Yet another example of how a little or a lot of love can bring these bikes back to life. In this case - probably better than when it was new. Sounds amazing!!
I kept a lot of original parts on this bike because I really love the vintage style the GS850 already has but I have to say that delkevic exhaust was well worth the money. It made this bike sound 1000 times better!
The GS850 has got to be one of the best utilitarian bikes ever made. It's soooo simple in virtually every respect and it'll run forever. My motto is always "the greenest tech is refurb tech". Well done, sir!
I have a 1981 Suzuki as my first bike and man. the old school bikes are difficult to find people who can work to bring it back to it’s former glory, i Wish i can just give you my bike and work you’re magic on it, bike always gives me a new difficulty but i still have love and want to turn it to a cafe racer
Seeing this was awesome. I was the original owner of a 1979 GS1000E and this is a lot like that bike other than the shaft drive vs. 630 O-ring chain. The sound of that engine with the new 4 into 1 exhaust brings back memories. My 79 is long gone but I have a 1984 Honda VT500FT that's been in storage for some years, and I'd love to get her back on the road. Looks like your buddy @ditstang can work miracles with carbs, and I'm sure mine need that kind of TLC.
Just finished watching the build. Super nice job and gave me a lot of insight as to what lies ahead of me this winter as I rebuild mine. I hope mine comes out half as well as yours did.
I must say, this GS looks excellent. Beautiful green with matching front fender. A lot of cafe style bikes look kind of hokey, but this is definitely tasteful. The 850 is happy again.
That dime city website is a fuggin goldmine!!! I have an 85 vt1100, and an 81 xs1100, I'm rebuilding...so hard to find parts, until now. Thanks so much, excellent work
I had a ‘79 GS850G just like that but without the hideous little seat, the dumb frame cuts and silly looking fender treatment. It was a fantastic bike and the stock seat was the best ever put on a bike IMO.
After watching your rebuild, I had to subscribe. Got me wishing I had kept my 1983 Suzuki GS 1000. Beautiful work brother man. I watch your other videos for sure. 💯
@@BayCityRestorations Goes well mate didn't think it would, like how you pay attention to detail buddy. Keep um coming buddy, very educational 👍🇺🇸🏴
These bikes become almost impossible to tune with the pod filters and in florida it rains a lot so I decided stick with the stock airbox for that reason! Appreciate you watching and leaving a comment! 🙌🏻
Thank you! I think I have around 140 hours into this build. Not including all the extra time to film it all. The Delkevic exhaust really woke this beast up! It sounds amazing ripping down the street.
@@BayCityRestorations knowing you’re at 140 hours really makes the Timelapse under play what goes into recreating something like this. I think the delkevic was a great choice. Certainly makes it sound more aggressive and sporty especially when compared to that lethargic factory exhaust. Thanks for the reply!
Taking the bike from what it was to what it became was a terrific journey. Unfortunately, we missed most of it 😖. As someone who rides motorbikes, you'll know that the destination is most certainly the goal. But the journey is the fun bit. Your skill and imagination for creating some great machines is obvious. But us motorcycle nutters love to see how it goes from being one thing to another. I watched a guy pull apart a very dead Honda CB 125 and saw him bring it back to life. This vid was about 45 minutes long, and it was great. Can you make longer vids? Or perhaps drop two vids at half an hour each? Trust me, if we know what the bike was and what it became, you'd have a guaranteed audience of thousands of bike fans.
lol, I had to pause and back up... Yep, a Redstone Arsenal pass. On the south end of the base there is a road that went from the south end over to memorial parkway. I had an old GS 1000S in the mid/late 80s that I could hit the top end on on my way down that road. Exhilarating and horrifying at the same time.
Appreciate you watching! I know I’ve been MIA for awhile. Buying a new house and getting settled in took way longer than I thought! Happy to be back to working on motorcycles now. Got new and exciting projects already lined up.
Im amazed how you literally took it apart and put it back together. I own a Triumph Bonneville t100 cafe . And recently bought a susuki gs 1100 , you think I can convert it into a nice cafe racer ?
Definitely! The GS1100 is a great platform to make into a nice cafe racer. Just take a lot of pictures and videos as you take it apart and take the time to label all your wiring and you will have no issue putting it back together.
Thank you for watching!

