That special style is such an important feature for getting new players in. I literally played zero fighting games until my friend showed me Tekken 8 and turned on special style because I was never a fan of learning all of the fighting game inputs. Now, I like the game so much I'm practicing combos I labbed.

It’s a strategy they have bc they want your money. You can’t take over your character when you’re in a replay vs a dlc character. Unless you have bought it already. Really scummy. I just one n done vs dlc. Problem solved.
17:55 TBH the only thing that prevents me from saying that T8 has the best training mode is that they don’t let you slow down the game speed. Being able to do that in street fighter 6 really helped me with developing the initial feeling/ muscle memory of the combo trial which then allows me to be more consistent in normal speed. I’m will be happy if they only add a 50% game speed option but if they want to go the extra mile they can add additional game speed such as 25% and 75% (or a slider) and or an option to slow down the game when you get a launch punish
I just want to point out that this video was released 10 hours ago, and it already has 50,000 views. As a fellow long time Tekken player, I am very proud of PhiDX and what he has done on this channel for the Tekken community.
Online practice is honestly one of the biggest bonuses that’s coming out this next patch. I’ve been learning SF6 to play Terry and being able to sit in the lab with a friend and study situations and have hands on training and drilling has made learning the game significantly easier and I’m so glad to see it in Tekken. It would be nice to have a way to access them in custom rooms like in SF6 so that you can sit in a room with a coach, move to the training room if they wanted to focus on something, and then go back to the main fight rooms, but this is a fantastic addition.
Me too, though learning Reina has been a grind but when you get the gameplan down I have alot fun as I'm sure every first timer with whatever character they main.
I agree with you Phi on the idea for a top rank to be added. I know that not a lot of people take the game Brawlhalla seriously in the FGC, but a few years ago, they added a system that I think is really great for the community. For years in Brawlhalla, the top rank was Diamond. They added a rank called "Valhallan" which, in order to obtain, players have to have at least 100 wins in the current ranked season, grind to diamond if they're not already placed there, and then they attain a rating based on their matches that puts them higher or lower on the ranked ladder. Only 150 players per region can be a Valhallan, so if you get the rank and then stop playing, other players climbing can overtake you and demote you to diamond, so it basically helps motivate you to keep grinding for rating so that you stay in the top 150 in your region. That'd be great for Tekken imo. And for a game as big as Tekken, I think top 250, maybe even top 500 would be an awesome feat to really show someone's skill, but obviously, they could tweak those numbers, maybe even per region, because I know that some regions have a lot more players than others.
I hope "THEY'RE FIXING EVERYTHING!!!"... Because right now it seems like they're missing the time to keep the player base together. They have to address the concerns asap! Not tomorrow, not next year. ASAP. Balance is KEY in a fighting game! The perfect balance is difficult to accomplish, but doing nothing is the wrong way - same goes for the plugging bs
The practice mode changes and the ability to go to your replay after a match is huge. I love the changes. I like how you approach the game from both a software developer's perspective and a seasoned gamer's perspective.
Not gonna lie, I’m pretty happy with the changes. My favorite is that you can go directly to the Replays after a fight. And Namco promised the ranked matchmaking will be better. They even acknowledging the fact that the ranking system needed some tweaking makes me have more faith in them. And putting your own character on the main menu is sick. Plus all the great changes in the practice mode. Now if they only could nerf Dragunov I’ll be forever greatful. Good job, Namco! 👍
T8 was the first FG that I not only got in on directly at launch but also followed the development of. It's been quite a ride so far and I'm actually excited to see where things go next.
Bro perfect synopsis. As an old head who only cares about the gameplay adjustments (and who has migrated back to SF6), it was fantastic to learn about the QoL buffs to practice mode without having to suffer through the actual dev chat. I like the idea that the devs are collabing BTS and potentially sharing great tech with each other. For example, T8's replay take-over mode is groundbreaking and one of the biggest buffs to learning of all time. But the granularity and convenience of SF practice mode like action after damage taken/block/wakeup; hold direction+reset for positional change, are amazing themselves and add immense value as a whole.
