Sam, the gt4rs is my dream car that needs some upgrades and a good tune to make it into my dream car and I'd never drive any other car after that, awesome content as always.
Do you remember, the gearbox in the new GT4? If you don't, let me remind you. The gearing for that car was really bad. You could not enjoy the manual transmission in it at all.
@@AyushK7318 I've been looking at 981's for a while (similar manual gearbox) and talked to many owners and they said that even though the gearbox is a flaw of the car it doesn't hinder the car completely as it is still amazing. Great video Sam. Having a budget to buy a car can be tough. I've spent about £8000 on my car and it has 305bhp, weighs 1.3t and is amazing, yet it's uncomfortable to drive long distances, you need to know the car to drive it and it's a never ending project. Hi Sam Hi i’ve got a BMW M2 competition manual with the big break kit and the factory TopSpeed to 178 for track use. Haven’t done the air intake yet or the exhaust. This is my second M2 my dealer did offer me a CS but I couldn’t see the £25,000 more in the car preps I was wrong.? But on the bright side I do have a GR Yaris coming in March. Which the £25,000 goes along way towards the GR.
There are very few YTers I actually like these days, something about the whole 'influencer' world really grates on me. However, your content is really enjoyable and you remind me of a lot of the lads from my boarding school. I'm rambling now, loving the content Mr STG and here's to plenty more videos to come :P
Doh! I forgot to say. I've driven this M2 Comp at a film shoot for another YT channel and it felt a bit, well, meh and it's also very quiet for an M car. It was interesting to hear your thoughts on the M2 CS.
Good review Sam. Thought ECOTY was all over the place for 2020! Am sure an M2 Comp with coil-overs would do the trick (it should be offered with DCC in the first place for that money) . If you didn't need four seats however, I'd save £10k and have the normally aspirated Cayman GTS please!
I was saving for a Python Green Cayman GTS 4.0 but jumped on the M2 CS with manual transmission because it seemed like it will be more fun on public streets without the tall gearing issue that the Cayman has. With the Cayman you really want to rev out the normally aspirated engine, and then in most places you are already breaking the law at the top of 2nd gear. The Cayman certainly has a better exhaust note...it's a tough call but I'm really happy with my purchase and it doesn't seem like you can really go wrong either way.
Great content Sam! A "well rounded" video. The sim is cool, shots of you running down the stairs is somehow weirdly entertaining. You are correct, driving on ice is pretty normal were I live. (Michigan) Good Job mate!
Great vid, love your work. Judging from the "slidy" outside shots, I guess you did not entirely turn off TC? Just MDM TC. Turning it off completely (hold down DSC button for 5 sec), you would have kept spinning the rear wheels through 2nd and 3rd for sure!
It's an epic looking thing, but I think I'd get a low mileage 2nd hand M2 Comp and mod it ever so slightly with a tune, brakes and maybe suspension upgrade. Job done and lots of change for your £75 k.
GT Porsche in the U.K. worth their money because of their appreciation instead of depreciation. It has to do with the limited supply something that is not observed in other countries. But a well specced GT4 is a bit more expensive than the 75k advertised.
Would never buy one compared to a GT4. But I would also never trade a 981 GT4 for the 718. The Cayman is a much more focused and engaging car to drive. The M2 steering is completely absent off feel compared to the GT4 and the breaks are much weaker. The M2 is also much heavier. The only reason to buy the M2 was 1) the M2C offered a much cheaper package and 2) you need to seat more than 2 people. The CS is utterly overpriced for what it is.
Thats not what all the best reviewers say. Car of the year. So fun to drive. Worth the premium it is rising in price. I can sell it for 30k more now but wont
@@GreatMotors And then there is Chris Harris who even bought the car himself. Both cars are amazing but different. I'd love to own the Gt4 too. You think all reviewers got together and said lets say this car is amazing when its really not? Many top reviewers have purchased one after driving it. Its that good.
@@thisisrob8750 Chris Harris is my favorite motor journalist. You can see in his video about the CS that it was a wym, in the sense that the car is extremely more expensive than a comp, and it's not that far ahead. I am not saying it's not a nice car, I am just saying it costs too much for what it is. If you can afford it by all means get it. I would never trade my 981 for one.
