Today, we’re going to talk about the most powerful adaptogen in the world: ashwagandha.
An adaptogen is something that helps you cope with stress and helps your body adjust to its environment.
Ashwagandha has a lot of benefits, but we’re going to focus on how it can help you adapt to stress. Ashwagandha has helped many people feel calmer and like they can cope with stress easier.
Ashwagandha helps control the HPA axis, which is the communication between your hypothalamus, pituitary, and adrenals. These hormonal communications help the body adapt to a stress response.
Once the communication is complete, the hormone is supposed to lower back down, but with chronic stress, cortisol never goes back down and is chronically elevated. Ashwagandha can help reduce these hormones.
Cortisol isn’t a bad thing. It doesn’t cause stress-it’s adapting your body to a stress state. But, it’s not healthy to have your body in a state of chronic stress and chronically elevated cortisol.
    Potential benefits of ashwagandha:
    • It helps lower cortisol in the AM
    • It helps lower DHEA (a precursor to cortisol) in the AM
    • It helps raise testosterone (stress lowers testosterone)
    • It helps increase endurance
    • It helps increase strength (stress may cause weakness)
    • It has shown significant improvements in emotions

I also have issues where my body attacks itself (immune system attacks my nerves) when I experience high levels of stress for long periods. So ashwagandha is the best thing ever. Helps me get to sleep and quiets my brain. My dad was diagnosed with cancer recently and we almost got kicked out of our house and my brain and body is chilling with this . We don't find homeostatis word in ayurvedic literature because it's not in English and does not have Greek origin. But ayurveda clearly mentions its benefits and effects on human body. Only because of our collective amnesia we are leaving such knowledge and finding such repackaged information as great. Definitely we need more new research but the west has yet to properly acknowledge the traditional knowledge which forms the basis for such research. It's a disservice to the Indian heritage.

@Priya Try Kottakkal brand. We have been taking it for 3 generations. Of course there are unscrupulous vendors out there mixing it with garbage and hence we cannot generalize Chyavanaprash is toxic. This is another propaganda by the so called WESTERN genius. Though the CDC and FDA were instituted with good intentions, it has become lobbying firms and hence I would read thru the details of their every dictum!. BTW, the same WESTERN geniuses convinced that mRNA vaccine by the WESTERN companies are 100% safe but look what happened. Still the hangover of British rulers exists with lots of Indians.
If one can read or watch tons of Dr Berg's inputs, vast majority (not saying all are) are based on "Food as medicine" concept which is commonsense (and also mentioned in Vedic literature.) Good luck.

Second being, his explanations or inferences or analysis would be a lot more lucid, clear and crisp in comparison to Dr. Berg's because of the above reason. Thirdly, Ayurveda holds the elixir to transform a life from dead to spirited which as an Indian he should strive to bring forth to masses. Since people have been sharing their own experiences with it, I'll give mine. I took it for anxiety as well as trying to reduce cortisol and indirectly raise testosterone.
I learned not to take it unless I'm feeling highly anxious or stressed because if I took it on just a regular calm day I would start to feel emotionally numb.
It also increased aggression (Not to an unsafe degree) and helped me to be more assertive.
It also increased libido a bit too much for my liking.
So, I'd recommend taking it if you struggle with anxiety, stress, low libido, etc but also keeping in mind side effects and probably restrain from taking it too often and save it for days when you really need the boosts.

I would like to add that Dr Berg much like most westerners didn't give credit to Ayurveda or India. Westerners are very good at rebranding things from India and taking away our credit. Unfortunately we Indians do not give importance to things until we get their approval.

I thankfully discovered Ashwagandha about 10 years ago when I was given some samples. I use it at bedtime on the nights I can't sleep and menopause symptoms. It's my (non medical) opinion to use it PRN rather than daily so as not to build tolerance. I've noticed that I need to increase the dosage if I take it daily.

Dr. Berg, I'm sure you realize from all your positive comments how your knowledge, calm relaxing voice and natural ability to teach have changed lives. Thank you so very much for taking the time to create these videos. Just bought the ingredients to start making the cauliflower pizza crust I watched in an earlier video of yours.

Thank you Dr. Berg. So would you take aswagandha before exercise or would it cause relaxation that would be counterproductive? Awesome how much would you advise him to take who’s under tremendous emotional stress?
I didn’t think that whether is on the bottle recommendations may vary

I find this helped me years ago as well. But over time I have realized how much of my levels of stress have so much to do with how my brain is hardwired. Healthy eating is key and supplementation for a boost but it also has to go hand in hand with how you process the world and how you allow yourself to think. There is so much out there to process - more than ever before and it’s no wonder we all have such health issues with what we consume and what we mentally process

I really thank you for taking the time to give us a full explanation of the benefits what Ashwagandha can do for us. A lot of doctors won't do that, they just point you to the pharmaceuticals. I can see you come from a caring family and with that comes abundance of joy and happyness.

I have an arrhythmia that pops up once in a while and I am sure it is due to stress from moving multiple times over the past few years due to work and education. To help me sleep once in a while, I have tried pot but although I sleep well with that after a while, it exacerbates my arrhythmia, I hardly ever use it because thinking about it causes me stress. Lol. Anyway, I received my ashwaganda the other day and tried just ONE caplet last night. OMG. ZERO PALPITATIONS and VERY deep sleep, not even waking in the wee hours as usual. I think I have FINALLY found the answer to stress, lack of sleep, AND my cortisol/weightloss issues! Thank you, Dr. Berg!!!

Ashwaganda isn't for everyone, BE CAREFUL. In my case it was too powerful, almost numbed me completely. I felt like I had 90% reduction in emotions, happy, sad, angry, motivation, literally anything was numbed down significantly. It was scary and I didn't expect such a result. Almost like antidepressants.

i don't know if anyone else has ecperienced this but i started taking ashwaganda for anxiety and it worked. My anxiety was erased and i also become more eager to socialize. The strange thing is that i stopped taking it about a year ago and the anxiety and social anxiety has still not come back, as if it trained my brain, effectively curing me of anxiety. Of course there are too many variables to say that it fixed me for sure but that's what it seems like