@@randothecrambo7842 Its very trivial to check if someone closed the game instead of it crashing. But if you're talking about detecting cheating you're right.
one of Tekken 7's last quality updates were being able to chose Favourite fighter and skin with one button. I was suprised it wasn't implemented at the start of Tekken 8 since it was one of the last ones T7 did. ( if they could put it in t8, I'd appreciate it alot)
doing my part to see say video was awesome, well formulated, and super helpful for someone who only caught part of the TT. contextualized why each change was cool/a big deal. thank you mr streamer.
the fact that it took this long to change losing more points to someone HIGHER rank than you is absurd. I'm not gonna give props for fixing something that should never have been an issue in the first place.
I'm inclined to agree. I managed to get to Tekken King with Kazuya last july, and it was unbelievable. i was finally able to hang with (some) gold rank players. but then i just kept getting matched up with them even as i got demoted from there to bushin to kishin. i'm now at the border of raijin/fujin, and i haven't played the game online in like 2 months lol and the game still has casino mechanic shit going on lol
Very nice presentation and cut down, great and very fluid pace. I watched the whole thing and appreciate the timestamps, even if I didn’t used them. Ty for this! ❤
Really love that you're doing this. I can't stand the format of the official video, with the devs talking and then Murray mumbling his way through everything afterwards. Please keep doing these. I'm glad you split up Heihachi and QoL changes, I just wish the Heihachi vid came out first. I think new characters are generally more exciting.
So that's what it was. A couple weeks ago I got denied my Mighty Ruler Promotion because I had matchmaking set to +-3 and got matched with a Tekken God (10 ranks above if I recall correctly). Obviously I lost 2-0. Good to see that now it actually does what it advertises. The changes seem pretty cool.
That shit happened to me as well months ago. I was like Shinryu and I got matched with an Emperor lmao. Funnily enough I got 2 rounds, then I got destroyed for the other 3 AND the clown 1 and done'd me
@Walamonga1313 you showed you were a possible threat and he couldn't let you possibly win because his ego would be destroyed, sadly there's alot of people like that.
great video! perfect length and i appreciated getting to hear you get so excited about the changes, which made me even more excited about the changes :)
I'm glad to see improvement especially for ranked. I have found it extremely discouraging to fight a player with the same rank but the prowess is way higher. Fujin with 175K prowess is definitely not the same as a Fujin with 350K prowess.
Their attention to detail with the menu customisation is actually crazy. They change the colour and properties of the lighting to suit the character. Lili's lighting is soft and warm, having her front and centre without shadows and in perfect light and beijg gentle enough to avoid harsh edge lighting or eye glint. As a stark contrast, Devil Jin's lighting is a cold, sharp, white light that is more narrowly focused abd from a low angle, picking out his harsh edges and leaving him shrouded in shadow with sharp whites abd muted colours, minus his eye-catching red eyes which is the focal point instead of his whole face like Lili. Instead of using the lighting to merely show the characters, it seems like theyre encorporating lighting techniques most commonly used in cinema to showcase who they are visually. My only hope is that they dont just have all the women plastered in warm inviting light. Their features are homogenised enough as it is IMHO, with their universally smooth porcelain skin highly contrasting the more rugged and stylised appearance of most of the guys. Also, having seen this, my money is on that they will never allow custom fits on the menu screen. Lighting is a very nuanced subject and if its a little off it can ruin the intended feel. They'd need to add in full customisation including altering the lighting or choose between all the characters' lighting presets and even then it would prob look bad unless you know what youre doing.
I appreciate you separating out this and the heihachi content, please keep making these vids in bite sized forms. It's the perfect thing to listen to on my drive home from work. You do a great job at making the info easily digestible, keep it up!
