One more tip I often dont see people mention: You can actually assign macros to your l3 and r3 buttons in the settings! I have my l3 set to focus target and r3 as target of my target which are handy to cycle between mts and bosses.
The most important thing. Don't expect to learn all those in a hour. Need patience and time. Then you see how expert tou become. I play with controller almost 18k hours and i can play any content in the game. From easiest to Harden. So if someone tell tou can't play hard content with controller, is a lie.

If you get good at ground targeting and are used to prepositioning your camera, it's a great tool to get your ground target out quickly, especially for ground target abilities where time is of the essence like Shukuchi.

I will say that as a Ps5 player, controllers can be a lot to wrap your head around in an MMORPG. Hang in there Xbox warriors and stick with it. Yoshi P and his team have made this exceedingly accessible to console players. It takes a bit to learn and get down, but it will be instinct before long.
I like to set the d-pad left/right target filter to enemies only, I find it feels more natural to me than rb/lb targeting. You can make it a hard target by pressing confirm or just soft target to apply a dot or whatever.

Couple of things. For ground targeting, the thing I would suggest you never do on a controller, just use this simple macro in place of any ground target skill. /micon Asylum /merror off /ac Asylum /ac Asylum /merror on This will use your current target as the center point of your skill, and fire the skill off instantly. If you don't have a target, it will bring up the ground targeting circle as normal. Replace asylum with whatever skill you are using obviously, and put this on your bar. Even Casters LB works. As well as Ninja teleports. Instead of I use on a second teleport macro, which will teleport me to the healer (usually out of the way of point blank attacks). As for people saying just use m&KB... You do know that the effectiveness of a m&KB comes with your familiarity with the device right? People that have spent years using a controller, and none really playing with a m&KB are not going to be able to use it. I played SWTOR with a m&KB for almost a year and never got used to it. I made a control scheme similar to this using xpadder, and was INSTANTLY way better at the game. There is no content you can't do using a controller just as well as people on m&KB. If anyone tells you that, you can freely ignore them. It comes down to 100% preference, a bit of practice, and knowledge of options to get the right setup that works for you.
From a PlayStation player to Xbox players, the Double Cross Bar setup is going to be your saving grace. Really helps keep your rotations smooth and fluid with a little wiggle room for OS moments.
I've tried various mmo mice with a keyboard, and also a controller and I mess up inputs less with controllers than mmo mice. I get less hand cramps/ pain with controllers also. Ground targeting is easier with a mouse though. I like ignore depth targeting, it helps when targeting an enemy slightly behind my character. If you want, you can use macros on abilities that have ground targeting. I usually have something like: /macroerror off /ac "Asylum" /ac "Asylum" /micon "Asylum" this will try to cast asylum on my target (tank) , and if I do not have a target it casts at my position instead.
Only annoying thing about full auto target is when pulling as a tank, makes it kinda annoying to target unaggroed mobs, thankfully aoe skills dont need a target. However the scrolling the enemy list is huge knowledge finding them stragglers, Nice vid mate

Very helpful! I only figured half of the mechanics on my own, and the configuration recommendations are eye-opening, especially as a healer in training. I’ve not done a dungeon with live players out of fear I’ll mess up with the whole focus mess.
1-One of my friends just got into the game thanks to the xbox beta! Thanks alot for this :D 2-the bumper+dpad is also incredibly good for crystalline conflict targeting as it cycles the enemy party list depending on range, if theyre too far away or out of line of sight then it wont target them but this is great for more accurate targeting, especially for ninja whos whole limit break gimmick relies heavily on 50% ajd lower hp targets to chain insta-kills(I'm super into this games pvp :D)

First important note:I just bought my controller so I dont claim I know or understand how controller works. But my question is how exactly do you move AND use the d-pad (xbox controller here)? I just cant do it!
Your guide was very helpful, however, question with ground targetting. It seems to always follow my mouse cursor, which I try and keep off my screen when using controller. Thus gives me issue. Anything to do about this? I end up just using my mouse to do ground targets now

How do I reset filter targeting back to default (i.e. I've activated a custom target filter with LB + Face button, how do I go back to unsheathed weapon filter targeting)? The only way I can see is to sheathe/unsheathe my weapon and that makes it a non-starter for now as a result.
Yes, unfortunately the only way to revert back to a sheathed/drawn filter is to sheathe or draw your weapon again. This is why I mostly rely on my face button filters.
You'll always be first on the party list, so down on the directional pad will always target you first. I think it's to keep the controls consistent between solo and party gameplay.
Yeah no way around this. You can order your party members but you will always be first. Meaning that you have to press down twice to get to your tank. It is abit annoying since if you have no target you will auto target yourself, making you being on the list kind of worthless.

I do use the mouse and Keyboard aswell usually when i play with a controller. Usally to select diffrent things in menus and to type with people. And in a pinch in an allience raid i can use the mouse to target another member for heals or revives.

I use left X/Square menu to focus target and L3 as target focus target , I use R3 as assist target too though (target of my target)

Couple of things.

Healer is really rewarding, IMO! It keeps you engaged by requiring you to focus on both your party and enemies. I'm sure you'll have fun with it!

Yep, on Xbox L1/R1 = LB/RB and L2/R2 = LT/RT.
