    Hot tip: While you can sheath/unsheath your weapon by pressing the left stick, this is not ideal, as it doesn't work if you have something targeted (it'll activate lock-on targeting instead, as shown here in Part 3). You can however still sheath/unsheath your weapon while targeting (and when not ofc), by clicking LB+RB (in that order).

    I was m/kb only for a long time. Then my PC took a dump and I was tired of rebuilding it so I bought a PS4 Pro. I plugged my mouse and KB in only to find there was nasty input lag on both so I gave controller a shot.
    After a couple of days of playing/tweaking my controls i was shocked to find how amazing the controller implementation is for FF14. Fast forward 6 months Sony did a system update and now my mouse and kb have no issues.
    But i’m not going back. That’s how awesome the controller is for FF14.

    The hardest thing is exercising your muscle memory. This is so very true for me who has been playing mmorpg for more than 10 years on KBM. The day I bought and tried Controller, I feel like I was playing mmo for the first time back decades ago, like for real. The only thing I mastered was only movement and camera. Once I got into the fights, dungeons, raids, HOLYSHIT I felt like hell was about to break loose, keep forgetting the keybind / pressing the wrong buttons so many times, and I mained healer, so yeah. The most mistakes I’ve made was between Bumpers (left right) switched with face and direction buttons.
    I played solid 1 week (but only around 2-3 hours per day) for me to FINALLY get used to it.

    I've been playing FFXIV for 6 years on PS4. Recently, I was able to build my gaming PC and started playing final on PC as well. I have been STRUGGLING to play on KB/M. I have an mmo mouse and have put in hours of practice, but I just can not get comfortable with it. I'm a hotmess with KB/M. I've decided that I'll be moving back to my controller so that I'm actually useful to my party again. It's good to see that there are so many people that use controller on PC. I almost felt embarrassed and like I was "giving up" on playing the game properly on KB/M. Thanks for your video. It and reading the comments have definitely helped me feel better.

    I want to say thank you so much for these guides! You guys are awesome! I just started playing a little over a month ago and I was clueless on a lot of this stuff. Especially adding more hot bars. This guide really helped me and makes my dps job so much easier. The only thing that I don’t understand is macros and if they are something I should be using as a dps. But keep doing what you guys are doing!!

    • @katrinkpunkt
      @katrinkpunkt 5 років тому +1

      Not sure if still needed, but you should never use macros to string for example combos, since macros use a fixed time to execute, while when pressing you can "queue" skills, allowing you to execute them directly after each other. So when you're repeatedly pressing a button while the global cooldown is still running, your game will recognize what you wanna do next and execute it instantly. A macro will delay your global cooldown and significantly lower your dps. However, there are macros that are helpful with targeting. For example I have macros for my Aetherial Manipulation to certain party members, so I don't have to go through the party list to target them. I know a lot of dragoons do the same for their second eye. Also it can be helpful to target ground aoes (not sure if any dps has any left though :') )

    Hey, ur tutorials for hud locations and character configuration really helped me. The only thing which bothers me, is that since I am playing on ps4 I might have a wider screen. The thing is I can’t move the chatlog to left corner but all the other elements are movable. :/

    • @Work2Game
      @Work2Game  4 роки тому +5

      The chatlog is movable but it's not very easy to do, so I hear you there. You'll need to go into virtual mouse mode, and then carefully you'll be able to drag the chat box anywhere you need. But it can be frustrating because it's finnicky.

    • @jsantosv1979
      @jsantosv1979 4 роки тому +3

      The chat log has a limit to where it can be placed. It doesn't go to the very edge, unless you zoom the display area in the screen and sound settings of the PS4. However, when you do this, you lose about 5% of the screen. I tried it but preferred to leave it on default.

      @@Work2Game Thank you! Ye it's manageable but I would rather not make the pain worse. Tbh I am a bit terrified to make the switch as I have played mmo's over 15 years with kb+m. Been thinking about making an alt character so I won't have skill bloat before I learn to use controller and can replay the story at the same time.

    I've always used R3 for sprint. I also prefer for the expanded controls to go to the same Cross Hotbar so it doesnt matter which order I press in. I know this reduces the number of options but just like it that way. I used to hate as blm accidently locking on to a boss by mistake whist in legacy controls.

    another tip i'd like to share is swapping the triggers with the bumpers (L2/R2 --> R1/L1) its much smoother and faster specially with the double tap for the WXHB and also much less resistance than from the springs on the triggers...

      a generally good idea is to keep action skills off the dpad because using them requires your left thumb which takes it off the stick used for movement.
      Example: my 1-2-3 tank combo/attack skills are on the X O Square and triangle buttons so i don’t sacrifice movement to use skills.

So controller it is for me. Might bring in a keyboard later on for chat but couch on controller might be worth pursuing if I can get used to it.

    Thank you so much for this guide. I work on a computer all day, so when I come home and game for hours on end, it totally messes my back up. It's apparently called "mouse shoulder" and is a known thing these days. I've tried so many things to make it go away, but they haven't helped. I was afraid I'd have to quit playing MMOs, and was really bummed out. The I realized this game can be played on a PS4 controller. Now, I don't own any consoles, and the thought of playing an MMO on my PC with a controller breaks my heart. However, I would rather commit that heresy rather than not play at all. Thanks again!

    LOL, well, Brian, here I am (a bit late to the party I guess) . . . after your last video in Ginger Prime with its discussion on FFXIV and the earlier FF wishlist and your hopes for the future I got thinking that I sort of missed playing . . . and now that I am older and my fingers just aren't up to extremely long play sessions on my nostromo gamepad and razor mouse, I thought, hey why not my controller so I decided I had to research FFXIV controller useage and who else popped up but the controller guru Brian in a video featured for FFXIV . . . you are a god send for these tired old finger sir and the immense amount of information in your video and how and what to do really makes my transition to controller in FFXIV so much easier, its going to actually be doable, what better praise can I give than that . . . especially since NW is a moot point for me now . . .