I definitely appreciate how concise this patch highlight video is, but the timestamps too. It gives me a good tldr but also lets me pick and choose what points I want to listen to. :)
"Fixing everything" is kinda a commercial statement, as I personally don't see those additions as fixes, it is just new features mostly, except ranking changes. Tekken 8 mechanically is still a casino and cutscene show, the fact that they introduced quality of life changes, the product itself remains untouched. It is magnificent to watch that for cooling down community frustration, devs give people menus, glasses and huge fist and it works great: content creators consider this like a "fixing everything". Online practice is a decent thing for coaching, but instead of just creating a session for practice, you need to go to dojo, which, I suppose, in development spent much more effort to draw a cartoon PC. Feels like an optimised way of spending invested tekken coins from players
@@koltyrion4188 well, "casino" in tekken does not mean that your winning capability is randomised, it is about gameplay itself. For example, if you look at new characters, everybody is designed for stance rushdown, even seems that Heihachi is made that way. Their stance puts you into guessing situation and mistake leads you to huge damage. Their stances got "casino" starter pack, as follow-ups covers everything: homing, power crushes, lows, mids, unbreakable throws (why is it unbreakable btw, Steve Fox asks). All their stances are respectable: their options force you to duck. That is example of "casino" gamplay-wise
@@Gastonlagaf944 I Play stance heavy char and I assure you that most stances are respectable only if you respect them. There are options to mitigate pressure like armors/steps, punishing accordingly (No masher does it with only safe moves). Besides there are little to non chars with literal 50/50 like Kaz. In case of this tyle of characters you have to guess because any wrong read leads to big DMG. In most scenarios tho there are better and worse options for protection if you can't read someone. For example Lars - his lows are mid at best and they are a tool to make you duck to push with a powerfull mid so either way it's better to stand and block on read. Lidia? Just don't let her roll. This game Has bigger problems like Nina/Drag Jailing moves and constant plus frames or Xiayou still literally ducking under mids. Most characters can be interrupted with your fastest mid, jab or dickjab. Stop spreading missinformation about this being casino because it's just not true and comes from frustration. Previous titles had literal or similar "50/50" and nobody seems to remember it.
@@lamontsnipes5229 Absolutely, but previously in order to apply RPS you got to put effort in it: like obtain comfortable distance, force opponent to respect your options (which was continuous work during the whole set). Offence in that way feels thoughtful, and you put same amount of learning in defence and offence. Now stance openers lead character up close to you by themselves, like Jin's f4, or Reina's ff2 (if you didn't stepped it), Lidia ff2
I heard (if not mistaken) that the Story mode is mostly a timeline of events, that's why they show you the previous games and how the story fits in or develops.! Great content Phi! appreciate it
Thanks so much for all these videos! I used to play Tekken in arcades as a kid and am having fun getting back into it now. Watching your videos has really helped me to enjoy and understand the game, and I appreciate it! To answer your question, I liked the 30 minute video. An hour would have been ok, but I wouldn't have watched it all at once (in fact, I watched this one in two big chunks, too). Also, I'm probably more interested in the "playing the game" aspects of your content, personally, as opposed to merchandise and such, but I know there are folks who enjoy that stuff too.
Fighting games sre feeling so exciting right now, i just got into them properly last year with SF6 but Tekken was with me all thru my childhood, and T8 came at the perfect time. Now hearing that ladt point about how alot of fighting game devs are cross communicating to share ideas has me giddy, kicking my feet around like im thinking about my crush 😍
I’m abit sad to see that we probably ain’t getting unlimited rematch option on this update. There’s no good reason in causal modes we shouldn’t be able to replay against our opponents if we want to. I’m tired of fighting 2/3 matches and never seeing that player again 😢
No word about prowess, netcode, pc stability, autopunishing plugging. More installs and stances though. Some of the QoL is nice but they are not fixing anything as far as I am concerned, sorry.
Nice coverage, Phi. The character menu stuff is INSANE: I defo wanted to see Lars, and omg it looks so cool. The waifus look amazing as well. Online practice is HUGE for coaching, and better for the game health overall. And the expanded training options are even more useful, because it makes things easier for lab monsters / content creators like myself. Man, I'm so happy T8 continues to improve.
6:00 Correct me if I am wrong, but I think they technically had done something similar in Tekken 4 with Jin's just frame laser scraper. I you hold the last button of b,f,2,1,df+2 it was unblockable, however it was slow and could be side stepped. But if you released df+2 at the starting frame of the unblockable property, it became confirmed no matter what. Hopefully Heihachi's won't do something like that and only give an advantage.
Good to know man, that and some of the things i saw Harada saying about the deluxe version not including stages and stuff, the fight against predatory monetization and corporate stuff is hard, but it looks like there are people that care and is trying to make a good game and a good product.
what is it about movement or heat that you want fixed exactly, everyone moves the same (except Lili) and everyone's heat is just as strong as each other's
Yeah you might want to bring up specific moves or characters because now that we're months in its clear that HEAT isn't the problem. Things like Drag being able to get an unscaled unreactable rage art after landing a hard knock down is a problem. Characters being able to do more moves is not.
