    Someone on Reddit did an analysis of Tekken 8's stage randomness and found it to be perfectly random. It's a common psychological error we humans make: We notice when coincidental things happen (like the same stage randoming two or three times in a row) and remember them far more than we remember other occurrences, thus thinking they happen at a higher rate than they actually do.

    • @LucificNight
      @LucificNight 2 місяці тому +10

      Yeah, players use "Evenness" as a heuristic for "Randomness".
      it's the reason why a lot of games have hidden mechanisms to smooth things out, such as "no two of the same stage in a row" or "stages which haven't come up in a long time have higher priority".
      Devs usually start with actual random. They then realise that "feeling random" is usually better than "actually random".

      I'm sure some felt this way, but as a longtime player this feels like a completely different kind of game. And when you introduce a lot of the new mechanics, some characters are just going to benefit way more than others. I don't blame anyone for being frustrated with having to adapt to mechanics that the absence of made them like the series in the first place. That being said, I am happy to see players adapting and the community growing. That growth is undoubtedly due to the new mechanics. I'd rather deal with a lot of the new things then not have anyone to play with, because no new players will play the game.

    I feel like people don't talk about the effects of grey health enough. You only get it on block or on launch, not vs pokes. So it's like the game incentivizes you to take big risks because if you get launched, you can potentially get 30-60% of the hp back later. This also specifically buffs jumping moves because float combos are usually 100% recoverable damage.

    • @swolsauce9923

      I just now started realizing this and it changed my approach. I use orbital a lot more when im being pressured because I know if I get floated then in a way it’s like I get out of the pressure to get another chance since the damage scales and I can recover that health back, especially if I manage to hit them with a heat engager after

  • @sebbbi2
    @sebbbi2 2 місяці тому +23

    Lots of people complain that devs are not listening. They have done lots of defensive balance adjustments based on player feedback. Sidestepping alone got these buffs: command throws are linear, high power crush heat engagers are linear, heat burst is linear, all heat smashes are weak to sidestep to one direction. Also they removed pushback from demon paws and high power crushes (-9 next to opponent). CH throws are easier to break, launcher throws are i14. Blocked heat engager on wall is +5 (instead of wall crush).
    The roster is also more balanced than ever. Drag just got nerfs. More Drag nerfs coming in next patch. Nina and Yoshi also got nerfs. Alisa nefs also coming. They also nerfed too strong Lili and Ling 50/50s earlier. Top 8 results seems heathly. No single characters dominates (except Dragunov a bit, but even that’s debatable in latest tournaments and these two batches of latest nerfs will solve that for good).

    • @TKMotoRolA_RazR
      @TKMotoRolA_RazR 2 місяці тому +4

    I tried watching some other knee match analysis that really only involved putting down the opponents character, so explaining situations and how he's making sidestep reads based off assumptions the other player is going to try to be plus really helps explain the decision making choices I should be looking to imitate and exploit. Even with all the best intentions and knowlege, other people trying to describe eddy trying to be plus as a "stupid tekken 8 thing" makes me think at some point people shouldn't be trying to do that, and thus I shouldn't be looking out for the obvious strong options. Total mindset inversion.

      The situation where Bryan uses db3 to be -1 into the heatsmash to enforce his lows is very similar how Nightmare in soul calibur 6 had to enforce his low game at certain points by doing similar 2k into enhanced 6b that was easily sidestep punished. Even if your opponent waits and sidesteps, its valuable information that if you use more lows they will not be challenged and you can slow the pace of the match. Wheras if they try to take their turn they lose 30-40% of their health bar.

    Stepping Bryan is free damage. However watching how he plays with patience looking for and forcing his opponents to make a mistake before enforcing his offense changed my whole perspective. Perhaps it is how I should pilot my characters too as a defensive player.

    I don't know if there is a matchup specific reason for not launching eddy sweep with while rising 1, but in my experience opting for jet upper will get you much more wall travel. Could be talking out of my ass for this one but I believe you can on average squeeze out a bit more damage as well.

    I think people understand the philosophy of Tekken 8 at this point. It's more about whether it's more fun or not.

  • @Joshbehe

    All the discourse around the stage randomization being broken is silly. It would be the easiest thing to program a random selection. Random includes streaks and clumps, it's simply confirmation bias that we all notice when the same stage comes up twice. You see the same thing in every card game where gamers complain about the shuffler being broken constantly.

      I dont believe that the random is actually random, i think its cycling the stages and you can choose when it stops. Would love to see someone study this

    • @TheLibra97

      I think they should include an algorithm to give less weight to the previously played stage while going back at least till character selection, so the chances of the same stage showing up again is greatly reduced, but still possible. It won't really be random (what really is random in computers), but would be much better to play in my opinion

    Have been playing that matchup a lot lately but in t7; can confirm ws1 of Bryan whiffs on Eddy's slide low. It just doesn't reach far enough horisontally. Kinda insane that Jet Upper does reach lol, never tried that. Fisherman Slam works just fine in that situation.

    "Heat Smash for 50/50" isn't accurate in my opinion, it's more like a rock paper scissors for some characters because it's a 3 way. For example: Jin enters Breaking Step, but if he tries to apply a 50/50 of Mid/High - he can be denied by simply jabbing him, making the third option (EWHF) the correct choice in that case.

    For me, controlling the fifty-fifty with defensive movement and limiting your opponents options (at critical moments) is what makes Tekken great. But in this particular Tekken, (though it can be a fun game at times) is extraordinarily frustrating most of the time because it swings in a direction of "press a button" rather than "step a move" - you can see this clearly in the Knee vs. Shadow final round.
    For now, I think I'll just reserve myself to playing through everything except rank mode because its way too stressful in a bad way.

    i do wanna say while yes, people always say every tekken is easier than the last, and thats because its usually true, i do think tekken 8 is different. and for me personally, while i played tekken as a kid, i never took it very seriously until 8. i played very little tekken 7, but after i got about 400 hrs in tekken 8, i was getting burnt out and went back to tekken 6, 7, and tag 2 to round out my tekken knowledge. and honestly those games are just so much more fun than tekken 8. and this coming from someone who never played tag, and played tekken 7 like 3 or 4 times. i played 6 as a kid but obviously never really actually learned how to play it. so im not a tekken oldhead by any means but i still think 6 7 and tag 2 are all superior to 8. but maybe im just saying that because i never played those games competitively. but lets talk about tag 2, newer players being carried by "all that movement", giving players better movement is a good way to open things up for new players, making the game feel smoother. and really no tekken game feels as smooth as tag 2. whereas the thing that gives newer players an edge over older players in 8 is because 8 is honestly so much more different from 7 than 7 was from tag 2. and the newer mechanics are generally just frustrating and not thought out very well. the game feels stiff compared to 7, and mixups are way too strong. obviously, pros are pros, and they can adapt, but just cuz you can adapt to something doesnt mean its well made. humans adapted to the great depression but that doesnt mean we liked it.

    Hey Phi , I don't know if you gonna see my comment or not , but Bryan plays with 1+2 mentals frames , they don't finish the string , instead they use a new move like df1 , F3 , D2 . And because the opponents visually confirm that " oh Bryan didn't finish the string let me take my turn back " and he jabs , but Bryan's move connects first , so I think because of that johnding played the gamble to jab after 1+2 , so he can get +8F with jab hit , but knee only did 1+2 and no mental frame move , just my theory, i could be wrong also ... And yaaa BiG fan PHiii ❤
