Was sold on a GT4 until I went to the AMG Experience this weekend and autocrossed the CLA45s. Wow, what a car and what a transmission. I thought I needed a stick to have fun but I'm converted. Plan on ordering and AMG for Xmas...and another one for my Grandson at just a few dollars more than the GT4 was going to cost me..:) Back to Sonoma next year for more AMG fun~

Growing up, I was ALWAYS a Porsche > Mercedes-Benz > BMW fan. I full out assumed the Porsche was going to out perform the other 2, as LEAST in the drag. But... NEVER underestimate a Mercedes-Benz, especially an AMG and that 4MATIC system. If people think all AWD systems / drive trains are the same... They are WRONG. The CLA is a blast to drive and so impressed on how it performed so well in all these tests. Half the price? Really? Dang Skippy!
It’s not that one manufacturer is simple better than another and that’s the end of it. It will depend on the wants and needs of the consumer. If you compare a W205 C43 (facelift) to an M340i, one could think that the Bmw is better just because of the engine and how it’s portrayed in social media as the best 6 cylinder in this class. I would prefer the B58O1 all around over the M276, but there are other factors in play. The C43 is more raw and visceral behind the wheel, the transmission tuning feels sharper and more aggressive, the exhaust sounds more exciting imo (not necessarily better, but more exciting), and so on. The M340i can be had in rwd and the awd system can send all of its power to the rear so it’s much easier to rotate, i prefer the iDrive system and so forth. They have their pros and cons, one car may be better suited to one than another.
@@PapiAndrey Not a bad argument, but I will say the ZF outclasses mercedes transmission in every way, I can tell you right now if you experienced a ZF8 in a bmw, a tuned one especially, theres no match at all, power wise zf8 is at the top, why do you think hellcats rs6,rs7,m5s all use it? Because its the best torque converter transmission on the market
@@evojug6973 I drive one with a custom tune, i’m aware. That isn’t the reason that the Hellcat, RS7, etc. use it. It is technically among the best torque converter autos out there, no question, but it’s no dual clutch. That’s why the 8DT exists alongside the 8HP. “ZF8” doesn’t refer to a single transmission. Anyway, comparing a transmission with aftermarket software to one with factory software isn’t fair. Comparing stock for stock, the C43 does have sharper and quicker shifts. Amg tuned the gearbox the same way they did in a full-fat Amg with a torque converter like the GLE63. The M340i’s trans tune is no different than a 330i’s. Which has great software and you really don’t need any more than that to be fair, but you can clearly tell the difference between the two. Of course once tuned, it’s another story and you can make each trans shift how you like
@@PapiAndrey hellcat rs7, etc use it because of how much torque they can handle, I know theres different zf8s, a bmw 340i has a weaker 8hp45 while the new g80s come with a 8hp90, my point is just that the zf is a better all around transmission, gear ratios, the torque converter launch, and the amount of tq they can handle, I personally would never put a mercedes transmission over a bmw transmission, especially if comparing to the zf8 speed
Great video guys! I did notice that the handsome fellow in the GT4 was off the gas at the end of the slalom. Perhaps the finish line wasn’t well defined. He is my favourite host and the fastest for sure

Thanks for watching! We are 3400ft above sea level. The naturally aspirated Porsche loses 10%+ of its output at our altitude. Although the M2 is turbocharged like the CLA45, it consistently struggled for traction. Stay tuned, the M2 is coming back, and the CLA45 is coming back as an S! As for Jay? Loved the video, a small critisim if i may, the road surfaces will have disadvantage for the sticker tyre (which the GT4 wears as oem) this will cause traction control to safe behave and limit its full potentials (brake, turn-in, and acceleration) hense you’re aware 0-60 in the GT4 should’ve been in front, correct me plz😊
Thank you for the praise and feedback! The GT4 and M2 were equipped with the exact same tires. Stability control on all 3 vehicles was defeated in the drag races. We feel that the GT4's greatest challenge was the altitude our runway is situated at. Being a naturally aspirated vehicle, the GT4 makes less power at 3400 feet above sea level.
All 3 vehicles have very similar drag time records listed by several publications with the CLA45 posting the lowest times more frequently. The GT4 was the only naturally aspirated car. At our 3400ft above sea level altitude, naturally aspirated vehicles lose the most power. The M2 was the most challenged with traction as a RWD car without the weight of the engine over the wheels like the GT4.
It didn’t do bad at all and it certainly wasn’t unfair. It’s a rwd car making 450whp with tons of torque at low rpm, it wasn’t going to put down all of its power anyway
Had they used timing equipment, the M2 likely ran the fastest time in the drag race on run 2. Even with the subpar driver. Everyone knows the M2 is capable of running a faster qtr mile than the merc or porsche.

The CLA45 is a 2023. It is not a hybrid. The 2024 CLA45 S replaced the 2023 CLA45 and does have hybrid. We will compare the CLA45 to the CLA45 S in the future to see how much of a difference the hybrid technology makes.
You are correct, it is not a Hybrid. The S model uses a more advanced turbocharger technology. We will compare them in the future to see how much of a difference it makes. How do you like your S? Have you compared it to a non S?