Great vid as always! I am considering the GT 4.0, however the price difference to the GT4 is not that big. Or all things are relative but considering how much both cost the difference is not that big... Go for the Heuskenveld Sprint pedals instead of the Fanatec csl :)
Tbh, I think I'd still get the GT4. Love the car, but at that price I'm not sure it's really that worth it anymore. The guys from Team Schirmer (which I'm sure you know, but anyways they're the guys that build sick track weapons for the ring) have said it's not worth getting the CS over the Competition, might as well just get the Comp and modify it, and tbh knowing how well they make their cars I trust them lol
I do think you're right and that the CS is probably more thrilling (not to mention more usable) than the GT4, however I'm betting that the cs will drop value like a rock even if they are limited production. The last gen GT4 has held solid at 85-90k USD for years from its MSRP 100-115k so I can't imagine the new 718 GT4 ever dropping below that. So basically 90k for a bmw (plus whatever dealer premiums) that will likely heavily depreciate like most used M cars or a Porsche GT product that has already lost any money it would have. Any one else have any thoughts on this? Cheers! *This is all speculation based on personal opinion so take with a grain of salt
Only worth it if you track cars often, you like the exclusivity factor (limited production, although no specific number of production units mentioned) you like the extra carbon exterior and interior bits, the seats, gold wheels, additional bumpers, etc. I’m sure you can retrofit an M2 Comp with the carbon bits, likeJoe Achellies has done, and the carbon. So personally
Without having driven either, I'd easily have a Lotus Exige 410 (out of any car in that price range): -No driver aids -A beautiful manual -Lovely exhaust note -Faster -Better looking
Never liked the design on the M2. Or the Cayman for that matter. I´d rather get a Giulia QV than those. That looks so much cooler. And then a million other cars I´d rather get. But a nice video though. Exited to see what you do to the studio though. Keep up the good work.
Timely video, Sam. I'm not quite "clicking" with my daily driver M2 Comp--it feels a bit unsettled and dodgy on uneven pavement. I've been wondering if the M2 CS was better in this regard...
Great video, thumb up...but I cannot believe it can be above the gt4/spider!! No way for me. But on the other hand it’s a different car, so if someone can see that difference can decide to go with CS
Sam your Videos are beautifully put together and filmed. I kind of feel like the cs is just marketing to sell a few units. Shame really, could have been so special
The M2 CS is the best car BMW make but it's impossible to justify an extra £25k for this over a M2 Comp. You can take the Comp to Litchfield and still have money left
After you pick up the Comp from Litchfield, it'll still be a regular Comp that will depreciate even more rapidly since it's been modded compared to the limited CS. So in the end, you'll have lost more money on the Comp than CS owners. A modded Comp is not a better value.
@@84Lv10 I get what you're saying but depreciation won't be that bad. 2nd hand Comp under 10k miles is ~£40k so you've avoided new car depreciation. Most mods can easily be undone unless you go and cut your exhaust or something extreme. M2 CS is over £80k. Might not depreciate at all but still tough to justify £30k price difference. If money isn't important then definitely get the CS but if it is then a Comp with £30k to play with is better value package IMO.
The M2 CS isn't better, it's an M Performance marketing special - same weight as Competition, same engine, same torque. If it were more different or a CSL, ok. Look at the F80 M3/M4 CS to see what a flop they were also.
Get off your armchair and go drive one. I owned an M2 OG and wanted to move to something else, because it was ultimately lacking feel and control on the limit. I tested a Comp but it was more or less the same, maybe 10% better. But then I drove a CS. Finally a steering and chassis that is within 90% of a Type R, with the added benefits of RWD and more power. Much more communicative and capable than the other M2s. It’s much more enjoyable to drive quickly, and at the same time I’m more relaxed. Can you make an M2 Comp faster on track? Easily. Will I keep the CS forever? Probably not. But this car offers one of the best driving experiences BMW has offered in a while.