@@OldKingBone Heat is a major part of the problem. The entire game revolves around it to the detriment of other Tekken fundamentals. It's gimmicky as hell and does WAY too much for basically no downside. Heat is a garbage system mechanic.
@@nathan24-_-2 Don't extend hurtboxes when trying to punish after sidestepping because an opponent was throwing out a move that in no other Tekken game would you get hit by for punishing too early. And no, not everyone's Heat is created equally. Heat is already a bloated, gimmicky mechanic on its own. But then you have some characters like Nina doing half your health in chip damage (which also doesn't belong in Tekken) because of Heat.
One of my main frustrations with Tekken has been that the game felt like the decision-makers don't actually play the game. But these changes really look like somebody who knows what they're doing finally had a chance to tackle all the little annoyances. Good stuff.
Thanks for this vid! I respect making the Heihachi deep dive a separate video. I missed the Tekken talk this time around so this was a great overview of what was discussed. I’m excited to return to Tekken next week after a bit of a break. I’m only in purple rank, but the rank grind was becoming a slog. I try not to get obsessed with rank points, but losing so many on a loss definitely got to me at times. These upcoming changes have me ready to try and get to fujin.
Ranked changes are rly good. Ppl who have more than 3000 games in ranked with 1 character and are on emperor or tekken king and still dont know how frames work or what are punishes. They will have bad times losing to ppl who are on lower ranks but are good at the game.
absolutely. each dlc character has an element of 'pay to play' because in higher level play, everyone labs their anticpated opponent. everyone will be playing heihachi, just like lidia release week. serious competitive play demands that everyonehas access to what they need to compete on a level playing field.
I'm so slow that I kept looking at this comment wondering what Hwaorang had in common with King (the character) and then I finally realized what you actually meant. I guess I'm an autistic king too.
Thanks PhiDX for covering this update! I pray for the day fighting game developers finally make all ranked matches fixed best of 3. The current BO1 could be left for quick/casual play, completely removing the 'one and done' problem.
Stopped playing tekken 8 cause I'm invested in SF6 atm but seeing all this changes for tekken 8 is making me want to go back to learn hahaha. Hopefully tekken 8 gets a frame meter to see frames with a visual aid. That really helped a new fighting game player like myself for sf6. Having replay immediatlely after a match is sick. Hope sf6 gets this too
im so glad they made the rank system more better. i was about to demote from garyu and low n behold i got a player that was mighty ruler. i beat him 2-1 but it was so saddening cuz i was basically back to square one.
@@Thinker117-j2r would you say it applies to me? i'm stuck in raijin right now, it's rough, especially with all the tekken emperor and higher ranked people coming down to play new characters
@jordanwalker3617 yeah man, raijin is rough because you lose ALOT on a loss, and you're sort of dipping your toes vsing both actual tekken players and brainless(newbies and thats okay) mashers. It's not a good spread for you to learn the game. Because you'd be fluctuating between fujin and raijin. There's a HUGE gap between fujin and bushin. And you being in front of that particular doorstep makes it not as fun IMO. These new changes have a high possibility of fixing that.
@@Thinker117-j2r yeah, i do have a huge problem of struggling to remember frame data so i'm having to simplify punishes in my head down to"launch, heat or jab" and even then it's still difficult because as you said there's mashers and i'm still not too well versed in tekken (basically first tekken game i've played online) and then an actual good player comes in and the only reaction you can think is "they beat the hell out of me" but those games end up costing you 1000 points and you next win you only get 150 back
Hi Phi, just wanna point out and show appreciation to how much work you put into your videos. Getting all these timestamps and all the preparation you do before actually hitting record. Amazing work! Thank you❤
A lot of these are good. Correct me if I'm wrong but the practice mode options dont save when you close the game right? I hate having to set up drills over and over again they should set up an option to save drills like that would be huge.
And there's the reason why we haven't seen Tekken do this for a long time lol Move was OP af. Unblockable, mid, can't be interrupted, can't be sidestepped.
