Tony Stark providing Ben and MJ new Spidey-outfits at the end reeks of the Abrams' having just watched Spidey in the MCU and thinking "Yeah, Tony Stark is the one that provides all the Spidey-outfits!"
Imagine working your whole life, honing your craft, spending countless sleepless nights writing till sunrise, facing rejection after slammed door after shredded draft.... just to have Henry step over you to phone it in like this. It's Uncle-Ben-levels of pathos.
Yep...I've been making comics and trying to get them out there for the past couple years (mostly just by posting on my own website and Instagram). While my work (or schedule-keeping) is nowhere near that of a seasoned professional, it was still a bit of a discouraging slap in the face when this whole thing was announced last year. But that's how the entertainment industry is. Just another reason to find satisfaction in independence, even if it gives you a smaller reach, I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@nuao88 www.StarryKnightStudios.com! I still haven't totally sorted out a workable schedule for myself yet, so things are released erratically, but at least it's there!
Sasha, sasha sasha. look down. Not within yourself, to your shirt. "I'll eat your face" needed to be read like Nicholas Cage saying, I want to take his face...OFF!.
Like I said in the last part, I only kept up watching these, because I had no desire to follow it myself. From hype and controversy, to total public erasure, what a journey... Could it get better, unless JJ and Henry threaten us ny making more. As of now, this falls under the worst future Spider-Kid stories, and you have a extre high bar to reach to improve.
So now that it’s over and the number 4 had no significance in the story, we all agree that the countdown was an intentional bait to Raimi fans rights? Who starts a countdown at 4?!
Did I make a prediction? Let's see, what was my prediction? "This comic exists to remind me that Mayday Parker is awesome." I stand by this prediction.
@@Pantherblack supposedly she was on some sort of contract that meant she couldn't work on other books until this finished. I have no idea if this is true but crazy if it is
@@Scandal262 yeah i really liked her art in the book. if this story was good, the panel where peter was lying on the ground bloody with half his mask gone would have become iconic
Your videos are my only exposure to this series’ run… and I’m grateful for it. There are interesting ideas and elements, but they never form a whole. It’s like expecting a grade school kid with one good art project to recreate the Sistine Chapel ceiling and a sequel to Hamlet in the same week. It’s painful to see this kid placed so wholly into the spotlight with Marvel’s flagship character. They should have let him onto a low-rated series to get some experience. They should’ve let him try his hand at a Power Pack (or someone at that tier) mini series first. Somebody should’ve suggest the Roman army thing of making a plan and only revising it after everyone gets drunk so they actually speak their minds
I feel really bad for someone whose first exposure to Spidey comics was this series. They say every comic is someone's first comic, and if *this* was someone idea as to what a good Spider-Man comic is supposed to be, they'll probably never buy another Spidey comic (or any comic) ever again.
This story underscores something that I keep seeing over & over - what to do with Peter Parker. He seems almost like a Aunt May character in stories these days. I get the same vide from Pete as I do with Dick Grayson aka Nightwing. Cool character - but the backstories date them thus rendering their characters (however interesting) redundant. The more multiverse, alternate stories, and the like get put out in the market the more characters like Pete will seem lost. I'm always up for good stories - but I can't care for the characters if I know a giant reset button will just undo the results.
The finale to this series saved it from being a total disaster. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending. I wish we could see the designs / art for MJ and Ben in the costumes.
I pulled the first issue when it came out, mainly for Sara Pichelli and a mild curiosity , read it in the store and promptly put it back on the shelf. Then I saw you made a video about it and figured, oh I guess I'll see what happens in a far more amusing way than having to read it myself. 🤷♂️
So much "amazing" salt in this video I love it, and I must uses the phrase, "He gets all death" more. Thanks for awesome video and I do hope four sequel just so there can be more reviews of it like this.
There was some pretty dope art work but i feel like i got enough info off you to politely pass on this series. Great video and thorough explanation. Awesome sauce 😎
Did no-one else notice that MJ and Ben's suits both had Miles' Spider logo on the front?? It's not a huge deal imo, but it's a bit strange and an interesting choice.
I feel like there was a lot of father/son projecting in this. I think the son wrote it up, then the father took over. After he did, this is what we received. Thank you for another video! I've been patiently waiting this one.
Paid for the first few issues (one good thing is that comics are relatively cheap compared to movie tickets) but it was poor - glad to learn how it ended! Thank you! Glad I save the money!
Saying this feels like it was written by committee is interesting to me since that’s a common criticism for Abrams Star Wars movies as if he’s a one man committee. Though he did write it with his son so not really one man in this case.
Picked up most of those issues in $1 bins. Yeah, nothing special, it all felt half-cooked. Getting Spider-Ben and Spider-MJ in an inevitable future Spider-verse story could be fun though, or even a team of Peter’s kids from the multiverse
The thing about tropes is that any element of fiction is a trope (i.e. having a protagonist), so they're kind of unavoidable. They only become a problem when they're used lazily or are so overused that they become cliches.
I read this. It should have been a commissioned graphic novel, not a mini-series. Obviously, someone like J.J. Abrams would have other things demanding his attention. This would have allowed Henry Abrams to learn a bit more, and, the story would have had better pacing. The art was enjoyable, but, parts of the last issue seemed different. Not better, nor, worse, just different, than the other issues. Because of this mini-series, and, a few others, I have decided to wait for trade-paperbacks, for all alternate universe limited series.
*Sasha: **_"...success of the Abrams name..."_* I do not know anything about _Henry Abrams._ That said, IMO as far as _Jar-Jar_ is concerned that statement is an oxymoron.
I've already seen this covered on Comic Pop but I still really enjoyed hearing your take on this mini. I always enjoy your analysis on this books and the context around them
Now if Lois Lane had married Cadaverous, then it'd be a classic.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
JJ Abrams ending a story in a way that feels more like set-up than payoff? Now, where have I seen that before? 🤔🤔🤔
Try the blue stuff.
It’s delicious.
Don’t believe me?
Ask the dishes.
Somehow, MJ is still alive!!!
Another magic blood thing I swear to God he tried this with Into Darkness!
lmao where they accidentally cured death and then just never spoke of it again
This book is a great example of why you don't just give someone a big project with zero experience because of their parents name.
Sasha: I hope you remembeed your theories.
Me: The only thing I remembered is the hot dog fingers.
Tony Stark providing Ben and MJ new Spidey-outfits at the end reeks of the Abrams' having just watched Spidey in the MCU and thinking "Yeah, Tony Stark is the one that provides all the Spidey-outfits!"

