A huevooo,!!👍👍👍
Damn what a drum kit. Only a true master could play that. RIP NP
Totally.... And I'm not even a big fan, but your comment make souch sense for my
You should be glad that you had the experience of seeing them, im only 18 from Argentina, discovered Rush in August 2020, i wont ever have a chance to see them
RIP Neil. You were one of a kind.
assholes are not one of a kind.
Too bad he wasn't given better material to work with. So so music, so so drumming
@@artheisenbergscourier5726 what do yo call someone that follows the band around?
@@artheisenbergscourier5726 And so so critiquing. Maybe you should try something else.
Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.
This song is now over 42 years old and is still better than anything on the charts
true
Because the space it invades, gets by on you !
I get so depressed when I am forced to confront the fact I will NEVER see Rush live again.
It is though. My dads one of their biggest fans seeing them over 30 times live. He took me to see them on the clockwork angels tour and to this day its still the best live show I have seen. I swear if you closed your eyes you'd think you were listening to the album version of each song.
we never know
Same here bro. It’s a bummer. At least we have countless albums to listen to and some good vids
I read the comments and i had to share. I missed the chance to see rush perform back sometime between 2008-2012 i cant recall exactly. But was living in upstate New York and they performed 45 mins away from where i lived at the time. Old co workers had tickets to a show but i missed the phone call that they had tickets and wanted me to go with them. Im finally able to call them back and they had to bring along one of our other co workers, who wasnt even a rush fan and nearly got them kicked out the venue rush was performing at. Smh till this day i think about it. For the life of me i cant even remember why i missed the call that would of ended up being a life changing experience that was much needed cause was going through some life issues. But yes i am sadden as well. 😭
So grateful I was able to see them the four times I did. It was always better than the studio.
Just 3 guys who mastered music. No flash b.s., no egos
You know you're a badass drummer when the Hall of Fame sets up an overhead camera directly on your kit during your induction. RIP, Neil, and thanks for the amazing music and inspirations.
Best ever!
Trademark, Neil!
Why do I have this feeling of deja vu when I'm reading your comment ?
Agree!!!!
Neil was a professional in a band of professionals. .
How the fuck can they even do that? Just a spectacular performance of a modern classic. A pocket symphony - by 3 guys, live.
You could listen to this song 1000X+ and that intro will never get old...
A trio of talent never to be replaced, true originals.
I don’t know migos is pretty legendary
@@tdkz72 Did you forget about The police and the stray cats They were very popular 3 piece bands too. The stray cats were very talented with just a drummer , guitarist and stand up bass player no electronics like Rush used

Ive never been a rush fan, but learning that their sound is made with three people is incredibly impressive.
Good
Rush is the final boss for 3-piece bands
@@MM-vs2et I think cream is up there though. Every one of the members of cream was one of the best musicians to play their instruments
I first "met" Rush years ago putting together a Rush laser show in a planetarium. Opened with "Spirit of Radio" and at that first Rush logo and sound, our audiences went wild, week after week. I fell in love with their music then and never looked back on a pre-Rush life!! (My favorite, I think, is "Subdivisions." Can't help but dance and sing along. Long live all three, on either side of the Garden!)
I feel the same. Not a hardcore Rush fan, but every time I listen to them I just ask myself "how the heck 3 guys can make such a powerful and tight sound?!"
They are amazingly talented.
My wife and I were there. The big whistle raining down from the rafters was (proudly) me. My favorite band, ever.
I wish I had been....
Just unbefuckinleivable. 40 years now and Tom Sawyer still blows my tiny little mind
Awesome. Geddy's voice is an example of how musicians have to adjust to aging. His upper range is clearly not there. These guys were always incredible musicians, instrumentalists and showmen.
Yes.. And it doesn't matter. Geddy's singing and bass playing was only 1/3rd of Rush. The talent soo balanced.. WTF took soo long for them to be in the RHOF! Glad they got in before Neal passed. I feel like I was a part of their family
His singing is completely different than when he was younger. Too bad, Getting old sucks.
adjust? you mean bomb lol
@@scottcook9823 Geddy, his synthesizer, his bass, and vocals are 1/3 of Rush and he could do all 3 simultaneously.
Plus his voice hasn't even dropped a full octave.
Most technically proficient drummer I've ever seen! R.I.P Neil.
Yes.
I wonder if Neil thinks he nailed it at this performance.
He has stated he never tires of playing Tom Sawyer as it is so difficult to play correctly; each attempt is a challenge.
(And this from the guy that WROTE the piece.)
@The Big Boss Man I've only heard a little of Buddy Rich but I've heard Neil say before that he thought Buddy was the best
Neil took lessons from Buddy Rich.
@@dalemartell8639 Sweet. I saw a video once of Buddy Rich. He was awesome. Just didn't see enough of him to make a judgment. Didn't want to be one of these guys to comment on someone just because I heard the name before
@Paraig Mc Gee Absolutely. Love Danny Carey on 46 & 2. Awesome.
.
Geddy’s bass tone is unbelievable
How Neil can pull off drumming like this and just be so nonchalant about it, just shows how much talent this guy has. Not to mention he's probably played this song a billion times.
His cardio had to be phenomenal. He looks like he is exerting no more energy than if he were reading the morning paper.
He also wrote most of the Lyrics to the Songs Rush Sings. He was incredible!! From his time joining Rush up-to and After his passing, Neil was the bands *Lyricist*, Now you can "WOW" more for Neil.
@@jeffgordon8346 yeah....and I never saw the man sweat!!!
and he played with pain a lot of the times -- watch their documentaries (I forgot which one in particular speaks about it) but once I learned of that my respect for his playing went even higher. He did full concerts with pains in his feet and I think his back or legs I can't recall.
Nonchalant? Look at that concentration. The professor always expects perfection from himself.
Geddy always looks like he enjoys his job with every fibber of his being.
...you posted my feelings exactly...like he's giving 200%!

