the first time someone has taken this career path ;)
He's a born star it's everything
And the team he has is insanely talented
JT started that way too!! 🤗
my fave is the drummer is all smiles till she kills it
Harry is one of the most genuine and musically talented artists we have seen in years.
Sounds like a simple cover
Powerful claim. Objectively no but in your subjective opinion for you totally.
agreed!
If you’re 3 years old
The girl is called Ny Oh, she's so cool man
Harry when you chose that drummer you struck gold.
Her name is Sarah Jones - It's actually her band. Harry even jokes that they "just let him sing".
Was thinking the same thing, she’s super cool!
Search for Sarah Jones Bloc Party as she was awesome as their drummer too. Now they have the awesome Louise Bartle.
Sarah Jones - she just brings it ❗️👏👏
Yea, the entire band is tight AF.
Me reading comments from people who don't listen to Harry and like loving the cover just makes me happy
i’m fr about to stan
sameee
Such a Banger!!
@@turnleftaticeland welcome to the fandom buddy😁
Same
This is hands down the best cover of Sledgehammer ever, harry is absolutely talented amazing voice!! I can close my eyes and hear Peter Gabriel
You must be deaf.
"I can close my eyes and hear Peter Gabriel". I wouldn't go that far love!
(although Harry was very good).
Me, too!!!!
Whole band crushed this
This is not a cover - it's an exact copy. And I mean that as a huge compliment.
Yes
Exactly
If you're gonna cover a song, do it exactly as the original, it's a major compliment to the artist. This was AWESOME!
Sarah getting all the love she deserves>>>>
Everyone is clearly top of their game but the drummer absolutely fascinates me. Incredible talent.
Soo glad hes finally being accepted by a broader community of music fans. His solo work.and voice are incredible
Agreed 👍👍👍
Indeed. He sounds almost as good as the singer he tries to imitate. The young generation clearly have found their idol...
I wish he changed it up a bit and brought something different to the song, don't get me wrong it's not a bad cover ( not a Harry Styles fan) but it's too close to the original
I feel like a proud mom reading all the comments about how good and talented Harry is 😂🌻
Love this man with my whole heart ❤️
Vale C. MOOD
Vale C. Me too ❤️ sad I may not get to see my “son” in August. 🙁
Exactly
Same here 🙋 I'm scrolling down for that haha. He's unique 💜
Vale C. YES
to the ones who never listened harry before, my heart just melts seeing your comments, you are truly the best. also, another cover harry completely slayed. so proud of him!
O.K., if loving Harry (at my age) is wrong, I don't wanna be right!!
daria hs what other covers has he done
@@lildouche731 He has an "old school vibe to him and seems to appeal to all ages. (Not that we're old, lol!) I wish I could go to a concert, but $450 per ticket is well over my budget.
This performance is perfect vocally and musically. They were all in their best groove. You can tell they knew it and were feeling it. So so good.
Better than I expected... a great tribute to the original
what? where's the "tribute"?
it's not even a "cover"
it's a mimicry
it's a computer generated copy
may as well have watched Stern tap "play" on an iPhone
Wasn't expecting much but when he sang the first words, I thought holy crap it's Peter!
@@brightymcbrightfacecan't see a computer anywhere there... All I can see is a bunch of amazing artists
Dude they killed this song, the synths on point
Bass guitar, too. Hard to duplicate "the master" - Tony Levin! What a fun version of a great tune!
So im old enough to remember watching this video on MTV..never heard a better cover in my life.
the video is fascinating.... stop motion at its best and the song still rocks in 2020
I was thinking the same thing. Incredible cover of a Peter Gabriel song.
this song was the theme to all the lego stop motions videos where i made them explode
I grew up with the original too. Harry's version is amazing!
harries approve this comment
Absolutely AMAZING !!! They should release an official version of this cover...Peter Gabriel must be very honoured cause his legendary song is now closer to new generations
I showed this to my dad (52) huge fan of Gabriel and also a kind of a bitter bastard to be honest; he was delighted
My dad is the exact same. I was in the car with him when this was on the radio, and he literally had to pull the car over he was so in awe. He loves Harry’s music now
I love the fact that a bitter bastard like your dad could be so Dee lighted.
it makes me so happy to read that
That is awesome! I just read a comment that said he he was lip syncing because it sounded too much like Peter Gabriel. 🙄🙄
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Harry has one of the best bands in the world, they're really killin it.