@bajanboss We agree, that is why we had the exhaust flaps open. Unfortunately, we could not bypass the soft limiters on any of the 3 vehicles. The sounds were captured well during the race and slalom tests though!
We agree, when it came to the slalom. However, the CLA45 is a cannonball in a drag race! Our runway is 3400ft above sea level. The naturally aspirated motor in the GT4 makes less power at high altitude than it would at sea level. As for the M2, traction was a challenge for that car compared to the CLA45s tenacious AWD.
Makes you wonder if car wow hates Mercedes or they are just using cars tuned against merc for once Mercedes thriving on here if this was in car wow the Mercedes stand no chance of wining anything…
Watch the rear tires of the M2 in the video whenever they launch it. They're spinning TF out of them on launch. They intentionally sandbagged their competitor's car. Pretty shady, but they are a dealership.

What you're hearing is the M139 engine under heavy load as it spun all 4 wheels! Pretty amazing that it can do an all wheel drive donut with a 2.0L I-4 Turbo 😍
We felt that the non-S was closer matched to the other two as the lower output would be offset by the benefits of AWD. We are working on putting the S model against an Audi RS3... know anyone that has one? They are no longer available new 🙃. It would be interesting to see if the S model improves the slalom times as well as the drags.

These bmw fanboys are just sad at this point. Saying the bmw is the best 😂😂😂. Bmw is bad not only track byt drag races. It having so little grip makes it oversteer very easily. I tried porsche and mercedes all rwd they felt good and drove like it should. Also tried bmw xdrive m3 and in a straight line it helped but corners it still loved to oversteer. Would be cool to see a rs3 in here im sure it would beat all these cars because its lighter and has 400 hp and of course quattro the best awd system also got to remember that bmw has to lie about power to be able to rival with others 😂😂

2025 M2 will blow away that 4 banger....the S58 is making well over 600 on pump gas tuned as well

We agree, when it came to the slalom. However, the CLA45 is a cannonball in a drag race! Our runway is 3400ft above sea level. The naturally aspirated motor in the GT4 makes less power at high altitude than it would at sea level. As for the M2, traction was a challenge for that car compared to the CLA45s tenacious AWD.
Makes you wonder if car wow hates Mercedes or they are just using cars tuned against merc for once Mercedes thriving on here if this was in car wow the Mercedes stand no chance of wining anything…
Watch the rear tires of the M2 in the video whenever they launch it. They're spinning TF out of them on launch. They intentionally sandbagged their competitor's car. Pretty shady, but they are a dealership.
why not 45s?
At the time of filming, we did not have a CLA45S yet. 2024 was the first model year for the S in Canada. We have several productions coming out and many more to be filmed with the CLA45S. Stay tuned and turn on notifications, coming soon!
This is not a valid drag racing test.. You keep spinning the wheels on the BMW to lose traction intentionally. Who launches a car like that? lol. I am a Benz guy, but they have done this test, and the BMW is faster. Sorry, but if your this disingenuous, I would NEVER buy a car from you guys.

What you're hearing is the M139 engine under heavy load as it spun all 4 wheels! Pretty amazing that it can do an all wheel drive donut with a 2.0L I-4 Turbo 😍

Why not CLA45 S ?
We felt that the non-S was closer matched to the other two as the lower output would be offset by the benefits of AWD. We are working on putting the S model against an Audi RS3... know anyone that has one? They are no longer available new 🙃. It would be interesting to see if the S model improves the slalom times as well as the drags.
@@MercedesBenzDowntownCalgary in some races I've seen Rs3 vs Cla 45s, the Audi is faster, I don't know why, because they are also very similar in power and weight!!
Never seen such a bad drag racer in the M2. Who wheel spins off the line in a drag race? Not sure if your trying to make a cinematic or trying to race. 🤦♂
It helped the Chinook warm the tires up enough to take it in round 2!
These bmw fanboys are just sad at this point. Saying the bmw is the best 😂😂😂. Bmw is bad not only track byt drag races. It having so little grip makes it oversteer very easily. I tried porsche and mercedes all rwd they felt good and drove like it should. Also tried bmw xdrive m3 and in a straight line it helped but corners it still loved to oversteer. Would be cool to see a rs3 in here im sure it would beat all these cars because its lighter and has 400 hp and of course quattro the best awd system also got to remember that bmw has to lie about power to be able to rival with others 😂😂

We can confirm that the AMG CLA45 has no parts from IKEA 😎. You are very fortunate to have owned and experienced it and the Cayman GT4. We really liked the GT4, and it sounds so good!

U know mercedes is desperate now. Yall lose every single drag race on carwow and throttle house to bmw and porsche. The m2 is way faster then both these cars. I just came from another vid on this channel where a mercedes SUV beat a x5m competition and a porsche cayenne turbo gt. These races are fake.
The video you are referring to includes a Cayenne Turbo GT that was not broken in. You will be happy to know that we not only have a rematch for that video, but another one where the M2 comes back with someone from BMW behind the wheel. Our guests bring their best and only do their best. The results are sometimes different from other channels because we are situated 3400 feet above sea level.
