A Master commands the stage. No non-live backing tracks, no auto-tune, no crap, just pure genius, singing in 2023 just like he did in 1977. Serving notice to those that would pretend to greatness. Remarkable.
@@paulv22 Drummer is Manu Katche and bass player is Tony Levin of King Crimson. Peter’s band is one of the reasons he consistently provides quality live performances. He’s one of a very few artists I will see EVERY time he tours.
... no auto-tune ... passing time has brought "maturity" to that generation artists ... but also "immaturity" to this generation audience who asks less and less for a money value ticket !
When Peter played solo in Chicago for the first time... When the concert was over.. people kept yelling for more... He played this song again... (He had already played it) We were nuts😂
As a cello player anything with an orchestra will draw me in. That said this song has changed along with the performers. It hasn't had competition from itself in another era. It's become the property of every performer here. All the negatives embraced with the same appreciation as the positives that make it a different and long lasting creation. Like changing entire speaker setups. Each is as new and treasured for itself as the first time it was played. Gabriel has said it best referring to the song's meaning, "It's about being prepared to lose what you have for what you might get ... It's about letting go. For me it's 15 inch woofers in place of 12 and a pair of Super tweeters for the 40K range. Then playing them at a volume where a mouse fart in a corner can be acknowledged. If I think it can't get better I realize it can by being different each time.
I love that he gooses the crowd participation - and that after all these years, he’s still jamming with Tony Levin, David Rhodes, and Manu Katche back on the drums.
After all these years, I only just now realized this song's magic lies in its 7/8 time signature. It feels so natural. It gives the song a sense of urgency.
so fluid and natural, brilliant song and musicianship. And Liverpool fans are the only fans i know to sing in 7/4 😃 ( they use the main hook to sing liverpool to)
We just saw his gig at London O2 and can confirm, he's absolutely still got it (so have Levin, Rhodes and Katche). An amazing performance, so much energy and joy from all of them. Pity this video doesn't show the staging tech/animation art, which is also just stunning.
Genesis was exceptional in their performance and their stage presence. And those lights! Watching Peter Gabriel all these years later I can see that he brought much of the magic to their show, and that he was then, and still is, a master at his craft. A giant among performers and a joy to behold.
Thanks for the upload. What a wonderful performance by everyone on stage! Peter's voice sounds amazing, and he still sings this in the original key of B major!
Agree…. mesmerised at Newcastle city hall 1970 support band to Lindisfarne me aged 13 and many times after. shame about post wind and wuthering Genesis, my humble opinion only you 😍
The show was amazing in Verona and to have Tony, David and Manu playing made it extra special for me .I also loved the new guy on horns because he was so enthusiastic he looked like a fan up on stage . One of the highlights of my life ❤❤❤
What an a completly amazing performance he is just the most talented guy and doen'st sound any different to when he was younger what an absolute guy xx Love him xx
Peter is incredible. He can still skip around the stage at his age, wow! I do miss the red dress and fox's head though, but that was another time and place.
Wow. He sounds amazing. His voice still every ounce of character. A living legend....i feel lucky that we have video like these of treasures like Peter Gabriel.
He’s one of those performers that I’ve never got to see despite being a big fan since he first went solo. My loss. I’d still love to see him if these posts are anything to judge by.
Tony Levin is just the coolest guy on the planet.
Amo demais ❤. Vem fazer show aqui no Brasil❤❤❤❤

I don't know the other musicians, but his drummer and bass player are each at the top of their class.

Absolutely! Going to see him in Birmingham on Saturday - can't wait!

@@paulv22 Tony Levin on bass. For decades, and a King Crimson and Yes alumni.
What a fantastic band he has. Tony Levin is a monster of a bass player.
a top bass player !!
@@callingchristiano Absolute top. Being circa 2 weeks before his 77th birthday! Unbelievable power.
His phrasing is incredible and voice is rock solid. Respect to my favorite frontman, still the best.
Der alteMann kann es immer noch......perfekt