They're just a backing band F.F.S.
It's really Sarah's band.
ChristopherFrankTV are you serious? please tell me you’re joking
@ Okay hot stuff, let's see you cover this song on your own then, since you're clearly well over the age of 10.
@ it's not about the complexity, its about the groove, man
Everything sounds studio mixed live at Stern's. It's incredible
Mr. Blonde agreed. I am consistently blown away at how clean this shit sounds.
Mr. Blonde right?!?! Sound is impeccable
You don’t think they fix it up a bit afterwards? I’m being serious. Just curious.
Prerecorded.
Peter Gabriel a total legend, beautiful cover, thanks Harry and the band for this master piece,
OMG!--A Kick-Ass song, & the kid CAN sing. Knock me over with a feather. I saw Gabriel in concert in the 1980s, & he was incredible. Hats off to this kid.
you should listen to fine line!
Come to see him live on his tour if you can afford it, mate. Trust me, you won't regret it! He has the performer spark!
Yay!! 100th Vote Up!! ( I'm a cheap date).
I wish they could do a duet their both great with their unique styles LOVE them both one generation to another fantastic😍😍😃😃💋💋
He has always been able to sing!
I'm not surprised on his singing, i know he's got talent, what shocked me is how faithful the cover is, it really good and shows love and respect for the original
Very well said
well put
Just confess 😅
lol, love when ppl try to tell me or show me something about Harry. Like wow, new information!
That never happened but ok
Bro, I'm picturing the next HS concert full of genz, millennials and boomers. Some parents just coming alone to the concert without their children, enjoying Harry's timeless music. These comments from an older generation are making me feel at the moon. I'm so excited for Harry, he's definitely widening his target more and more.
@@misslongfellow8988 u can videochat my parents if u want
I was not expecting that !!! Wow wow wow .. closed my eyes and I could hear Peter Gabriel singing it !! Bravo Harry and band . Bravo !!
"Bad case of loving you" is way better
Yup, the MTV video was stunning! Miss those art pieces as they were a joy to watch.
I was born in 81, when MTV came out and my brothers are 14 and 15 years older than me. This is the first song and video I saw and fell in love with! It plays clearly in my mind listening to this lol
This is the first time I've appreciated the song more than the video
I rarely write a comment, anywhere, but as a fan of the great Peter Gabriel, I have to say, what a great, absolutely fantastic cover this is! Kudos to the musicians, the drummer was great, Harry Styles was really good too and the sound mixing guy, amazing... really really good 🔥👍🏻😀 🎸
Harry is cool
Jorge Muñoz Mendoza It really is an amazing cover!!!
Oooh if you like Harry, you should listen to Ninja Sex Party's cover, Dan Avidan is an amazing singer and even has his own music, and to me he did sledgehammer great too!
that drummer, hot damn
Listening to that bass man it's awesome.
I never realized how good Harry is and I love the band!
His albums are great. I'm a huge fan of his music. Very layered, honest and well-produced
He's amazing, check out both his albums. He does plenty of other covers too.
Harry Styles & band just nailed it! Everyone is killing it but special props to the bass player and drummer. I hope Harry does more rock in the future.
Unbelievable version. Sooo good. And the drummer...FANTASTIC JOB. 😍
Miss Sarah Jones, she's incredible. Do check out his performances of Kiwi and Anna, she practically carries the songs. He's fantastic, of course :)
It takes a lot of balls to cover Gabriel's Sledgehammer. This guy has them. Way to go, killer version.
competent but safe cover
Well you can also, listen to his solo stuff, he draws influence from these artists, check out his first album and his second fine line, and by the way it was so good that u liked this cover cheers😁
He's with a good band
Especially so while sporting a rather fine example of the "Pearl Necklace"
Great version? It's not really any different
those comments praising him made me feel proud, and it felt like I was being praised too, because I'm a big fan of his. he’s really good, people just have to recognize it.
same !! like when they compliment him its like im being complimented too, its so wholesome. i love it when people who have never heard of him listen to something of his and instantly love him. it makes me feel so happy that hes my idol

Made me understand how musical Harry Styles really is. This cover is amazing!