I’m a BMW fan, but I don’t personally think this is as ‘special’ as a GT4, maybe on a par with a GTS. Can’t see the £25k additional premium would be money well spent over an M2 Comp either. Enjoyed the video though. 👍🏻
Would rather have a GT4 if I'm having a 2-3 car garage, but if only car or I have the ability to keep this long term, definitely would be this. Shorter gears than the GT 718s as well
Hey Sam older BTG episodes are all over my feed! You tube must be loving the show right now.....Have Mclaren agreed to give you their new car for a few months 😉
Down under the M2 CS is $140k manual a Porsche Cayman GT4 is $207k manual plus on roads and options. Quite a gap in price. Would you shop one against the other here?. One journo here, managed to put a BMW 1m on its roof. Not sure if it was slippery that day. Cheers.
GT4 and swap the final drive to make the ratios shorter... This is an epic car though, finally som proper M drivers cars that can compete with supercars for the best driving experience!
Sam be carefull with that wheel. It can hurt people specially novice users. Keep it low torque. I wouldn’t get a GT4 or CS just because you can have a new or almost new R8 V10 Plus at the same price. It’s next level compared this 2 lovely cars.
Great content as usual, I’m always amazed by your production quality. Watching the new American Top Gear with Jethro, I think you would’ve been a much better host with your personality and humor. Jethro is an amazing driver but always comes off as a bit staid and dry on camera.
Good looking simulator corner. Gold wheels make such a difference on a black car. I wonder if this will be the last BMW that enthusiasts love or if we will come around to the ungainly styling of the newest products and the entirely bizarre marketing coming out of BMW? Let's hope those guys get their act together soon. Thank you.

And then a million other cars I´d rather get.
But a nice video though.
Exited to see what you do to the studio though.
Keep up the good work.
Drive a manual M2 Competition.
It’s an amazing car
Love the midweek video drop
Timely video, Sam. I'm not quite "clicking" with my daily driver M2 Comp--it feels a bit unsettled and dodgy on uneven pavement. I've been wondering if the M2 CS was better in this regard...
Great video, thumb up...but I cannot believe it can be above the gt4/spider!! No way for me. But on the other hand it’s a different car, so if someone can see that difference can decide to go with CS
Best editing on Car youtube
Sam your Videos are beautifully put together and filmed. I kind of feel like the cs is just marketing to sell a few units. Shame really, could have been so special
Really appreciate that!
Great video as always Sam. Saw what you did with the thumbnail. 😂
Yeeeeesss midweek BMW content
If you where to buy one would you spec DCT or manual? Great video as always keep it up. 💯
For something this track focused, DCT. Manual I’ll save it for the competition.
Chris Harris did it right though, bought and m2 comp, got the cs gold wheels and..... litchfield suspension 👀
Great video, love the gold wheels as well!
This music is - how you brits say - bang on
Love the video Sam! Great car
Chris Harrison daily’s a bmw cs that answer your question 👍🏼👍🏼
Great stuff Sam.
Glad you enjoyed it
I’m a BMW fan, but I don’t personally think this is as ‘special’ as a GT4, maybe on a par with a GTS. Can’t see the £25k additional premium would be money well spent over an M2 Comp either. Enjoyed the video though. 👍🏻
Great video. Also, happy 65th birthday! 😂🤣👴👴👴
I think that M2 CS has alot of userability practical plus that engine is sublime have to have the manual
Awesome to hear! Haha, still waiting for McLaren's reply
Love it, can you get it back for a longer drive in the summer please Sam?
With 75 grand you could have a 2016 m240i as a daily and a 2017 Exige Sport 380 as a track car.
Love the 70’s elevator background tunes Sam 😃
Down under the M2 CS is $140k manual a Porsche Cayman GT4 is $207k manual plus on roads and options. Quite a gap in price. Would you shop one against the other here?. One journo here, managed to put a BMW 1m on its roof. Not sure if it was slippery that day. Cheers.
Be that one youtuber thats original and by a Alpina that you can actually use to its full potential
The fact the the closest rival is a Cayman speaks volumes for the M2 variants
GT4 and swap the final drive to make the ratios shorter... This is an epic car though, finally som proper M drivers cars that can compete with supercars for the best driving experience!
those wheels!!! Love the gold/bronze wheels
The wheels are stunning
Thank you.
I agree styling seems to be going in an 'odd' direction but lets wait and see how they all perform
