Thanks for checking out the video and I hope you enjoy! I love how this bike turned out with the challenges of the given budget, limitations of the stock bike, and the amount of fabrication I felt was necessary to make it functional. I know the bike may look subtle at first glance but you definitely get to see how much work went into it with this video. Again for those who want commentary or more info on the bike, I show that it the full videos as I build it. Simply hit the playlist to find all you are looking for. Keeping the craftsman alive and well. Type a guy the neighborhood kids come ask "hey sir can you fix this for us?" And he walks into the shop staring at the part in his hands the whole time. ❤ "I think we can figure this out. Come have a seat." And the happy kid left having learned something about life and mechanics possibly even starting them on their passion for doing the same one day. Our neighborhood machinist and engineers name was Mr. Keith. He kept a beautiful sailboat at our dock.. thanks for this video...really, thank you.

I’m transforming my ‘99 Honda shadow 600 deluxe into a cross-country scrambler, but gradual steps. I started riding motorbikes as a six year old on stadium motor cross dirt trails, before all the X-Games stuff. Can’t get dirt biking out of my blood, hence the 600 transformation. I’ve even got a name for the transformation. I’ll have to take her on the journey to Missouri. Great work, brother.

I built a CB 550 into a scrambler 40 years ago. Of all the machines I've owned and ridden, none are as versatile or all around useful. Street capable, basic off road capable, it was unequaled.
Not for motocross, lol. But just ridiculously practical, I still think of that in comparison to more modern units.
Your build is a lot more careful than mine was. It's a beauty.

Looks so familiar. I used CX500 Custom rear wheel, and a generic aftermarket electric fan. I am going to fabricate a sidecar because I have muscle disease and have a bit unsure feeling keeping the bike up when stopping on uneven surface. When I modified and went through mine, I still was able to lift the engine easily, it weights 75 kg, about 150 lbs. Not any more... But I had a great life. No complaining about that.

What an amazing piece of workmanship. When I was young the CX500 was just the co to couriers machine, it's only saving grace was that it just kept on going. I think your re-imagining of the CX has everything a motorcycle needs, obviously not if you want a 200 MPH machine, but for those of us who've got "trying to kill themselves speeds" out of their system it's perfect.
It shows that with some creativity and vision you can create an amazing machine without all the electrickery of the GS.
I can do many things with regard to maintenance, my biggest regrets were never learning to weld, and never learning how to craft bodywork, my hat is off to you for your knowledge and attention to detail.

It's a bullet proof engine but it has one major issue if you're actually going to thrash it off road; the heavy drive shaft has enough torque to makes the bike want to roll when you catch a lot of air. I jumped my dad's CX500 quite a bit, one time at more than 100 mph and the bike felt like it wanted to roll onto its side mid air.

@@BrickHouseBuilds too bad there is no oil supply to the camshaft lobes ! i watch you grind down the cam lobes to hide the damage ..i am a certified Honda CX500 factory trained service tech and found the problem all cx500s have of no oil supply directly to the cam lobes and so every one of them will fail ..in 1982 i was to rebuild a CX500 per work order . it was the first one to rebuild in our shop since 1975 when they came out ..and everyone of them had rattling valve train after the first 1000 mile check up that could not be adjusted out of it ..the valve clearance was 0.003" exhaust and 0.002 intake and still with this hammering sound inside ..and when i opened one up for the first time it was obvious what the problem was as this had about 37,000 miles on it and the cam lobes were almost gone with gray metal dust all around the inside of the cases cooked on hard and dry of any oil ...Harold Brown was our mid west american honda service rep who just so happened to be in the shop that day when i opened the CX500 cases ..so i said , hey brownie we called him , come take a look as this .. brownie had never said a negative word to me in the 8 years working with him ..and that he came unglued on me telling me to shut up about it that why we dont make them anymore i said what about all the people buying them and putting major bucks building cafe racers out of them ..and harld brown said that is their tough luck

I can feel a definite sway towards this type of machine. Anyone who's been on a dirt road on a touring bike can understand why. I would love to be able to hit the trail. Without having to trailer a vehicle to and from the trail head. You are an incredible mechanic. I hope things are working out for you, you certainly deserve it. I'm always impressed with the quality of work coming out of a small shop. It proves , it ain't the shop it's who's in it . I never realized how much stamped metal Honda uses in their production of their motorcycles. I've been hopelessly addicted to two wheels since I was a little boy. Everything about them brings me joy and keeps me young. Stick with it kid! There are great things in your future. I've watched a ton of resto rebuild videos and you are the best by far. Camera clarity and focus and position . Music choice narration it's all broadcast quality. I think the adventure bike is about to explode like Harleys did back in the early 2000s. I hope you can benefit from it. So quit reading comments and get to work on that next project,I'll be watching! Thanks.

I click onto this because a ‘79 Honda CX 500 custom was my first very first mode of transportation when I turned 16 in 1986. For four years it was my ride until I totaled it in an accident. I loved that bike, and I’ve always wanted to get another and restore it.
It would basically be an every now and then ride, bit i I want one just the same. It was, and they are fantastic bikes, being shaft driven for that year of bike was a bit ahead of it’s time. It was also liquid cooled, which was basically unheard of then, and made it essential for those hot California summers splitting lanes on the freeways. 😏 ahh the good ol days. 😎

Turned my GL500 into an adventure bike, man with that uni link it's amazing, helped me figure out how to get an auxiliary fuel tank on it thanks man, I don't have any vision hahaha there's much life left in these old bikes and people will basically give the rust buckets away a lot!!

From the time I was born till I was eight, my family rode late 60s to early 70s Yamaha enduros. This affected me in a couple of ways. What is a motorcycle supposed to look like? What’s a motorcycle supposed to be able to do? I haven’t ridden since then, and I’m fifty now, but I watched this whole video because this build answered both of those questions so thoroughly. I was consistently amazed by the number of disciplines you drew from to do the build. Welding different kinds of metal? Check. Mechanics? Check. Machining? Check. I chuckled when, as precise as you are, your tubing bending activity started sweeping all the crap off your bench. Holy, crap, you just broke out a metal lathe. Wiring? Yeah, does that too. The only time it appears you phoned a friend was for powder coat /plating and seat upholstery. Amazing job!!