@@BayCityRestorations Hells yeah!
I love that you kept the factory airbox on there. It will run so much better that way.
I’m so done with pod filters haha. I like how the factory airbox fills up the entire space under the tank and makes the bike look solid! 💪🏻

Appreciate you checking out the build! The GS850 platform is bulletproof. The bike is an absolute blast to ride 🚀
Mannnn this was the best P4P restoration I’ve ever seen on UA-cam! Hands Down!
Really appreciate that! 🙏🏻
This is definitely the best restoration I've ever seen too!

In 1979 I bought a GS1000, loved that bike. In 1987 I bought a GS850 in need of love. Restored it and drove it for two years. Loved that bike too.
Great bikes!
This channel is so underrated. Most of my favorite cafe racer builds are from here. Love those BMW builds especially 😊
Thanks man!!! More BMW builds are on the way! 🤙🏻
75,742 views and only 1.7k likes, that is ridiculous. You turned this bike into art.
I appreciate! Hopefully the UA-cam algorithm works its magic soon so more people can enjoy the video!

eBay and dime city are definitely your best friends for rebuilding these old bikes.
Really makes me miss my old Gs850 I had way back in the late 80's. Such a great update for a great bike.
I appreciate it! This bike has been a blast to ride. Very strong and great power.
Ah, finally I discovered the end of the restoration! It was worth the wait! Bravo to you, and a small mention for the noise of the 4 in 1! Nice job!👌
The 1979 suzuki gs850G is the holy grail of the G line since it was the only year it had a kick starter.
thank you so much for not having some obnoxious music ruining this video

Well done, great job. Those Suzukis will last forever, great motors. Love the 4 into 1 exhaust.
Thank you! I have really enjoyed riding this bike.
You've done a great job on this bike, if my rebuild looks half as good as this I will be pleased. Well done.

That's the best bike restoration i ever saw, cool and simple ...❤❤
Thank you!
Such a simple yet beautiful build. The new paintjob on the tank with the blacked out engine was just a perfect pair. Much love from Indonesia!
Thank you! I loved the original style of the bike so my goal with this one was to keep the originality with a bit of my own personal touches😎
Nice bike. Looks like a bike that will actually get out of the garage, unlike a lot of the builds you see. And it sounds really awesome!
Appreciate it! This bike is a blast
Simply amazing job, I had a 1980 450 gsl and it brought back memories ty.
They are great bikes!
Love it! Got CB900 that I should work on and this gives me inspiration. Thanks!
Nice! I have yet to own a CB but I’m sure one will be in my future 😎
Wow this motorbike is so great can I drive it 😅😅

Plan on doing this with my gs850, this was a good prep course. Thanks bud.
Nice! Gs850 is a great platform
so sick, that green paint job made it sooooo sick

Absolutely fabulous work...much more patience than myself. But some good ideas for my 81 xs1100

A gem in the rough.
Nice job! I would lose the rear fender and put cones on the carbs but that’s just what I like.

Amazing. Paint is fantastic. Great build

Really nicely done and love the colour. For me maybe a couple of plain side panels but that exhaust note is sublime! Cheers
Thanks I appreciate it!
I hope you adjusted the valves before you installed the cover/gasket. Glad you kept the stock airbox.
Yes, did all that off camera. I learned my lesson trying to put pod filters on a 79 GS425. These bikes are happiest with the stock airbox.
Love it, especially the exhaust sound.
Thank you! This bike has one of my favorite sounds!
Awesome work Mike, she's a stunner 😍

what a great job man .. be proud

This bike is very responsive and a blast to ride!
That Delkevic made the bike sound sooooooo much better. How many hours did you put into that restoration? Which is a very nice build btw!