Mr Gabriel is unrecognizable from when this song first came out! But he’s still the best!
Tony Levin just doesn't age. You wouldn't think he was almost 80
The power of music, doing what you love and surrounding yourself with like minded people❣️🎸
Complimenti video bellissimi
Grazie
Released 46 years ago, and this brilliant artist can still sing it in the original key! Respect beyond belief...
46 years... my God. I don´t belong here anymore!
Right? ❤ it! Lyrics like Shakespeare too. The skipping was pretty impressive i must add.
Yeah, that's pretty freakin' amazing! Love this song!
Indeed but….😂
Doesn’t quite hit the high notes. However, brilliant nevertheless. Hope I can strut my stuff like PG at his age.
So Gabriel and Collins in Genesis back in the day. Peter takes the cake. Love ❤️ them both
Peter Gabriel. A legend ❤
Reminds me of his fabulous show in Zurich last year. Unbelievable, such energy in a man of that age.
Peter Gabriel out here skipping in his 70s! Remarkable! Truely one of the best to ever do it
I regonized Tony Levin in an instant. An absolute legend.
And is 77 years old next month, and still doing his thing on stage.
Yeah, I just might see this tour after all, seeing he's still there!
What a Brilliant Musician as well as his Band! He's still Rocking in his 70's!
My favourite Peter Gabriel song.
Hands down!
I love that he gooses the crowd participation - and that after all these years, he’s still jamming with Tony Levin, David Rhodes, and Manu Katche back on the drums.
says it all that those grandmasters of their instruments are still staying with peter gabriel having tons of fun.
What d'you call a bunch of 70 year olds being supported by a bunch of under 30's? .........probably one of the best concerts you'll ever see!!! lol
😂❤
Yyeesssssssss
Magnificent 👍
YES!
( and I love their haircuts ;^)
A bunch of Tony Levin lookalikes, while Tony himself looks exactly the same.
David, Manu, Tony, ・・・ You are lifetime partners for Peter, aren't you !
Singing in the original key! Incredible.
Tony Levin, the legend
king crimson
Pure class
Superb one off voice
Please give us more musical geniuses. They are dying and not being replaced! Thank you PG!
my heart's going.......!!!

Not many songs that sound as fluid and natural in 7/4 as this. Amazing talent, songwriting & performance! 🤘😎🤘
One of the best odd-time songs ever.
Yes. Like you say, it flows. It's not until you actually count it that it's obvious.
so fluid and natural, brilliant song and musicianship. And Liverpool fans are the only fans i know to sing in 7/4 😃 ( they use the main hook to sing liverpool to)
Bonita canción
Absolutely beautiful... Thank you

You still have it Peter Gabriel.
A hill I climbed 13 years ago after my brother Shaun died. 3 pm in the morning I could see the city lights! ❤️
Wunderschön ich liebe dieses Lied 😘💋❣
Ich mag es auch, schönes Lied 😊
I was wondering how he was doing lately. Thanks for giving up your concert experience to film this for us.
Damn, he sounds AMAZING! Gawd bless ya Peter Gabriel!

What a performance, amazing, PG singing skipping around like a kid.
Già dal impostazione i musicisti sono da brividi
Grazie Peter per avere risvegliato la mia gioventù, dandomi un immenso piacere 😊

Loved him from Genesis till now. His solo work was breathtaking & very few in truth come close to his irrepressible & very unique talent! 👍

This man is a living legend!
His voice is still the same, sound excactly the same as I saw him in Oslo - 86! Fantastic! And look at Tony Levin! Both are true legends!!😀🤩

Peter Gabriel! Looking fit + in fine voice. Nice one Peter!
I've got tickets for his Palm Springs concert in October, and I am stoked to see him perform.
There are good songs and great songs. Then the odd masterpiece like this.
The greatest of them all .

Great to see Tony and David there...like old times. Saw David playing with Japan on the Tin Drum Tour many years ago.
Wow, very much looking forward to Manchester.
Thank you all. 👏 ✨
I really like the re-working of this with the slightly different instrumentation. Great performance!
If one weren't watching the video and only listening, one would think this is from way back when. Still in fine, fine voice. This, folks, is talent.
Peter for president ❤
Great vocals. Never burned out his chords, amazing!
He uses them continuously making music constantly.
They won't seize up
He can STILL belt it out. WOW.
This is incredible
Wish I could have seen this live. Many thanks!
My, oh my!! ❤
Amazing man, amszing singer!
To tell the truth I am realy jealous of that crawd to be able to see this live!!
Always was and remains the epitome of musicality!