Geddy Lee, Neil Peart and Alex Lifeson.

Hardly since there are over 100 3 piece Rock bands
A precise definition of POWER TRIO !
Not only was Neil the heart of the band, the drummer but he was also the lyricist, the mind. We lost an all time great when we lost him. Love you forever. Thank you RUSH
Yep- with the exception of very few songs, including this one. Though it was about him and edited by Rush- by Pye Dubois
I’ve seen a lot of performances, but perfection is rare. I understand why Neil always said Tom Sawyer was the most difficult song to play. Getting it perfect every time is the goal. I can’t find a flaw. So, kids…count yourself lucky to have seen perfection. It now rests in peace. ✝️
Even with Geddy losing that high end a bit as he ages, this is the finest three man rock band to ever grace a stage. Three musicians nonpareil.
I can live without the high notes. I've rarely loved a song solely because the singer sung "high notes." I saw Zeppelin before and after 1972. I never cried that Robert couldn't hit the high notes. But others cry and bemoan that. Their loss. Zeppelin was one of the best bands to experience live.
I don’t know why people think that range lasts forever. Your voice really has limitations as you age, especially high notes like that. You can tell Geddy is a talented singer because he’s able to work around his limitations and still nail it every time. That’s the part that makes them so awesome
King's X has entered the chat
In my opinion The greatest trio Rock Band ever is ELP ..But Rush comes close.
Kurt cobain says hello.
Rush is the only organic supergroup that I know. They came together first, then discovered each was a superstar in their own right.
The word you need is "synergy", the sum is greater than the aggregate individual parts. I think they fed off each other's ambition for continuous improvement.
ELP were organic.
Very well said!
I Love that Rush was able to make philosophy sound like poetry and deliver that with fantastic music
This song is perfection....Rock at it's finest.
Sad to think that not only will Rush never play again, but that Neil will never play that amazing kit again. That thing is a wonder to behold.
I'm not sad. We're way to lucky to be sad. Think about all the people, past and future that will never get to experience Rush live like we did. We must adjust to changes. We've got all of our memories.
Does Canada have a version of the US's Smithsonian? It needs to be put there.
How 3 guys from Canada changed the music landscape & brought so much joy & imagination to musicians, with a sound so big you cant imagine they are just 3 guys
Amen to that! \m/
Amazing how only 3 guys can create such an avalanche of sound, music and lyrics to become one of the most iconic rock songs. Just 3 guys.
Geddy sacrificed his later years voice to give us 20 years of untouchable magic that can never be taken away.
Neil hitting every single beat 100%. Amazing.
He actually misses a crash at 0:59, but it's not like any of us could do better. XD
One of the world’s greatest Rock and Roll bands, past and present.

they rank 88 in US record sales not that great
@@poet7158 Record sales do not determine how good a singer or band is, only how POPULAR they are. The taste of the plebs is often in question, too. You need only look to the 80s to see this. :P
@@Godstud Really dude? If I sold 500 million records and you sold 200 million records which one of us is more popular ?The most popular band would sell more records.
That brilliant combination of glorious sounds comes from just THREE guys... VERY talented guys!
Geddy is so talented and can work around his vocal limitations. Amazing band. Still am trying to digest the complexity and artistry of their music. Saw them live once in the 80’s and couldn’t believe the clarity and fidelity of the sound system. It wasn’t overly loud. The bass was so tight it was like a sonic punch. Hard to believe three guys could dish out that much sound.
Yeah, man!
The guy is running at god level…
Truly a Musician's Musician.
He sounded as if he was trying to ride a bike up a mountain and sing at the same time.