While i do agree that special style and modern are kinda nescessary to grow interest in the games and ultimately neither will save you when you encounter actually strong players. Its fine that they exist, but saying "just be better" is kinda bullshit. You have to be overwhelmingly better from low to mid level because them having a 0% chance of dropping their combo is a non negligable advantage they have over you that will matter if you're only marginally better. That said even though its bullshit.. its bullshit that you just need to deal with and tighten your game up just like any other of the 50 bullshit situations you'll encounter in fighting games. but lets not pretend that its not impacting the experience of lower level players who are actually trying to learn proper that are getting smoked by folk where the game is just handling the inputs for them.
Wanted to say the exact same thing, playing against special style as a beginner feels so awful. It just feels like you are playing against a cheater that is endorsed by the game. And even at intermediate it's just an awful experiance.
I'm in the top 0.25% , so I can't really relate. But arn't special style combos just a few hits and around 45 damage? So if you get a weekend you could learn whatever easy mode 60 to 70 damage combos your character has. Maybe the issue is you are new, find combos hard and are going for max damage stuff instead of an easier combo you'd be consistent with.
@@8bit_pineapple special style also makes you lose loads of your characters options which is a bigger deal in tekken due to the amount of moves Modern in SF6 feels way more unfair
@@8bit_pineapple your advice leans into the exact thing that im saying is cheap about it. 45 damage is still damage.. You even said yourself find an easier more consistent combo at expense of damage. But you can still drop an easy combo it happens all the time. The best players in the world drop and have input errors. Learning how to capitalize on interactions you win consistently is a big part of the game. So having it handled automatically naturally is a huge advantage when you're in the range of people who are figuring that stuff out. Thus all the other players at that level experience are adversely affected. Of course as you climb higher the issue begins to dissipate because everybody is capitalizing on their interactions more often so it becomes more of the same and it starts boiling down to gameplans. And im not really having this problem myself rn. Im more of a mid tier player now and im not really losing to ppl because of special style. More so match up knowledge. (And you can run special style and still be a good player making big brain moves) (The move loss is a more legit handicap in street fighter 6. Because tekken allows you to turn it on and off mid match..so did you actually lose any moves?)
Splitting Heihachi from the other changes is a good move IMO, because while I'm interested in the changes and your take on them, I don't need to ba super focused on the visual, so I can do something on the side, while a new character is something that requires more of my attention, especially as a Tekken newcomer
I know they want money and all, but i think if they set Tekken coins as Ranked prizes, i think a hella more ppl would play and get excited! Like get 1 characters to X rank would give 10 coins. And higher ranks could give a little more. Then ppl would also play more characters, maybe even buy dlc ones because that's a new character to rank up! As it stands, it is just not that interesting to grind ranks. Image you played very well with lots of characters and it got you a big discount on an outfit you were interested in. Especially if it was a character you normally didn't play, but were just grinding ranks for coins. But now you really like this other characters! Now you have MOREcharacterss you want to customize and the prices feel better because your skill is effectively lowering the price! Personally, i think this would gain Namco more money than they'd give out.
I am so happy they added the option to immediately go into the replay system after a match. I hope it also takes you back to the training area but we will see :P The replay system could also use some work as the controls are a bit wonky, a way to go back/forth in small increments or even a seekbar would be great. Nonetheless very happy with all the additions!!
This is one of the best updates ever, in all online games. I hope Tekken 8 continues in this path of not only adding but enhancing the small but significant problems of the Game!
Being able to go to replays right from the end of match screen is so huge. I don’t have to make a mental note to go back and watch a replay after a ranked sesh, I can just check it out right then and there.
It also can help to catch cheaters that use scripts to help their gameplay.

😂Yall still complaining about Dragunov.
T8 was the first FG that I not only got in on directly at launch but also followed the development of. It's been quite a ride so far and I'm actually excited to see where things go next.
No infinite rematch, but insta replay is a good step.

And they STILL haven't added penalties for rage quitters.
And cheaters situation is getting worse and worse while its been discovered a cheating device also for PS5.
Well that’s stupid but I can at least give them the benefit of the doubt cause that probably involves messing with the in game codes a lot.

Clickbait ass title. Fixing everything...lmao
one of Tekken 7's last quality updates were being able to chose Favourite fighter and skin with one button. I was suprised it wasn't implemented at the start of Tekken 8 since it was one of the last ones T7 did. ( if they could put it in t8, I'd appreciate it alot)
Fix everything? I doubt that
doing my part to see say video was awesome, well formulated, and super helpful for someone who only caught part of the TT. contextualized why each change was cool/a big deal. thank you mr streamer.
the fact that it took this long to change losing more points to someone HIGHER rank than you is absurd.
