I am thinking the exact same thing, In general these kinds of cars are being made less even by bmw in the future.They will always make luxury sport cars probably but the m2 is the basically the new m3 in a lot of ways

Great reviews, always enjoy them. I recently purchased a CS. With the DCT. I don’t regret it at all. The car is amazing. I’m sure there will be some higher resale prices with the manual, but I’ll be smiling all day, every day driving the one I got. Best car I’ve owned. Doubt I’ll ever sell it.
BMW is still offering manuals, but the DCT has been discontinued. I think in the future when people are stuck with regular autos, the DCT will also be appealing.
I really appreciate how accurate and thorough you are. Details on roof construction and oil system differences are missed by most all reviewers. Nicely done!
My favorite car for the longest time was the Laguna Seca Blue E46 M3. This M2cs manual is an honest to God second chance at having the best production car ever made in my opinion. An easy buy if it weren't so cost prohibitive. There's probably no chance I could ever own one of these until I retire at 41...10 years to go. BMW made my halo car, and I'm a Cadillac guy!
I love this car. I can not wait to get it out of storage. I bought it back in January and have not driven due to the weather. My car is black with the gold wheels. I am considering wrapping it matte black.
I’ve been watching reviews of this car for months and finally was lucky to get my hands on the exact same one. I’m quite a petrol head myself but haven’t had so much fun driving a manual gearbox in a very very long time!! A car that probably comes close in the fun department is the GT3RS but that’s another story.. I don’t think many of these will be on sale because it’s just so different from the usual out there.. definitely will stay in the garage for a long long time.. great review btw and let’s hope your prediction comes true..
I think you are one of the few people who has driving both the auto and manual. Great review. For me, I think for a pure driving experience, I would have this over the Cayman 718. The manual in that car is just not quite as good. It's a shame this thing is so limited, I really think BMW would make a killing off it if production was increased.

The CS is weighed in at 1429kg with half tank of fuel. Manual trans, carbon brakes and electric seats. So its actually much lighter :-) Suspension is not set up the same way as Competition. It has more camber, and adjustable suspension. Makes a ton of a difference. It also has extra coolers like the M3/4 CS over stock Comp. Just sayin, and yes I own one. :-)

You really should drive a Manual SS1LE and report back. I think the Alpha chassis with the 1LE calibration will leave you questioning why bother buying a BMW M car post 2013.
I did the M drivers school last September in SC and we drove (M2, M4 & M8 Comps all with DCT.s) I had much more enjoyable drives in the M2 Comps. I have a 2020 M5 Comp. Previous vehicles included: 1986 944, 2006 997.1, 2008 M3, and 2012 991.1 all in manual. I thought the Standard M2 Comp. was a fine car and don’t think I would opt for the CS ... if I could find one.
I think the premium for the manual 430 is due to the F1 gearbox being so bad, not just because they don't make them anymore. Loved the video, I'd love an M2 comp

I just watched a video on the new M4...WOW is that car ugly with the beaver teef...This, however, is a gorgeous vehicle....looks, tranny, proportions, sound....this is the only BMW that subscribes to “The Ultimate Driving Machine” motto...As for me buying it, I cannot afford it. BUT, when you buy one, I’d be more than happy to pay you a few bucks to do a ride-along and reminisce about the old days in NY...or we could just cruise the Miracle Mile!!!
People always forget that surfaces you touch in a car are meant to be cleaned. I clean my alcantara wheel in my Porsche once every couple months and it looks brand new.
@@MrSchn3ll I agree. However, if you spend 10 plus hours a week behind the wheel of two cars one with good leather one with Alcantara. I promise that shelf life the leather steering wheel will far exceed that of the Alcantara wheel.
Packaging and DOT. Supra was never designed to fit the manual transmission in the tunnel of the car, they sacrificed it to keep the car smaller. And DOT because each transmission type has to be crash tested, this costs millions to do each time.

I'm not saying they are bad but like all sportscars, they are subjected to increased wear and tear and that's just how it is. Fact of the matter is that you are much safer with a brand new BMW vs any used Porsche. Even if the reliability is worse (which is highly debatable), the BMW is covered by a 5 year warranty and the used Porsche runs out soon if he even still has one.
I know BMW has made some BIG mistakes lately (did someone say BIG grill?) but this car seems really to be a solid offering. Personally, the seats are uncomfortable, the steering wheel is too thick, and a small storage compartment in the new center console would have been nice. Those are my top three things I'd done differently.
It’s a shame that BMW only offers the 2 in turbo charged form. I get it, if the made a lower power NA base model it would probably take too many enthusiasts away from the M models. That wouldn’t really be a problem imo. If people could get a new 2 series with an i6/manual/RWD I’m pretty sure it would have been one of the best selling coupes of the last 20 years. There’s a huge void in the automotive world right now, it sits right between the $30k entry sports cars like the Miata’s, Toybaru’s and the $80k M’s, Cayman’s etc. All I want is a lightish weight, small displacement, manual sports car that’s a little nicer and more grown up then the entry level.
This is a really tough pill to swallow at this price. I paid $84k for my 991.2 Carrera T with 5k miles. I guess it's for those who can pretend that Porsche doesn't exist...

You should be and then see what else - also "collectible "- is available at 92K. Truth, as a former owner of a few (5) BMWS - 318, 325, X5 (2011), and an M5 (2014), the "modern" BMW I've test driven has gone to the dogs. Crappy transmissions, slushy handling, imprecise brakes that overheat easily. Remember how the old BMW's felt? That's gone. Replaced with a $92k mini track car with alcantara? That's the best BMW can do? I weep that I sold my older Bimmers.

What about the CROOKED SEATS?! Google it. BMW cut safety corners with the 2 series. Rather than proper engineering, they skewed the seats outward to meet side impact requirements. Your legs are not parallel with the steering column! Ridiculous. I cut my order. It’s one of those things that once you notice, you can’t forget. Look at your legs when you’re driving it. Better put your chiropractor on speed dial!

No surprise the engine & MT is the same set up as F80, all of sudden this M2CS became sensation and superb.

The new M2 has been spotted a few times looks just as small or smaller and doesn’t seem to be heavier. But who knows.
Most of the remaining ones on autotrader are already spoken for. It’s not easy to get one in manual.

The big problem with the Porsche is the ridiculous transmission- you have a beautiful 4L NA engine that you can’t fully use - on track and off.

That's way more than a good cayman, you can get a used GT4 for that - or a brand new, lightly optioned GTS 4.0 cayman - that weighs 500lbs. less too.

also, what's the point in comparing a used Porsche vs a new BMW. apples with apples please. The same BMW used is a lot cheaper.
I have no doubt this is an amazing car. But 40-50% more than an M2 comp? No way it's worth that.
My M2 CS has an MSO/MCO (a legal document: the Car's "Birth Certificate") generated by BMW at time of assembly that states it has a 405 HP engine.
Believe it or not, the manual tested faster than the dct to 60. Check out the car and driver review.