What I truly appreciate about Rush was that they weren’t in it for the fame or glory - they were 3 Canadian guys who wanted to make the best music they could. By far, they have got to be one of, if not the most underrated, yet influential band of all time.
Thank you Rush, and to Neil, the likes of whom we may never see again.
And they never put themselves above anyone else. They knew they were talented yet never claimed to be better than any other band.

The best 3 peice band. Close second Grand Funk Railroad.
They certainly made up for Celine Dione.
To my very tolerant, patient neighbors to the north: Well beyond these rock stars, you guys contribute more than your fair share of pop culture gems, eh?
I still can't believe Neil is gone. That man directed my drumming life when I was a kid. No one influenced me more than Mr. Peart. Love that man!

One of the greatest pieces of music ever written!! Just three greats melting faces and dropping jaws! These new bands today wouldnt even know where to begin to write a masterpiece like this.

Am not a Rush fan but there’s no doubt they’re one of the best rock n’ roll bands; and to think it took this long, and “of some of the inductees” selected by the R&RHOF in past years, is puzzling. Well done, Rush, you’ve earned your place in rock n’roll history, without any questions.
So thankful I was privileged to see them in Concert in the early eighties...
Wow. Just Wow

My first Rush show was on the Moving Pictures tour in 81 and I've seen them 44 times since, concluding with the Clockwork Angels tour. Sadly I didn't get to see the 40th anniversary tour.
Three clever lads showing how clever they are. Thank you for your first album.
Saw them in 1975 in Wichita. My hearing has never been the same....
RIP Neil....
I saw them in 1994 in St Louis. I was deaf for 5 days. Ive seen King Diamond in a club and didn't have this level of pain.
I couldn't tell one instrument from another. It ruined it
I saw them in Austin Oct 30-1975.
Surreal show- 15 feet from stage
1975... it started for me back then. I mowed tons of lawns to buy the 3 in one album lp "Archives"... I'm 57 yrs old now in the year 2021 and still love them more than ever. Hats off to the band. Bow to the fans.. and forever grateful to our lord for his timing for myself to be on the planet when they started their journey.
Absolutely nuts how Rush weaves all these parts together into such sophistication. Then, they just plain execute. Amazing.
Love the mix on this one. Hats off to the production dudes . . .
Everything was crystal clear, indeed!
Neil never missed a beat. Insane drumming from the GOAT!
There's really nothing quite like hearing some old rockers who really know their shit, when they play.

Rush is and will always be a part of my life . Rush and VanHalen....how lucky was I to hear and see live these two AMAZING BANDS !!!!!!!!
i was a big Rush fan thanks to my algebra teacher, who introduced me to them. Every morning i would go into his classroom to listen to music and talk about it. Then i heard the news about Neil Peart, we just listened to rush that morning, didn't even talk.
And this is live …incredible ..

Everyone talking about Geddys struggles.. but at 2:55 he really nailed it. Great stuff and we miss you Neil.
Are you tone deaf?
Best power trio in the world just schooling the audience on how it's done.
It never gets old.... I remember when this came out when I was in high school. Now my 13 year old son and 15 year old daughter turn this and Yes on all of the time. Timeless....!

Makes you wonder if Neil just sat there and the roadies assembled the kit round him?
I was thinking the same thing
Saw them at the Spectrum in Philly back too many years ago, and the back third of the set was hinged; and would open up to let him in. (Thank you, St Paul, patron of run-on sentences).
There's a small area where he could enter from the backside.
Like Iron Man's original suit? 😉
He was actually lowered in from a specially designed crane. The band had to go on tour to pay for its comission.

RIP Neil , God take care of you...
Amazing the impact a song can have for generations. Tom Sawyer will be remembered beyond the year 3000.
Only saw them once, June 1974 at a bar called Larry's Hideaway in Toronto where they played the contents of their yet to be released 1st album. I was on an installer course for Bell and one of the guys told me and another guy he wanted to take us to see a band he knew of. Needless to say I'm happy I went.
Neil would talk about how he knew if he was going to have a good night was based on how he played this.
And on the night they went in the hall of fame he was flawless.
Honestly think that Lee’s voice mixes in perfectly with his older age. It shows off his many years of not actually being from this planet.
...finally, a truly great comment that makes sense about Geddy's voice...
So blessed to have seen them on the 2112 tour! RIP Neil!
Best drummer ever, best bant EVER, Rush Is beyond the best
One of the best in 1000 jears. The best in this century. Questions?
I am very happy for Neil (RIP) and the band that they were given their full glory at a time that they were were still physically able to enjoy it and perform like above!
I was never a big rush fan, but my friend was. Finally went to a rush concert with him in the late 90s in South suburban Chicago. I was frckn blown away.
The memories this song brings with several other songs of working with an old friend of mine hanging drywall in new houses listening to radio. This was one of the many classic rock songs played during those days. Unfortunately the friend I had so many good memories with is no longer with us.