I'm not gonna give props for fixing something that should never have been an issue in the first place.
Exactly
I'm inclined to agree. I managed to get to Tekken King with Kazuya last july, and it was unbelievable. i was finally able to hang with (some) gold rank players. but then i just kept getting matched up with them even as i got demoted from there to bushin to kishin. i'm now at the border of raijin/fujin, and i haven't played the game online in like 2 months lol
and the game still has casino mechanic shit going on lol
Very nice presentation and cut down, great and very fluid pace. I watched the whole thing and appreciate the timestamps, even if I didn’t used them. Ty for this! ❤
Excited af for the character title screen
cant wait to put eddy back
Damn asked for the replay thing on reddit last month, glad they listened!
Stopped playing for like 4 months tried going back into it cannot beat anyone just due to the rank I last played on 😭
Just play a new character and rank them up until you get your fundamentals back
great video! perfect length and i appreciated getting to hear you get so excited about the changes, which made me even more excited about the changes :)
Are they fixing the horrible hitboxes that rob you out of combos and make non tracking moves clip sidesteps?
It's a feature, not a bug.
I'm glad to see improvement especially for ranked.
I have found it extremely discouraging to fight a player with the same rank but the prowess is way higher. Fujin with 175K prowess is definitely not the same as a Fujin with 350K prowess.
8 months in i'm still trying to work out what Heat is for :P
Same here.
Some advantages:
- New moves
- Heat attack (great damage)
- Heat also helps for combos
- Heat Dash (another way to deal extra damage
Etc.
You'll know when you'll get f**** up by it.
Just spam heat smash, it works like 65% of the time
Yes! It always bugged me that the cabinets facing each other werent actually linked to each other
Id be completely ok with ranked being ft2 and quick play is infinite
24:56 FINALLY, THEY ARE FIXING RANKED MATCHES!!! YES!!! THANK YOU!!!!
Only thing I want is unlimited rematch mode in quickmatch. Is it here yet or no?
Casino? How come when someone is better than you/me they will win at this "Casino"
@@Gastonlagaf944all fighting games have RPS mechanics!!!!! 🤦🏽♂️
Great content Phi! appreciate it
They just forgot to fix the gameplay and remove heat.

They did, in fact, not fix everything

No movement fixes, no heat nerfs. What have they fixed exactly?
what is it about movement or heat that you want fixed exactly, everyone moves the same (except Lili) and everyone's heat is just as strong as each other's
Yeah you might want to bring up specific moves or characters because now that we're months in its clear that HEAT isn't the problem. Things like Drag being able to get an unscaled unreactable rage art after landing a hard knock down is a problem. Characters being able to do more moves is not.
Nothing, PhiDX is just being a shill for a billion dollar company as usual.

They will have bad times losing to ppl who are on lower ranks but are good at the game.

begging for them to let us use practice mode with DLC characters we don't own
absolutely. each dlc character has an element of 'pay to play' because in higher level play, everyone labs their anticpated opponent. everyone will be playing heihachi, just like lidia release week. serious competitive play demands that everyonehas access to what they need to compete on a level playing field.

im so glad they made the rank system more better. i was about to demote from garyu and low n behold i got a player that was mighty ruler. i beat him 2-1 but it was so saddening cuz i was basically back to square one.
This is comming from love but the faults of the rank system does not apply to you. Trust me you'll figure it out once you're abit better.

Move was OP af. Unblockable, mid, can't be interrupted, can't be sidestepped.
Great to see that the devs are listening to the community and fixing/giving the player base what they want. Great vid @PhiDX
@@vanossblackheart6029 but with special style you can tell what your opponent is about to do. I think it's fair
@@8bit_pineapple special style also makes you lose loads of your characters options which is a bigger deal in tekken due to the amount of moves
Modern in SF6 feels way more unfair
(And you can run special style and still be a good player making big brain moves)
(The move loss is a more legit handicap in street fighter 6.
What did they fix exactly?
Move list filter's gonna be a game changer for me.
Great take! And maybe unlock exclusive items when you get to a new rank to your characters or avatar.