Wow, I am pretty blown away. Am I a Harry Styles fan?
You should be :)
Yes, don't fight it. He's amazing.
If you aren't yet, you will be as soon as you listen to his album Fine Line
Welcome dude 😂
Yes you are
I love the way he just sang it the way it was without trying to put his own stamp on it.... brilliant!!
Me too. I think is his way to show respect about his idols. Is similar when he covered to Joni Mitchell recently. When he wants to make covers with his own touch he can like his covers of Girl crush and Ultrralight beam
Hey 👋🏻 I’m new and was wondering if you could check out a cover I made of ⭕️Harry Styles Lights Up that’s on my channel. Would really appreciate it⛓
He and his band should really record this and release as a cover single. I don’t compliment covers very often but, I mean it, this is legitimately this is one of the best covers I’ve ever seen! It’s just so well put together!
Totally agree....I can't stop watching it. I'm a huge gabriel fan.... this cover is mindblowing
I'm such a cover song where but they better as good or better. He and his band bodied this cover
Listen to Morgan James sing this!!!
It’s great but it needs a real horn section.
It is honestly so good.
The band members are wicked talented . The backup singers playing keyboards , the vibe .. that drummer .., that drummer .
The fact that there are a lot of people saying their age and agreeing that Harry killed this song makes me more proud of him than I already was. He truly is a rock star and the world should know it. I love you H.
So impressive, my God
Nailed it!
This generation is so lucky to have him wow
@Laser Printer I’m not wrong…
Possibly one of the best covers of this song I’ve ever seen. You can tell Harry is a fan of the song, the version was pure to the original. Choice as!
Possibly one of the best covers of ANY song I've ever seen.
I NEVER thought that I might even consider giving my approval to Harry Styles covering a truly classic song by my all time favourite artist. But boy, you nailed it! Always works if you stay faithful to the original and use quality musicians. Excellent!
you should check out his own music, might just find something you'll like. She, Fine Line, Ever Since New York, Canyon Moon, all good tunes.
What a great performance and fantastic band as well. You can see how much they all enjoy it.
With two amazing albums under his belt, Harry Syles is becoming a global artist by himself.
This f-ing RULES!! So clean
*SO* Clean + crisp sounding 🧼
this band is AMAZING... also, Harry is underrated.
Harry is not underrated
this year he was nominated for the brit awards both solo artist of the year and album of the year. he's very successful.... not sure how that is considered underrated.
Betsy Mayo Lmao Harry isn’t underrated
bro hes everything but underrated
A better word would be underestimated. People are always surprised by his talent because they assume because he’s originally from a boyband he isn’t talented which is a TERRIBLE assumption :)
This is one of the best covers that I’ve ever seen and heard, damn! That was good!
Absolute Class
Harry's solo stuff is some of the best music that has been put out in the last few years. Sign of the Times should have won a Grammy and his newest album Fine Line is mixed perfectly with every song being a potential hit. His appreciation for music history, classic rock really shows in his solo stuff. I hope he keeps it up!... still not sure about the granny outfit though. haha
Agree with every word you wrote
Bowie did it!
Couldn't agree more. With all! 😅
Crossing my fingers Fine Line get the awards it's deserves fr fr 🤞
The thing about the granny outfit is that he can actually pull off anything so🙈😝
I just discovered H.S. with this song... So glad I know who he is now. Killer cover... !!!
You should check his album, it's pretty great
Check out their cover of “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac, too. It’s amazing.
Check out his albums, if you're a fan of Pink Floyd, you'll probably love the first one. You won't regret it, sir!

This guy is not just a pretty necklace, he can also sing. Good job.
And can write good songs, can perform, can act and can host talk- shows: Apparently he can do everything which belong to the definition of an artist
You copied another comment by Mr Blonde down below literally word for word, including the "it's incredible" part. Very odd of you to do that.
Reeeemarkable!! I have a new found respect for Harry Styles, this was just great
i think i’ll never be over the fact that he covered one of my all time favorites and he did it so well. god, the way i love Harry.