Honestly JJ’s comic makes no sense at all
just like everything else he does
Star Wars Fans: first time?
You brave woman, reading a JJ Abrams work.
Lame comic. No one even marries Lois Lane!
Once again this story proves that Mayday Parker is still the best Spider kid. This story and characters are very forgettable.
Her baby brother is cute too though.

FTR, I appreciate your attempts at voices for the characters. Especially your Batman. :)
Thanks for doing this -- now I won't have to ever read the series. But I think I'll check out your Mayday Parker piece next.
All this comic taught me was Peter is either the greatest parent ever or a deadbeat with nothing in between.
This is where I get my weekly random and crazy comic facts
P.s love the shirt
This is literally The Rise of Skywalker but Spider-Man.
The Rise of Parker.
The Rise of... Spider.
idk, man

Don't worry, one of my first comics was a trade of Peter Milligan's X-Men Bizarre Love Triangle
Of course Peter named his son Ben
I skipped the middle episodes so maybe I've missed out, but the minions look like Xenomorphs?
You know what they say, The blue stuff is delish... That how you know it’s good.
Literally a, "Well that was a thing" kind of situation.
Yeah it definitely...happened.

One of the main reasons I got into Manga. The stories have consequences.
Aren't "Not going anywhere" and rushed endings an Abrams trope too?
Can you do a Kate Bishop video next? 👀 also I really love your videos 💓

Yup, my prediction was right. Wasn’t hard to guess, but still.
The artwork is good - But ultimately, I found this very underwhelming - a shame really...Great review of the comic! You have a new subscriber :)
